Leroy Wesley Hairell

Leroy Wesley Hairell, 57, of Bay City died August 24, 2004 at his residence. He was born October 17, 1946 in Hallettsville, Texas to the late Elmer Jack and Agnes Frances Zatopek Hairell.

Leroy was a resident of Bay City since 1968 and was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church. He was a member of Knights of Columbus, Bay City Council 3070, and a past member of the Jaycees.

Leroy was a dedicated employee of Sisk Hardware for 20 years, and then was employed with the Matagorda County Courthouse until he became ill.

On November 27, 1971 he married Susan Marie Roller.

Survivors include: his wife, Susan Marie Hairell of Bay City; sons, Wesley L. Hairell, an 18 wheeler truck driver one of Leroy's "loves" of Bay City, and Bryan C. Hairell serving in the US Air Force and stationed in San Antonio, Texas; two sisters, Norma Lee Shumbera and Rose Hairell both of Weimar, Texas; two brothers, Glenn Hairell of Weimar and William Hairell of Yoakum; eight nephews; ten nieces; and numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Charlie Ray and Elmer Lee Hairell.

Rosary will be 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home, and the Funeral mass will be 10 a.m. Thursday, August 26, 2004, at Holy Cross Catholic Church with the Rev. Casey Jarzombek officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City.

Pallbearers will be Clarence Fenner, Johnny Popek, Bobby Rodriguez, Ron Roller, Marvin Littlefield, Glenn Hairell and Matthew Hairell.

Memorials may be made to the Hospice Support Group, Inc, 1102 N. Mechanic, El Campo, TX 77437.

Arrangements are with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home.

Funeral Services For William M. F. Hale Are Held Here Friday

Funeral services for William Marion Francis Hale, 72, of Markham were held Friday at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home with the Rev. R. E. Black and the Rev. I N. Snow officiating and burial in Cedarvale Cemetery.

Mr. Hale was a retired water boss of the Gulf Coast Water Company and had been a resident of Markham for 40 years.

Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Ida Hale of Markham; three daughters, Mrs. Ed Midgett of San Antonio, Mrs. Stanley Alford of Pasadena, Calif., Mrs. George Cronin of Houston; four sons, A. E. and Conger Hale of Bay City, I. B. Hale of Independence, Mo., and Earl Hale of New Orleans, La.

Funeral Rites Held Saturday Morning For E. G. Hamel, 56

Funeral rites for Colonel Edward G. Hamel, 56, of Bay City, were held from Holy Cross Catholic Church Saturday morning, with Father C. J. Martin officiating. Burial was in Cedarvale Cemetery.

Rosary was held Friday night from the chapel at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home.

A native of Concord, New Hampshire, Mr. Hamel passed away Thursday

Mr. Hamel was a member of the 197th New Hampshire National Guard unit in y at Matagorda General Hospital. 1940 and, during World War II, he served with the Ninth Air Force in Egypt, England, and France.

Discharged from the service in 1947, Colonel Hamel lived in Bay City for six years prior to his death. He was the owner here of the Hamel Electric Shop.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Buddy Sterling of Bay City; two sisters, Mrs. Harry Herzig of Colrain, Massachusetts, and Mrs. Ross Gourley of Amherst, Massachusetts; one brother, Paul Hamel of Concord, New Hampshire; two grandchildren.

Eunice B. Hamel

Eunice B. Hamel, 75, a resident of Bay City passed away Sunday, October 9. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and was a Past Worthy Matron. She owned the Orchid Shoppe on the square. Survivors include: daughter, Mrs. Dena Sterling of Bay City; grandchildren, Pete Sterling of Orange and Mary Sterling Hughes of Alvin; 4 great grandchildren; brothers, E. E. Bond of Bay City and Lloyd Bond of Houston; sister Annie Laura McMillan of Midland. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 11, at 2:30 p. m. at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. James Thompson officiating. Interment will be at the Cedarvale Cemetery. Pallbearers for the service will be: Charles Ziegenhals, Woodie Bond, Tommy Farthing, Dr. Russell Matthes, Ted Gallager and C. E. Fathing. Give to Shrine Crippled Children's Hospital in lieu of flowers. Honorary pallbearers are:  Fritz Landrum, Nini Landrum, Burton LeTulle, and Louie LeTulle. Services under the direction of Dick R. Elkins, Bay City Funeral Home.

Adonna Josephine Brown Harrison

Funeral services for Adonna Josephine Brown Harrison, 83, of Bishop, Texas, will be held at 2 p. m. Saturday at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. William Haskell officiating. Burial will be in Cedarvale Cemetery.

Mrs. Harrison was born Jan. 14, 1904, in Clareville, Texas to Robert Dee Mathis and Mary Addaline Frost Brown and died July 9, 1987, at Spohn-Clayberg Hospital Kingsville.

A resident of Bishop for 11 years, she formerly resided in Houston. She was a member of the Methodist church.

Survivors include four daughters, Doris Herrmann of Beeville, Gwen Morris and Nan Woods, both of Bay City, and Ann Bashaw of Bishop; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers include Harold Herrmann Jr., Byron Ray Dugat, Rocky Bashaw, Clint Woods, Garland D. Harrison and Patrick Jewell.

Arrangements are with Taylor Brothers Funeral Home, Bay City.

Paul Hatchett, 66, of Bay City died March 2, 2002 at his residence. He was born October 28, 1935 in Bay City to the late George Alton and Minnie Cain Hatchett. Paul was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and a former member of the Bay City Lions Club. He retired in 1995 as Matagorda Co. District Clerk, with 24 years of service.

