Jan. 14, 1926

The regular meeting of the Collegeport Woman’s Club met at the home of Mrs. Heisey on the afternoon Jan. 14.  12 members present.

Minutes of the last meeting read and approved.

Reports from the following standing committees were called for and given.
Library – Mrs. King, chairman
Visiting – Mrs. Nelson, chairman
Music – Mrs. Liggett, chairman
Program – Mrs. Clark, chairman

Annual report of secy read and accepted.

After a discussion of what to do with the money given the Club by the Dramatic Art Club, it was decided not to buy curtains as was first intended. (The following committees were approved.)

There being no program for the afternoon, the meeting adjourned to meet with Mrs. Liggett in Feb.

Secys Annual Report 1925 – given on Jan. 14, 1926

On Dec. 24, 1924 the following officers of the Collegeport Woman’s Club were elected:

Pres. – Mrs. King
Vice Pres. - Mrs. Goff
Secy – Mrs. Chapin
Treas. – Mrs. Nelson

The officers took their seats at the meeting of Jan. 8, 1925 and the following report is the result of the Club under the guidance.

With one exception, that of Treas., the officers have all served during the year. Mrs. Nelson was not able physically to take the Treas. office. Mrs. Corse was elected in her place.

The church was decorated for the Baccalaureate sermon by the Woman’s Club.

A Valentine reception was given, also a home talent carnival.

A gift of $5.00 (five) dollars was presented to the Club which was very much appreciated.

25 books have been presented to the library. 70 books were bought for the library with money taken in from the carnival.

New rules for the library have been made, printed and hung up in the library and school house.

The County Federation meetings have not been very well attended this year on account of bad roads and etc.

A miscellaneous program was planned and carried for the following year.

The following subjs have been presented: Flowers, Cooking, Art, Household Hints, Texas History, Travels, Music, Fire Prevention, Thanksgiving.

Up to date, we have 22 paid up members.

Feb. 11, 1926

The regular meeting of the Collegeport Woman’s Club met at the home of Mrs. Liggett on the afternoon of Feb. 11.

The meeting was called to order by the President.

Minutes of last meeting read and approved.

Treas. gave the annual report. Motion made by Mrs. Clapp, seconded by Mrs. Nelson, this report be accepted. Carried.

Mrs. Nelson presented a bill of $.65¢.

Motion made by Mrs. Chapin, seconded by Mrs. Clapp, this bill be accepted and paid. Carried.

Motion made by Mrs. Clapp, seconded by Mrs. Liggett, that Mrs. Sims be our delegate to next Federation meeting to be held at Palacios. Carried. Nomination made by Mrs. Corse, seconded by Mrs. Clapp, that Mrs. Crane be alternate. Carried.

The program committee reported they had the program made out for the year.

There being no further business, the meeting adjourned to meet at the Library. Mrs. Nelson & Mrs. Murry hostesses.

March 11, 1926

The regular meeting of the Collegeport Woman’s Club met at the Library on the afternoon of March 11th. Mrs. Nelson & Mrs. Murry hostesses.

The meeting was called to order by the Pres. Minutes of the last meeting read and approved.

There being no delegate to go from our Club to the County Federation, the Secy was instructed to write a report and send it in.

Three letters were read, one from Mrs. Frisk, Secy of the P. T. A., one from Secy of the C. P. & L. and the other from Royal Dixon.

There being no further business, the meeting was turned over to Mrs. Chapin, leader of program. Subj: Sicily

After with delicious refreshments were served.

The meeting adjourned to meet at the Library in April, Mrs. Corse leader Subj: Cactus.

April 8, 1926

The regular meeting of the Collegeport Woman’s Club met at the Library on the afternoon on April 8.

Meeting called to order by the Vice Pres.

Minutes of last meeting read and approved.

Treas. report read and accepted.

Motion made by Mrs. Liggett, seconded by Mrs. Holsworth, the Club give five dollars toward paying for the stage built in the Community House. Carried.

Motion made by Mrs. Nelson, seconded by Mrs. Janes, the Club send six dollars to the County Federation for our part in the scholarship fund. Carried.

The meeting was turned over to Mrs. Corse, leader subj.

May 13th, 1926

The regular meeting of the Collegeport Woman’s Club met at the library on the afternoon of May 13th. Mrs. Holsworth hostess.  6 members & 1 visitor present

Meeting called to order by the Pres. Minutes of the last meeting read and approved.

Treas. report read and accepted.

Motion made by Mrs. Holsworth, seconded by Mrs. Heisey, for the Club to buy the material and do the decorating for the graduating class. Carried.

After some discussion it was decided to wait until more number were present to decide about the club giving a medal for the arithmetic class.

Mrs. Heisey had charge of the program, continuation of the Hawaiian Islands, which was very interesting.

No further business, the adjournment to meet at the library, Mrs. King, hostess. Mrs. Boeker leader of program.

July 8, 1926

The regular meeting of the Collegeport Woman’s Club met at the home of Mrs. Boeker on the afternoon of July 8. Mrs. King hostess.  7 members & 3 visitors present.

The meeting was called to order by the President. Minutes of the last meeting read and approved.

The Treas. being absent, there was no Treas. report. The President reported that $30.00 was cleared on the drinks served May 25th.

