Atlee Hendon 1910 - 1926 The Whitewright Sun Thursday, February 18, 1926 pg. 1 BURNING GAS FUMES FATAL TO SHERMAN BOY Atlee Hendon, 16-year-old son of John Hendon of Sherman, died at that place Monday from ruptured lungs sustained Sunday. He was cleaning out a gasoline tank and had washed it with warm water and dried it out. In order to see if it was clear of gas he had another boy light a match on one side of it and blew into the tank to see if the air would go through. An explosion of gas followed, going into his mouth and down his lungs, rupturing both of them. He lingered until Monday. Young Hendon is survived by his father, two brothers, and one sister.