Survivors include: wife of 45 years, Mary Douget Hatchett of Bay City; daughter and son-in-law, Kacey and James Hebel of Austin; son and daughter-in-law, Troy and Mary Frances Hatchett of Bay City; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Cynthia and Jim Knost of Vidor, Texas and Cookie and Joe Gay of Fort Worth; one grandchild, Anna Victoria Hatchett of Bay City.

Rosary was held at 5 p.m. Sunday, March 3, 2002, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home and the Funeral Mass was 11 a.m. Monday at Holy Cross Catholic Church with the Rev. Casey Jarzombek officiating. Interment followed at Cedarvale Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Taylor Steves, Raymond Balusek, Mike Brodsguard, Russell Koliba, Maurice Ashcraft, James Mitchell, Thomas Pivonka and Bill Reader. Honorary pallbearers were Suzanne Kucera, Michelle Brodsguard, Peggy Dodd, Becky Denn and Diane Schemenauer.

Funeral Services For Mrs. Floyd C. Head Held Here Sunday

Funeral services were held Sunday from the First Methodist Church in Bay City for Mrs. Floyd C. Head, 68, who passed away here Friday.

Officiating was the Rev. W. W. Conerly. Interment was in Cedarvale Cemetery with Taylor Brothers Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Head’s survivors include her husband; one daughter, Mrs. Mary Lou Reddoch of Sweeny; five sons, Olin C. of West Columbia, E. L., Johnny W., Woodrow W. and Bert L., all of Bay City.

Woodrow Wilson “Woody” Head

November 7, 1916 – January 8, 1999

 

Funeral services for Woodrow Wilson “Woody” Head, 82, of Bay City, were held at 2:00 PM Monday, January 11, 1999, in Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Michael Toland and Bro. Joe Wrape officiating. Interment was at Cedarvale Cemetery.

 

Mr. Head died January 8, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Houston, Texas. He was born November 7, 1916, in Van Vleck, Texas to the late Albert Jefferson and Floyd Cole McGlaun Head. He was a member of the Methodist Church, a retired Police Officer for the City of Bay City with 36 years of service, a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army, a life member of the American Legion Post No. 11 for 50 years, and a long time resident of Bay City.

 

Mr. Head is survived by his daughter, Lana Sue Head of Bay City; sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Margaret Head of Sargent, and Danny and Suzanne Head of Josephine, Texas; brother and sister-in-law, Bert and Aunnine Head of Bay City; great granddaughter, Renee J. Head of Josephine; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by: sisters, Vera Osborne and Mary Lou Reddoch and brothers, Olen, Ewell, and Johnny Head.

 

Pallbearers were Dudley Coe, Jerry Moore, Al Lynch, Jim Reddoch, and Wayne and Ralph Head. Honorary pallbearers were Barney Mason, Lloyd Barr, Rex Quinn, and Harold Meyers. Arrangements are with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home.

Claude E. “Pete” Heckendorn, Jr.

Heckendorn, Claude E. “Pete” Jr., age 55, passed away suddenly in his home on November 3. A long-time resident of Bay City, Mr. Heckendorn is survived by his widow, Mrs. Alene Heckendorn, Bay City; his mother, Mrs. Liela Heckendorn of LaPorte; a son Kent and daughter, Barbara, both of Bay City. Also, one sister, Mrs. Jewel Quested of LaPorte and one brother, Walter H. of Dickinson. Services will be held Friday, November 5, at 3:00 p. m. in the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Wayland Elmore officiating. Interment will be in Cedarvale Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Frank Hurley, Melvin Blum, Brooksie Smith, Harold Lukefahr, Raleigh Huebner and W. A. Thompson. Honorary pallbearers will be the employees of Skelly Oil Company. Taylor Brothers Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Alene Jackson Heckendorn

Alene Jackson Heckendorn, 84, of Bay City, Texas passed away July 18, 2003 after a battle with cancer. She was born July 3, 1919 in Sarita, Texas to Charles L. and Annie E. Jackson.

Alene graduated from Bay City High School in 1935 and then attended Westmoreland College in San Antonio and Texas A & I in Kingsville. She married Pete Heckendorn in December 1938. She was a charter member of the Bay City Junior Service League and was active in other organizations over the years such as Bay City Festival Arts Association, United Methodist Women, Flower Gardeners Garden Club, Library volunteers, Bay City Book Review Club, Fellowship Sunday School Class at First United Methodist Church, and the local V.F.W. Auxiliary.

Survivors include: daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Daniel Brice of Victoria; son and daughter-in-law, Kent and Anne Heckendorn of Prairieville, Louisiana; five grandchildren, Kimberly Brice of College Station, Michael Brice of Victoria and Sarah, Matthew and David Heckendorn all of Prairieville, Louisiana.

She was preceded in death by her husband C. E. "Pete" Heckendorn; infant son, Charles; sisters, Catherine McAlpine and Elizabeth Turcotte; and brother, Louis Anderson.

Funeral Service was held 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, 2003, at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Pauline Harvey officiating. Interment followed at Cedarvale Cemetery.

Pallbearers were John McAlpine, Michael Brice, Matthew Heckendorn, David Heckendorn, Steven Reis, and W. A. “Bill” Thompson.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Bay City, The Bay City Public Library, or the donor’s choice.

The family would like to acknowledge and thank Dr. Barry Liberoni, Dr. Lopez-Roman, staff and residents of The Legacy, Hospice of El Campo, staff at First United Methodist Church, care-givers Charita Preston, Melba Edison, Dorothy Allen and Jerline Allen, and her many friends and family who visited and sent flowers, cards, prayers and thoughts.
