Clark Murphy, Jr.

Bay City—Clark Murphy Jr. 74, of Bay City, died Thursday, May 4, 2006.

He was born April 12, 1932, to the late Clark Murphy Sr. and Laura Thymes Murphy.

Survivors: brothers, Calvin Murphy and Donald Murphy, both of Houston.

Visitation will be 3 – 9 p. m. today at Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home chapel.

Services will be 2 p. m. Sunday at Bethlehem Christian Church in Cedar Lake, the Rev. K. W. Bree officiating.

Clyde Murphy, Sr.

Funeral services for Clyde Murphy Sr., 80, of Rosharon, Texas and formerly of Cedar Lake, Texas will be held Saturday February 3, 2001 at 1 p. m. at Bethlehem Christian Church in Cedar Lake.

Mr. Murphy will lie in state at the church Saturday from noon until 1 p. m. Visitation will be held Friday afternoon until 9 p. m. in the chapel at Green’s Mortuary. Family will receive friends from 7 – 9 p. m.

Clyde was born to the union of Johnnie Murphy and Roberta Gee Murphy on October 3, 1920 in Sargent, Texas. He passed away Jan. 28 at his residence in Rosharon.

He was a member of Local 116, in Freeport, Texas.

He leaves to cherish his memories; a devoted, loyal and faithful wife Rosa Lee Murphy of Rosharon; seven daughters, Betty Murphy Stevenson and Eunice of Freeport, Shirley Stredick of Houston, Rita and LaGranett Murphy of Houston, Lenora Andrews of Lake Jackson, Millie Wright and John of Lake Jackson, Delores Brinkley and Nathaniel of Van Vleck and Labertha Murphy of Cedar Lane; six sons, Clyde Murphy Jr. and Rosetta of Cedar Lake, Robert Murphy and Mamie of Houston, Marshall Murphy and Anita of Brazoria, Robert Moore of Addis, La., Harold Murphy of Houston, Mark Murphy and Darlene of Hampton Virginia; one sister, Carrie Phillips of Cedar Lake; one stepdaughter, Irene Oglonnaya of Houston; one grandson Reidie James Jackson of Houston; one son-in-law, Arthur Jackson of Cedar Lake; daughter-in-law, Dinah F. Murphy of Houston; four sisters-in-law, Naomi Murphy of Cedar Lane, Johnnie Mae Kelly and Ruben of Rosharon, Janie Wallace and Annie Eliza Aught of Houston; two devoted nieces, Bessie Mae Henry and Alberta English of Rosharon; 39 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren and many other nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by: children, Lucinda Murphy Jackson, Woodrow Murphy, Sr., and Steven Moore; five brothers, Steve, Sandy, Clark, Albert and Woodrow; four sisters, Sophia, Lucinda, Millie and Evelyn.

Active pallbearers are to be Calvin Murphy, Kenneth Edison, Thomas Bree, Willie Griffin, Billie Dale, Jr., Donald Ray Murphy, Michael Edison, Emmanuel Bree, Richard Harris and Albert Wideman. Honorary pallbearers are to be, Clyde Murphy, Jr., Robert Murphy, Marshall Murphy, Marshall Murphy, Eunice Stevenson, Sr., Robert Moore, Harold Murphy, Mark Murphy, and John Wright.

Green’s Mortuary is in charge of all the arrangements.

Juanita Murphy “Shorty”

Funeral service for Juanita Murphy, 88, of Bay City will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 1, 2012, at Bethlehem Christian Church in Cedar Lake.

Burial will follow at Bethlehem Cemetery in Cedar Lake, Texas.

She died Friday, November 23, 2012.

Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, at Dixon Funeral Home in Brazoria, Texas.

There will be viewing at the church only from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012.

Leonard Ray Murphy

Cedar Lane - Funeral services for Leonard Ray Murphy, 56, formerly of Cedar Lane, who passed away May 31, 2007 in Houston, will be held at 11 a.m. today at Bethlehem Christian Church in Cedar Lake. His brother, the Rev. K. W. Bree will serve as eulogist.

Leonard Ray Murphy
April 3, 1951 - May 31, 2007

A baby boy born April 3, 1951 to Pearlie Mae Murphy Bree in Sargent, Matagorda County, Texas, named "Leonard Ray." Leonard was reared by his paternal grandparents, Sandy and Luberta Murphy. Leonard known by many as "Baby Ray" grew up in the Sargent and Cedar Lake Community.

He attended school at O. H. Herman High School, Van Vleck, Texas. Leonard was baptized at an early age under the leadership of the late Rev. Lloyd Brown at Bethlehem Christian Church, Cedar Lake, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Pearlie Mae Murphy Bree and Step-Father Lawrence Bree, Sr.; his grandparents, Sandy and Luberta Murphy; and son, Anthony Ray Monroe.

His earthly journey came to an end on Thursday, May 31, 2007 9:30 AM at Twelve Oaks Medical Center, Houston, Texas.

