Lillian Marie Jones

Edna – Funeral services for Lillian Marie Jones, 60, of Edna have been set for 2:30 p. m. Sunday in the Jackson County Funeral Service chapel in Edna. The Rev. Joe Webb will officiate, with burial to be in Memory Gardens of Edna.

Mrs. Jones was born Dec. 16, 1922 in Wharton County. She died in a local hospital Thursday, on her birthday, following a lengthy illness.

Her husband, the late Buddy Jones, died in 1976.

Mrs. Jones was a retired businesswoman here. She also formerly was manager of the Edna Country Club for many years. She was a member of the Texana Museum and Library Association here, and of the VFW Womens Auxiliary of Victoria.

She is survived by a son, Charles Van Jones Sr. of Edna; a brother, Willard Cihal of Ganado; three sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Conner and Mrs. Doris Fowler, both of Ganado and Mrs. Wilma Willoughby of Rock Springs, Wyo.; and five grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Wayne Miller, Sonny Egg, Harvey Reynolds, Douglas Vickers, Tad Rose and E. W. Meadows.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Berry, Homer Baugh, Billy Porche, Possum Shelby, Leo Michalek and John Carter.

Ruby May Sutton Jones

Port Lavaca – Ruby May Sutton Jones, 93, of Port Lavaca, died Sunday, March 15, 1998.

She was born Feb. 12, 1905, in Limestone County to the late Robert Lee and Ella Martin Sutton. She was a homemaker and member of First Indianola Baptist Church.

Survivors: daughters, Shirley Jurek of Port Lavaca; sons, C. W. “Dub” Jones of Franklin and William Jones of New Hebron, Miss.; 14 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: husband, Curtis Weldon Jones; daughter, Steva Jones: sons, Garvis Jones and Billy Jones; sister, Della Sanders, Dill Sparks, Ruth Sanders and Lizzie Duke; and brother, William “Son” Sutton.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p. m. today at Richardson Funeral Home chapel.

Services will be at 10 a. m. Tuesday at the funeral home, the Revs. Frank Boldt and Bill Sutton officiating.

Graveside services and burial will be at noon at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Edna. Richardson Funeral Home, Port Lavaca, 552-2988.

Walter Stuart Jones
Suffers Fatal Stroke

Mr. W. S. Jones, aged 67 years, suffered a stroke at his home a few miles above Edna on Highway 111, Monday. He was taken to the hospital at Ganado in the Slavik ambulance. He died a few minutes after reaching the hospital.

The funeral service was held Tuesday afternoon at the Slavik Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Pat Marse conducted the service.

The remains were laid to rest in the Edna Cemetery.

Mr. Jones had resided in or near Edna for the past 6 or 7 years. He sold a sweeping compound to the Edna merchants for the past year or two. He was also known as the raiser of fine milk goats.

He is survived by his widow.

W. J. Jones

Lolita – William James Jones, 80, of Lolita, died Friday in Fredericksburg following a short illness.

He was born Sept. 12, 1907, in Rusk, son of the late Bill and Jennie Tullis Jones. He retired in 1971 from Mobil Oil, and had lived in Jackson County since 1944. He married the former Berma Mitchell on June 25, 1935, in Vernon.

Funeral services will be at 2 p. m. Sunday at Slavik Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Roy Meadows of First Baptist Church in Lolita will officiate.

Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Edna.

He is survived by his wife, Berma Jones of Lolita; a daughter, Linda McDonald of Lolita; two sons, William James Jones Jr. of Port Lavaca and Johnny E. Jones of Victoria; a sister, Dorothy Ware of Houston; four brothers, M. B. Jones of Texas City, T. A. Jones and R. C. Jones of Luling, and Gerald G. Jones of Dallas; and five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

William K. Jones

Port Lavaca – William “Kenny” Kenneth Jones, 66, of New Hebron, Miss., and formerly of Port Lavaca died Sunday, July 12, 1998.

He was born May 18, 1932, in Red Bluff to the late Curtis and Ruby Sutton Jones. He was a construction tile setter.

Survivors: two daughters; two sons; sister, Shirley Jurek of Port Lavaca; brother, C. W. “Dub” Jones of Franklin.

Preceded in death by a son; a sister and two brothers.

Military graveside services by VFW Post 4403 will be held 6 p. m. today at Memory Gardens of Edna, the Rev. Danny Wilson officiating.

Services are pending at Richardson Funeral Home, Port Lavaca, 552-2988.

Ruby Ethel Curlee Jordan

Ruby Ethel Curlee Jordan, 101, of Edna, died Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2005.

She was born Oct. 25, 1904, in Kaufman, to the late Nathan and Cynthia Alice Eastwood Curlee. She was a retired clerk for Faires Drug Store in Edna and a Baptist.

Survivors: daughter, Dixie Laird of Edna; sons, J. D. “Poncho” Cunningham of Woodville and Calvin Cunningham of Fort Worth; 14 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and 25 great-great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: daughter, Carvelita Chase; sister, Vera Green; and brothers, Jesse Curlee, Dave Curlee, J. P. Curlee and Tom Curlee.

