Hattie Klein Bunk

Hattie Klein Bunk, 82, of Bay City passed away at her residence on Sunday, June 22, 1997 following a lengthy illness.

She was born Oct. 14, 1914 in Glen Flora to Otto and Louise Glueck Klein. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Bay City where she was intimately involved with the life of the church for 60 years and was an ordained elder. She was honored as Woman of the Year of the Presbyterian Women. She worked actively with the Salvation Army and American Cancer Society for 40 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband Frank J. Bunk in 1981, her grandson Blake Newman Bunk in 1992, and by her brother Walter “Bud” Klein.

She is survived by her son, Dr. John F. Bunk and wife Nanci of Richmond; and her daughter Annette Smith and husband Dr. Gordon Smith of Bay City. Grandsons are J. Charles Bunk and wife, Denise of San Antonio, Craig A. Bunk and wife, Elizabeth of Houston; Christopher J. Smith and wife, Mindy of Bay City. Her granddaughter is Mary Catheirne Mergenhagen and husband, Paul of Houston. Her great grandson is Foley Blake Bunk of Houston. Her step-brother is Richard C. Jones and wife, Annie of Bay City.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p. m. today at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Sam Steele officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City.

Pallbearers include, Charles Bunk, Craig Bunk, Chris Smith, Paul Mergenhagen, Bill Klein, and George J. Bunk.

The family requests that memorials be made to the First Presbyterian Church of the American Cancer Society.

Arrangements are with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City.

Funeral services will be held for Frank J. Bunk, 71, of Bay City, 11 a. m. Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church.

Officiating at the services will be the Rev. Frank Seaman.

Bunk died December 28, 1981 at his residence.

Survivors are wife, Hattie Kline Bunk of Bay City; daughter and son-in-law, Annette and Dr. T. Gordon Smith of Bay City; son and daughter-in-law, John F. and Nanci Bunk of Richmond; sister, Theresa Bunk of Bay City; brothers, George and Henry Bunk both of Wadsworth, Clarence Bunk of Bay City; grandchildren, Mary Catherine and Chris Smith of Bay City, Charles Craig and Blake Bunk of Richmond.

Bunk was a life long resident of Bay City.

Burial will follow services at Cedarvale Cemetery.

Pallbearers include Richard Jones, James Birkner, Hart Soli, Walter Gavender, Thelbert Simpson and Jimmy Dykes.

Honorary pallbearers include M. D. Grassman, Jerry Bodenburg, Walter Mayer, Clyde Estlinbaum, Rip Schultz, Rick Lehman and Elders of the First Presbyterian Church.

Mary Bunk

Mrs. Mary Bunk Dies, Requiem Mass Is Thursday

Requiem mass will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Church at 9 a. m. Thursday for Mrs. Mary Bunk, 83, a longtime Matagorda County resident.

Mrs. Bunk died Tuesday.

Rosary will be said at Taylor Brothers Funeral chapel at 8 o’clock tonight.

The Rev. C. J. Martin will officiate at both services.

Surviving are one daughter, Teresa Bunk, Bay City; five sons, John W. Bunk, Newgulf; George A. Bunk and Henry R. Bunk, both of Wadsworth; Frank J. Bunk and Clarence T. Bunk, both of Bay City; sisters, Mrs. Annie Schulte, Houston; Mrs. Elizabeth Cosack, San Antonio; Mrs. Katherine Schulte, Blessing; one brother, Martin Herreth, Van Vleck.

Interment will be in Cedarvale Cemetery.

Theresa M. Bunk

Theresa Mae Bunk, 85, of Bay City died April 24, 2003 at the Legacy. She was born in Wadsworth, Texas on July 27, 1917, the only daughter of John and Mary Herreth Bunk, members of pioneering Matagorda County families. Mrs. Bunk was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and a lifelong resident of Matagorda Co. She graduated from old Gulf High School and was a graduate of San Antonio Beauty College. She owned and operated Theresa’s Beauty Parlor in Bay City for many years.

She is survived by one brother and sisters-in-law: Clarence Thomas and Vada Bunk of Bay City and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and four brothers and sister-in-law: John Walter, Bertha Bunk, George Andrew, Helen Bunk, Henry Francis, Juanita Bunk, Frank James and Hattie Bunk.

Rosary was held at 7 p.m. Friday, April 25, 2003, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home, and the Funeral Mass was held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Cross Catholic Church with the Rev. Casey Jarzombek officiating.

Interment followed at Cedarvale Cemetery.

Pallbearers were: James Allen, Chris Smith, Dr. John Bunk, Terrence Allen, Michael Bunk, and Henry Francis Bunk .

