Edward E. “Poochie” Hudson Sr.

Funeral services for Edward E. “Poochie” Hudson Sr., 74, of Bay City, are scheduled for 11 a. m. Friday, Nov. 11, 1994, at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church with the Rev. Nick Novak officiating. Burial will follow in Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City.

The family will greet friends and relatives from 7 to 9 p. m. Thursday, Nov. 10, 1994, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home of Bay City.

Mr. Hudson was born Aug. 2, 1920, in Gulf to Otto E. and Carrie Hillary Hudson and died Nov. 9, 1994, in St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital in Houston.

He was a lifelong resident of Matagorda County and a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church. He served in the U. S. Navy Submarine Service on the submarine U. S. S. Thornback in the South Pacific during World War II. He was a past director of the Rice Council of America, Production Credit Corporation, the Bay City Country Club, Bay City Rice Dryers Inc., past director and past president of the Matagorda County Rice Farmers Co-op, was a three time Golf Club Champion at the Bay City Country Club and was a former Rice Farmer of the Year.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Marion C. Hudson of Bay City; a daughter, Carrilee “Cara” Jelensperger, formerly of Bay City; a son, E. E. “Bubba” Hudson Jr. of Houston; two brothers, Robert L. “Bobby” Hudson of Scotland and James W. “Cubby” Hudson of Victoria; three grandchildren and their spouses, Alain and Christina Harvey, Wendy and Jon Peterson and Jamie Hudson and two great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Peterson and Conor Harvey.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Doris Simpson and Tedo Coleman.

Pallbearers are Alain Harvey, Earl Dibbern, James Mullen, Charles Ziegenhals, Ken Culbreth and Barney Mason.

Contributions may be made to the Texas Heart Institute.

Marion Clyde Hudson

Marion Clyde DeRoch Hudson, 90, passed away on January 7, 2013 in Bay City, Texas. She was born September 21, 1922 in El Campo Texas and was the oldest of four daughters born to Marguerite and Clyde DeRoch. In 1940 she married her childhood sweetheart Edward “Poochie” Hudson who preceded her in death in 1994 after 54 happy years of marriage. She was a devoted wife, special mother, adoring grandmother, delighted great grandmother, aunt, sister and faithful friend.

Marion loved nature and the great outdoors, sewing, quilting, and her beloved church St. Marks Episcopal. She was a faithful member for over 72 years. Marion was sentimental and put high value on her special times with family members and loved ones. People and creating memories were important to her and those that knew and loved her knew that they were a priority. She had very fond memories of her traveling adventures including a trip to England, Colorado and fun getaways with her three grandchildren at various stages of their lives. Marion was great at telling stories and passing along family memories that will long be treasured. She will be greatly missed but we know that she is now rejoicing in heaven.

She is survived by: daughter, Carrilee Hudson Jelensperger of Knoxville, Tennessee; son, Edward "Bubba" Hudson and wife Betsy of Houston, Texas; grandson, Alain Harvey and wife Penny of Houston, Texas; granddaughter-in-love, Christina Acosta Harvey of Houston, Texas; granddaughters, Wendy Hudson Petersen and husband Jon of Austin, Texas and Jamie Hudson Wright and husband Brad of Sugar Land, Texas; nine great-grandchildren, Conor Harvey of San Antonio, Gareth Harvey of Houston, Elizabeth Petersen, Hudson Petersen, SaraGrace Petersen and Wesley Petersen of Austin, and Avery Wright, William Wright and Walker Wright of Sugar Land.

Visitation will be from 6 until 7:30 p.m. Thursday, January 10, 2013 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, January 11, 2013 at St. Marks Episcopal Church 2200 Avenue E with the Rev. Brad Sullivan officiating. Lunch reception to follow in Parish Hall. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be Dr. Alain Harvey; Jon Petersen, Rev. Bradley Wright, Louis Ziegenhals, Dr. Kenneth Culbreth, Ret. Commander U.S. Navy Robert Hudson, Robert “Bob” Savana.

Jewell Raye Payne Huey

Jewell Raye Huey, 71, of Bay City has passed on into heaven to be with the Lord on December 10, 2002. She was born September 23, 1931 in Ardmore, OK to the late Archie and Mary Ethel Stallcup Payne.