Services will be 1:30 p. m. today at Oaklawn Funeral Home chapel, the Brother Danny Reeves officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens of Edna Cemetery. Oaklawn Funeral Home, Edna, 361-782-2221.

Thomas J. Jordan

Edna – Funeral services for Thomas Jefferson Jordan, 85, of Edna, who died here Thursday after a lengthy illness, will be held at the Jackson County Funeral Home Chapel at 2 p. m. Sunday.

The Rev. J. A. Munson Jr., pastor of Edna Baptist Temple, will officiate.

Burial will be at Memory Gardens of Edna following an Edna Masonic Lodge No. 767 AF-AM graveside service.

Pallbearers will include members of the Edna Masonic Lodge.

Jordan was born Nov. 23, 1897, in Arkansas. He was a member of the Allen Masonic Lodge No. 81 AF-AM of Allen, Oklahoma and a member of the Baptist church.

Survivors include his wife, Juanita Jordan; and a son, Thomas Jefferson Jordan Jr. both of Edna; plus, three additional sons from a previous marriage who live in California, New Mexico and New York, respectively.

Elvin D. Judd

Edna – Elvin D. Judd, 84, of Edna died Friday, May 12, 1995.

He was born Oct. 4, 1910, in Sublime to the late Burl Judd and Amelia Reckaway Judd. He was former president of Edna Rotary Club, a member of the board of directors of American Plant Foods, former president of Jackson County Chamber of Commerce and a member of First United Methodist Church. He was a retired manager of Edna Rice Elevators.

Survivors: wife, Ora Belle Miracle Judd; daughter, Joy Born of Victoria; sons, John Judd of El Campo and Gary Judd of Portland; sister, Shirley Bram of Danevang and three grandchildren.

Preceded in death by a sister and a brother.

Services: 2 p. m. today, First United Methodist Church, the Revs. Billy Hammond and Rick Burk officiating.

Burial: Memory Gardens, Slavik Funeral Home, Edna, 782-2152.

Pallbearers: Oliver McDonald, George Frazier, Ed Lehnert, Manuel Ramirez, David Bram, Frank Grewe, Wilbert Hansen and Ralph Shoberg.

Ora Belle Judd

Edna – Ora Belle Judd, 82, of Edna, died Monday, April 3, 2000.

She was born April 8, 1917, in Grandfield, Okla., to the late William J. B. and Gladys Pinnell Judd Miracle. She was a retired nurse and a member of First United Methodist Church of Edna.

Survivors: daughter, Joy Born of Victoria; sons, John E. Judd of El Campo and Gary W. Judd of Portland; sister, Cloda Ray Gilpin of Bryan; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Preceded in death by: husband Elvin D. Judd; parents.

Services will be 10 a.m. today at Rosewood Funeral Chapels, the Rev. Ricky Burk officiating.

Private burial at a late time at Memory Gardens of Edna, the Rev. Russell Minton officiating. Rosewood Funeral Chapels, Victoria, 773-4546.

Joe Jurcak

La Salle – Graveside funeral services for Joe Jurcak, 85, of La Salle, who died Thursday, will be held at 2 p. m. Saturday at Memory Gardens of Edna.

The Rev. J. Frank Schulman, pastor of Emerson Unitarian Church of Houston, will officiate. Slavik Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers will be Joe, Glenn, Adolph, Rudy and James Elles and Edwin Milian.

He is survived by his wife, Matilda, whom he married Oct. 10, 1927, in Hillsboro; and a brother, John Jurcak of Czechoslovakia.

Matilda Jurcak

LaSalle – Matilda “Tillie” Jurcak, 93, of LaSalle, died Tuesday, March 25, 2003.

She was born June 22, 1909, in Rosebud, to the late Joseph Elles Sr. and Rosalie Hanulik. She was a homemaker and a member of the SPJST and of Vanderbilt Presbyterian Church.

Survivors: sister, Oline Horn of Edna; and brothers, Joe Elles of Edna and Franklin Elles of Victoria.

Preceded in death by: husband, Josef Jurcak; parents; sister, Adina Strmiska; and brothers, Adolph Elles, Rudy Elles and Harry Elles.

Graveside services will be 2 p. m. Thursday at Memory Gardens of Edna, the Rev. Terry Bozarth officiating. Slavik Funeral Home, Edna, 362-782-2152.

Bertha Minnie Jurek

EL CAMPO - Bertha Minnie Jurek, age 73 of El Campo died January 28, 2012. She was born April 16, 1938 in Gonzales to the late Chester and Gertrude Schuenemann Holcombe.

She is survived by daughter, Linda Parks (Charles) of Huntsville; brothers, Virgil Holcombe (Doris) of Luling, Calvin Holcombe (Beaulah) of Victoria, David Holcombe of Gonzales; 2 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will begin 10:00 AM Friday at Faith Lutheran Church with services beginning at 11:00 AM with Pastor Clyde Grier officiating. Burial will follow at 2:00 PM at Memory Gardens in Edna.