Motion made by Mrs. Holsworth, sec. by Mrs. Janes, the bill made May 25th be accepted & pd.

Two bills were presented by the President, one for the paint for the library and one for the painting of the library. Motion made by Mrs. Sims, seconded by Mrs. Holsworth the bills be accepted & paid.

Motion made by Mrs. Holsworth, seconded by Mrs. Boeker, that we extend an invitation to the County Federation for the next meeting in Sept.

The meeting was turned over to Mrs. Boeker, leader subj. which was very interesting.

August 12, 1926

The Collegeport Woman’s Club met at the home of Mrs. Frank King on the afternoon of Aug. 12.  9 members & 1 visitor present.

The meeting was called to order by the President.

Minutes of the last meeting read and approved.

The treasurer reported that we had $29.50 in the treasure due to the work done Collegeport Day.

The motion was made by Mrs. Clapp, seconded by Mrs. Nelson, that the report be accepted and we extend our appreciation for the faithful work this committee has done. Carried.

Motion made by Mrs. Holsworth, seconded by Mrs. Liggett, the money in the treasure be turned over to the library committee to use it as they see fit. Carried.

Motion made by Mrs. Liggett, seconded by Mrs. Nelson, Mrs. Clapp be our delegate to the County Federation to be held in the Collegeport Community House Sept. 4. Carried.

The President appointed the chairmans of the Committees for the Federation meeting. No further business the meeting adjourned for a social hour and delicious refreshments were served by the hostess.

Sept. 9, 1926

The regular meeting of the Collegeport Woman’s Club met at the home of Mrs. Chapin on the afternoon of Sept. 9  12 members & 1 visitor present.

The meeting was called to order by the president.

Minutes of last meeting was read and approved.

Treas. absent. No report.

The motion made by Mrs. Nelson, seconded by Mrs. Clapp that the treasurer be authorized to pay all bills made for the federation meeting.

Mrs. Clapp, our Federation delegate, gave a good report of the meeting.

Motion made by Mrs. Clapp, seconded by Mrs. Sims, we pay the $5.00 (five dollars) to the Federation as we have always.

After some discussion, it was decided the Club would enforce the parliamentary laws. Mrs. Sims was appointed parliamentarian.

No further business, the meeting was turned over to Mrs. King, leader of program. Subj. Parliamentary laws, which was interesting as well as instructive.

Oct. 14, 1926

The regular meeting of the Collegeport Woman’s Club met at the home of Mrs. Sims on the afternoon of Oct. 4.  14 members & 3 visitors present

The meeting was called to order by the president.

The minutes of last meeting was read and approved.

Treasurer report was read and accepted.

Bills for the new books $1.64 was presented by Mrs. King.

Mrs. King gave a report on the health meeting at Bay City. Our club was asked for 4 pillow cases. Motion made by Mrs. Corse, seconded by Mrs. Pierce, that the Club buy the material, make these pillow cases and send them in. Carried.

Motion made by Mrs. Liggett, seconded by Mrs. Pierce, that $5.00 that was supposed to be paid to the Federation be applied to the $8.00 that we already have for curtain money. Carried. Motion made by Mrs. Sims, seconded by Mrs. Clapp, that Mrs. King be chairman of the committee to get the curtains. Mrs. Pierce and Mrs. Liggett were appointed to serve with her. Carried.

Motion made by Mrs. Pierce, seconded by Mrs. Holsworth, that we would not invite the teacher association down for an oyster supper. Carried.

Motion made by Mrs. Pierce, seconded by Mrs. Clapp, that we entertain the teachers at our Christmas Program in Dec. Carried.

Mrs. Corse was authorized to buy the material for the pillow cases.

No further business, the meeting was turned over to Mrs. Nelson, leader of program. Subj: Fire Prevention.

The meeting adjourned to meet with Mrs. Liggett in Nov. Delicious refreshments was served by the hostess.

Nov. 11, 1926

The regular meeting of the Collegeport Woman’s Club met at the home of Mrs. Liggett on the afternoon of Nov. 11.  10 members & 3 visitors present.

Meeting was called to order by the Vice Pres.

Minutes of last meeting read and accepted.

Treas. report was read and accepted.

Motion made by Mrs. Nelson, seconded by Mrs. Janes, the bill of $1.56 for pillows be accepted. Carried.

Mrs. Nelson reported she had sent some bandages to school.

After some discussion, it was decided a cot was needed at the schoolhouse. Mrs. Goff gave a cot from…

The motion was made by Mrs. Liggett, seconded by Mrs. Nelson, that we get canvas to fix the cot with. Carried.

Mrs. Nelson & Mrs. Janes were appointed delegates to the Federation to be held at Wadsworth in December.

No further business, the meeting was turned over to Mrs. Goff, leader of the program. A very interesting Thanksgiving program was given.

Dec. 9, 1926

The regular meeting of the Collegeport Woman’s Club met at the home of Mrs. Carl Boeker on the afternoon of Dec. 9.

The meeting was called to order by the President.

Minutes of last meeting read and approved.

Treas. report was read. The motion made by Mrs. Clapp, seconded by Mrs. Liggett, this report be accepted. Carried.

This was the time for election of officers. As no nominating committee had been appointed, the nominations were made from the floor.