She was a resident of Bay City since 1965 and was retired from Dow after 18 years of loyal service. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Bay City and was instrumental in helping to form the Singles Sunday School Department in September of 1978.

She was also instrumental in getting the Bay City Courthouse, Bay City Post Office and the First Baptist Church to be wheelchair accessible.

Her last gift to humanity was donation of her spinal cord to the Baylor University Research Program in Houston, TX.

She is survived by: daughters and son-in-law: Mary Jo and Bill Robbins of Houston and Nancy Lou and Fred Kanter of Brazoria; son and daughter-law, Jimmy and Sylvia Huey of Jos, Nigeria; sisters and brothers-in-law, Fannie Mae and Gary Chamblin of Ventura, CA and Patsy and Leon Cates of Navasota, TX; and by 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; also by her special friend and companion, Richard “Dick” Thompson of Bay City and his children, Carol and Rick; by the father of her children, Ralph Huey of Cuero, TX and by numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 12 noon on Saturday, December 14, 2002 at the First Baptist Church of Bay City with Dr. Michael Zimmerman, Dr. W.D. Baker, And Glenn Walker officiating.

Interment followed at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City. The family received Visitors from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday December 13, 2002 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Roy Sanders, Neil "Luke" Lucas, Larry George, Toby Coones, Harold Thompson, Pat Matthes and Dan Hayes.

Honorary pallbearers were members of the Singles Sunday School Dept. of First Baptist Church.

June 30, 1938 - June 9, 2015

Katherine Marie Hurd left her earthly home into her Heavenly home on June 9, 2015.

She was born June 30, 1938 in Blytheville, Arkansas, to Woodie and Margaret Sanders Sims.

Katherine is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clifford Hurd; a sister; and three grandchildren.

She is survived by daughter, Teresa Hollister and husband Lane of Bay City; sons, Dennis Hurd of Huntsville, and Mark Hurd and wife La Juana of Hutto, Texas; grandchildren, Joshua Hurd, Graham Hollister, Lindsey Hollister, Jared Hurd and Jacob Hurd; niece, Pam Burgard, Velinda Hurd; nephew, Tom Baker and wife Laurie and their children, Tommy and Aubree; and many other nieces, nephews, family members and friends.

Kathy was the most loving and kind hearted mother and friend anyone could have. Her strength and positive attitude, no matter how tough life got, amazed us all. She loved bowling, playing cards, bingo and playing the lotto. She loved talking on the phone for hours with family and friends, catching up on what was happening in their lives, and making sure they were doing okay. Her most favorite time in her life though, was time spent with family and friends. That is what brought her the most joy. Our lives will be forever changed by having her in it.

The family received visitors, Thursday, June 11, 2015, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Friday, June 12, 2015, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City, Texas, with John DeWitt officiating.

Interment followed at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City, Texas.

Pallbearers were Dennis Hurd, Mark Hurd, Jacob Hurd, Lane Hollister, Chance Leissner and Jack Hollister.

BAY CITY [Matagorda County, Texas] - Thomas Carl Johnson, 67, of Bay City, died Friday, Jan. 9, 2004.

He was born May 8, 1936, in St. Paul, Minn., to the late Emery and Judith Dahlby Johnson. He was a systems analyst for IBM at NASA and taught at Tidehaven High School.

Survivors: wife, Vera Sue Johnson; daughters, Darlene Krug of West Columbia and Donna Cox of Edmond, Okla.; sons, Thomas Carl Johnson Jr., Timothy Eugene Johnson of Lufkin, and Daniel Stephen Johnson of Nacogdoches; sister, Audrey Reddy of California; brother, Jim Johnson of California; four grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church of Bay City, Dr. Michael Zimmerman officiating.

Dieter Bruno Krix

Dieter Bruno Krix, 56, of Bay City, died November 6, 2004 at Citizen Medical Center in Victoria.

He was born February 12, 1948 in Teterof, East Prussia, to the late Bruno and Frieda Skyschus Krix.

After his family immigrated to the United States, they settled in Cheyenne, Wyoming.

Dieter attended the University of Wyoming and majored in business.

Dieter was with Safeway Stores, Inc. for 23 years, serving Bay City for nine of those years.

He was also with Stanley’s Grocery for 10 years, following Safeway.

Later in his career, Dieter moved into the field of merchandising specialist, which required extensive travel.

In this capacity, he worked for Serv-A-Lite and A.M.S.