Leonard leaves to cherish his memories, wife, Benita Murphy, of Bay City, Texas; one son, Willie (Nicki) Monroe of Bay City, Texas; five sisters: Sandra Scott (Lemuel) of Houston, Texas, Leola Murphy of Bay City, Texas, Gwendolyn Griggs (Eddie) and Ardith Sidney all of Lake Jackson, Texas, and Jacqueline Moore of Cedar Lane, Texas. Millie M. Murphy

BAY CITY. Tex--Funeral services for Mrs. Millie Murphy, 70, of Bay City, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bethel [Bethlehem] Christian Church in Cedar Lake, Tex.

Burial will be in Bethel [Bethlehem] Cemetery in Cedar Lake. Local arrangements are under Fields Funeral Home.

A wake will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Duncan Funeral Home in Bay City.

Mrs. Murphy died at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in a Bay City Hospital after a brief Illness.

She was born March 5, 1906 , and in Cedar Lake and a member of the Bethel [Bethlehem] Christian Church.

Survivors include two sons, Willie Young of Philadelphia, Pa. and Claude Lee Williams of Oklahoma City; five brothers Steve Murphy, Clark Murphy, Sandy Murphy and Clyde Murphy all of Bay City and W. W. Murphy of Galveston; and two sisters Mrs. Lucinda Austin of Galveston and Mrs. Carrie Phillips of Cedar Lake.

Pallbearers will be E. R. Baldridge, David Robinson, Samuel Jacquito, James Williams and William Millican.

Sandy Murphy

Funeral service for Mr. Sandy Murphy, age 92, of Cedar Lake, will be Saturday, Jan. 6, at 2 p. m. at Bethlehem Christian Church in Cedar Lake, with his grandson, the Rev. Kenneth W. Bree officiating.

Burial will follow at Bethlehem Cemetery in Cedar Lake.

Visitation will be Friday until 9 p. m. in the Chapel of Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home.

Mr. Murphy was born in Sargent Sunday, July 5, 1903, to Johnny Murphy and Roberta Gee Murphy, and died Friday, Dec. 29, 1995, at Bellaire General Hospital in Bellaire.

Survivors include one step-daughter, Mrs. Eula Mae Carter of Cedar Lake, and one son-in-law, Lawrence Bree, Sr. of Bay City. Also four grandchildren he reared, Sandra Murphy Scott, Leonard Murphy, Leola Murphy and Jacqueline Moore, and the remainder of 19 grandchildren, Diane Griggs, Audrey Sidney, the Rev. K. W. Bree, the Rev. Mark Anthony Bree, Thomas Bree, Lawrence Bree, Jr., Kevin Lewis Bree, Emanuel Bree, Marva Powell, Archivera Carter, Luberta Carter, Nettie Bivens, Rosa Mary Jackson, Donald Carter and Willie Carter, Jr.

Also one sister, Mrs. Carrie Phillips of Cedar Lake, one brother, Clyde Murphy, Sr. of Cedar Lake; 5 sisters-in-law, Mrs. Naomi Murphy, Mrs. Juanita Murphy, Mrs. Rosa Murphy, Mrs. Carrie Green and Mrs. Mary Wilson, and one brother-in-law, Roosevelt Green, Sr.

He leaves 49 great-grandchildren, 17 great-great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and a family of many, many friends.

Beside his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Luberta Woodard Tone Murphy, one daughter, Pearlie Bree, one granddaughter, Willie Mae Johnson, four sisters, Sophie, Evelyn, Millie and Lucinda, and four brothers, Albert, Steve, Clark and Woodrow.

Active pallbearers will include Anthony Edison, Herman Edison, Michael Edison, Eddie Griggs, II, Sidney Mitchell, Calvin Murphy, Clyde Murphy, Jr., Clark Murphy, Jr. Lemuel Scott, Jr., Rodgers Thymes, Robert Young and Larry Young. Steve Murphy

Funeral services for Steve Murphy, 89, of Cedar Lane will be held 1 p. m. Saturday at Bethlehem Christian Church, Cedar Lake, with the Rev. Richard Austin, pastor of Church of God in Christ, Hitchcock, officiating. Burial will be in Bethlehem Cemetery, Cedar Lake.

Visitation will be until 9 p. m. today at Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home and from noon to 1 p. m. at the church. A quiet time will be observed from 8 to 9 p. m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mr. Murphy was born April 16, 1899, in Cedar Lake to Johnny and Rebecca Gee Murphy and died April 20, 1988, at Angleton-Danbury Hospital, Angleton.

He was a member of Gulf Coast Masonic Lodge 272 and the Christian church.

Survivors include his wife, Naomi Murphy of Cedar Lane; two daughters, Lillie M. Simms of San Francisco, Calif., and Ella Mae Williams of Freeport; a son, Gifford Murphy of Hitchcock; a sister, Carrie Phillips of Cedar Lake; four brothers, Clark Murphy of Bay City, Woodrow Murphy of Galveston; Sandy Murphy and Clyde Murphy of Cedar Lake; 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews and other relatives.

