JOSEPH H. ECKEL DIES AT HOSPITAL
Joseph H. Eckel, 78, of route 1, Sherman retired ice cream plant operator, died at St. Vincent's Hospital Sunday at 9 p.m.  He was a native of Tennessee.
Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at the Waldo Funeral Chapel.  Rev. Ed Barcus, pastor of the Travis Street Methodist Church, conducted.  Pallbearers were Billy Hardy, Floyd Hardy, Clarence Davis, King Finnell, H.L. Crenshaw, Jack Roberts, O.V. Estes, and Tip Newell.  Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Eckel was born at Knoxville, Tennessee. January. 28, 1882, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Eckel.  He was married to Miss Dora Lee McCormick at Denison, February 16, 1922.  He was a member of the Methodist Church and the Elks Lodge.
Mr. Eckel traveled for Warner and Jenkinson and Co. out of St. Louis, Missouri, for a number of years.  In 1913 he went into business for himself and operated a number of ice cream manufacturing plants in Central and Southeast Oklahoma, and at Sherman, Denison and Bonham.  He retired in 1947.