Dieter was a member of several organizations, including the Optimist Club, the Bay City Community Education Advisory Council and the Lions Club.

He was active in the Lions Club for over 20 years.

As a member of the First Baptist Church of Bay City, he ministered as a Sunday school teacher and also was involved in Promise Keepers.

Dieter was an avid fisherman and trivia buff.

He also enjoyed reading, collecting comic strips, listening to music and frequent visits to a smorgasbord.

Dieter is survived by: his wife, Linda Buchanan Krix of Bay City; son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Rebecca Krix of Round Rock, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Heidi and Ted Brown of Austin, Texas; step-mother, Ellie Krix of Cheyenne, Wyoming; sister, Ingrid Phillips of Cheyenne, Wyoming; brothers, Werner Krix of Mesa, Arizona, and Gunther Krix of Cheyenne, Wyoming; and two grandchildren, Megan and Desiree Krix, both of Round Rock, Texas.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 10, 2004, at the First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Mike Zimmerman officiating.

Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery.

August Lewis "Gus" Leissner, 49, of Markham, passed away Monday, February 6, 2012 at Memorial Herman Hospital in Houston. Gus was born in Corpus Christi, Texas on November 23, 1962 to parents Charles Lewis and Iona Mae Pearse Leissner. He grew up in Gonzales, Texas and was a graduate of Bay City High School. He was a loving husband and father, an avid outdoorsman, and never met a stranger.

His wife, Linda Leissner of Markham, a son Ryan Leissner of Markham, and a daughter, Lindsay Leissner of Belton, survive him. He is also survived by two brothers, Jeff Leissner of Houston and Stan Leissner of Bay City as well as by his best friends, Bradley Sitz, Mark Ploeger, and the Sitz Family. His parents preceded him in death.

A time of visitation will be held on Saturday, February 11 from 9:00 AM until 12 Noon at the Bay City Funeral Home. A Graveside Service will be held at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City at 1:00 PM. Saturday. Pallbearers will be Bradley Sitz, Mark Ploeger, Shawn Burton, Chad Hammons, Aaron Villereal, Stephen Burton, Dayton Leissner, and John Romine. Friends are invited to join the family at a reception at the Lions Club Tea Room immediately following the graveside service.

Mary Kathleen Lewis, 91, formerly of Bay City passed away April 9, 2020. She was born September 12, 1928 in Mt. Calm, Texas to the late Willis C. Raburn and Vera Estelle Ramage Raburn.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Guy Delmer Lewis and by her five sisters and four brothers.

She is survived by four sons Guy Don Lewis, Roy Dale Lewis, James Price Lewis (Luann), Larry Gene Lewis (Marshele); grandchildren Joni Lewis Snow, Karen Kennedy (Marcus), Kara Baker (David), Jameson Lewis (Lacie), Travis Lewis (Sarah) and Richard Lewis and 13 great grandchildren.

Linda Ann Libby, 59, of Bay City died July 4, 2000 at Gulf Coast Medical Center Hospital in Wharton. She was born May 13, 1941 in Electra, Texas to the late Robert Vancleeve and late Josephine Mullins Wallace. Mrs. Libby was a member of St. Paul's Methodist Church and a resident of Bay City the past 30 years.

Survivors include: two daughters and sons-in-law Christy and Larry LeMay of Glenrose, Texas and Jalisa and Farley Zboril of Louise, Texas; two sons and daughters-in-law Darren Scott and Melody Libby of Watts, Okla and David Dean and Theresa Libby of Red Lion, Pa; five grandchildren Kira Teets of Louise, Matthew Turrin of Glenrose, Amanda Zboril of Louise, Marianne Elise Libby of Watts, Okla., and Dena Faye Libby of West Columbia, Texas.

Quintin Littleton

Quintin Littleton was born to Bettye J. Pollard and Dallas Pollard on August 8, 1961 in Bay City, Texas.

His public education was completed and enjoyed in Bay City where he graduated in 1980. He began his career in the oilfield business working for Gray Tool Company, Schlumberger, and Hughes Tool. He also served as a security guard for several companies in the Houston area. He later received his aviation licenses from Rice Aviation School in 1990, where he began and ended his career with Continental Airlines. He also received numerous certificates, letters of recommendation and awards while exceeding the expectations of management.