Mrs. Corse nominated Mrs. King for Pres. Motion made by Mrs. Chapin, seconded by Mrs. Corse, the nomination be closed. Motion was made by Mrs. Corse, seconded by Mrs. Clapp, that the secy cast the deciding vote for the pres. Mrs. King.

On motion made by Mrs. Corse, seconded by Mrs. Clapp, Mrs. Liggett was elected Vice Pres.

On motion made by Mrs. Corse, seconded by Mrs. Boeker, Mrs. Chapin was elected Secy.

On motion made by Mrs. Liggett, seconded by Mrs. Clapp, Mrs. Corse was elected Treas.

No further business, the program for the afternoon, under the leadership of Mrs. Boeker, was carried out.

Delicious refreshments were served by the hostess.

The meeting adjourned to meet with Mrs. Janes in Jan.

Secy Annual Report 1926 -
January 14, 1927

Given at the annual meeting held on January 14, 1927

This report covers the work accomplished by the Collegeport Woman’s Club from the date of the last annual meeting which was held on Jan. 14, 1926.

Number of regular meetings held 11.

Number of advisory board meetings 1.

Total attendance at the 11 meetings – 130.

Special work accomplished as follows:
Gave five dollars toward building the stage in the community house.
Gave six dollars to the Federation for scholarship fund.
Bought the material and did the decorating for the graduating class.
Bought paint and had library painted.
Made 4 pillow cases for the county health nurse (at her request)
Gave five dollars toward buying a curtain for the stage at the Community House.
Bought medicine for the school and the school committee so that the teachers were well supplied with bandages.
Sold ice cream & soda pop on May 25. Cleared $30. Thirty dollars.
Appointed a Parliamentarian to enforce the parliamentary laws.
A miscellaneous program was planned for the New Year and the following subjs have been presented: Study of Sicily, Study of Hawaiian Islands, Parliamentary Laws, Fire Prevention, Thanksgiving , Christmas.

Our Club entertained the County Federation. Our members have attended the Federation meeting when possible.

Our club finances are not in a flourishing condition, but all bills have been paid and the treasury not quite empty.

We have up to date 16 paid up members.

It is to be hoped that our members will rally, do better work, be more interested in securing members and attending the meetings during the coming year.

The advisory board met at the home of Mrs. King on the afternoon of Jan. 18.

The meeting was called to order by the Pres. Those present were: Mrs. Crane, Liggett, Corse, King, Holsworth, Chapin, Nelson.

Motion made by Mrs. Corse, seconded by Mrs. Liggett that Mrs. Crane act as chairman of the Library Committee. Carried.

Mrs. Sims was nominated chairman of the Civic Committee. Mrs. Boeker was appointed to serve with her.

Motion made by Mrs. Corse, seconded, by Mrs. Liggett, Mrs. Clapp act as chairman of the Program Committee. Carried.

Motion made by Mrs. Corse, seconded by Mrs. Holsworth, Mrs. Riley act as chairman of the Social Committee. Carried.

Mrs. Nelson & Mrs. Holsworth appointed to serve with Mrs. Riley.

Motion made by Mrs. Nelson, seconded by Mrs. Holsworth, Mrs. Goff act as chairman of the School Committee. Carried.

Treasurer’s annual report was read. Motion made by Mrs. Clapp, seconded by Mrs. Nelson, this report be accepted. Carried.

Library Committee gave a good report.

Advisory board report was read.

Mrs. King read a letter from Mrs. E. J. Howard, Secy of the County Federation.

Some time was taken up in the discussion of beautifying the Library ground.

The annual reception was left up to the social & finance committee to announce the time later.

March 10, 1927

The regular meeting of the Collegeport Woman’s Club met at the home of Mrs. Tom Hale on the afternoon of March 10.  14 members & 5 visitors present.

Meeting was called to order by the Pres. Minutes of the last meeting read and accepted.

Library committee gave report.

Social and finance committee reported that the reception bill was $2.00. Motion made by Mrs. Liggett, seconded by Mrs. Clapp, this bill be allowed. Carried.

Chairman of the program committee read the program that had been made out for the coming year.

Chairman of civic committee gave a report. It was decided that all the ladies should work at the library grounds on Wed. 16.

Mrs. Liggett reported that the school board would let us connect a water pipe on to the school water pipes for the library grounds.

The Pres. appointed Mrs. Janes parliamentarian.

Mrs. Heisey was appointed chairman of the membership committee.

Motion made by Mrs. Sims, seconded by Mrs. Liggett that we pay five dollars toward helping the Union pay for the tables in the Community House. Carried.

Motion made by Mrs. Corse, seconded by Mrs. Clapp, that Mrs. King be our delegate to the next Federation. Secy took the chair, the motion carried.

Motion made by Mrs. Clapp, seconded by Mrs. Boeker, that Mrs. Hale be alternate. Carried.

Motion made by Mrs. Corse, seconded by Mrs. Janes, that if neither delegate could go, the president appoint someone. Carried.

A letter from the new Federation president, Mrs. Pierce, was read.

No further business the meeting was turned over to Mrs. Hale.

Mrs. Goff had charge of the program. She took us for a trip around the world which was very interesting.

Delicious refreshments were served.

The meeting adjourned to meet with Mrs. Janes.

