Seaman Second Class Holeis R. Reed United States Navy 03760578 was born January 29, 1926 and died November 25, 1943 when the USS Liscombe Bay CVE 56, an American escort carrier was sunk by torpedoes from the Japanese submarine I-175 (participated in the attack on Pearl Harbor and was sunk on February 4, 1944) near Makin Island in the Gilberts. The aircraft bombs stored in the hold blew up killing 644 men and the Commander. Holeis' body was never recovered and he is memorialized on the Tablets of the Missing at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Honolulu, Hawaii.

 He was the son of Robert Isaac Reed (February 18, 1882 - August 21, 1950) and Fannie Elizabeth (Woodward) Reed (April 7, 1892 - July 19, 1976) who are buried at Cedarvale Cemetery, Bay City, Texas. At the time of his death his family was living in Markham.

Mrs. Fannie Elizabeth Reed, 82, of Markham, died in her home in Markham Monday, July 19, 1976. She was born April 7, 1892 in Aguilla, Texas. She had been a resident of Markham for 31 years and a member of the Methodist Church. She is survived by her two daughters, Mrs. Louise Sefford and Mrs. Mary Evelyn Benton, both of Markham; her son, Clarence Reed of Warich, Rhode Island; two sisters and nine grandchildren. Funeral services will be held in the Taylor Brothers Funeral Home Chapel Thursday, July 22, 1976 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Donald White of St. Paul's Methodist Church officiating. Burial service will be in Cedarvale Cemetery. Arrangements are through Taylor Brothers Funeral Home.

Funeral Services For Robert I. Reed Are Held Here Last Week.

Funeral services for Robert Isaac Reed, 68, were held last week from the Taylor Brothers Funeral Home with burial in the Cedarvale Cemetery.

Reed and Louise Reed of Markham; two sons, Claud and Clarence of Rock Island; one sister, Mrs. Ella Stacey of Aransas Pass; two brothers, Edgar of Bay City and Elmer of West Columbia.
