Cruz “C. J.” Figueroa

Funeral services for Cruz “C. J.” Figueroa, 51, of Bay City will be held at 10 a. m. Thursday, Aug. 21, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with the Rev. Edward Boren officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery.

Figueroa died Monday, Aug. 18, 1997, at his residence.

A rosary is scheduled for 7 p. m. Wednesday at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home Chapel.

Born in Bay City Aug. 8, 1946, to the late Cruz Figueroa Sr. and Mary Soto Figueroa, he was a lifelong resident of Bay City and a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.

Survivors are his wife, Judy McCollough Figueroa of Bay City; mother, Mary Soto Figueroa of Bay City; daughter and son-in-law, Tara and David Estraca of Bay City; stepdaughters, Jeanette Barrera, Jovana Barrera and Krista Murphy, all of Bay City; stepsons, Steve Guzman and Eddie Guzman, both of Bay City; sister, Mary Rangel of Batesville, Ark.; brother, Jesse Figueroa of Wilmington, N. C.; and his grandchildren, Ismael Guzman, Samantha Guzman, Celest Guzman, Melanie Guzman, Steve Guzman Jr., David Estraca Jr., Bryan Cruz Figueroa IV, Leighton Murphy and Brianna Murphy.

He was preceded in death by a brother, John Figueroa.

Pallbearers will be Chris Hinman, R. L. Bobbitt, Richard Kubecka, Gary Brune, Keith Brune and Marty Morales.

Memorials may be made to Columbia Hospice Gulf Coast, 1102 N. Mechanic, El Campo 77437.

Arrangements are under the direction of Taylor Brothers Funeral Home.

Cruz F. Figueroa

Cruz F. Figueroa, 57, of Bay City died Sept. 6 in the Matagorda General Hospital. He was born in Bay City Sept. 14, 1917. Survivors include his widow, Mary Soto Figueroa of the home, daughter, Mrs. Mary F. Rangel of Bay City, sons, Cruz Jr., Jesse S. and John Henry Figueroa, all of Bay City, sisters, Petra Perez of Houston, Adela Zepeda of Bay City and Ofelia Gonzales of Freeport, brothers, Roy and Joe Figueroa of Bay City and Roman Figueroa of Alice, and 12 grandchildren. Pallbearers were Daniel Zepeda Jr., David and James Zepeda, Joe Jesse and John Figueroa. Daniel Zepeda was honorary pallbearer. Funeral service was held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, Sept. 6 & 7 with Rev. Joseph Shannon officiating. Interment services was held in the Cedarvale Cemetery. Arrangements with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home.

Roy Figueroa Jr.

Roy Figueroa Jr., 23, a resident of 1900 Ave. D passed away December 14 in Houston. Survivors include: parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Figueroa Sr. of Bay City. Funeral services were held December 15 at 6:30 p. m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church with Rev. Joseph Shannon officiating. Interment was December 16 at 11 a.m. at the Cedarvale Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Louis M. Figueroa, Victor Medina, Daniel F. Zepeda Jr., David Zepeda, Cruz Figueroa Jr., and Charlie Martinez Jr. Honorary pallbearers were: Joe Cordoba, James R. Zepeda, Alex Jimenez, Manuel S. Ramirez and Daniel R. Zepeda. Arrangements with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Roy F. Figueroa, 68, of Bay City will be held 2 p. m. Friday at our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with the Rev. Ed Mundwiller officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City.

Rosary will be 7:30 p. m. today at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home chapel.

Mr. Figueroa was born Feb. 17, 1922, to Louis and Trinquilina Flores Figueroa Sr. and died May 9, 1990, at Town Park Convalescent Home, Houston.

He was a veteran of World War II and a lifelong resident of Matagorda County. He was also a member of the Catholic Church.

He is survived by a sister, Adela F. Zepeda of Bay City; a brother, Raymond Figueroa of Alice; four sisters-in-law, Mary Losoya Figueroa of Alice, Hilma R. Figueroa of Bay City, Niomei Figueroa of Bay City and Mary Soto of Bay City; three brothers-in-law, Daniel R. Zepeda of Bay city, Cidro Perez of Houston and Joe Gonzales Sr. of Freeport; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Julia Solis Figueroa; a son, Roy Figueroa Jr.; two sisters, Ofelia F. Gonzales and Petra F. Perez; and three brothers, Louis Figueroa Jr., Cruz Figueroa and Joe Figueroa.

Pallbearers are Ignacio Garcia, Rolando Rodriguez, Ben C. Kidder, Daniel Zepeda, Ben Trevino and Juan Mendiola.

Arrangements are with Taylor Brothers Funeral Home, Bay City.

John W. McKelvy, Jr.

June 21, 1908 – December 3, 1958

 

John W. McKelvy Passes Away in Houston Tuesday

 

John W. McKelvy, 50, died December 3, at 6:30 AM in the Veterans Hospital in Houston.

 

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 3:00 PM at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home. Interment will be in Cedarvale Cemetery. Rev. A. T. Dyal will officiate.

 

The deceased is survived by: his wife, Mrs. Dorothy Duller McKelvy of Bay City; three sisters, Mrs. Clyde Estlinbaum, Mrs. Lola McDougal of Bay City, and Mrs. David Owen of Houston. Surviving also are: six brothers, Wesley, W. G. and Mart of Bay City, Edward of Tyler, Jim of Greenbriar, Arkansas, and Beal of Beaumont.

 

Mr. McKelvy, who was born and reared in Matagorda County, was a member of VFW. He served in the Army in World War II, was numbered among the volunteers with Merrill’s Marauders, and spent three months behind the Japanese lines when they were cut off from their outfit in 1944, during the China-Burma-Indian campaign.

John Wesley McKelvy

November 16, 1869 – November 26, 1919

 

John Wesley McKelvy, 51, died at 4:45 PM Wednesday at a local hospital. He is survived by: his widow, Mrs. Maggie McKelvy; eight sons, Wesley, William, Jim, Mart, Johnnie, Beal and Wilber of Bay City, and A. E. of Electra; three daughters, Misses Lola, Maggie and Nora Bell of Bay City; one brother, J. W. McKelvy of Oglesby, Texas; and, one sister, Mrs. W. B. Vandiver of Bay City. The body will be forwarded to Bay City Thursday by the Houston Undertaking Company. – Houston Post

 

The body of Mr. McKelvy arrived in the city yesterday, and will be held for burial awaiting the arrival of children who reside at a distance. Miss Lola is in Washington D.C., Ed in Electra, and J. W., a brother, in Oglesby.

Maggie McKelvy


Maggie McKelvy

July 1, 1871 – February 23, 1947

 

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon for Mrs. Maggie McKelvy, 75, who died at her home Sunday morning after an illness of three weeks.

 

Mrs. McKelvy had been a resident of Bay City for 45 years. Surviving are: three daughters, Mrs. Lola McDougall, Mrs. Clyde Estlinbaum, Mrs. Nora Bell Owens; eight sons, Wesley, Edward, Mart, John W., Bill, W. G., Jimmie, and Beal.

 

Services were held at the Matchett-Newman Funeral Home with the Rev. Harry Rankin officiating. Burial was in the Cedarvale Cemetery.
