Funeral services for Mrs. Lora Stinnett, 75, of Bay City will be held 2 p. m. Tuesday at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Max Phipps officiating. Burial will be in Cedarvale Cemetery.

Mrs. Stinnett was born Oct. 27, 1908, in Diboll, Texas, and died June 23, 1984 at Matagorda General Hospital. She was a member of the Baptist church and a resident of Bay City since 1929. She is survived by her husband, Quentin Stine Stinnett of Bay City.

Other survivors include: three daughters: Edna Pospisil of El Campo, Loraine Meator of Freeport and Dorothy Shaw of Bay City; one son, Vernie Lewis of Corsicana; sister, Irene Lewis of Ashwood; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Leroy and Johnny Lewis, Charles Bock, David Lewis, Joe Decrox, Johnny Meator, Paul Meator and Pierrre Ducrox.

Arrangements were made with Taylor Brothers Funeral Home.

Quentin S. Stinnett

Quentin S. Stinnett, 66, of Bay City passed away Jan. 23, 1996 at his residence. He was born April 22, 1929 in Wright, Tennessee to John Howard and Ethel Lee Turnbow Stinnett. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene and of the Pipefitters Local Union #211. He is survived by three step-daughters, one step-son, three sisters, Virginia Lee Shelby of Selma, Alabama, Loveda Batley of Savannah, Tennessee, and Dorothy Jane Jackson of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, and by three brothers, John Alba Stinnett of Brazoria, James Henry Stinnett of Lake Jackson, and Landon Stinnett of Florida. Funeral services are scheduled for 3 p. m., Thursday, Jan. 25, 1996 at the Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Gary Pettigrew officiating. Burial will follow at the Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City. Arrangements are with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City.

Roberta Sumpter Dies Of Lingering Illness

Mrs. Robert Sumpter, mother of Mr. James A. Sumpter, manager of the Bay City Chamber of Commerce, died at 6:10 p. m., Saturday, September 2, at the Bay Villa Nursing Home.

A widow, Mrs. Sumpter was born on September 8, 1890 in Birmingham, Alabama.

She had lived in Wharton for fifteen years and in a nursing home there for four years.

Due to required medical care, Mrs. Sumpter had been a resident of Bay City for the past five months.

Graveside services were held today at Cedarvale Cemetery, at 10:00 a. m. with Rev. Charles Cochran officiating. Interment at Cedarvale Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Bay City Lions Club for the Blind.

Clarence R. Swenson

A graveside service for Clarence R. Swenson, 76, of Bay City will be held 2 p. m. Sunday at Cedarvale Cemetery.

Swenson died Friday at the Sweeny House Nursing Home. He was born Nov. 8, 1914 in Austin to Carl Swenson and Sigrid Grill. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include three sisters, Lola Jensen of Wharton, Ruby Tweedle of Bay City and Mary Roeder of Jasper; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements are with Taylor Brothers Funeral Home in Bay City.

Funeral services for Ruth W. Symons, 78, of Alamo, will be held 10 a. m. Saturday at Bay City Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Mike Zimmerman officiating. Burial will be at Cedarvale Cemetery.

Mrs. Symons was born Dec. 20, 1913 in Alliance, Neb. to Floyd O. and Edna Smith Worden and died Dec. 15, 1992 at Rio Grande Regional Hospital in McAllen.

She was a member of the Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband, William John Symons of Alamo; a son, Donald O’Bannon of Spokane, Wash.; a daughter, Linda Lou Berger of Arlington, Va.; four aunts, Hilma Huitt, Freddie Mae Frieze of Bay City, Omega Macken of Kentucky and Ann Adams of Markham and two uncles, J. C. and William Slone of Bay City; five granddaughters and six great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Fred Huitt, E. M. Huitt, David Slone, Billie Slone, Jay Huitt and Hank Huitt.

Services are under the direction of Dick R. Elkins, Bay City Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Catherine Turner, 90, of Wharton will be held 10 a. m. Friday at Bay City Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Ed Mundwiller officiating. Burial to follow in Cedarvale Cemetery, Bay City.

A rosary will be said 8 p. m. today at Bay City Funeral Home.

Mrs. Turner was born Jan. 3, 1899, in North Kingstown, R. I., to James and Mary Jane Cherry Connor and died Jan. 2, 1990, at Gulf Coast Medical Center, Wharton.

She was a member of the Catholic church.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, John H. and Joyce Turner of Bay City; a sister, Lucy Leeming of Bay City; a grandson, Johnny L. Turner of Bryan and two great-grandchildren, Kristin and Andy Turner of Bryan.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Emory Turner, in 1952.

Services are under the direction of Dick R. Elkins, Bay City Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Lucy Leeming, 92, of Bay City are scheduled for 2 p.m., Jan. 22 at Bay City Funeral Home Chapel with Father Ed Boren of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church officiating.  A private burial will be in Cedarvale Cemetery.

Lucy Leeming passed away Jan. 20 at Bay Villa Nursing Home.  She was born March 2, 1905 to parents James and Mary Chery Connor in North Kingstown, Rhode Island.  She has been a resident of Bay City for several years.

