Obituary

On November 24, 1928, a boy child was born to Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Hudgins II. He joined church at an early age. Later he moved to Palacios and continued his membership there. He departed this life on October 11, 1978.

He leaves to mourn a wife, Mrs. Mytrhle Hudgins, three daughters, Betty Gills of Bay City, Patricia Washington of Palacios, and Barbara Jones of Louisiana, and one son Roland Morgan of Houston. Eight grandchildren, seven stepchildren, three sisters, Mrs. Willie Mae Hughes of Houston, Mrs. Bessie Monroe of Cedar Lane, and Mrs. Stella Tone of Cedar Lane; two brothers, Mack Hudgins of California and Mr. Roosevelt Hudgins of Bay City, Nieces, Nephews, and a host of relatives and friends.

Will T. Hudgins

Denver--Will Thomas "Bull" Hudgins, 64, of Denver, died Saturday, Aug. 27. 2005.

He was born Oct. 31, 1940, in Austin, to the late Kencho and Elizabeth Wiley Hudgins.

Survivors: daughters, Theresa Hudgins of Odessa, Patricia Hudgins of Waras, N. M., and Sharon J. Walker and JoAnn Jackson, both of Denver; son, Marcus Hawkins of Odessa; sister, Helen Thomas of Odessa; brothers, Raydell Hudgins, Leroy Hudgins, Kenchlo "Ann" Hudgins and Rufus Hudgins, all of Odessa; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 10 a. m. - 8 p. m. today at Green's Mortuary chapel.

Services will be 10 a. m. Saturday at Pleasant Green Baptist Church in Cedar Lane, the Reverends Maurice Jones and K. J. Griggs officiating.

Burial will be at Hudgins Bottom Cemetery. Green's Mortuary, Bay City, 979-245-3489.

Blanche Faye Jackson
Nov. 20, 1937 - Dec. 1, 2005

Blanche Faye (Abbott) Jackson was born November 20, 1937, to the late Ollie Abbott and Lena Mae Weldon Abbott in the Hudgins Settlement Community.

She confessed Christ at an early age and was baptized by the Rev. Gus Fitzgerald in Kendleton, Texas.

She attended public school at O.H. Herman High School, Van Vleck, Texas.

She was united in marriage to Thomas Jackson, Sr. on July 8, 1955.

To this lovely reunion they were blessed with eight children.

She departed this life on December 1, 2005, at the Southwest Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, Texas.

She leaves to mourn and cherish special memories of 50 years: her husband, Thomas Jackson Sr.; four sons, Thomas Jackson, Jr. of Bay City, Texas, Carl Jackson of Lake Jackson, Texas, Samuel Jackson of Bay City, Texas, and Larry Jackson of Dallas, Texas; four daughters, Faye M. Jackson of Bay City, Texas, Brenda R. Jackson of Dallas, Texas, Mairrlyn (Joseph) Cross and Jacqueline L. Jackson, of Bay City, Texas; six grandchildren, Layln Jackson, Zkari Jackson, Dominique Mayberry, Andrea Mayberry, Leslie Wyche, Jr., and Daniel Wyche; one sister, Johnnie Mae Brown of Houston; three aunts, Lucille Washington, Lovey Jefferson and Elnora (Henry) Coger; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends; brother-in-law, Eddie H. Allen Sr., of Bay City; sisters-in-law, Alma and Lola Nelson of Chicago, Illinois, Stella Grogan of Houston, Texas, and Lorese (Willie) Goode of Victoria, Texas.

She was preceded in death by: her father, Ollie Abbott, Sr.; her mother, Lena Mae Abbott Edwards; one brother, Ollie Abbott, Jr.; and two sisters, Vernell Virginia Abbott and Lula Mae Burton (“Peggy”).

Funeral service for Blanche F. Jackson, 68, of Bay City, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, December 10, 2005, at Mother Zion Baptist Church, with the Rev. L.K. Williams officiating.

