Father of Mrs. Homer Aparicio Dies In New Gulf Hospital, Sept. 2

Celso Rodriguez, 69, father of Mrs. Homer Aparicio, died Friday, September 2, at the New Gulf Hospital.

 

Rosary was recited Friday night in Taylor Brothers Funeral Chapel in Bay City and requiem mass was held at 4:00 PM Saturday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church with Rev. Richard Jeffery officiating. Interment was in Cedarvale Cemetery.

 

A resident of Palacios for the past 11 years, he was a retired employee of Texas Gulf Sulphur Company.

Rodriquez Rites Held Early Today

 

Mass was held at 11:00 AM Monday for Joe Rodriquez, Jr., 44, of Houston, who died Friday morning in the Veterans Administration Hospital. Services were conducted by Rev. Richard Jeffery in the Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment followed in Cedarvale Cemetery. Rosary was said at 8:00 PM Sunday in the Taylor Brothers Funeral Chapel.

 

Survivors include: his wife, Minga, of Houston; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jose Rodriquez of Bay City; three daughters, Josephine and Lupe of Houston, and Mary Jane of Van Vleck; three sons, Joe, III, Johnny and Jimmy; and, three brothers, Jesse and Porfirio of Bay City and Aniceto of Houston.

Luis Rodriguez Sr., 25, of Bay City, died March 1st. Survivors include: wife, Josephine Rodriguez; mother, Mrs. Gloria Rodriguez; grandmother, Mrs. Mary Rodriguez; son, Luis Rodriguez Jr., daughters, Alica and Malinda Rodriguez; brothers, Porfirio, Ernest, Angel, Jessie, and Ricky, all of Bay City, and Ruben of San Marcus; sisters, Mary Jane Trevino of Austin and Esther Rodriguez of Bay City.

 

Funeral services were held this morning, Monday March 3rd, at 9:00 AM, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Father J. B. Shannon officiating. Interment was at Cedarvale Cemetery. A Rosary was held Sunday night at Our Lady of Guadalupe.

 

Pallbearers: Porfirio, Ernest, Angel, Ruben, Jessie and Ricky Rodriguez. Services were under the direction of Dick R. Elkins of Bay City Funeral Home.

Saturday Night Stabbing

Garay Arrested for Murder

 

A Saturday night fight in Bay City resulted in the stabbing death of Luis Rodriguez Sr. Rodriguez was involved in a fight in Weaver’s Lounge around 1:30 AM following a reported argument with Feliciano Garay.

 

City police found Rodriguez on the floor inside the lounge when they arrived at the scene. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Matagorda General Hospital. Police arrested Garay on charges of murder and released him on a $10,000 bond. The case will be presented to the March Grand Jury today.

 

Police reports show that Rodriguez had been stabbed and slashed “multiple times” before bleeding to death of the bar room floor.

Porfirio Rodriguez, Sr.

1927 - 1971

 

Rodriguez, Porfirio, Sr., age 44, passed away suddenly Tuesday, November 16. He is survived by: his widow, Mrs. Gloria Rodriguez, Bay City; his mother, Mrs. Maria Rodriguez; and three daughters, Mary Jane, Helen and Ester, all of Bay City. Also seven sons; Porfirio Jr., Louis, Angel, Ruben, Jessie, Rickey, all of Bay City and Ernest, serving with the U. S. Army in Germany. Two brothers, Jessie of Markham and Ray of San Jose, California; two sisters, Mrs. Candy Arsola of Bay City and Mrs. Florence Mendese of San Jose, California; and seven grandchildren.

 

Mass will be said at 10:30 AM Thursday, November 19, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Father Joe Shannon officiating. Interment will be in Cedarvale Cemetery. Services under the direction of Dick R. Elkins, Bay City Funeral Home.

A Funeral Mass for Gloria Rodriguez, 64, of Bay City, is scheduled for 10:00 AM Friday, November 18, 1994, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with the Rev. Edward Boren officiating. Burial will follow in Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City. A Rosary will be said at 7:00 PM Thursday, November 17, 1994, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Chapel.

 

Mrs. Rodriguez was born November 13, 1930, in Fentress, Caldwell County, to John and Juanita Trejo Gonzales and died November 15, 1994, at Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City. She was a resident of Bay City for the past 45 years and a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.