He married Candy Ordonez and to this union one child was born, Leticia Marie Littleton. Earlier in life he had one son, Jermaine Deloach.

He confessed Christ and was baptized at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church at an early age under the leadership of the late Reverend L.C. Cunningham, Sr. and he was a devout believer in Christ.

On March 29, 2004 his name was called and he answered.

He was preceded in death by his mother Bettye J. Pollard and his father Dallas Pollard. He was blessed with a loving step-mother Leona Porter and the best step-father Bobby Joe Flagg.

He leaves to cherish his memory a loving wife Candy Littleton; two children, Leticia Littleton and Jermaine Deloach; two grandchildren, Devon and Rashad; one sister, Anna Pettus and husband Billy of Bay City; three brothers, Robert L. Littleton III of Houston, Desi D. Littleton and wife Pamela of Bay City, Jeff Pollard of Houston; his only godson Reggie Matthews, Jr.; brother-in-laws, Tino, Pete, Paz, Louis (deceased) and Mathew Ordonez; sister-in-laws, Veronica, Janie, Mary, Blasa, Helen (deceased) and Nica Ordonez; two aunts, Claudia Sauceda of Bay City and Salita Sauceda of Houston, Texas; host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, an abundance of relatives, special friends, and MOB's (The Men on Bikes).

Service will be held 12 p.m. Saturday, April 3, 2004 at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church 1208 Avenue C in Bay City with the Rev. L.C. Cunningham, Jr. officiating.

Harold Robert Lusby, 64, of Bay City, was born September 20, 1942 in Hamilton, OH to John & Georgia Allen. He was adopted by James Samuel Lusby and Olive Emmett Gayle Lusby and raised in New Liberty and Owenton, KY. He became a locomotive train engineer and was a resident of Bay City since 1990 and retired from the Celanese Plant in Bay City, TX.

He is survived by his wife of 15 years: Karon Lusby; 2 daughters: Tammy Biesel of St. Bernard, OH and Alice Jo Kelly of New Liberty, KY; by 5 grandchildren: Mike Moore, Nicole Moore, Emmitt Biesel, Kaelin Biesel and Kyle McMurray, all of St. Bernard, OH; and by 5 great-grandchildren.

At the age of 49, Robert was reunited with his sister: Mary Francis Deering of Margale, FL; a brother: Merritt Scott Allen of Peducah, KY; his aunts and uncles: Eula J. & Roy Freeman, Nellie & Charlie Bugg; and numerous cousins, including Mildred Pugh, all of Harrodsburg, KY. He was preceded in death by his parents, his adoptive parents, and by a brother: Bobby Allen.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, September 8, 2007, at the Abundant Life Fellowship Church of Bay City, TX with Rev. Greg McMullin officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City. Pallbearers will be Steve Malone, Fuzzy Talasek, Jim Breazeale, Avery Campbell, Tino Torres, Sr., Watts Vaughan, and Michael Zavala.

Rodessa Ann "Ro" Marceaux
(September 5, 1956 - November 16, 2007)

Rodessa Ann “Ro” Marceaux passed away on Friday, November 16, 2007, with her loving family by her side. Ro was born on September 5, 1956, to Walter and Wanda Hebert LeBouef. Ro has three siblings, Darwin LeBouef, Pam Colella, and Annette Ruiz. Ro was married to Keith Ray Marceaux on September 7, 1974, and they shared a love that began in high school and blossomed into 33 years of love, devotion, and happiness. Together they raised three loving sons, Joshua Brooks Marceaux, Chad Anthony Marceaux, and Paul David Marceaux. Ro carried herself with a sense of grace and humility extending compassion to everyone in her life. She inspired all with her ability to bestow infinite love with a sincere passion for life’s treasures. Her unconditional love for her husband and children existed with every breath she took, every beat of her heart, and every moment of her life.

Ro was not only a loving wife and mother, but also a respected businesswoman. Together, Ro and Keith owned “The Health Food Cottage”. Ro nurtured and grew the business from a small shop on Avenue G to a full service Health Food establishment on Highway 35. The store has a beautiful decorum, providing a peaceful and harmonious environment, which exudes her very essence. Ro’s charming smile, gracious and helpful persona embodied her entire staff.

Her family would like to extend a special thanks to the members of Holy Cross Catholic Church, the members of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, and all others that offered prayers and support to her and her family during their time of grief.

