F. R. Matthes

The remains of F. R. Matthes, of Ganado, father of Arthur Matthes, of Blessing, were brought here Sunday for interment in the Palacios Cemetery. Funeral services were conducted by the Masons of which order he was a prominent member, and was attended by a large crowd of relatives and friends from adjoining towns.

Mrs. Bertha C. Matthes

Mrs. Bertha C. Matthes, 82, died at the Matagorda General Hospital Thursday evening at 6:35 o’clock.

A resident of Bay City for the past ten years, Mrs. Matthes was the mother of Arthur Raymond Matthes and Dr. Homer Clarence Matthes of Bay City; Frank Edward Matthes of Blessing; Miss Clara Frances Matthes of Houston and Mrs. Clifton Robertson of Dallas.

She is survived also by seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 3 o’clock in the First Methodist Church with the Rev. W. W. Hawthorne officiating.

Burial was made in Palacios Cemetery with Taylor Brothers Funeral Home in charge of funeral arrangements.

Active pallbearers were Roy Williams, Steve Rickaway, Arthur Foster, Paul Braden, Alvin Ross, and Paul Boepple.

She was 82 years, 9 months, and 25 days of age at the time of her death.

Frank Edward Matthes, Sr.

Frank Edward Matthes, Sr., 85, of Blessing, died Sept. 3, 1975, in the Matagorda General Hospital. He was born Aug. 16, 1890, in New Frankfort, Missouri, to Fred Richard and Bertha Charlotte (Suppe) Matthes.

Survivors include: his widow, Corabelle Matthes of Blessing, Texas, ; daughters, Verna Marie King of Markham, Texas, Betty Gene Thornton of Timpson, Texas, and Mildred Payne of Baytown, Texas,; son, Frank Edward Matthes, Jr. of Bay City, Texas,; sister, Edna Matthes of Houston, Texas; brothers, Dr. H. C. Matthes of Bay City, Texas, and A.R. Matthes of Blessing, Texas; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Sept. 5, at Taylor Bros. Chapel with the Rev. Warren Hornung officiating. Interment service was held at the Hawley Cemetery. Pallbearers were Dr. Russell Matthes, Dr. Fred Matthes, Jim, Doug, Mike, and Pat Matthes.

Corabelle Matthes

Funeral services for Mrs. Corabelle Matthes, 86, of Blessing will be held 4 p. m. Wednesday at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Frank Seaman officiating. Burial will be in Hawley Cemetery.

Mrs. Matthes was born March 18, 1897, in Birmingham, Ala., and died Feb. 26, 1984 at Bay Villa Nursing Home.

Survivors include: daughter, Mildred Irene Payne of Baytown; stepdaughter, Betty Thornton of Timpson; stepson, F. E. Matthes, Jr., of Bay City; grandson, Ben C. Payne; stepgrandsons, Dr. Carl King and Charles Matthes; five stepgranddaughters, Linda Wing, Karen Harris, Dawn Inman, Fay Gilzow and Velma Greer; 14 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Mrs. Matthes was a member of the Methodist church and a resident of Matagorda County since 1930.

Pallbearers include Dr. Carl King, Syd Gilzow Pat, Douglas, and Jim Matthes and Arthur Foster.

Funeral arrangements were made with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home.

Clara Frances Matthes

Clara Frances Matthes, 80, was interred in the Palacios Cemetery Friday afternoon following funeral services held at 2:30 p. m. in Bay City with the Rev. James Thompson officiating. She passed away in the Matagorda House in Bay City Thursday, March 27.

She was a member of the Methodist Church, life member of the American Dietetic and the Texas Dietetic Associations, charter member of both Texas Dietetic and South Texas Dietetic Association.

She had taught ten years in the public schools of Texas, was Chief Dietitian for 12 years at John Sealy Hospital in Galveston and Director of Dietetics for 21 years at Memorial Hospital in Houston. She retired November 1963.

Survivors include her sister, Edna Matthes of Houston; brothers, F. E. Matthes Sr. and A. R. Matthes of Blessing and Dr. H. C. Matthes of Bay City.

Edna Leta Matthes

A memorial service for Edna Leta Matthes, 84, of Houston will be held 2 p. m. Sunday at First United Methodist chapel, Avenue G, with the Rev. W. E. Dugger Jr. officiating.

Mrs. Matthes was born Aug. 22, 1904, in Missouri to Fred and Bertha Suppe Matthes and died Jan. 13, 1989 at her residence.

She was a member of the Methodist Church.

Survivors include a brother, Dr. H. C. Matthes of Bay City; a sister-in-law, Ruth Matthes of Bay City; three nephews, Dr. Russell Matthes, Dr. Fred Matthes and Edward Matthes of Bay City; and a niece, Betty Thornton.

Services are under the direction of Dick R. Elkins, Bay City Funeral Home.

Howard Matthes

Funeral services were held at the Palacios Funeral Home Friday afternoon at 4:30 o’clock for Howard Matthes, Rev. J. E. Mack officiating. Burial was in the Palacios Cemetery under the direction of Taylor Brothers of Bay City. Mr. Matthes was 29 years of age and died in Midfield, Thursday night, Oct. 3. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Bertha C. Matthes, of Blessing, two sisters, Miss Clara Matthes, of Galveston, Miss Edna Matthes, of Dallas, three brothers, Frank E., Blessing, A. R. of Bay City and Dr. H. C. of Ancon, Panama Canal.
