Florence Evelyn White was born to James White [1848-1931] and Elizabeth Ann Galbreath [1848-1926] in Texas. [Most likely Milam. The family seems to be from these parts]. Her death Certificate says she was born on 4 Mar 1869. Most other sources say Mar 1872. Not sure of the truth of which is right. She married John Edward Martin [1847-1929] on 17 Jun 1888 in Milam, Texas. The marriage docs say her name was Florence D. White, but that is the only place that does. I only ever heard her called Florence Evelyn. Their children were: Karl Elmer Martin [1889-1953]; Ernest Lenwood Martin [1893-1964]; Eulan Bertha Martin [1894-1956]; William Martin [1898-1950]; Lillian Odell Martin [1903-1966]; and Evelyn Florence Martin [1905-1984]. Florence died 8 Mar 1919 in Bay City. Apoplexy is listed as the cause of death. She is buried at Cedarvale Bay City Cemetery. Sources: NOTE: Ancestry links will only work if you have a subacription. The 1880 Census shows James 31, wife Elizabeth 30, children John 13; Hadley 12; Florence 7; Leon 5; Rosana 3; Izore 5 mos. All living in Milam, Texas. Several days ago a petition was circulated, asking Mayor Sutherland to call an election for a commission form of government for Bay City. The mayor had this petition under advisement, but owing to complications likely to arise due to the city primaries for the nomination of city officers to be held here March 6, a counter petition was presented asking for a postponement of the election until the city election will have been settled. The last petition was liberally signed, many who had signed the first one, realizing the justness of the latter, signing it also. Signed: J. E. Martin

We are indebted to Mr. J. E. Martin, one of the most successful truck growers in this section, for a mess of new Irish potatoes, the first we have seen this season. Mr. Martin took these potatoes from the vines just 48 days from the day he planted them. They are of good size, smooth and fine. He has a fine patch and will be putting them on the market regularly from now on.

Mr. J. E. Martin brought to this office today nine big rosy Irish potatoes dug from his banner city garden. They are as fine as could be wished for and Mr. Martin ways are yielding bountifully.

Mr. J. E. Martin has returned from a visit to relatives in Houston and brought back with him some specimens of very fine pecans, of the Georgia variety. He brought along some choice Caney Valley pecans by way of comparison and the contrast is remarkable.

Mr. J. E. Martin, licensed auctioneer, held a very successful sale yesterday at the Ryman place below Wadsworth. He says a good crowd of buyers was present and the bidding spirited. Mr. Martin holds weekly auctions in the city.
