Once more Christmas has come and gone. To many people it meant much happiness, gathering with friends and family, brightly lighted trees, colorful wrapped packages and the smell of turkey roasting in the oven. But to some it was not such a gala affair. I am speaking of those who lost love ones so near the holiday season, to those we extend our deepest sympathy: Mr. and Mrs. James Penland, who lost their baby son; to the families of Tommy Quinn, Mrs. Lillian Wiley, Ruel Foley, Willard (Bea) Williams and the S. R. Flewellen family. S. R. passed away January 4th at a Houston hospital. He was the son-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. Verner Bowers of Collegeport.

Visiting the L. C. Smith family during the holidays were the Bill Smith family of Cleveland, the L. C. Smith, Jr. family and Miss Karan Bliss of Houston, also Billy Hejtmanek of the University of Texas.

Rev. and Mrs. M. D. Morehead spent New Year’s with Mrs. Zelphia Hill. The Moreheads are from Hebbronville, Texas.

Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Janke and daughters of Wharton were holiday guests of her grandparents, the M. A. Ellis’s.

Happy birthday to the following who celebrated birthdays recently: Lynn Leftwich on December 19, Francis Rapstain on December 24, George Junek and Cynthia Junek on December 19 and Freda Long on December 16.

Mr. and Mrs. W. V. Dowell and family of Houston visited Mrs. Dowell’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. A. Ellis, during Christmas.

Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Dolan Dixon who are the proud parents of the first baby born in Matagorda County in 1970. The baby arrived at 4:08 a. m. January 1 at Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City.

Home for the holidays visiting their parents, the Pat Jenkins, and friends were Spec./5 Roland Jenkins from Fort Hood, PFC Harvey Smith and Lynette from Fort Gordon, Augusta, Ga.

The Jack Bullingtons, Pat Jenkins, Robert and Betty Jenkins spent part of the holidays at their deer lease near Bandera. Pat killed two bucks, an eight pointer and a 10 pointer, a large doe and a wild turkey gobbler that field dressed 19 pounds. Robert got a large doe also. Me? I killed my first deer this year, a doe and a buck. If the buck had had eight more points it would have had s many as Pat’s 10 pointer. We spent New Year’s Day at the Jack Cooper’s Ranch at Tarpley, Texas.

Visiting the Jack Bullingtons during Christmas were the Jewel Bullingtons of Brazoria, Mr. and Mrs. Gail Leftwich and sons, Ray and Glen, of Bay City, Jackie and Kelly Morris and Donna Eikenberg of Houston, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Gayle of Markham, also Mr. and Mrs. R. Rock and sons of Houston.

Bobby and Sherry Gates of Houston visited his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jay Gates, Christmas day.

Guess this does it for this time. Have any news call me at 972-2195.

Hope everyone a very happy and prosperous new year. “So as you start out to make your mark in life in this new year of 1970—watch out for the little guys with the erasers!”