April 14, 1927

The regular meeting of the Collegeport Woman’s Club met at the home of Mrs. Paul Janes on the afternoon by April 14.  11 members present

Meeting was called to order by the Pres. Minutes of the last meeting read and approved.

Mrs. King, our Federation delegate, gave a fine report of the meeting held at Markham.

Civic Committee reported that not much work had been done, but now that the water was piped on the ground in hopes they could get some flowers out.

Motion made by Mrs. Heisey, seconded by Mrs. Janes, the Club send a vote of thanks to the League for piping the water to the library grounds. Carried.

Mrs. Carl Boeker was appointed chairman of the art committee.

Motion made by Mrs. Corse, made by Mrs. Sims, we pay the $1.80 to the Federation for our part on buying the life membership to the P. T. A. for our former Pres. Mrs. Sterne. Carried.

Mrs. Riley resigned as chairman of the social committee and after some discussion it was decided that Mrs. Sims and Mrs. Janes were to give a social of some kind.

No further business, the meeting was turned over to Mrs. Sims leader of program. Subj: Law and Law Breakers, which was very interesting.

The meeting adjourned to meet with Mrs. Sims in May.

May 12, 1927

The regular meeting of the Collegeport Woman’s Club met at the home of Mrs. S. B. Sims on the afternoon of May 12.  15 members & 10? visitors present. Minutes of last meeting was read and approved.

The report read and accepted.

Civic committee reported.

Mrs. John Ackerman’s name was presented for membership. Carried.

Mrs. W. S. Wright renewed her membership.

Motion made by Mrs. Sims, seconded by Mrs. Corse, the ladies sell ice cream & pop May 25. Carried.

Mrs. Liggett appointed chairman of the dinner committee.

Mrs. Liggett appointed delegate for the County Federation at Matagorda.

No further business, the meeting was turned over to Mrs. Chapin, leader of program. Subj: Mother’s Day.

The meeting adjourned to meet with Mrs. Ackerman in June.

June 9, 1927

The regular meeting of the Collegeport Woman’s Club met at the home of Mrs. John Ackerman on the afternoon of June 9.  15 minutes and five visitor present

The meeting was called to order by the Pres.

Minutes of last meeting read and accepted.

Pres. reported $9.36 was made selling soda pop & cream May 25.

Health Committee reported 9 children had been examined by the nurse May 17.

Civic Committee reported.

Letter read from the Collegeport Industrial League.

Motion made by Mr. Sims, seconded by Mrs. Clapp we serve supper for the B. C. Chamber of Commerce when they have the good will meeting. Carried.

Mrs. Boeker was appointed chairmen of the supper committee.

Mrs. Liggett gave a good report of the County Federation meeting that was held in Gulf.

Meeting was turned over to Mrs. Boeker, leader of program. Subj: Good Language.

Delicious refreshments were served. The meeting adjourned to meet with Mrs. King in July.

July 14, 1927

The regular meeting of the Woman’s Club met at the home of Mrs. Frank King on the afternoon of July 14.  12 members & 3 visitors present.

Meeting was called to order by the Pres.

There was no secy or treas report.

No Committees to report.

Chairman of the Art Committee read a letter from Mrs. Arnold asking us to cooperate with her and offer any suggestions that we might have in order to put this art exhibit on at the County Federation meetings.

After some discussion, it was decided that we would not try to put a play on until after the “Good Will” meeting of the Bay City Chamber of Commerce.

Motion made by Mrs. Liggett, seconded by Mrs. Boeker, that we extend a vote of thanks to the Fig Orchard Co. for the work they did on the library ground. Carried.

Delicious refreshments were served.

August 11, 1927

The Collegeport Woman’s Club met in regular session. Called to order by the President Mrs. King at the home of Mrs. Crane.  There were eight members present & 4 visitors

Mrs. Sims gave a report on the work done on the library grounds. She also said we need a hose badly.

Motion made by Mrs. Clapp, seconded by Mrs. Sims, that we pay $10.00 to the scholarship fund for the coming school year. Carried.

Motion made by Mrs. Nelson, seconded by Mrs. Sims that we have some kind of entertainment with program & with refreshments to raise money. Mrs. Crane was appointed chairman of the entertainment and Mrs. Nelson chairman of the refreshments. Each one to select her own committee.

Mrs. Sims was elected delegate to the Federation meeting. Mrs. King alternate.

Mrs. Chapin sent in her resignation as Sec’y as she has left town to reside.

Motion was made by Mrs. Corse, seconded by Mrs. Sims, that we accept her resignation. Carried.

Mrs. Sims was elected Secy.

Mrs. Ash, who has recently come here from Ill. to reside, was present as a guest, and was made a member of our club.

There being no further  business, the meeting was turned over to Mrs. Clapp, who had the program for the afternoon. Mrs. Clapp read an article written by Mrs. Van Ness, a former member of the Club. The subject: Hymns and their origins. Several of the hymns were played by Dorothy Crane and the members sang them. It was a very interesting and enjoyable program.

After the Club adjourned, ice cream and cake was served.

Mrs. Liggett has charge of the next program and the meeting place was to be decided on later.

Oct. 13, 1927

The Woman’s Club met in regular session at the home of Mrs. Nelson.

Mrs. Sims gave a report on the Federation meeting held at Gulf in Sept.

