W. B. Knowles

W. B. Knowles

Our community lost one of its oldest and most loved citizens in the death of Mr. W. B. Knowles, which occurred in Houston on Saturday, December 8th, where he had gone for an operation which proved too great a shock for him at his age, 83 years.

His remains were brought to Bay City on Monday and laid to rest in Cedarvale cemetery by the side of his wife who preceded him seven years ago

Mr. Knowles was born n Alabama on October 5th, 1845, and came to Texas with his parents when ___ 8 years old and has lived in Matagorda county since 1902, making his home in Markham for the past eight years. He was married in 1873 to Miss Dollie Pettis, who died Nov. __, 1921. Mr. Knowles is survived by his only son, Mr. W. R. Knowles, and wife of Markham, and one brother, of Rutherford, Calif., all of whom were with him in his last illness.

"Uncle Bill," as he was affectionately called by his friends, and always led a very active life, and was remarkably preserved for a man of his years, being confined at home for only a short while before his death; and his cheery ways and jolly face will be missed by many friends and neighbors.

We wish to extend sympathy to the bereaved son and wife, and [remainder illegible].
