Funeral Services For Mr. Otto Schulz, 71, Held Here Monday

Funeral services for Otto Schulz, 71, of Bay City were held at the Matchett-Newman Funeral Home Monday afternoon with the Rev. Ernest Deutsch officiating and burial in Cedarvale Cemetery.

Mr. Schulz, who had been a resident of Matagorda County for 20 years, had been ill for several months.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. William Blackburn of Bay City; three sons, Walter and B. F. Schulz of Bay City and B. J. Schulz of Beaumont; two sisters, Mrs. J. J. Rice of Yoakum and Mrs. Emma Lapinsky of Mexia; five brothers, Will Schulz of Hubbard, Charles Schulz of Hillsboro, Fred Schulz of Brownfield, Albert Schulz of Fort Worth, and Christian Schulz of Edge.

Pallbearers were William Tillman, Elmer Fansen, E. E. Eggleston, R. E. Graham, Edgar Schnieder and E. A. Freeman.

Corene Schulz

Corene Schulz, 86, of Kingsville and formerly of Bay City, passed away February 16, 2002 at the Spohn-Kleberg Memorial Hospital in Kingsville. She was born in Texana, Texas on October 1, 1915 to parents Clarence and Luna Dedmon Lindberg.

She is survived by a son, W. Lee Schulz of Kingsville; a daughter and son-in-law, Luna-Anne and Michael Lassiter of Houston; a brother, William "Bill" Lindberg of Edna, and a sister, Melba Passmore of Alvin; grandchildren, Skyler Jay Schulz, Michael Scott Lassiter and Matthew Lee Lassiter and great grandchild, Christian Alexander Schulz.

Funeral Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, at the First Presbyterian Church in Bay City with the Rev. Sam Steele officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church or the Alzheimer Disease Foundation.

James Alton "Munchie" Schurtz

James Alton "Munchie" Schurtz, 68, of Markham, passed away Friday, August 21, 2003 in Bay City, Texas.

He was born January 13, 1935 in Bloomington, Texas to Carl & Elfie Riemenschneider Schurtz.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Georgia Capel Schurtz of Markham, his children; Michael James Schurtz & wife, Kerri of Bay City, Lora Ann Janik & husband, Chris, Angleton, Patrick Wayne Schurtz of Markham; by his sister, Betty Bradley & husband, David, Markham; his brother; Carl Schurtz & wife, Margarite, of Tres Palacios and Robert Schurtz & wife, Mary, of Midfield; and his grandchildren: Rebecca Leigh Janik, Matthew James Janik and James Danell Schurtz.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Carl & Elfie Schurtz, his sister, Elfie May Schurtz, and his brother, Homer Schurtz.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 25, 2003 at the First Baptist Church in Markham, Texas with the Reverend Howard Harper officiating.

Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City, Texas.

James Shaffer Taken In Death Here Wednesday

Mr. James E. Shaffer, age 70, of 1708 Ave D, passed away Wednesday, March 2nd

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Robbie M. Shafer, six daughters, Mrs. A. W. Calloway, Mrs. A. W. Benedict, Mrs. R. L. Titt, Mrs. Don Klingman, Miss Laverne Shaffer of Bay City and Mrs. M. C. Peterson of Houston; three sons, J. W. Shaffer of Houston, L. L. Shaffer of Kilgore and R. E. Shaffer of Bay City and one sister, Mrs. S. A. Redmon.

Funeral services were held from Taylor Bros. Funeral Home this afternoon at 2:30 o’clock with Rev. Ernest Deutsch officiating. Interment was in Cedarvale Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Geo. Wainner, O. R. Hagaman, Jr., L. F. Davis, R. Smith, O. D. Shaffer and Chas. Shaffer.

Stella Mae Shaffer

Graveside services for Stella Mae Shaffer, 91, of New Braunfels were held 10 a. m. today at Cedarvale Cemetery with the Rev. Jim Welch officiating.

Mrs. Shaffer was born Sept. 2, 1900 and she died Aug. 8, 1992 at Kirkwood Manor Nursing Home in New Braunfels.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Bay City and a lifelong Bay Citian. She was a member of many civic organizations including the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion auxiliaries and the Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include four grandsons, Larry Shaffer of San Antonio, Kirk Shaffer of Nashville, Ten., Charles Shaffer Jr. of Palestine and David Shaffer of El Campo; a granddaughter, Linda McGowan of Cibolo and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Orville D. Shaffer and three sons, Lawrence Orville Shaffer, Gordon Lee Shaffer and Charles Edward Shaffer.

Services are under the direction of Dick R. Elkins, Bay City Funeral Home.

Frank Sharp, 69, Rites Set Thursday

Frank Sharp, 69, of Rt. 2, Bay City passed away at Matagorda General Hospital Sunday afternoon.  Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Cedarvale Cemetery, Rev. David Elliott of the Van Vleck Baptist Church officiating.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Clara Sue McNeely of Sweeny and Mrs. Lois Hobson of Bay City; one brother, John Sharp of Jumbo, Okla., and three sisters, Mrs. Lillian Stanley, Miss Jewel Sharp and Mrs. Rody, all of Okmulgee, Okla.

Services are under the direction of Taylor Brothers Funeral Home.

Sharp Services Set For Saturday

Funeral services will be at 2:30 p. m. Saturday for Fred Sharp of Sweeny Route, who died Thursday morning at Matagorda General Hospital. Mr. Sharp was 39.

Services Saturday will be at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home, Bay City, with Rev. Derald Dugger, pastor of the Van Vleck Baptist Church officiating. Internment will be at Cedarvale Cemetery.

He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. S. Sharp of Sweeny and two sisters, Mrs. Clara Sue McNeely of Sweeny and Mrs. Lois Hobson of Bay City, and a son, Steve Allen Sharp of Dodson, Louisiana.

Irene Elizabeth Shelby

Irene Elizabeth Shelby, 95, a 50-year resident of Boling and lifelong resident of the area, passed away on Wednesday, September 10, 2003, in Sweeny, Texas.

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 13, 2003 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home with Brother Skip Holman officiating.

Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery.

She was born on October 12, 1907, in Bay City, Texas, to the late Martin Loose and Fiedelia Goodman Loose. Mrs. Shelby was a Charter Member of The First Baptist Church of Boling.

She is survived by her son, John Henry Shelby Jr. & wife, Sue of Sweeny; grandchildren, Samuel Martin Shelby Jr. & wife, Gail, Penny Marie Shelby Warner & husband, Jim, Francis Elizabeth Shelby, whom she raised following the death of their father, other grandchildren include, John Michael Shelby & wife, Marci, of West Columbia, and Diana Wilder of Houston; 15 great-grandchildren and numerous great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, John Henry Shelby Sr.; sons, Samuel Martin Shelby Sr. and Tommy Shelby; grandson Paul Shelby; six sisters; and two brothers.
