Funeral services will be held here today at 4 o’clock, from Taylor Bros. Funeral Home, for infant Mark Allen Moore, 5213 Burma Road, Houston, who died Sunday at St. Luke’s Hospital in Houston, a day after his birth.

He is survived by: his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Conard D Moore; two brothers, David and Jeffrey; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Clements of Markham, and Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Moore of Oklahoma. His mother is the former Miss Willa Lee Clements, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. W. J. Clements of Markham.

Gabriel Moreno

Gabriel Moreno
March 18, 1888 – July 22, 1949

Gabriel Moreno, 66, died this morning at 2 o’clock at his home in Bay City. He was 66 years, 4 months, 4 days old at the time of his death.

He is survived by: his wife, Refugia Moreno; two daughters, Misses Linda and Elvira Moreno; and two sons, Jose Angel and Justino Moreno, all of Bay City.

Funeral services will be held at 8:30 AM Saturday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, with the Rev. W. J. Murphy officiating. Interment will be in Cedarvale Cemetery, under the direction of Taylor Brothers Funeral Home.

Annie Morris

Annie Morris
1874 – 1938

Mrs. Annie Morris, age 64 years, passed away at a hospital in Houston this morning after a short illness.

Mrs. Morris is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Lloyd Urban of Bay City, Mrs. C. E. Monroe of New Caney, Texas, Mrs. Bob Briscoe of Angleton, Texas, and Mrs. J. C. Bonham of Houston and one son, L. A. Morris of Houston.

Mrs. Morris will be remembered to the people of Bay City as living here a number of years ago and her husband was in the barbershop business here.

Funeral services will be held in Bay City at 11:00 AM Wednesday. Taylor Bros. is in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Joel Wayne Morrow
(June 20, 1919 - December 10, 2006)

Joel Wayne Morrow, 87 of Bay City went to be with his Lord on Sunday, December 10, 2006. He was born June 20, 1919 in Concrete, TX to James Esker Morrow and Claudia Louise Tate Morrow.

Mr. Morrow was a resident of Bay City for the past 67 years. He was a graduate of Cuero High School and attended Texas A&M University for two years. He came to Bay City to collect a $10 debt, met his future wife, and stayed to raise a family and for the rest of his life. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church and treasurer of the Men’s Class. His businesses in Bay City included tire retailer, gasoline distributor, pecan tree graft specialist and Salvation Army representative. He was also a past president of the Bay City Rotary Club, and represented the club to brother clubs in Harare, Zimbabwe, Africa and to Brescia, Italy. He will be missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Thelma Morrow and a son, Lawrence Wayne Morrow.

He is survived by his son, Joel E. Morrow of Richmond, TX; a daughter, Barbara Kay Nedry of Stafford, TX; his sister Bonnie Parker of Midway, TX; grandchildren: Lydia Ruth Giordano of Richmond, TX, Michael Louis Wayne Morrow of Houston, TX, Russell Wayne Morrow of Pasadena, TX, Deanna Joyce Morrow of Clear Lake, TX and Lara Nicole Nedry of Stafford, TX; and by four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, December 13, 2006 at the First United Methodist Church of Bay City with Rev. Chris Harrison officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City.

Funeral services for Ruth Morrow, 83, of Bay City, are scheduled for 10:00 AM Saturday, January 3, at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Mike Toland officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City.

Ruth Morrow died December 31 at Matagorda General Hospital. She was born December 8, 1914, in Kansas. Mrs. Morrow was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a resident of Bay City for 72 years.

She was the former owner/operator of Charm Beauty Shoppe in Bay City for many years.

Loving survivors are her husband, Joel W. Morrow, of Bay City; daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Barbara Kay and Franklin Nedry of Houston; son and daughter-in-law, Joel E. and Lydia Morrow of Richmond; two brothers, Bruce Dopps of Wichita, Kansas and Milton Bowers, also of Wichita; five grandchildren, Nicole Nedry, Russell Wayne Morrow, Diana Joyce Morrow all of Houston, Lydia Ruth Giordana and Michael Wayne Morrow of Richmond; two great grandchildren, Francesco Day Giordano and Lydia Michela Giordano, both of Richmond; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by: her son, Lawrence Wayne Morrow; sister, Rose Crenshaw; and a brother, Paul Dopps.

