Odeal January Harrison worked for Adelaide Hall Pierce of Blessing 1931 - 1938 as a laundress. She possibly worked for the family before and after that time, but Nellie Tilson Webb, a "permanent guest" in the Pierce home recorded Odeal's work in her diaries during those years. Nellie did light housework for the Pierce's and Odeal also helped with housekeeping when needed. Monday was wash day in the Pierce Household. Odeal washed for Mrs. Pierce every Monday without fail unless the weather was too rainy or too cold. In the day of no clothes dryers, all of the laundry had to be hung on the clothesline.

Odeal's husband, Granville Pea, also helped out in the Pierce household at various times. On April 29, 1936, he cleaned the chicken houses and the next day cleaned the fish pond and cut weeds. On May 2nd, Nellie noted that Granville was paid $3.00 to haul trash, and work in the chicken yard and fish pond. On May 9th, he also worked a half day cleaning the lawn. He milked the Pierce's cow on July 26, 1936 as recorded in the diary. The Pierce's houseman was out of town and Granville filled in for him.

According to the diary entry on August 11, 1936, Odeal's daughter, Irene January Harrison, assisted her mother with the Pierce's washing and ironing. In later years, Irene was the cook in the Pierce home.

Irene January Harrison
 July 5, 1913 - June 9, 1981
Buried Palacios Cemetery

Wife of
Washington Harrison
(January 15, 1909 - April 8,1986)

Married October 12, 1930?
Matagorda County, Texas

Daughter of
Odeal Hebert January Pea

Odeal's son, Andrew January, was born November 20, 1909 in Orange Co, TX and died October 5, 1970 in Palacios, Matagorda County, Texas. He was buried at Palacios Cemetery. His death certificate indicates date of birth was 1912, but that would be impossible as he was on the 1910 census. According to the death certificate, he had been a resident of Palacios for 23 years and lived at 902 Perryman.

Matagorda County marriage records have a marriage for Andrew January and Odettia Jackson on April 20, 1930, which is puzzling since they are listed as married on the 1930 census. The census enumerator was to record only those in the household as of April 1, 1930. The enumerator reached Andrew's home on April 16th and listed them as married. His occupation was general laborer.

Andrew and Odettia were living on Morton Street in Palacios at the time of the 1940 Census. His occupation was noted as a gas station porter.
