Palomar Takes Last Ball Game From Collegeport

 

After getting off to a whirlwind start Palomar continued to pile up the score and defeated the Collegeport nine 14 to 6, making two out of three in the series with Collegeport.

 

The scoring started in the first inning, when Teague singled, stole second and came home on Maley's hit to center; Maley followed with a stolen base and scored on Johnson's hit. Johnson scored on Mims' hit, after which Mims went out stealing second.

 

In the second Knight singled to left and moved to second on Dearman's out and to third on Brown's hit. Knight and Brown scored on Orem 's hit to right. Teague then followed with a hit and both runners scored on Maley's hit. In the fourth Orem singled and moved to third on Teague's hit to center. Orem scored and Teague went to second on Maley's out; Teague later scored on Johnson's hit. Johnson stole second and advanced on Mims' out and came home on a passed ball. Orem hit to center in the eighth an went to second on Teague's easy grounder and scored on Maley's hit to center.

 

In the last inning Mims started with a double to left, Wade then fanned and Wood hit to second, who fumbled; Mims went to third and Wood was safe on first. Both men then scored on Dearman's triple to right, and Dearman scored also on a bad peg into home.

 

Collegport scored one in the third on two hits and a stolen base, and one in the fourth the same way. They scored three in the seventh on a walk, a hit and two errors, and one in the eighth on an error and an overthrow to second.

Past Events

A family reunion picnic was held Monday at the residence of Mrs. J. H. Prior. There were present thirty-five relatives which included four generations. Mrs. George S. Welsby and son, Glen Dale, of Collegeport, Tex., and John H. Prior of Fort Dodge, Ia., were honor guests. Mrs. Welsby was formerly Miss Almeda Prior, who was a resident of this city for many years.

Mr. and Mrs. Matt Pierce and son, Junior, of Collegeport, Texas, returned this week from a visit at Arvada, Colo., with her brother, Charles Smaha, and at Broken Bow and Ravenna, Neb., with relatives. They are visiting in Red Oak with Mrs. Pierce’s brother, Fred Smaha.