Memorials may be made to the Ruth Morrow Memorial Fund Fellowship Class of the First United Methodist Church.

Funeral services for Lawrence “Larry” Wayne Morrow, 44, of Houston, will be held 2:00 PM Friday at First United Methodist Church, Bay City, with the Rev. Harold Harper and the Rev. W. E. Dugger, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Cedarvale Cemetery, Bay City.

Mr. Morrow was born September 15, 1945, in Bay City, to Joel W. and Ruth Dopps Morrow and died April 17, 1990, at Southeast Memorial Hospital, Houston.

A resident of Houston for 15 years, he was a member of Genoa First Baptist Church, Houston.

Survivors include his wife, Cheryl Morrow of Houston; parents, Joel W. and Ruth Morrow of Bay City; a daughter, Deanna Morrow of Houston; a son, Russell Wayne Morrow of Houston; a sister, Barbara Nedry of Houston; and a brother, Joel E. Morrow of Richmond.

Pallbearers include Russell Matthes, M. T. Montague, B. J. Shaw, M. K. Freeman, Joe Rives and Bruce Ziegenhals.

 Charles Ernest Moser, 75, of Wadsworth, died Friday in a Galveston hospital. Surviving are his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Ecabodor of San Diego, Mrs. Louis Schumacher of Corpus Christi, Mrs. I. C. Morris of Refugio; four sons, Ernest Jr. of Los Angeles, Jimmy of the U. S. Navy at San Diego, Fred of Brooklyn, and Rex of Houston.

Mrs. Moser Rites Set Today

 

Mrs. C. E. “Ophelia” Moser passed away at Spohn Hospital in Corpus Christi Friday. She was 88 years old.

 

Services will be at 4:00 PM today from Taylor Brothers Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Charles Faires of the Bethany Christian Church of Corpus Christi officiating. Interment will be in Cedarvale Cemetery.

 

A former resident of Matagorda County, she had lived in Corpus Christi for the past 15 years. She is survived by three daughters; Mrs. Irene Morris of Refugio, Mrs. Dorothy Cox and Mrs. Lois Shoemaker of Corpus Christi; three sons, Rex of Houston, Fred and Ernest of Redwood City, California; two sisters, Mrs. Bess Moser of San Antonio, and Mrs. Irene Duffy of Bay City.

 

Pallbearers will be Glen and Melvin Martin, Jack H. Moser, Val Piper, and Murray Seerden.

Mrs. Dora Murry, age 59 years one month and 13 days, passed away yesterday morning at John Sealy Hospital in Galveston, at 9 o’clock.

Mrs. Murry had been a resident of Collegeport for a number of years.

She is survived by: one son, J. F. of Collegeport, two daughters, Mrs. Jessie Koucher of Danbury and Miss Mamie of Collegeport.

Funeral services will be from Walker-Matchett Funeral Home this afternoon at 2:00 PM, with the Rev. R. E. Black officiating, with burial in Cedarvale Cemetery.

Melba Needham

Melba Louise Needham
July 31, 1943 - January 16, 2016

Melba Louise Needham was born on July 31, 1943, and died on January 16, 2016.

She was preceded in death by parents, Jack Crain and Velma Messer; brother, Dennis Crain; daughter, Theresa (Tessie) Needham; and sister, Vonnie Crain.

Melba is survived by husband of 55 years, Douglas Needham; sons, Stephen and Keith Needham; daughter-in-law, Stephanie Needham; grandchildren, Siara and Dustin Needham; great-grandson, Layne Harper; and brother, Howard Crain.

Loved and respected by many in the Bay City area and beyond, Melba was most recently employed at the South Texas Project, until retirement several years ago.

