Newell Eliza Kent Mrs. Newell Eliza Kent, 69, died at her home here Tuesday evening about 7:20. Mrs. Kent, the mother of Mrs. W. R. Horn of this city, had been a resident of the city for 35 years, she and Mr. Kent moving here from Chambers County in 1906 where Mr. Kent engaged in rice farming, almost one of the first rice farmers in the county. Mr. Kent died in 1918. Mrs. Kent’s death came suddenly as the result of a heart attack. Besides her daughters, Mrs. W. R. Horn, she is survived by one sister, Mrs. L. W. Roland of Phoenix, Arizona; four brothers, Ed. Crockett of San Benito, Ben Crockett of Laferia, R. B. Crockett of Houston and W. H. Crockett of Shafter. Funeral services, under the direction of Taylor Bros., will be held from the W. R. Horn residence, Thursday afternoon at 3. Interment will be in Cedarvale Cemetery. Kent, whose death occurred at his home on the Elder farm, four miles east of Simpsonville, yesterday morning, took place in Cedarvale Cemetery yesterday afternoon at 7 o’clock in the presence of a number of friends of the family and relatives. Decedent was born in Tennessee in 1869 and moved to Texas when about 18 years of age. A few years later he married Miss Newell Crockett, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Davy Crockett, for many years well known citizen of this county. Mr. Kent has been engaged in rice farming for a number of years and at the time of his death was engaged in this business on the W. H. Ramsey farm. He leaves the wife and one daughter, Mrs. W. R. Horn Jr., to whom is extended the heartfelt sympathy of their many friends and acquaintances. Mr. Kent’s death was very sudden, he having been ill for only about three hours. The day before he was in Bay City and transacted business, of which some was the paying of his taxes.