Pallbearers include Calvin Murphy, Donald Murphy, Jerome Murphy, Reginald Williams, Willard Williams, Bruce Williams and Marvin Thomas.

Honorary pallbearers include Gifford Murphy, Woodrow Murphy, Clark Murphy, Sandy Murphy, Clyde Murphy, Rodgers Thymes and Timothy Mitchell.

Zelma Napier

In Cedar Lake Community in the year of 1908, a baby girl was born to the Holy union of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Law. They named this baby girl Zelma.

She grew up in this community and attended public school.

She confessed Christ at an early age and was united with the Bethlehem Christian Church.

After an early marriage she moved to Galveston but in later years she made her home in Sweeny.

She united with the Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Elder J. B. Allen.

At the time of her departure she was a faithful and loyal member.

She departed this life on Wednesday evening July 17, 1968 in Bay City Hospital. She leaves to mourn her home-going two sons, Mr. Elliot Austin of Hitchcock, Texas, Mr. George Johnson of Houston, Texas, one daughter, Mrs. Pauline Jones of Sweeny, Texas, five sisters, one brother, a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral service, Sunday, July 21, 1968, Bethlehem Christian Church, Cedar Lake, Texas, Rev. J. B. Allen, officiating.

Pallbearers: Elliot Austin, Sr., Elliot Austin, Jr., George Johnson, Hal Jones, Charles Shakesnider and Earsel Thomas.

Van Parks

Funeral services for Van Parks, 63, of Bay City, will be held Saturday, Aug. 16, at 11 a. m. at First Sacred Memorial Christian Church in Bay City with Rev. A. H. Foyd officiating. Burial will follow at Bethlehem Cemetery in Cedar Lake.

Visitation will be Friday until 9 p. m. in the chapel of Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home, and Saturday form 10 a. m. until 11 a. m. at the church.

Parks was born in Sargent on Sunday, Dec. 31, 1933, to Isiah Parks and Nancy Spencer Parks passed away Saturday, Aug. 9 at his residence in Bay City.

Parks was enlisted in the United States Armed Forces, Department of the Air Force until his honorable discharge in March, 1962. Commendations received included the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Nancy Parks on Aug. 17, 1980; his father, I. J. Parks on Sept. 22, 1980; a brother, I. J. Grice on April 26, 1992; a nephew, Terrish Jackson on Nov. 27, 1996; and a sister-in-law, Nelda Perry on Dec. 5, 1996.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Faye Parks of Bay City; one daughter, Andrea Parks of Silver Spring, Maryland; a son, Rev. Van Carlton Parks, Jr., of Houston; four step-children, Vincent and wife Jennifer, Angela, Shanna and Boyd; two step-grandchildren, Shandrei and Vincent Lee; four sisters, Mrs. Louise Crockett, Mrs. Janie Mae Casey, and Mrs. Florence John, all of Bay City; Ms. Arlene Grice of Houston; a cousin reared as a brother, Hubert Durgan of Bay City.

Other Survivors include four aunts, Mrs. Cassie Baugh, Mrs. Adnese Bess, Mrs. Frances Jones, and Ms. Lucinda Smith; eight uncles, Phillip Merchant, Sr., Mack Durgan, Rev. J. A. Wrenn, Matthew Smith, Sr., Marseen Smith, Sr., Wesley Smith, Sr., R. L. Smith and A. J. Smith; mother-in-law, Mrs. Irene Perry; five sisters-in-law, Mrs. Lorene Harris, Mrs. Betty Jackson, Ms. Sharon Perry, Mrs. Kathleen Perry, and Mrs. Velva Nurse; three brothers-in-law, Walter Perry, Jr., Wallace Perry, and Don Perry. Also a host of other relatives and a family of many, many friends.

Pallbearers will be the Isiah-Nancy Parks family in the Walter-Irene Perry family. Honorary pallbearers will include “Sonny’s” friends.

Anthony Parson

Funeral Services for Anthony Parson, 48, of Clute will be Saturday, December 7, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at First United Missionary Baptist Church, 324 South Ave G, Freeport, TX with Pastor Ondra Waddy officiating.  Burial will follow at Bethlehem Christian Cemetery in Cedar Lake, TX.

He passed away at his residence on Sunday, December 1, 2013.

Anthony graduated from Brazosport High School in 1983.  He was one of the best marble shooters when he was growing up and he hated to lose.  He was an avid Dallas Cowboy fan.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his mother, Veola Parson, Clute; brothers, Mansfield Parson, Jr. (Diana), Calvin Parson, both of Clute, Robert Parson and Alfred Parson, both of Freeport, Nevin Parson, Sr. (Delicia), Brazoria, Gary Parson and Eric Parson, both of Wharton; sisters, Veosa Jammer (Clennon Mills), Clute, Sherounda Woodard, Freeport; uncle, George Merchant, San Diego, CA; aunts, Hattie Mae Wright, Freeport, Joyce Demus, San Antonio, Viola Ceaser (Charles), El Campo; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