 

Survivors include: her mother, Juanita Gonzales of Bay City; three daughters, Mary Jane Pulido of Austin, Ester Alvarado of Bay City and Gloria Ramirez of Bay City; six sons, Ruben Rodriguez of Austin, Jesse Rodriguez of Bay City, Porfirio Rodriguez of San Jose, California, Ricky Rodriguez of Bay City, Ernest Rodriguez of Bay City and Angel Rodriguez Sr. of Bay City; four sisters, Eusivea Gonzales of Baytown, Lupe Montanna of Prairie Lea, Manuela Gonzales of Prairie Lea and Rudie Gonzales of Prairie Lea; and 44 grandchildren.

 

She was preceded in death by: her father, John Gonzales; her husband, Porfirio Rodriguez Sr.; a son, Louis Rodriguez Sr. and a brother, Gonzales Sr.

 

Pallbearers are her grandsons, Robert Lee Trevino Jr., Porfirio Rodriguez, Anthony Rodriguez, Rene Rodriguez, Christopher Alvarado, Michael Rodriguez and Louis Rodriguez III.

Jesse Perez – Joe Perez – Jesse Romero, Jr.

Jesse Perez, 19, one of the most popular students in Bay City High School, died Wednesday in John Sealy Hospital. His death came as the result of injuries received in an automobile accident Saturday night, east of Boling.

Five other persons died in this accident, including two from Bay City, Jesse Romero, Jr., and Joe Perez, Jesse’s brother.

Jesse was a two year letterman on the Black Cat football team and was the mainstay of the pitching staff on the Cat baseball team last season.

Assistant high school principal Sam Maglitto said “Jesse was an excellent student, well liked by the other students, and a top notch youngster. He will be missed at Bay City High School.

A Rosary will be said for Jesse at 8 p. m. today at Taylor Brothers Chapel. Mass will be Friday at 5 p. m. in Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, and interment will be at Cedarvale.

He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Pedro Perez; four sisters, Mrs. Valentina Valdez and Mrs. Cynthia Rodriguez of Houston; Susie De La Rosa and Frances Perez of Bay City, two brothers, Pete Jr., and George of Houston.

James Aloysius Rother, 76, of Bay City passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2016. He was born August 28, 1939 in Bay City to the late John Sr. & Anna Ottis Rother. James and his father were County Surveyors in Matagorda County for 73 years combined. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 3070 in Bay City, and an active lifetime member of Holy Cross Parish in Bay City. James enjoyed model railroading, and was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.

He is survived by his 2 sons: Dean Rother & wife Emily of Houston and Kent Rother & wife Jill of Choctaw, OK; 5 grandchildren: Grace & Aaron Rother of Choctaw, OK and Quincy, Mitchell, & John Rother of Houston; 2 brothers: John Rother Jr. of Palacios and Bernard Rother & wife Madeline of Palacios; 2 sisters: Mary Anne Gibson & husband Jim and Mickie Krchnak & husband Johnny; and numerous nieces, nephews, & other loving family members. James was preceded in death by his parents, and wife: Doris Rother.

The Rosary will be recited at 6:00 PM Friday, May 20, 2016 at the funeral home. The Mass will be held 10:00 AM Saturday, May 21, 2016 at Holy Cross Catholic Church with Father Michael Rother officiating. Pallbearers will be: Troy Rother, Eric Krchnak, Kyle Krchnak, Trey Young, Mitch Abshier, and Greg Whitaker. Honorary Pallbearer will be Forrest Whitaker.

Doris Rother, 60, of Bay City died August 8, 2004 at M D Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. She was born May 11, 1944 in Buna, Texas to the late Leo E. and Tessie B. Young McBride.

Doris was a resident of Bay City since 1966 and was a member of the First Baptist Church. She also was a member of the Bay City Pilot Club.

Survivors include: her husband of 38 years, James A. Rother of Bay City; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dean and Emily Rother of Houston, and Kent and Jill Rother of Choctaw, Oklahoma; sisters, Jean Whitaker of Deer Park and Wanda Young of Beaumont; brother, Waylon McBride of Buna; one granddaughter, Grace Rother of Choctaw, Oklahoma; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Thursday, August 12, 2004, at the First Baptist Church of Bay City with the Rev. Mike Zimmerman officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m.

Pallbearers will be her nephews: Troy and Michael Rother, Eric and Kyle Krchnak, Greg and Forrest Whitaker, and Trey Young.

Nacanor M. Ruiz, Jr., from Albuquerque, NM passed away March 29, 2002 at Presbyterian Medical Center in Albuquerque. He was born September 11, 1943 in Brownsville, TX to Nicanor and Ynocencia Ruiz.