A memorial service in her honor will occur at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home of Bay City on Saturday, January, 23, 2016, at 10 a.m.

The family welcomes to attend, all who knew and loved Melba.

Daisy Bell Newton

September 8, 1904 – November 25, 1999

 

Funeral services for Daisy Bell Newton, 95, of Bay City, will be at 2:00 PM on Monday, November 29, 1999, at the First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Pauline Harvey officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to Noon Monday.

 

Mrs. Newton died November 25, 1999, at The Legacy in Bay City. She was born September 8, 1904, near Bonham, Texas, to the late Frank and Maggie Gault Hale.

 

She moved at an early age with her parents to Bay City where she spent the rest of her life. Mrs. Newton was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church and the Fellowship Class, and held many offices in the church.

 

She taught in elementary schools in Matagorda County for 45 years; 23 years in Bay City. She was honored as an Outstanding Elementary Teacher of America in 1972, and was a member of Kappa Delta Pi Education Honor Society. She was always interested in her students. She received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from the University of Houston.

 

Mrs. Newton was also active in the community, and served as president of Tenie Holmes School P.T.A., Matagorda Co. Retired Teachers Association, Pilot Club, Chautauqua Club and local AARP. She was a member of the Matagorda Co. Historical Society, the Study Club of Bay City, Business and Professional Women’s Club, Flower Gardeners Club, Book Review Club, and a Charter Member of the Hospital Pink Ladies, with over 4,000 hours of voluntary service. She received the governor’s Certificate of Recognition for Outstanding Older Texan of Matagorda County in 1977.

 

Survivors include:  daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy Cartwright Wagner and Louis Wagner of Seabrook, Texas; grandchildren, Vickie Fletchall and husband Randy of Fairfield, CT, and Steven Wagner of Dallas; great grandchildren, Justin and Kelly Fletchall of Fairfield, CT; sister, Louise Sims of Bay City; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

She was preceded in death by:  her husbands, Ira Cartwright in 1930 and Noble Newton in 1972; by four brothers, Tom, Bland, Rodney and Pete Hale; by two sisters, Ressie Hale Blaylock and Eva Hale Graham.

 

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church.

 

Arrangements are with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Ella V. Nolan, 95, of Bay City, were held at 10:00AM today at Holy Cross Catholic Church, with the Rev. Charles Sonnier officiating. Burial was in Cedarvale Cemetery. A rosary was said at 7:30PM Tuesday, by Rev. Sonnier at Bay City Funeral Home.

 

Mrs. Nolan was born November 4, 1889, and died June 17, 1985, at her residence. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and Holy Cross Altar Society.

 

Survivors include a son, Joseph H. Nolan of San Antonio; seven daughters, Eloise Serafine, Maggie Nolan and Agnew Dunaway, all of Bay City, Clara Billiott of Galveston, Johnnie Mary McPeak of St. Louis, Missouri, Veronica Allen of Hitchcock and Cecilia Reil of Houston; a brother, Marvin Denning of Alice; a sister, Mabel Booth of Beeville; and 17 grandchildren.

 

Pallbearers were her grandsons.

 

Services were under the direction of Dick R. Elkins of Bay City Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Maggie Ella Nolan, 84, of Bay City, will be held 10:00AM Friday at Holy Cross Catholic Church, with the Monsignor James Brunner officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery. A rosary will be said 7:00PM today, at the Bay City Funeral Home Chapel.

 

Mrs. Nolan was born January 20, 1907, to John J. and Ella Denning Nolan in Stockdale, and died February 27, 1991, at her home.

 

She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church.

 

She is survived by: her brother, Joseph H. Nolan of San Antonio; five sisters, Clara Billiott of Galveston, Eloise Serafine of Bay City, Johnnie McPeak of St. Louis, Missouri, Cecelia Reid of Houston and Veronica Allen of Hitchcock; and a number of nieces and nephews.

 

Her nephews will serve as pallbearers.

 

Services are under the direction of Dick R. Elkins of Bay City Funeral Home.