November 10, 1927

The Woman’s Club met in regular session at the home of Mrs. Corse. Meeting called to order by Pres. Mrs. King. Minutes of previous meeting read and approved. Treasurer’s report approved.

Mrs. King gave a report on the cost of Community House curtain, showing $36.80 spent, leaving a balance of $3.70 from the fund of $40.50 raised for the purpose of providing the curtain.

Mrs. Holsworth moved the balance be returned to the treasury, seconded by Mrs. Sims. Motion carried.

Mrs. Holsworth moved, Mrs. Clapp seconded, that Mrs. Nelson act for Club on the Community Equipment Committee. Motion carried. Mrs. Nelson was duly instructed to notify the aforesaid committee of the decision of Woman’s Club to provide 100 glasses for Community House.

Mrs. Corse was instructed to pay Federation dues.

Mrs. Holsworth moved, Mrs. Nelson seconded, Mrs. Corse be delegate to County Federation. Motion carried.

Mrs. O. C. Arnold, Federation art chairman, sent work thru Mrs. Nelson that all articles for exhibition should be sent to Mrs. Abel Pierce of Blessing, at least two days in advance of Federation meeting.

No further business, the program was given by Mrs. Corse who read two interesting papers on “War Mothers” and Thanksgiving. Both were interesting and instructive.

given at the annual meeting held Jan. 1928

This report covers the work accomplished by the Woman’s Club from the date of last annual meeting.

The officers were all re-elected except the Vice Pres. Mrs. Liggett was elected to the office. All officers have served during the year except Mrs. Chapin, who resigned as she was leaving town. Mrs. S. B. Sims was elected to fill the office.

Special work accomplished as follows:
Paid 5 dollars toward building tables in the Community House
Paid $1.80 to the Federation for our part on buying the life membership to the P. T. A. for our former [Federation] Pres. Mrs. Stern.
Sold ice cream & pop May 25. Cleared a neat little sum.
Put on a play which brought $25.33. (Had our annual Valentine reception at Mrs. Holsworth’s.)
Bought 100 glasses for the Community House.

January 12, 1928

The regular meeting of the Woman’s Club met at the home of Mrs. John Carrick on the afternoon of Jan. 12.  13 members & 4 visitors present.

The meeting was called to order by the Pres., Mrs. King.

Mrs. Chapin appointed Secy pro tem.

Minutes of last meeting and with the exception of one correction, they were approved.

Treasurer’s yearly report was given. Balance in treasury $26.53. Motion made by Mrs. Nelson, seconded by Mrs. Liggett, the report be accepted. Carried.

Librarian gave a fine yearly report. Over 1000 books had been let out and 14 new books been given.

Civic report.

Mrs. King, President, gave in her resignation. Mrs. Liggett Vice Pres. took the chair. Motion made by Mrs. Holsworth, seconded by Mrs. Nelson, that we accept the resignation. Carried.

Motion made by Mrs. Clapp, seconded by Mrs. Holsworth. The V. Pres., Mrs. Liggett, act as pres. for the coming year. Carried.

Motion made by Mrs. Holsworth, seconded by Mrs. Clapp, that Mrs. Chapin fill the Secy place for the following year. As Mrs. Sims, former secy has left town to reside. Carried.

Mrs. Clapp nominated Mrs. Nelson for Vice Pres. Mrs. Heisey nominated Mrs. Clapp for same. Motion made by Mrs. Holsworth, seconded by Mrs. Liggett, the nominations be closed. Carried. Mrs. Clapp elected.

Motion made by Mrs. Holsworth, seconded by Mrs. Clapp, the Club pay $5.00 to the Biennial fund. Carried.

Mrs. Corse gave a fine report of the County Fed. meeting held at Blessing in Dec.

Jan. 25, 1928

The Executive Board meeting of the Woman’s Club met at the home of Mrs. Liggett on the afternoon of Jan. 25.

Meeting called to order by pres. Those present were Mrs. Liggett, Boeker, Clapp, King, Corse, Crane, Ackerman & Chapin.

Motion made by Mrs. Boeker, seconded by Mrs. Clapp, Mr. Phelps be given complete control of the library grounds. Carried. Mrs. Boeker was appointed to tell Mr. Phelps.

The Secy was instructed to write Mrs. G. A. Moore, chairman of the Publicity Committee of Federated Clubs and give her the names of our officers.

Mrs. Boeker was appointed chairman of the social & finance committee.

Motion made by Mrs. Corse, seconded by Mrs. Boeker, that the secy write a vote of thanks to the League from the Club & Union for stove & bowls.

Motion made by Mrs. Clapp, seconded by Mrs. Boeker, that we have an annual Valentine reception at Mrs. Holsworth’s Tuesday night Feb. 14. Carried.

After a short discussion it was decided not to have any more showers at our regular meetings.
 


Feb. 14, 1928

A short business meeting was held after the Valentine’s reception.

Motion made by Mrs. Corse, seconded by Mrs. Clapp, that Mrs. Liggett act as representative from the Club on the Community House board.

Secy took the chair, motion carried.

Mrs. Boeker was elected delegate to the County Federation to be held at Bay City in March. Mrs. Ackerman alternate.

Motion made by Mrs. Nelson the Secy draw an order on the treasurer to pay the bills of the party. Carried.

