Philip Wayne Page
William Bennett James Jr.
Crash Victims Due Services

Edna – Separate funeral services will be held Saturday for Philip Wayne Page, 18, and William Bennett James Jr., 18, victims of a one-vehicle accident on Farm-to-Market Road 822 eight miles north of Edna Thursday night.

Both were residents of Edna, however Page was a student in Edna High School and James in Industrial High School at Vanderbilt.

The other three Edna High School students injured in the same accident were reported in good condition Friday. Two had been released from the Edna Hospital, and one was listed in satisfactory condition.

State Troopers J. J. Ballesteros and Art Garza said Page was driving a 1978 model pickup truck south at a high rate of speed when it ran off the road to the right while failing to negotiate a curve. The officers said the vehicle then went left across the road, running off the road to the left, traveling down a ditch before hitting a fence post and overturning.

They said the vehicle caught fire with Page trapped inside. The four passengers, all also riding in the cab, were thrown out.

Services for Page will be held at 10 a. m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Edna with the Rev. Joe Webb officiating. Burial will be in the Page Cemetery under direction of Slavik Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Brian Miska, Gregory Cuellar, Ronnie Hubenak, Darren Miller, Tommy Psencik and John Pearson. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the 1980 Edna High senior class.

Philip was born Nov. 15, 1961, in Ganado and was a senior in Edna High and a member of the FFA Chapter there.

He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Page of Edna, and a sister, Gaye Crabb of Edna.

Services for James will be held at 4:30 p. m. Saturday at the Edna Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Richard Stone officiating. Burial will be in Edna Memory Gardens under direction of Slavik’s.

Pallbearers will be Frankie Trojcak, James Eager, Mark Varley, Kent and Gary Dacke, and Tip North. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the 1980 Industrial High senior class.

William was born Oct. 9, 1961, in Ganado. He was a senior in Industrial High School at Vanderbilt where he was on the football, track and golf teams. He was a member of the Vanderbilt Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Joan James of Edna, and a brother, Roger Dale Ellis of Houston.