Survivors include her nephew and wife, John and Joyce Turner of Bryan; great nephew and wife, Johnny and Debbie Turner of Bryan; great great nephew and niece, Andy and Kristin Turner of Bryan; and three nieces.

Arrangements are with Bay City Funeral Home in Bay City.

Funeral services for Clyde E. Turner, 82, of Bay City, were held at 4 p. m. Sunday at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home Chapel with Rod Tate, Ronny Wheeler and James Davis officiating. Burial was in Cedarvale Cemetery, Bay City.

Mr. Turner was born Feb. 10, 1903, and died at 8 p. m. Oct. 25, 1985, at his residence.

He was a retired employee of Mobil Oil Co.

Survivors include his wife, Adelia Turner of Bay City; two sons, Donald Doss of Bay City and Herman Turner of California; a brother, Cecil Turner of Melburn, Ark.; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers included Donnie Doss, Donnie O’Connell, Andy Anderson, Bob Sheppard, Hubert Johnson and Adrian Dickson III.

Funeral services for Adelia Turner, 72, of Bay City are scheduled for 2 p. m. Sunday at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home chapel with Brother Rod Tate and Brother James Davis officiating. Burial will be in Cedarvale Cemetery, Bay City.

Mrs. Turner was born March 1, 1915, in Tyron, Okla., and died at 12:30 p. m. Aug. 28, 1987, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Houston.

A resident of Bay City for 15 years, she was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include two sons, Donald Dawes of Bay City, Herman Turner of Concord, Calif.; a sister, Ethel Dixon of Cushing, Okla; two brothers, Glen Hemphill of Stillwater, Okla;, Harry Hemphill of Calif.; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers include Adrian Dixon Jr., Adrian Dixon III, Donnie Dawes, Donnie O’Connell and Jessie Frenzel.

Charles R. Watson

Memorial services for Charles R. Watson, of Sun City Center, Fla. are pending.

Mr. Watson was born June 6, 1930, in Evanston, Ill., and died Oct. 15, 1995.

He came to Florida from Bay City in 1989 where he had resided for 26 years. He was a farmer for six years, a chemical plant operator for 31 years, and was most recently employed by Hoechst Celanese.

He was a former member of First United Methodist Church of Bay City and served on the Bay City Bowling Association as secretary-treasurer and director of annual tournaments. Until his death, he served the Cypress Greens Men’s Golf Club as treasurer and Greens Committee Chairman, Cypress Greens Gold Association, Sun City Center.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Alice of Sun City Center, a daughter, Jeannine Buller; a son-in-law, Billy Buller; granddaughters, Vicky and Cynthia Buller of Dayton; two sisters, Alice Tetzlaff of Sarasota, Fla. and Katherine Schmitt and husband, Dennis, of Los Fresnos; two brothers, Hebert Watson and wife, Eileen of Kingsville and Harry Watson Jr. and wife, Edwarda of Los Fresnos, 10 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Karl and Mike Watson of Bay City.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Hillsborough County, the American Cancer Society or the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Michael Ray Watson

Funeral services for Michael Ray Watson, 27, of Bay City will be held at 11 a. m. Friday at Sixth Street Church of Christ with Brother Rod Tate officiating. Burial will be in Cedarvale Cemetery.

Mr. Watson was born March 25, 1959, in Kingsville, Texas, to Charles and Mary Alice Bode Watson and died Dec. 9, 1986, at his residence.

He graduated from Bay City High School in 1979. He was a member of Boy Scout troop 45 where he achieved the Order of the Arrow and later served as an adult leader. He was a member of Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by brother, Karl L. Watson, in 1977.

Survivors include his parents, Charles and Mary Watson of Bay City; a sister and brother-in-law Jeannine and Billy Buller of Dayton; grandmother, Alice F. Watson of Los Fresnos; two uncles, Herbert Watson of Kingsville and Harry Watson of Los Fresnos; three aunts, Katherine Schmitt of Los Fresnos, Alice Tetzloff of Sarasota, Fla., and Happy Bingham of Acworth, Ga.; three nieces, Victoria and Cynthia Buller, both of Dayton, and Tammy Buller Thornton of Bay City; a nephew, Billy Buller Jr. of Bay City; and 16 cousins.

Pallbearers include Tommy Nelson, Glenn Easterly, Scott Griffin, Mike Finster, Aytch Snyder and Brett Herreth. Honorary pallbearers include Dennis Mulder and Tommy Sedam.

Funeral services for Opal Radke Watson, 81, of Spring will be held 2 p. m. Saturday at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. John Richardson officiating. Burial will be in Cedarvale Cemetery, Bay City.

Mrs. Watson was born April 24, 1907, in Lufkin, Texas to Paul John and Cora Mae Ballinger Radke and died Aug. 4, 1988, at Houston Northwest Memorial Center.

Prior to her move to Spring, Mrs. Watson was a resident of Bay City for 40 years and was a member of First Christian Church, Bay City.