Motion made by Mrs. Clapp, seconded by Mrs. Corse, that we extend a vote of thanks to the committee and hostess for the evening’s entertainment. Carried.

The regular meeting of the Woman’s Club met at the home of Mrs. Chapin March 8.  11 members present

The meeting was called to order by the pres. Minutes of last meeting approved.

The Secy annual report was read. Motion made by Mrs. Clapp, seconded by Mrs. Nelson the report be accepted. Carried.

Treasurer report was given $20.48 in treasury. Motion made by Mrs. Nelson, seconded by Mrs. Clapp, the report be accepted. Carried.

Letter from Mrs. J. H. Barber was read about Better Homes in America.

After some discussion the motion was made by Mrs. Corse, seconded by Mrs. Clapp the chairman of the library committee make out a list of books needed at the library. Carried.

No further business, the meeting adjourned to meet with Mrs. Ackerman in April.

A very interesting program on Scientific Achievements was carried out by the leader Mrs. Liggett.

Mrs. Clapp gave a talk on Texas missions for the Roll Call.

The regular meeting of the Woman’s Club met at the home of Mrs. Ackerman April 12.  10 members present

The meeting was called to order by the Pres.

Minutes of last meeting read and with the exception of one correction, they stood approved.

Mrs. M. L. Smith’s name was presented for membership. Motion made by Mrs. Clapp, seconded by Mrs. Nelson, the name be accepted. Carried.

A letter was read from Mr. Jones, Better Homes in America. It was decided we would not take up this work.

Mrs. Ackerman our delegate gave a good report of the Federation meeting which was held in Bay City.

Motion made by Mrs. Holsworth, seconded by Mrs. Clapp. The Secy to find out what is expected of our Club in this fine Club. Carried.

Mrs. Boeker had the program on A. Trip to Washington D. C, but by request of the General Federation, the program was changed to Thomas Jefferson.

Mrs. Clapp read an article on Thomas Jefferson Proclamation of Liberty.

Mrs. Corse recommendation by the U. S. Commission to the present Congress of the U. S.

The regular meeting of the Club met at the home of Mrs. Holsworth on the afternoon of May 10.  8 members present

The meeting was called to order by the pres.

Minutes of last meeting red and approved.

No treasurer’s report.

It was reported that some children in the vicinity were in need of medical attention.

The motion was made by Mrs. Holsworth and seconded by Mrs. Nelson, that the Club assume the possibility of these children. Carried.

Motion made by Mrs. Luce, seconded by Mrs. Ackerman, that the Club pay the decoration bill of the Graduating Class. Carried.

Motion made by Mrs. Chapin, seconded by Mrs. Nelson, the ladies sell cream & pop Collegeport Day. Carried.

Mrs. Liggett was nominated for delegate for Co. Fed. at Palacios. Secy took the chair. Carried. Mrs. Smith was nominated for alternate. Carried.

No further business, the meeting adjourned. There was no program as the leader was absent, but a social hour was enjoyed with a shower for Miss Thompson, bride.

June 14, 1928

The regular meeting of the Woman’s Club met at the home of Mrs. Chapin. Mrs. Luce hostess, on the afternoon of June 14.  11 present & 2 visitors

Minutes of last meeting were read and after some discussion were approved.

Motion made by Mrs. Clapp, seconded by Mrs. Holsworth, the treasurer’s report be accepted. Carried.

Mrs. Crane, librarian, reported that she had her list made out for the new books and asked the Club about ordering “The Conqueror,” a book she had been asked to get. The motion was made by Mrs. Holsworth, seconded by Mrs. Corse to wait until the copyright had been taken off. Carried.

Mr. Boeker gave report of the ice cream sold Collegeport Day. Motion was made & carried that this report be accepted.

A bill of $1.35 & one of $1.95 was presented. This was for medicine used in the free clinic work. Motion made by Mrs. Holsworth, seconded by Mrs. Clapp, the bills be paid. Carried.

Motion made by Mrs. Boeker, seconded by Mrs. Smith, the Woman’s Club serve the Father and Son Banquet. Carried.

Motion made by Mrs. Clapp, seconded by Mrs. Ackerman that the Pres. act as general manager of the banquet. Secy took the chair. Motion carried.

Mrs. Boeker was appointed chairman of table decorating and etc.

The meeting was turned over to Miss Wainner who gave us a very interesting program on Texas.

The meeting adjourned to meet with Mrs. Boeker in July.

After some discussion, motion was made by Mrs. Nelson, seconded by Mrs. Clapp, the Club send five dollars to Mrs. Pollard for the new scholarship fund, and five dollars more later on. Carried.

Mrs. Liggett gave a fine report of the Co. Federation held in Palacios.

Mrs. Corse took charge of the program. Subj: Good Citizenship which was very interesting.

A bill was presented by Mr. Heisey for $2.25 for mowing church lawn & library ground.

A bill was presented by Mrs. Liggett for napkins and paper for program. 55¢. Ordered paid.

The Treas. was instructed to pay for 1 gallon of Kerosene and 1 dozen lemons.

Mrs. Nelson made the motion, seconded by Mrs. Holsworth, that Mrs. Corse act as Secy pro tem for the rest of the year. Carried.

Mrs. Liggett reported that Mrs. Crane wished to resign librarian. No action taken on resignation.

Mrs. Liggett and Mrs. Clapp offered to keep the library open the 14th.