Burial will be in Hudgins Settlement.

Visitation will be from noon until 8 p.m. Friday, December 9, 2005.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m.

Mrs. Jackson will lie in state from noon until 1 p.m. on Saturday at the church.

Bessie Hudgins Monroe

Funeral service for Bessie Hudgins Monroe 70, of Cedar Lane, Texas will be Saturday, March 1, 2003 at 1 p.m. at Pleasant Green Missionary Baptist Church in Cedar Lane with the Rev. Maurice Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Hudgins Cemetery in Hudgins settlement. Visitation will be Friday from 2 until 8 p.m. at Greens Mortuary. Family will receive friends from 7 until 8 p.m. Mrs. Monroe will lie in state at Pleasant Green Baptist Church Saturday from 12 noon until 1 p.m.

Bessie was born to the union of Thomas Hudgins, Jr. and Helen Jones Hudgins on October 19, 1932 in Bay City, Texas. Bessie completed her earthly journey on February 21, 2003 at Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City, Texas.

She is survived by: her daughters and sons-in-law Roberta and Samuel Ellis and Dinah and Douglas Laidlaw of Bay City; three sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth Monroe and Carol, Darryl Monroe and Doris of Bay City, and Lee Monroe Jr. and Sharon of Houston, Texas; 13 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law Willie Lee Hughes and Joe of Houston, Texas; two brothers, Roosevelt Hudgins and Barbara of Cedar Lane, Texas; Mack Hudgins of California; two brothers-in-law, Edward Tone of Cedar Lane, and Kermit Monroe and Ada of Live Oak, Texas; two sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Greer of Bay City and Myrtle Hudgins of Palacios; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lee Monroe Sr. and two sisters and 3 brothers.

Active pallbearers are Demetric Monroe, Leland Monroe, James Hudgins, Jermone Jones, Tedderrian Powell, Tommy Monroe, Christopher Brown, Anthony Hudgins, Tyrone Jones, Odis Hawkins.

Bessie Hudgins Monroe

On October 19, 1932, a daughter was born to Thomas Hudgins, Jr. and Helen Jones Hudgins in Bay City, Texas, whom they named Bessie Hudgins.

She grew up in the community of her birth and attended public school with her siblings, family and friends.

Early in her life, she attended and united with Pleasant Green Baptist Church and remained a faithful member and kept the faith. Even though her health impaired her from attending services, she maintained her trust and belief in God.

In 1954, she was united in Holy Matrimony to Lee Monroe, Sr. and to this union two daughters and three sons were born.

Her earthly journey came to a close on Friday, February 21, 2003 at 8:00 p. m.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Thomas and Helen Hudgins; her husband, Lee Monroe, Sr., two sisters and three brothers.

She leaves many loving memories to her loving daughters, Roberta (Samuel) Ellis and Dinah (Douglas) Laidlaw of Bay City; three sons, Kenneth (Carol), Darryl (Doris) of Bay City, and Lee Jr. (Sharon) of Houston, Texas; thirteen grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; two brothers, Roosevelt (Barbara) Hudgins and Mack Hudgins of California; one sister, Willie Lee (Joe) Hughes of Houston; two brothers-in-law, Edward Tone of Cedar Lane and Kermit (Ada) Monroe of Live Oak; two sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Greer of Bay City and Myrtle Hudgins of Palacios, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Jimmie Scott, Sr.

Funeral services for Jimmie Scott, Sr., 79, of Bay City, will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, January 15, 2005, at First Sacred Memorial Christian Church in Bay City, with the Rev. Terrell Aldridge, eulogist.

Burial will follow at Hudgins Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday from 3 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home chapel.

He was born in the Hudgins Settlement, December 24, 1925, to Nathaniel Scott and Matilda Taylor Scott, and passed away January 7, 2005, in Bay City, Texas.

