RITES MONDAY FOR SISTER OF MRS. GRACE STARK
Services were held Monday at the Richards Funeral Chapel for Mrs. Verna Cooke Sappenfield, 83, who died Saturday afternoon at her home, 511 E. Main, Whitesboro.  Rev. Harold Watson, pastor of First Baptist Church, conducted the services.  Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery at Sherman.
Mrs. Sappenfield was born January 10, 1888 in Van Alstyne.  Her parents were the late Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Morrow.  She married W.R. Cooke on December 25, 1925.  Mr. Cooke died on September 7, 1950, and she married William J. Sappenfield on June 6, 1955.  Mr. Sappenfield died January 23, 1956.
Mrs. Sappenfield had taught school for 58 years in Sherman, Howe, Whitewright, Gunter and Whitesboro.  She received her education at Austin College, University of Colorado and Columbia University.  Mrs. Sappenfield was a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, Eastern Star, and First Baptist Church, Whitesboro.
She is survived by a brother, J.N. Morrow of Sherman; a sister, Mrs. Grace Stark of Howe; three nieces and three nephews.