Memorials may be made to Holy Cross School Foundation.

Christina “Tina” Crowley Callaway, 84, resident of Bay City for the past 37 years, formerly of Gulf and New Gulf, died at Matagorda House September 3. She was preceded in death by her husband William M. Callaway. Survivors include: son, Colonel George D. Callaway, U. S. Army Retired; daughter-in-law, Margaret E. Callaway of Bay City; and grandson, Captain David G. Callaway of Ft. Benning, Georgia. Funeral services will be held at Bay City Funeral Home Chapel Wednesday, September 5 at 2:30 p. m. Rev. Howard "Skipper" Carroll Jr.
(March 26, 1942 - August 17, 2012)

Howard Lonnie “Skipper” Carroll Jr., 70, of Bay City passed away Friday, August 17, 2012. He was born March 26, 1942 in Bay City Texas to the late Lilla Hammock & Howard Lonnie Carroll Sr. Skipper was a life long resident of Bay City, served his Country as a member of the Air Force, served Matagorda County as a Deputy Constable, and he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

His daughter Mandy Coker and her husband Dave of Houston, Texas, his son Reagan Carroll and his wife Yorinda and daughter Amanda of The Woodlands, Texas and his son Ronnie Carroll and wife Natalie and their son Jeffrey of Bay City, Texas, and his sister Barbara Thornton of Brazoria survive him. Many wonderful and loving nieces and nephews also survive him. Skipper was preceded in death by his parents, and his loving wife of 49 years Lynda Jane Carroll in July.

A graveside service will be held 1:00 PM Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at Cedarvale Cemetery.

BAY CITY- Lynda Jane London Carroll. 66, of Bay City, Texas passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 7, 2012. Lynda was born on January 5, 1946, in Bonham, Texas to Jones Reagan London and Roma Estelle Jackson London.

Survivors include her husband, Howard (Skipper) Carroll of Bay City; her daughter Mandy Coker and her husband Dave of Houston, Texas, her son Reagan Carroll and his wife Yorinda and daughter Amanda of The Woodlands, Texas and her son Ronnie Carroll and wife Natalie and their son Jeffrey of Bay City, Texas. She is also survived by 3 sisters, Anna Lou Slovacek of Greenville, Texas, Wanda Beane of Austin, Texas and Sue Smith of Ft. Worth, Texas. She is also survived by many wonderful and loving nieces and nephews.

Lynda was a loving wife for 49 years to Skipper and a wonderful mother not only to Mandy, Reagan and Ronnie, but even to those whom she loved as family. She was a mother to a lot of people. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, crocheting and many other numerous crafts. You could always hear her say, "I can do that!" She enjoyed spending time with her grand daughter Amanda and her grandson Jeffrey. Lynda spent a lot of time helping out with Little League and Babe Ruth baseball. She loved to watch The Astros anytime they were on TV. She will be deeply missed by those who loved her and knew her.

The family will receive visitors from 6:-8 p.m Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at the funeral home. The funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 11, 2012 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home with Rev. Terrel Alridge officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City.

Pallbearers will be Dave Coker, Allen Thornton, David Thornton, David McIntosh, Joey Baros, Jason Sanders, and Dean Libby.

Hudson W. Castleton, 62, of LaFayette, Louisiana died suddenly in New Orleans on April 14. He was a member of the Methodist Church and was an engineer for Ammoco Productions, Co. Survivors include: wife, Beatrice of LaFayette; sons: John and Charles; daughter, Ellen; grandson, Scott Hudson; brother, John Vallie of Red Oak, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. April 18 at the First Methodist Church with Rev. Merle Waters officiating. Interment will be at the Cedarvale Cemetery. Funeral Services Are Held Friday For J. R. Castleton

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon for John R. Castleton, 66, who died Thursday morning. The Rev. Marvin Vance conducted the services at the Walker-Matchett Funeral Home and burial was in the Cedarvale Cemetery.

Survivors are his wife: two sons, Hudson of Corpus Christi and Vallie, U. S. Navy, who is believed a Japanese captive in the Far East; three sisters, Mrs. J. W. Ezell of Austin, Mrs. L. F. Dial of McGee, Arkansas, and Mrs. J. B. McKibbon.

Death of Church Charter Member Leaves 3 Surviving

Mrs. Imogene W. Castleton, who had been a resident of Bay City since 1903, died at the age of 96 this Saturday, at Matagorda General Hospital. She was one of the original members of the First United Methodist Church, which was built in 1904 at the present location. According to reports there are now only three remaining original members left in Bay City.