He is survived by: brother, Ray Ruiz of Bay City; sisters, Guadalupe Ybarra of Alvin and Tomasita Pena of Channelview.

Nicanor will have a small service on April 6, 2002 at 10 a.m. at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City. Services will be held by Pastor Dan Villareal. He will be missed by all of us. We Love You. A00114B2002AR07

Funeral services for Ynocencia M. Ruiz, 88, will be at 2 p. m. Friday, August 22, 1997 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Rev. Edward Boren officiating. Mrs. Ruiz passed away Wednesday, August 20, 1997, in Alvin, TX. Rosary will be at 7 p. m. Thursday at the Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be at Cedarvale Cemetery, Bay City. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers. She was born December 28, 1908 in Corpus Christi, to Joaquin and Tomasita Perez Martinez.

She was a former resident of Brownsville, a resident of Bay City for 30 years, and a resident of Alvin for the past four years.

She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Bay City. She is survived by six daughters, Ofelia Vargas of Bay City, Gloria Rodriguez and husband Alberto of Bay City, Tomasita Pena and husband Isidaro of Houston, Aurora Tamez of Bay City, Maria Pena of Danbury, and Guadalupe Ybarra and husband Bernardo of Alvin; by three sons, Niconor Ruiz, Jr. of Houston, Ray Ruiz of San Antonio, and Ruben Ruiz of Richwood.

She is also survived by a sister, Elvira Sanchez of Bay City; by a brother, David Martinez of Bay City; by 39 grandchildren, 65 great grandchildren, and by numerous great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Niconor Ruiz, Sr. on May 30, 1970; by her sons, Richard Ruiz on July 26, 1994 and Robert Ruiz on June 8, 1986; by a sister, Estephina Bustos; and by two brothers, Marcelino Martinez and Charlie Martinez, Sr. Arrangements are with Taylor Bros. After a long and courageous battle with cancer, Paul Edgar Ryan passed away in his home on July 8, 2008. He was born in Iraan, Texas on September 9, 1938 to the late Archie & Luella Mullens Ryan. He married Ann Gordon on Jan. 28, 1961. He is survived by his wife Ann; daughters Jennifer Arbuckle & husband Neil of Bay City, Mary Catherine Auzston & husband Floyd of Bay City, Hilary Bracher & husband Jimmy of Houston & Carrie McGalliard & husband Alec of Bay City; grandchildren Courtney Sones & husband Jason, Brittney Hutto & husband Paul, Will, Jake & Grace Bracher, Grant & Chloe McGalliard; great grandsons Jackson & Paul Ryan Sones; brother Charles Ryan & wife Barbara & a number of nieces and nephews. Paul was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and much loved story teller as well as barber. A special “Thank You” to his care givers, especially, Dr. George Blumenschein at MD Anderson, Kim Harris his Home Health Care nurse and from Hospice, Pat Matthes, Cynthia Priestmeyer, Don Storey as well as many others. Helen Ann Ryan
October 15, 1939 - March 22, 2020

Helen Ann Ryan, 80, passed away Sunday night, March 22, 2020. 

Ann was born to W. R. “Bill” and Marie Gordon in Bay City, Texas, on October 15, 1939. She married the love of her life Paul E. Ryan on January 28, 1961. She was beloved by her family and active in her community as a member of Main Street. A lifelong resident of Matagorda County, Ann was a fixture at city council meetings and in the pews of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, where she taught Sunday school and volunteered at the Friday breakfasts.

She owned and operated Nanny Goose for many years and was a published author of children’s books and a talented artist. Ann loved her bridge club, her bunco group and the Bay City Black Cats. 

Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Paul; her brother, Tommy Gordon; and her sister, Billie Marie Scheel.

She is survived by her sister, Betty Matthes; four daughters, Jennifer Arbuckle, Mary Catherine Ryan, Hilary Bracher and Carrie McGalliard; sons-in-law, Neil Arbuckle, Jimmy Bracher and Alec McGalliard; grandchildren, Courtney and Jason Sones, Brittney and Jason Glenewinkel, Will and Candace Bracher, Jake Bracher, Grant McGalliard, Grace Bracher and Chloe McGalliard; and great-grandchildren, Nicolle Glenewinkel, Jackson Sones, Paul Ryan Sones, Kaylee Glenewinkel, Bode Sones and Brooklyn Hutto. 

Services are pending.