Discussion followed in regard to library. It was decided to ask Mrs. King to act as chairman for the rest of the year and different members to help.

Oct. 11, 1928

The regular meeting of the Woman’s Club met at the home of Mrs. Corse.

Mrs. Liggett, the Pres., opened the meeting.

The Secy report was read and approved.

The Treas. report was read and approved.

Mrs. Liggett reported that Mr. Hall had presented to the library, 12 books.

The Secy was instructed to write a note of thanks to Mr. Hall for the books. She did so.

Mrs. Nelson presented a bill of 65 cts for iodine and mentholatum & tape for school use.

The motion made by Mrs. Clapp, seconded by Mrs. Holsworth, that this bill be paid. Motion carried.

This finished the business session, the meeting continued to the program committee. Mrs. Luce was to have had program on Fire Prevention, but as she is away, and no provision had been made, we omitted that part of the program. We had asked one on Texas history led by Mrs. Corse.

Mrs. Smith read an article about one of the first ____ & Mrs. Clapp on school. This proved to be very interesting.

There were 7 numbers and 3 visitors present. One of the visitors being Mrs. B. D. Hurd of Chicago, Ill.

Mrs. Hurd was the 1st Pres. of this club, which was organized at her home on the afternoon of May 19, 1910. There were 26 ladies present at the meeting.

Dec. 20th, 1928

The Collegeport Woman’s Club met in regular session at Mrs. Boekers.  9 members present.

The meeting was called to order by the Pres., Mrs. Liggett. The Secy report read & approved.

Some remarks were made in regard to Mrs. Heisey not being a member the past year, and we do not want that she should give up the club. The motion was made by Mrs. King, seconded by Mrs. Nelson, that we present Mrs. Heisey with a life membership to be given as a Christmas present. Motion carried.

Mrs. Smith gave the report of the nominating commit as follows.

The committee had a very pretty tree and there was a present for every one present. The only thing to mar our enjoyment was the absence of our hostess, Mrs. Boeker, who left for Ill. this morning, but as she had planned to entertain the club, left her home open in charge of Mrs. King, Smith & Ackerman.

There have been 12 meetings in the past year.

One executive meeting.

There has been a good attendance to all these meetings.

Mrs. King resigned as Pres. and Mrs. Liggett took her place.

In the evening of Feb. 14, there was a party at Mrs. Holsworth’s when the guests men was invited.

We have bought 4 dozen tumblers for the Community House. Paid $5 toward the lights.

Bought $20.30 worth of books. 36 new – 14 donation
Entertained the County Federation in Sept. 1 came – no one came
Paid $5.00 on scholarship fund.
Paid $3.25 for medicine for charity.
Sponsored the Father & Son banquet.

The total number of members this past year – 16.
Three have moved away, so at present time we have only 13 members.

Motion made and seconded that be paid, and Sec. to draw an order on treas. for same. Carried.

The matter of helping the school purchase the “Cup,” to be given to the Interscholastic League, to replace the one held by Collegeport School, as won by said school three years in succession, was presented for consideration.

Motion made by Mrs. Clapp, seconded by Mrs. Nelson, that the Club help in purchasing this Cup. After a little consideration, an amendment to stated motion was made and Sec. by the above parties, to read that, the Club help to the extent of $5.00 in purchasing the Cup. Motion carried.

Motion made by Mrs. Smith, seconded by Mrs. Boeker, that the Pres. appoint a committee to confer with the school faculty regarding the purchasing of the Cup. Carried.

Pres. appointed the following committee: Mrs. Holsworth, Mrs. Liggett, Mrs. Smith.

Pres. announced the Mar. meeting of the County Federation to be held in Markham. Mrs. Liggett was appointed delegate to this meeting with Mrs. King an alternate.

Meeting adjourned to meet with Mrs. Liggett in March.

A very fine time was enjoyed by all at the Valentine Party.

Meeting called to order by Pres., Mrs. Corse.

Reading of minutes of previous meeting. Approved and accepted.

Treas. report read near the latter part of business meeting.

Report of committee: Mrs. Liggett, chairman of the “Cup” (Interscholastic League) reported the Cup purchased by Mrs. Holsworth and at that time in Miss Baird’s possession.

Mrs. Smith, chairman of program committee, reported the programs planned for the year and a number of copies them in the hands of some of the members, and all to be provided with a copy as soon as copies were ready.

The matter of materials needed at the Library for repair work and other needs, was presented by Mrs. Corse, and a motion was made by Mrs. Clapp, seconded by Mrs. Boeker, that $5.00 be given the Librarian, Mrs. King, for this purpose. Motion carried.

Motion made by Mrs. Boeker, seconded by Mrs. Clapp, that the Woman’s Club endorse the movement of retaining the County Nurse. Carried.

We were pleased to have as our guest, Miss Mayfield, County Nurse. She presented the work of the “Summer Round Up” of children preschool age for physical examinations.

Secretary was instructed to order the necessary materials for this work.

Miss Mayfield complimented our Club very highly on our attendance and nature of programs.

Report of Sec. read and accepted as read.

Discussion as to paying for Interscholastic Cup was taken up. Motion by Mrs. King, seconded by Mrs. Nelson, that the Club pay half of the sum total cost which made $3.70, as paid by the Club. Motion carried.