Mrs. Castleton was very active in church work and attended services regularly until recently when her health would not permit it. She was a member of the E.S. Rugeley Chapter U.D.C., the Pricialla Club and the Order of the Eastern Star.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 AM at the First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Merle Waters officiating. Interment will be at the Cedarvale Cemetery.

Mrs. Omogene W. Castleton, 96, a resident of Bay City since 1903, died March 31 at the Matagorda General Hospital.

Survivors include: sons, John Vallie Castleton of Red Oak, Iowa and Hudson Castleton of Lafayette, LA; sister, Mrs. R. E. Fried of Dallas; grandchildren, John, Charles, and Ellen Castleton; great grandson, Scott Hudson Castleton.

Floyd G. Chenault Dies Here Today

Mr. Floyd G. Chenault, 53, died at his home at 2704 Seventh St. this morning at 8 o’clock following an illness of long duration.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ola Mae Chenault; two daughters, Mrs. B. G. Wiginton of Bay City and Mrs. Earl Stallings of Bellville, Ill.; one son, Lewis W. Chenault of Victoria and one sister, Mrs. W. M. Becker of San Antonio. One brother, J. P. Chenault, Graham, also survives.

Funeral services will be held at the Calvary Baptist Church Thursday afternoon at 3 o’clock with the Reverends Bill Hughes and Kirk Richardson officiating.

Interment will be in Cedarvale with Taylor Bros. Funeral home in charge.

Willie McLendon Clark, 68, of Port Lavaca died January 6th at the Port Lavaca Hospital. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Port Lavaca. Survivors include husband, A. L. Aubrey Lee “Mutt” Clark

Funeral services for Aubrey Lee “Mutt” Clark, 86, of Port Lavaca will be held 11 a. m. Wednesday at the Colonial Funeral Home chapel in Port Lavaca with the Rev. David Bush officiating. Burial will follow 2 p. m. at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City.

Mr. Clark was born Feb. 14, 1905, to Elijah Jefferson and Mayola Hardin Clark in Beasley and died Oct. 28, 1991, at a local nursing home.

He was a former resident of Bay City who was retired from rice farming and ranching. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Port Lavaca.

Survivors include his wife, Genevieve B. Clark of Port Lavaca; two daughters, Billie Joe Clark Jennings of Port Lavaca and Barbara Lee Clark McCarn of Elkhart, Ind.; three stepsons, Michel Ezzell of Austin, Benny Ezzell of Point Comfort and Thomas Ezzell of Port Lavaca; two brothers, Floyd Clark of Corpus Christi and Noel Clark of Edna; and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, four brothers and his first wife, Willie Mae McLendon Clark, who died in 1975.

Siburn Jefferson Clark, Jr.

BAY CITY - Siburn Jefferson "Jeff" Clark Jr., 72, of Bay City, died Thursday, Feb. 27, 2003.

He was born July 18, 1930, in Corpus Christi, to the late Siburn Jefferson Sr. and Gussie Lee McLendon Clark. He was a retired rice farmer and a member of First Christian Church of Bay City. He was a member of the American Legion in Ganado and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean era.

Survivors: daughter, Tere Shipman of Friendswood; sons, Robbie Clark and Chuck Clark, both of Friendswood; brother, Gerald "Jerry" McLendon Clark of Edna; and two grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: son, "Buster" Siburn J. Clark III; and parents.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at First Christian Church in Bay City.

Burial will be at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City.

Services for Gussie Lee Clark, 78, of Edna are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at Edna Presbyterian Church.

The Rev. Lloyd Watson will officiate.

Clark died July 7 at a Victoria hospital.

She is survived by her sons Silburn Jefferson Clark Jr. and Gerald Clark of Edna; her brother Posey Augustus McLendon, Jr. of Bay City; and by seven grandchildren.

A member of the First Christian Church of Ganado, Clark was a member of the Edna Presbyterian Night Circle and the Eleanor Brackenridge Literary Club. She belonged to the Texana Museum and Historical Society, and was a member of the DAR, the Colonial Dames and an honorary member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas.

Following graveside services at 4 p.m., burial is scheduled to take place at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City.

Pallbearers are to be G. A. Jennings, Bob McCarn, Troy Curlee, Burt Binderwald, J. Fisher Smith and Harvey Henderson.

Arrangements are with the Slavik Funeral Home in Edna.

Clement, Mrs. Vera Moore, age 87, passed away in her home on January 21. She had been a resident of Bay City for the past 55 years. She is survived by daughters, Mrs. Florence Morgan of Greeley, Colo., Mrs. Margaret Barrett of Bay City; Mrs. June Huffman of Houston; and Mrs. Vera Helen Martin of Aransas Pass.
