William T. Blackwell Lula Mae Blackwell  Lula Mae Blackwell Funeral services for Lula Mae Blackwell, 77, of Houston will be held 1 p. m. Saturday at the Taylor Brothers Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Carl Williamson and the Rev. John L. Shepherd officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City. Mrs. Blackwell was born April 7, 1914, to Earl Edwin and Zelphia Ann Ellis Hill and died Dec. 25, 1991, at her home. A former resident of Angleton and West Columbia, she moved to Bellville in March of 1984 and had been a resident of Houston for one month. She taught Sunday school at the First Baptist churches of Angleton and West Columbia. She retired in Bellville and most recently was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bellville. In her later years, she taught art and painting in her home. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and David B. Hawkins of Houston; a son and daughter-in-law, Darrell and Donna Blackwell of Webster; two sisters, and a brother-in-law, Earlene Pyles of Weekleaf, N. C., and Letha and Ray Wilborn of St. James City, Fla.; five grandchildren, Shane Blackwell of Clinton, Md., Barrett Blackwell of Caldwell, Lacey Lea Blackwell of Falls Church, Va., Boyd Hawkins of Mesquite and Holly Orr of Houston; and by three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, W. T. Blackwell, who died Nov. 21, 1985. Pallbearers will be Shane Blackwell, Barnett Blackwell, Boyd Hawkins, Scott Orr, Dennis Jensen and Ronald Jensen. Ollia Mitchell Falks Charlotte F. Falks  Ollia Mitchell Falks Funeral services for Mr. Ollia Mitchell Falks, 78, of Boling will be held 10 a. m. Mr. Falks was born May 25, 1906, in Weimar and died July 29, 1984, at Matagorda General Hospital. He was a long time resident of Bay City and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He is survived by his wife, Nellie Brown Falks of Boling. Other survivors include: four daughters, Marie Pesak of Bay City, Dolores Evanicky of Danbury, Doris Wilks of Bay City and Gayle Orsag of Alvin; and three sons, Ollie G. Falks of Angleton, Donald Falks of Bay City and Edward Falks of Jacksonville, Fla. Bruce L. Freeman  Bruce L. Freeman Graveside services for Bruce L. Freeman, 72, of Bay City will be held 4 p. m. Mr. Freeman was born Jan. 9. 1916, in Bay City to Joe and Pearl Walters Freeman and died July 6, 1988, at his home. He was a lifelong resident of Bay City, a member of First United Methodist Church and a veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife, Audrey Wear Freeman of Bay City; a daughter, Laura Dell Belcher of Harlingen, Texas; a son, Bruce L. Freeman Jr. of Los Alamos, N. Galley died Saturday, May 9 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Houston. He was born June 25, 1945 to John H. and Pauline B. Rulehman Galley in Ottawa, Ill. He was a member of St. Paul’s Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Betty Galley of Bay City; father, John H. Galley, Sr. of Bay City; son, Richard Crayton of Redding, Pa.; five daughters, Alice A. Heckman of Redding, Kellie Schuerger of Douglasville, Pa., Paula Haas of Birdsboro, Pa., Tara Sanchez of Bay City, and Christine Biggerstaff of Bay City; two sisters, Madlynne Webber of Martins Ferry, Ohio, and Virginia McVey of Marietta, Ohio; eight grandsons; four granddaughters; four nieces; and three nephews. Walter A Gavender Walter A. Gavender, 88, of Bay City are scheduled for 10 a. m. today at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church of Bay City with the Revs. Bill Jobe and W. A. Haskell officiating. Burial will follow in Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City. Mr. Gavender was born Oct. 9, 1905, in Wadsworth to Alex and Annie Bunk Gavender and died March 19, 1994, in Bay Villa Nursing Home in Bay City. He served in the U. S. Army from 1942 to 1943 when he was discharged on a medical discharge. In 1949, he received his journeyman’s plumbing license and his masters plumbing license in 1959. He built a plumbing shop on Mary Avenue in 1954 and retired from plumbing in 1992. He worked for Texas Gulf Sulphur Co. for 32 years before moving to Bay City. He was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church where he bought, planted and cared for four oak trees there. Survivors include his wife, Marie Wheat Gavender of Bay City; two sisters, Maggie Weber Cadenhead of Raleigh, N. C., and Lucy Lena Watkins of Fredericksburg; seven nephews, A. C. Herreth of Bay City, Walter Herreth of Houston, Carl Herreth of Lolita, Gerald Watkins of Orange, Melvin and Ronnie Gavender of Bay City and Maurice Weber of Raleigh, N. C. and two nieces, Joy Rickaway of Brazoria and Viola Rickaway of Blessing. He was preceded in death by parents, three sisters and two brothers. Pallbearers are A. She was a very active member of St. Paul’s Methodist Church, a member of the United Methodist Women, She was class president of the Fellowship Class of the First United Methodist Church seven times and a Girl Scout Leader five years and very active in community affairs. She loved people very much. Survivors are brother and sister-in-law, Harold Monroe and Martha Jane Wheat of Bay City; niece, Diann Spence and family of Temple. She was born August 30, 1885 in Oregon and was a retired postmistress from Port Aransas. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Louise Rush of Markham, eight grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Billie Doris Gilmore, a Bay City resident since 1961, went to meet her savior December 2, 2007. She was born October 7, 1927 to Myrtice Powell & Samuel Leatherwood in Dallas, Texas where she lived until she married. Billie worked in the banking industry for approximately 30 years. She concluded her banking career at Bay City Bank and Trust in Bay City, Texas. Some of Billie’s hobbies included bowling, sewing, quilting and playing Bingo. She loved to read and work challenging crossword and sudoku puzzles. Her parents, her children’s father, William E. Howard, and her loving husband, Wilburn Lunn Gilmore preceded her in death. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Sherry Stasney of Bay City; son Ray Howard & wife Julie of Sugar Land; daughter Lynda Bosak & husband Morris of Sugar Land and son Mark Howard & wife Sylvia of Bay City. Vivian Fay Golightly  Vivian Fay Golightly Vivian Fay Golightly, 88, of Bay Villa Nursing Home died at Matagorda General Hospital March 31, 1981. She was born June 15, 1892 in Dennison, Texas. Fay was a long time resident of Bay City coming here in the early 1900’s with her parents, Reverend and Mrs. Baxter Wren Golightly when he was called to minister to the First Christian Church. Fay will be remembered as a nurse to Dr. B. L. Livengood whom she assisted for forty years. She was a faithful and active member of the First Christian Church in Bay City, having taught Sunday School as well as serving on committees and participating in all church functions. Survivors include: nieces and nephews, Margaret Bently, Robert B. Hill Jr., Sara Frances Lewis, Geraldine Lewis, Doris Fowler, Marianne Hartness, Sara Nell Brown, Charlotte Graham, Winnifred Knight, Jane Miller, Vivian Arnone, Rita Griffin and James Embrey and many friends. Dolores "Dee" Louise Gordon, 73, of Santa Fe, Texas died
February 22, 2002 at her daughter's residence in Santa Fe.
She was born August 20, 1928 in Clinton, Iowa to the late
Iver E. and Alice Andersen Hansen. She has been a resident
of Santa Fe for the last 12 years, and was a former longtime
resident of Bay City. She was a member of St. Mark's
Episcopal Church.

Tommy Gordon Dies Former Bay City businessman, City Council member and school board president Tommy Gordon died Friday of an apparent heart attack in Mazatlan, Mexico. He was 60. Gordon served on the council from 1983 through most of 1986. He resigned his position upon moving to Mazatlan in October of 1986. Councilmember Chris Castillo currently holds the position Gordon vacated. Friends and colleagues remember Gordon as a warm individual, concerned with the best interests of the city. “He was a very nice man,” said Councilman Billye Harmer. “Tommy was concerned with any project that was important to the people of Bay City.” Henrietta Krumholz, who served on the Bay City school board with Gordon, called him “a dedicated and very hard worker” who helped lead the district in time of great change. Steve Sullivan, who bought Gordon Air Conditioning & Refrigeration in December 1985, called Gordon “a wonderful, wonderful man.” Sullivan and his wife Elizabeth had known Gordon since 1978. “We loved him very much,” Sullivan said. Gordon, who until his move to Mexico, had been a life-long Bay City resident, experienced health problems in 1984 and 1985 that influenced his move to a slower pace and better climate. Sullivan, who visited Gordon in Mexico over the Christmas holidays, called his death “a real shock” for everyone who knew him. Gordon is survived by his wife, Dee Gordon; daughters Kathleen Sulak of Rosenberg, Patricia Buck of St. Louis, Laura Chitty of Santa Fe, Terry Dee Fraley of Houston and Rhonda Chipman of Mazatlan; a son, Bill Gordon of Dallas; sisters Billie Marie Scheel, Betty Jean Matthes and Helen Ann Ryan, all of Bay City; and 12 grandchildren. Funeral services were scheduled for 4 p. m. Monday at St Mark’s Episcopal Church with the Rev. Hugh Jones officiating. Interment will be at Cedarvale Cemetery. Tommy R. He was a former Bay City councilman, past president of the Bay City Independent School District Board of Trustees, volunteer fireman, member of the Bay City Lions Club and Bay City Jaycees and was a former Man of the Year. He was a member of the Episcopal Church. William Robert "Bill" Gordon Marie Helen "Mimi" Gordon  William Robert Gordon Services were held for William Robert Gordon, 81, of Bay City, 4 p. m. today (Thursday) at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church. Officiating at the services was the Rev. Jack Lowery. Gordon died July 21, 1982 at Matagorda General Hospital. Survivors include daughters, Billie Marie Darby, Ann Ryan, Betty Jean Matthes of Bay City; son, Thomas Raymond Gordon of Bay City; sister, Sallie Richards of Wichita Falls; sisters-in-law, Elsie Gordon of Houston, Bettye Gordon of California; 18 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Gordon moved to Bay City with Groce Parish Company which later became Groce Wearden as a salesman in 1928. He later became vice-president. Gordon established Gordon Wholesale Company in 1949 and was president at the time of his death. He served his community as president of the school board, director of the Chamber of Commerce vestry of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church. In lieu of the usual remembrances the family requests memorials to St. Mark’s Episcopal Church. Burial followed services at Cedarvale Cemetery. Pallbearers included grandsons Rick, Brent and Jeff Darby, Pat, Mike and Doug Matthes and Bill Gordon. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to St. Mark’s Episcopal Church. Clara Louise LeTulle Green Funeral services for Clara Louise LeTulle Green will be at 2 p. m. today at the First United Methodist Church in Bay City with Rev. Mike Toland officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City. Green died April 16 at her residence. She was born Oct. 16, 1927 in Bay City to Sam V. and Clara LeTulle. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, a charter member of the Bay City Country Club and The Junior Service League. She attended Bay City High School and All Saints Episcopal School in Vicksburg, Miss. It was during WWII that she met and married William Franklin Green of Anderson, S. C. on Dec. 27, 1944. In 1947, after Mr. Green’s discharge from the service and completing his studies, they moved to Bay City and went into the farming and ranching business. Green is survived by her son, William Franklin Green III and his wife, Suzanne of Bay City; and two grandsons, Victor LeTulle Green and W. Hammett Green, both of Bay City. She was preceded in death by her brother, Sam LeTulle; and her husband, Bill. Pallbearers are James M. Allen, Eugene Vaughan, Joseph Williams, Dan Wendt, James Lewis, W. Mike Toland officiating. Burial was to follow in Cedarvale Cemetery. Born May 12, 1922, in Anderson, S. C., to William Franklin and Lula Hammett Green, he died at his residence Sept. 7, 1997. He spent his summers at Culver Military Academy and graduated from Swanee Military Academy in 1942. During World War II, Green served in the U. S. Army in the Pacific Theater and later in the occupation of Japan. It was during this period that he met and married Clara L. LeTulle of Bay City on Dec. 27, 1944. After being discharged from the service, he completed his studies at Auburn University and in 1947 and moved to Bay City where he went into farming and ranching. A member of First United Methodist Church, Mr. Green was instrumental in forming the Methodist Men’s Organization. He was also the first president of the Matagorda County Youth Rodeo and a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon and the Southwest Texas Cattle Raisers Association. He also served on the board of directors of the Bay City Library Association and Bay City Country Club. Green is survived by his wife of 52 years, Clara L. Green; his son, William Franklin Green III, and his wife, Suzanne, of Houston and Bay City; and two grandsons, Victor LeTulle Green and William Hammett Green, both of Houston. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, James H. Green. Pallbearers were Dan Wendt, James M. Allen, Bert L. Huebner, Eugene L. Vaughan, L. Herff Cornelius, W. A. The deceased was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Wadsworth, an employee of LCRA for the past ten years, a veteran of WWII, and an area resident since 1917. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Georgie Hahn and daughter, Mrs. Henry Bunk, Jr., both of Wadsworth, sisters, Mrs. Frank Ibrom of Pasadena, Mrs. Henry Skloss of San Antonio, Mrs. A. F. Klingaman of Houston; three sisters, Lois Tidwell of Jones Creek, Delores Jean Klingaman of Bay City and Ruth Klingaman of Houston; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers include Randall Wright, Tony Hammock, Raymond Sneath, Joe Lauer, James Allen Beyer and Craig Sharp. She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie C. Hammock in 1982. Charles H. Haring  Charles Henry Haring Jr. Services will be held for Charles Henry Haring Jr., 62, of Bay City, 2 p. m. Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church. Officiating at the services will be the Rev. Frank Seaman. Haring died July 3, 1982 at Matagorda General Hospital. Survivors include wife, Anna Lee Verser Haring of Bay City; sons, Charles Lee Haring of Houston, Robert A. Haring of Tulsa, Oklahoma; aunt, Stella Plummer of Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Burial will follow services at Cedarvale Cemetery. 2003.
Bohus “Bob” Frank Pesak Funeral services for Bohus “Bob” Frank Pesak, 66, of Victoria, will be held 10 a. m. Tuesday at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Blessing with the Rev. Peter Higgins officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City. A rosary will be said 7:30 p. m. today at the Taylor Brothers Funeral Home chapel in Bay City. Mr. Pesak was born Oct. 24, 1925, to Joseph and Emily Mercha Pesak in Needville and died March 7, 1992 in Victoria. He was a former longtime resident of Bay City and had resided in Victoria since November. He was affiliated with the Catholic church. Survivors include his wife, Marie Falks Pesak of Victoria; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Frank Branagan of Orange and Debra and David Simek of Inez; five grandchildren, Tammye Wymack, Randa Rae, Jake, Stacy and Lora Simek; a sister, Lillian Hlozek of Blessing; a brother, Jerome Pesak of Blessing. He was preceded in death by his son, Randall Ray Pesak; a granddaughter, Sandi Marie Wymack; and a brother, Adolph Pesak. Pallbearers will be Edwin Cherney, James Anderson, Jerry Anderson, Dwayne Falks, Michael Wilks and Don Falks. Arrangements are with Taylor Brothers Funeral Home, Bay City.