The name of Mrs. Gould and Mrs. Penland were presented for membership. On motion made by Mrs. Clapp, and duly seconded, these ladies were unanimously accepted as members.

Treas. absent until later in the meeting.

No committees to report, no bills or communications.

Discussion of Club serving ice-cream on Collegeport Day was taken up. Motion by Mrs. Clapp, seconded by Mrs. Heisey, that the matter be left in the hands of Social & Finance Committee. Motion carried.

Matter of “Mother’s Day” program was presented by Mrs. Smith, and after due consideration, the motion was made by Mrs. Boeker, seconded by Mrs. Clapp that Mrs. Smith be appointed to take charge of the program. Motion carried. Mrs. Smith then requested each Club Member to come prepared to respond to Roll Call with “Mother’s Day Poem.”

Meeting of June 13, 29

Meeting called in regular business session by Pres.

Mrs. Corse, Sec. Report of previous meeting read and accepted.

In Treas. report, a bill of $9.75 on the ice-cream sold on Collegeport Day was presented. On motion made by Mrs. Clapp, seconded by Mrs. Holsworth, this bill was allowed and voted paid.

Librarian Mrs. King gave a very fine report as to books used during the past two months. Repairs to the amount of $5.42 had been purchased and in use in the library. After presenting the need of further supplies by library, the motion was made by Mrs. Clapp, seconded by Mrs. Holsworth, that Mrs. King be given $5.00 more for the needed supplies. Motion carried.

The Pres. then made several appointments on various committees which are as follows:

An announcement by Mrs. Liggett of the gift of an ice-cream dipper having been presented to the various women’s organization, by Mr. Hall, a motion was made by Mrs. Holsworth, seconded, that a vote of thanks be given Mr. Hall for his donation. Motion carried.

The matter of our Club taking up the sale of embroidery articles as presented in a proposition for a “Novelty Shop’ in Randolph Neb., was discussed, and the motion was made by Mrs. Smith, seconded by Mrs. Holsworth that we accept proposition, and carried.

Pres. instructed Sec. to write to order for same.

Report of County Federation meeting, held at Matagorda, was given in part by Mrs. Smith, a full written report to be given at later date.

Meeting called to order by Pres. Mrs. Corse.

Sec. report read and accepted with one correction.

Treas. reported $8.70 in Treas.

Mrs. Nelson, chairman of School Committee, reported articles needed by school. Motion made, seconded and carried that Mrs. Nelson purchase said articles and present bill to Treas.

County Federation meeting reported to meet at Gulf Sat. Sept. 14.

Mrs. Nelson was first nominated as delegate to the Co. Fed meeting, but did not care to, so a motion by Mrs. Liggett, seconded by Mrs. Crane, that Mrs. Corse act as a delegate, unanimously elected Mrs. Corse delegate.

Mrs. Corse presented the matter of having the library grounds cleared off, and a motion was made by Mrs. Liggett, seconded by Mrs. Nelson, that Mrs. Corse be instructed to see Mr. Dellabetta about doing the work and be authorized to pay to the extent of $3.00 for the work. Motion carried.

Motion made by Mrs. Clapp, seconded by Mrs. Liggett, that the Club make their contribution toward the Community House Fund, as soon as funds were available. Motion carried.

7 members present, 1 visitor, Mrs. Harbison who very willingly took part on the program in the absence of the member assigned.

It is hoped she will decide to become a member of our Club soon.

Two of our teachers, viz, Mrs. Jones & Miss Franzen, were guests at the later part of the afternoon.

Sec. report was read and accepted with one correction.

Treas. reported bills paid and $18.70 balance in bank.

Mrs. Corse reported a letter received from Mrs. Hurd expressing her desire to be revisited so an active member of the Club, and enclosed $10.00 to pay dues. Sec. was instructed to write Mrs. Hurd an expression of appreciation for same, and extend our cordial welcome to her as a reinstated member of our Club. Sec. was also instructed to write Mr. Goff and Mr. North Cable words of appreciation from the Club for their work on Library grounds.

To the Industrial League for the movement started by that organization to paint the Library building.

Motion made by Mrs. Clapp, seconded by Mrs. Holsworth, that we accept the offer of the League, and the color of building to be white was the unanimous vote of the Club.

Motion read by Mrs. King, seconded by Mrs. Clapp, that me pay $5.00 to Community House Fund at this time. Motion carried.

Motion of Mrs. Clapp, seconded by Mrs. Nelson, that Mrs. Boeker be appointed alternate. Motion carried. 11 members present  & 1 visitor.

Treas. was not present, so no annual report of same was given.

Report of County Federation meeting held the early part of Dec. was given by Mrs. Corse, delegate from our Club.

Mrs. Corse gave us a very fine report.

The purpose of the afternoon was in the form of a Christmas party, was conducted by Mrs. King.

Program consisted of readings & poems on the Subject of Christmas.
A contest in the nature of guessing advertisements was the closing feature of the program
1st honors was won by Mrs. Harbison
2nd prizes by Mrs. Corse & Mrs. Liggett.

The plan of exchanging Christmas gifts among Club members was followed as in former years.

Delicious and bountiful refreshments were served by Mrs. Boeker as hostess.

Meeting adjourned to meet with Mrs. Harbison in Jan.