The Rosary will be held at 8:00 PM Sunday, November 18, 2007 at Holy Cross Catholic Church. The Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, November 19, 2007 at Holy Cross Catholic Church with Reverend Susan Kennard and Father Casey Jarzombek officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale North Cemetery. Pallbearers include Sandy Marceaux, Shawn Marceaux, Joshua Marceaux, Chad Marceaux, Paul Marceaux, and Darwin LeBouef.

Ashley loved music, playing with her children and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her husband, Justin Matthews; children, Ty Cody Downs and Lyra Jae Matthews; 10 brothers and sisters; parents, Ezekial Martinez and Lisa Ziegelbauer; paternal grandmother, Antonia Guettierrez and paternal grandfather, Martin Guettierrez; maternal grandparent, Julie “NoNo” Vandermark; and numerous nieces, nephews and other loving family members.

A funeral service was held at 10 a.m., Saturday, October 10, 2015, at the Northside Chapel Church of God in Bay City, Texas.

Jane Elizabeth Williamson McCormick
Oct. 7, 1942 – May 3, 2013

Jane “Janie” Williamson McCormick left her earthly residence on Friday, May 3, 2013, and is rejoicing in heaven with her loved ones who preceded her. Janie was born on October 7, 1942 in Washington DC to Grady Williamson and Jane Glosson Williamson.  

She was blessed to be in two loving households - one of her parents and one of her aunt and uncle, Raleigh and Ruby Sanborn.

Janie grew up in Bay City where she was an active member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church. She attended Bay City schools and graduated from the Hockaday School in Dallas. She attended Sweet Briar College in Virginia for two years and graduated from the University of Texas with a degree in Education. She was a member of Chi Omega sorority.

In her youth, Janie spent her summers at Camp Waldemar in Hunt, Texas. She was an avid reader, loved the theater, and enjoyed bridge, exercise, and travel. She was an active member and past president of Beta Sigma Phi.

Janie taught at Matagorda Elementary School and retired from the Department of Human Services where she was a caseworker for the elderly.

Janie was preceded in death by her parents and her aunt and uncle.

She is survived by her loving husband of 30 years, Mike McCormick; brother, Raleigh Williamson and his wife Connie; stepchildren, Michele Ulmer and Jon McCormick; niece and nephew, Lauren Price and Chad Williamson; four step grandchildren, and two great-nephews and many cousins and devoted friends.

Janie’s family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to her caregivers and Houston Hospice.

Visitation will be from 6 – 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home, 2313 Avenue I, Bay City, Texas.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 2200 Avenue E, Bay City, TX, at 3 p.m. on Thursday, May 9th with a reception following.

Nathan Neil McDonald, Jr.

Nathan Neil McDonald, Jr., 15, of Bay City passed away Saturday July 15, 2000 in Bay City. He was born December 31, 1984 in Wharton, Texas to Nathan N. McDonald, Sr. and Sharyl Katherine Opella McDonald. He was a lifelong resident of Bay City, a member of the First United Methodist Church and a student at John H. Cherry Elementary School.

He is survived by his parents Nathan and Sharyl McDonald; his brother James; maternal grandparents, Ernest & Jeanette Opella; Paternal grandparents J. N. and Barbara McDonald; and great grandmother Ruth McLeod all of Bay City; and by his aunts and uncles Dwayne and Gena Opella of Eglin AFB, Fla; Diane and Randy Morton of Hallettsville, Susan and Scott Maguire of Beeville, Denney McDonald of Nashville, Tenn., Tracey and Keith Davidson of Greenville, Ala., Brandon and Tammie McDonald of Bay City; his cousins, grand-uncles and aunts and a host of other relatives. Neil is also survived by his care givers, teachers, and friends at Cherry Elementary School, and by his community, that gave love and support to him and his family, during his too brief stay here on earth.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 19, 2000 at the First United Methodist Church of Bay City with the Rev. Pauline Harvey, and Rev. Bill Dugger, and the Dr. Fernando Stein, M.D., officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery. Pallbearers are his uncles, Dwayne Opella, Randy Morton, Scott Maguire, Brandon McDonald, Delfin Labay and Robert Opella.

The family has asked that donations be made to the Matagorda County Children's Museum for the "Neil McDonald, Jr. Foundation," 2100 Ave F, Bay City, Texas 77414.
