JOHNSON MARSHALL COVEY, son of Enoch Moore Covey and Maranda O. Hunt, was born June 11, 1861 in Millwood, Collin County, Texas. He died in Sherman on January 18, 1941. Johnson married Lydia Elizabeth Covey, daughter of Jacob C. Covey and Sarah Middleton Melton. My great-grandmother and great-grandfather were married on a ferry in the middle of the Red River (probably on the old historic Colbert's ferry) where, I read that so many marriages were performed that the folks in Denison called the river the "Sea of Matrimony!" During World War I, he owned and operated the Collinsville Hotel in Collinsville, Texas. Sherman Democrat January 20, 1941 Sherman, Texas,

him. He came to Sherman from Collin County 58 years

and was a stock dealer and farmer for 50 years, retiring in

ENOCH JACOB COVEY, son of Johnson Marshall Covey and grandson of Enoch Moore Covey and Maranda O. Hunt, and Jacob C. Covey and Sarah Middleton Melton. Both of his grandfathers were Texas Confederate soldiers, serving with the Partisan Rangers and both have pension records on file in the Texas State Archives. His death certificate lists his occupation as a stock dealer (livestock). Enoch married Carrie Belle O'Mary in early 1909 in Sherman, Texas. Carrie Belle O'Mary, daughter of Owen O. O'Mary and Nancy Adeline Reynolds, was born January 27, 1889 in Rogers, Tennessee. Her family moved by train from Rogers, Tennessee to Whitesboro, Texas in mid-March 1889. Her siblings were Luther, Arthur, Ethel, Tessie, Charlie, Earl and Edgar. Belle moved to El Paso, Texas in approximately 1930. She died June 5, 1981 and is buried next to a son in Restland Memorial Cemetery. Her marker shows the birth date as 1899 which is inaccurate. She never remarried after her husband's death. Roy Covey, son of Enoch Jacob Covey and Carrie Belle O'Mary, died October 16, 1916 shortly after his first birthday. He is buried beside his father in West Hill Cemetery, Sherman, Texas. Neither Enoch or Roy have a headstone. They are buried in a plot bound by concrete that has the name 'Covey' on a step up to the grave sites. COY N.