Survivors include a daughter, Paula Ann Wiesner of Spring; three sons, Carl Daniel Watson of Houston, Darvin Ray Watson of Spring and Travis O. Watson of Houston; a sister, Avis Bissett of Wadsworth; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, W. O. Watson, in 1981.

Funeral services for Edward Henry Wendt, 94, of Bay City are scheduled for 2 p. m. Monday at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Sam Starks officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery.

Mr. Wendt was born Dec. 8, 1899 in Sweet Home to William M. and Emma Kerrth Wendt and died Jan. 1, 1994 at Matagorda House.

A life-long resident of Matagorda County, he was a member of Knights Templar, Shriners, and a member of Blessing Masonic Blue Lodge No. 411, where he received his 50 year card in 1992. He was a member of the Baptist church.

Mr. Wendt retired from Marathon Oil Co., in 1965 after 25 years of service.

Survivors include s son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Jane Wendt of Sargent; and a nephew, Dan Wendt, of Bay City.

Pallbearers are Dale Sanders, C. H. Clements, Jr., Ken Estes, Wayne Wendt, Gene Kubecka, and Don Matthews.

Mr. Wendt was preceded in death by his wife, Lela Fern Wendt, in August 1987 and his granddaughter Angela Wendt Smith  in June 1993.

Survivors include her husband, Edward H. Wendt of Bay City; a son and daughter-in-law, Dale E. and Jane Wendt of Sargent; a sister, Flossie Novak of Shiner, a brother, Ike McElroy of Shiner; and a granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Angelia and Greg Smith of El Campo.

David M. Wilhite, 46, of Bay City died March 31 in an auto accident in Victoria. Survivors include; wife, Manulita of Bay City; mother, Mrs. Cora Villar of Hearn, sons, David Jr. and Antonio of Bay City; daughters, Donna, Maria, Diana, Angela, and Carmen Wilhite of Bay City; brothers, Edward of Chicago, Ill. and Frank of San Antonio; sisters, Mrs. Earlene King of Georgetown, Margie Mahone of Marshall, and Deborah A. Martin of Alabama. Funeral services were held at the Bay City Funeral Home Chapel Monday, April 2, at 3 p. m. with Rev. Foster Parnell of Bay City Baptist Church officiating. Interment was at the Cedarvale Cemetery with pallbearers being: Frank Wilhite and the students of the Bay City Christian Academy.

Funeral services for Hazel K. Williams, 73, of Bay City, were held at 11 a. m. Monday, Feb. 20, 1995, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Chester Sassman officiating. Burial followed in Cedarvale Cemetery.

Mrs. Williams was born Nov. 3, 1921, in Groesbeck to Walter and Minnie Tullus Huff and died Feb. 18, 1995, at M. D. Anderson Hospital in Houston.

A former longtime resident of Houston, she moved to Jackson, Miss. to be with her daughter after her retirement. For the past four years, she has been a resident of Bay City and a member of the Baptist church.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Melisa Rebecca “Becky” and Tom Bailey of Katy; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert Dale “Bob” and Pat Williams of Bay City; five grandchildren, Lisa Woods of Katy, Mark Woods of Lufkin, Mike Williams of Austin, Melinda Boyd of West Columbia and Robert Williams of Lake Jackson; two step-grandchildren, Mike Boyd of West Columbia and Terre McClure of West Columbia; a great-grandchild, Jeffrey Williams of Austin and two step-great-grandchildren, Christopher Maynard and Gabrielle McClure of West Columbia.

Raymond H. Wilson, 93, of Bay City, Texas, passed away February 11, 2014.

He was born September 28, 1920 in Quinlan, Texas to the late R. R. Wilson and Rosie Coody Wilson.

Survivors include his daughters, Debra Nalley of South Dakota and Ruth Billeau of Van Vleck; sons, Richard Wilson of Markham, Roger Wilson of Bay City, Wayne Wilson of Quinlan, TX and Kenneth Wilson of Alturas, CA; 16 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., Monday, February 17, 2014, at the funeral home.

The Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home with the Rev. Melvin Ryman officiating.

Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery.

Mrs. Wilson was born Nov. 17, 1918, in Frisco, Texas, to Albert and Denea Smith Kilgo and died July 19, 1988, at Matagorda General Hospital, Bay City.

A resident of Wadsworth since 1963, she was a member of the Nazarene church.

Survivors include her husband, Raymond “Ray” Wilson of Wadsworth; two daughters and sons-in-law, LaDonia Ruth and Wilbert Billeau of Markham and Debbie and Jerry Nalley of Bay City; four sons and daughters-in-law, Wane and Mattie Wilson of Teague, Texas, Roger D. and Pat Wilson of El Campo, Kenneth R. and Annie Wilson of California and Richard L. Wilson of Wadsworth, four sisters, Vinnie Beck of Mesquite, Texas, Bertha Clements of Dallas, Luesta Harvell of Celina and Lois Evelyn Rickie of Indiana; three brothers, Alex Kilgo of Willis Point, Texas, Willie Kilgo of Pilot Point, Texas, and T. M. Kilgo of Sherman, Texas; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
