SHERMAN - Funeral services for Karl Paxton Sanders were held Tuesday morning, August 24, 2010 in the First United Methodist Church in Sherman. Dr. Jim Pledger and Dr. Thomas Peel officiated with services under the direction of Waldo Funeral Home. Burial was at West Hill Cemetery with Michael Deck, Matt Chapuis, John Flood, Gary Lunsford, Steve Campbell, and Jeff White serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Dick Travis, John Fair, Ben Harmon, Britt Swain, Joe Howington, and Roy Jackson. Mr. Sanders passed away Saturday, August 21 at the Texas Healthcare Presbyterian Hospital in Plano. He was 80 years old.
Karl was born July 19, 1930, in Sherman, son of Maurice and Adeline Lanham Sanders. He graduated from Sherman High School in 1948 and Austin College in 1960. Mr. Sanders served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict, and married Edith Liland on September 4, 1954 in Dallas. Mr. Sanders joined his father and owned and operated Sanders Sporting Goods in Sherman from 1957 - 1977. He was later a former plant manager of Day Manufacturing Company. He was a former member of the Sherman Noon Lions Club and the Sherman High School Alumni Association where he had served as treasurer. Mr. Sanders was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church and enjoyed cooking with the "Doughboys."
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Edith of Sherman; sons, Karl "Corky" Sanders, Jr. of Austin, Jeff Sanders and wife Nina of Dallas, and Jim Sanders of Richardson; daughter, Laura Hill and husband Jeff of Sherman; four grandchildren, Jenniffer Hill, Jeffrey Hill, Elizabeth Sanders, and Michelle Sanders; brother-in-law, Philip Deck of Houston; nieces and nephews, Patricia Howington, Deanna Deck, Catherine Moore, Michael Deck, Mike Gillespie, Bobby Gillespie, Joel Gillespie, and Mary Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Carolyn Deck and Maurine Gillespie.

Edith Mae Liland was born Friday, December 25, 1930 in Harmony Township, Wisconsin, daughter of Ingvald and Ethel Martin Liland and departed this life on Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at the age of 85.
Edith grew up and graduated high school in Whiting, Indiana in 1949.  She moved to Dallas where she was a legal secretary.  She married Karl Sanders in Dallas on September 4, 1954.  After serving an enlistment in the United States Air Force, they settled in Karl's hometown of Sherman where she worked for Slagle, Joiner and Fleming, Attorneys.
Edith was a faithful and longtime member of First United Methodist Church and helped deliver Meals on Wheels to many homebound seniors for many years.  Edith had a passion for playing Bridge.  She became a life member of the American Contract Bridge League,  She enjoyed needlepoint, crocheting, knitting and was an excellent seamstress.  She created numerous afghans, pictures, church kneelers and even custom made Christmas stockings.
Edith was preceeded in death by her parents; husband; and 5 brothers and 2 sisters.
She is survived by her sons, Karl Sanders, Jr. of Dallas, Texas; Jeff Sanders and wife, Nina, of Dallas, Texas; and Jim Sanders and wife, Nona, of Richardson, Texas; daughter, Laura Hill and husband, Jeff, of Sherman, Texas; sisters, Harla Kristek of Ogden Dunes, Indiana; Hilda Liland of Jacksonville, Florida; Evelyn Adams and husband, Bob, of Sun City, Arizona; and Grace Figuly and husband, Jerry, of Jacksonville, Florida; grandchildren, Jennifer Simpson; Jeffrey Hill and wife, Brandi; Lizzie Sanders; and Michelle Sanders; great-grandchildren, Jaydence Simpson; Jagger Simpson; and Bradlee Hill; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday morning, December 20 in Hopkins Chapel at the First United Methodist Church with Pasto Joe Ed Goolsby officiating.  She was laid to rest at West Hill Cemetery.

Karl Paxton "Corky" Sanders, Jr., 61, passed away Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas, after a courageous battle with multiple myeloma.  Graveside services were held Saturday morning, July 8, 2017 at West Hill Cemetery in Sherman.  Services were under the direction of Waldo Funeral Home.
Corky was born September 12, 1955 at Langley AFB, Virginia, son of Karl Paxton Sanders and Edith Mae Liland Sanders.  Corky graduated from Sherman High School and had recently obtained his BA from the University of Texas at Arlington.  He enjoyed listening, playing and recording music and playing his guitar in his free time.
He is survived by his brother, Jeff Sanders and wife, Nina; brother, Jim Sanders and wife, Nona; his sister, Laura Hill and husband, Jeff; niece Jennifer Hill Simpson; nephew, Jeffrey Hill and wife, Brandi; niece, Lizzie Sanders; niece, Michelle Sanders; great-niece Jaydence Simpson; great-nephew Jagger Simpson; and great-nephew, Bradlee Hill.