Survivors include: wife, Luvella Scott; two sons, Jimmie Scott, Jr. and Frank Scott and Brenda, all of Bay City; also four sisters, N.B. Greenwood of Merced, California, Josie Green and Cody Harkless, both of Bay City, and Ollie Harrison of Galveston; one brother, Willie Davis; six grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Active pallbearers will be Gulf Coast Masonic Lodge No. 272, where he served as past Grand Master.

Arrangements are with Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home in Bay City.

Rosanna Sharee Hudgins Thomas

Rosanna Sharee Hudgins Thomas, died March 26, 2003.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 4, 2003, at Pleasant Green Baptist Church, Hudgins Settlement, with Rev. Maurice L. Jones, Pastor, officiating.

On November 29, 1961, a daughter was born to Roosevelt Hudgins and Barbara Ware Hudgins in Bay City, Texas, whom they named Rosanna Sharee Hudgins.

At an early age, she accepted Christ and united with Saint John Baptist Church in Van Vleck, Texas, where she was the pianist and music director for several years. She graduated from high school in Van Vleck, Texas, and later served as musician for several other churches in the local community.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Thomas; two daughters, Setrice Hudgins and Deondra Thomas; two stepsons, Marlin and James Thomas; parents, Roosevelt and Barbara Hudgins; two brothers, Odis Hawkins (Wanda) and Anthony Hudgins (Ivey); one sister, Angie Brockman; maternal grandmother, Odessa Thibodeaux; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

Stellar Hudgins Tone

Funeral services for Stellar Hudgins Tone, 77, of Cedar Lane, will be Saturday, September 14, 2002, at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Green Baptist Church, Hudgins Settlement, with the Rev. Maurice Jones, eulogist. Burial will be in the Hudgins Family Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday until 9 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.

She was born in Bay City, TX, Sunday, October 5, 1924, to Thomas Hudgins, Jr, and Helen Jones Hudgins, and passed away Saturday, September 7, 2002 at the Select-Houston Heights Hospital, Houston, TX.

She was a kind person who will be missed by her family and friends.

Survivors include: her husband of 55 years, Edward Tone of Cedar Lane; three daughters, Mabel Jones of Houston, Mary Ann Tone and Patricia James, both of Bay City; and one son, Walker Hudgins and Lillie of Bay City; two sisters, Bessie Monroe of Bay City, and Willie Lee Hughes and Joe of Houston; two brothers, Mack Hudgins of CA, and Roosevelt Hudgins and Barbara of Bay City; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; four sisters-in-law, Ethel Mae Tone, Veola Tone, Doris Tone, all of Bay City, and Myrtle Hudgins of Palacios; also a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Active pallbearers will be James, Anthony, Patrick and Walker Hudgins, Jr., Tyrone and Jerome Jones.

Stellar Hudgins Tone

On Sunday, October 5, 1924, a daughter was born to Thomas Hudgins, Jr. and Helen Jones Hudgins in Bay City, Texas, whom they named Stellar Hudgins.

She grew up in the community of her birth and attended public school along with her siblings, family and friends.

Early in her life, she attended and united with Pleasant Green Baptist Church and remained a faithful member and kept the faith. Even though her health impaired her from attending services, she maintained her belief in God, because she found out many years ago that God is the source of her life.

She leaves many loving memories to her loving and devoted husband of 55 years, Edward Tone, three daughters, Mabel Jones of Houston, Mary Ann Tone and Patricia James of Bay City, one son, Walker (Lillie) Hudgins, Sr. of Bay City, two step-children, Eddie Jean Turner of Hitchcock and Veree Tone of Churchill, two brothers, Mack Hudgins of California, Roosevelt (Barbara) Hudgins of Bay City, two sisters, Bessie Monroe of Bay City and Wilie Lee (Joe) Hughes of Houston, 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, also five sisters-in-law, Ethel Mae Tone, Veola Tone, Doris Tone and Edna Tone all of Bay City and Myrtle Hudgins of Palacios and a host of relatives and friends.
