Gabrielle Nicole Canales

October 31, 1993 - June 22, 2023

Gabrielle Nicole Canales, known to family and friends as "Gabbie", 29, gained her angel wings June 22, 2023. She was born on October 31, 1993 to Mary Katherine Martinez of Bay City Texas.

Gabbie was born on Halloween, that holiday describes her personality perfectly. Her smile would light up a room and her laughter was loud and contagious.

She was selfless, always giving of herself so someone else didn’t have to go without. She was a lover of animals, especially tiny ones. She always gave everyone a nickname sometimes they were crazy, but we wouldn’t expect anything less. Her sense of style was edgy, if it was cheetah, purple, black, or flamboyant she loved it! Makeup was always on point. A winged liner that was always perfect and her red hair was the right amount of pop.

Once Gabbie became a mom, she found love, passion, and purpose in Landon. She would squeeze and kiss him soo hard; and the way she looked at him needed no words. Her love for him was transcendent and timeless as Gabbie will be to all of us.

Survivors include her mother Mary Katherine Martinez (Kevin Watson); grandparents Lucy Lozano, Paul Woodward and Ramiro E. Martinez, Sr. (Barbara); her son Landon Michael Calk along with his father Garrett Calk and his grandparents April and Toby Calk; sister Cassandra Canales (Jesse Aguilar, Jr.); brother Michael Canales (Mallory Heimsath); nephews Jaycen and Lucas Aguilar, and  nieces Jessa and Liani Aguilar

Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM Friday, June 30, 2023 at Holy Cross Catholic Church.  Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 AM with Fr.. Stephen Vacek officiating.  Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck.  Pallbearers will be Reece Martinez, Jacob Martinez, Adrian Martinez, Michael Landeros, Colby Calk, and Cody Bledsoe.

Robert Olin “Bob” Cannon

Robert Olin Cannon, 93, was born in Pontiac, Michigan on July 12, 1930. He lived his early life in Panama and Sorento, IL. When Bob was a teen, his family moved to St. Louis, MO where he graduated from Bluett High School. Bob spent most of his adult life in St. Louis.

He wore many hats in his 93 years: over-the-road truck driver, manager of a co-op grain elevator, inspector at car factories (Bob was a Ford man), and numerous other jobs along the way including serving in the Air Force during the Korean War. The most significant jobs Bob held were loving husband to his wife, Dottie, and father to Michael, Debra, Gail, and Tammie.

Bob especially enjoyed teasing and tickling his grandchildren. They would refer to him as "Paw-paw who aggravates" - they loved his attention and especially enjoyed accompanying him to his basement workstation to watch him clean and filet the catfish he caught.

His "happy place" was anywhere he could fish. Everyone who knew him understood that if he wasn't at work or sleeping, he was fishing. After retiring, Bob traveled to Palacios, TX every winter to fish in the bay. He caught hundreds of speckled trout and was famous for sharing his massive catches with everyone.

Bob had a sticker that said "Fish quiver when they hear my name." Well, the fish can finally relax - Bob's fishing in heaven now.

Bob was a proud Mason, a past Worshipful Master of Meridian Lodge #2 and former Associate Guardian of Job's Daughters Bethel #50 where all three of his daughters served as Queen of their Bethel.

Bob passed peacefully at home in Columbia, MO on Monday, December 11, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents Olin and Helen, his brother and sister, wife, son, daughter-in-law, three grandsons, and a greatgrandson.

He is survived by his three daughters, six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, a great-great grandson and several nieces and nephews.

There will be a Celebration of Life in Palacios, TX and a Masonic Service and burial at Jefferson Barracks in St. Louis, MO, both to be held at a later date.

As Cody was growing up, he was always so full of life and laughter, had lots of energy, and enjoyed taking things apart to see how things worked. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, liked hunting and fishing, and really loved the beach. Being in the outdoors really relaxed him. Cody was such a kindhearted and fun-loving soul. He was very playful and enjoyed making people laugh. His laugh alone was so infectious that you couldn’t help but laugh with him. He was a loving dad, son, and brother. He was very proud of his two daughters, and you could see it all over his face at the mere mention of their names. Cody loved with his whole heart and nothing less. Cody graduated in 2006 from Van Vleck High School and went on to become a diesel mechanic. However, there really weren’t too many things that Cody couldn’t work on with or without an engine. He was often tinkering with things and strived on the feeling of accomplishment when he was able to figure something out and
repair things. Cody tragically lost his life March 10, 2022.

He is survived by his mother, Charlotte Reese; Dad, James Sutton; and Father, G. Clegg (Robin); Daughters, Kadence and Alyvia; Brothers, Corey Reese, Colton Clegg and Brother-in-law, Cody Downs; Sisters, Karissa Downs and Sarah Falks; a handful of nephews and nieces; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends whom all love him and will miss him dearly. He was proceeded in death by his Grandparents, Tony and Dorothy Reese and Roy and Florence Clegg.

Upon Cody’s passing, he was able to give the gift of life in the form of organ donation. Not only is Cody a hero to his family and friends, but he is also a hero to the many people his gift has touched. Organ donation was Cody’s final gift, his final deed. The family will be planning a memorial in the coming weeks for all to come together and show their love and share memories. Please continue to pray for Cody Glenn’s loved ones through this tragic time.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Carma Reynolds Crain, and 3 children, Cory Ross Crain (Crystal Crain), Erin Ashley Crain Clattenburg (Ben Clattenburg), and Kelsie Rae Crain (Nashir Carabali) and 3 grandchildren, Kenzie, Arden and Cam.

Farris is also survived by a circle of cherished friends, that truly turned into family. From raising children together, to joint vacations and weekly dinners, there was never a dull moment.

Known to his family as “Punkin,” Farris was a loving brother, uncle, cousin, and nephew, and always looked forward to spending quality time together at family reunions.

As a true master of his craft, Farris was able to instill the values of patience, quality and good ‘ole fashion work ethic into his business. His extensive clientele in the community was a reflection of his hard work, meticulous attention detail, innate talent, and trustworthiness. His work in the many local homes and businesses built strong foundations for relationships that would last for years to come.

Farris taught us the value of loyalty, the importance of a listening ear, and the power of a few well-chosen words. As we remember Farris, let us carry forward his legacy in our own lives, cherishing our families, supporting our communities, and making each word count. May he rest in eternal peace, he will be greatly missed.

Mary Edna Crocker

1945—2023

Swing low, sweet chariot Coming for to carry me home Swing low, sweet chariot Coming for to carry me home...

"Swing low, Sweet chariot coming for to carry me home" playing in my head as I held my mother's hand one last time. My mother, Mary Edna Crocker, was born in Hermann Hospital on May 10, 1945, with a hole in her heart. Though I believe that hole only made her love that much more. Love is the word I think of when I think of her. She loved everyone and found great joy in sharing her love and a helping hand, ear, or voice to those who needed it. She gave her time a resource some find hard to give. At the age of 13 she underwent her first open heart surgery to repair the hole in her heart. She married my father, Darrell Eugene Baumgartner, in 1965 and moved to Owatonna, MN, becoming the stepmother to Steven Darrell and Rick Eugene. Giving birth to my brother, Rodney James, and myself, Laura Elizabeth. Divorcing my father in 1986, she and I moved back to Houston, TX, where she grew up. Along the way she gave of herself to her
churches. Her love of reading led to a career as a librarian starting at the Owatonna Public Library and ending with Houston Public Library. After retiring, she moved to her little yellow house by the bay in Palacios.

Mary Edna Crocker passed quietly away on September 25, 2023, at Memorial Hermann Hospital completing the circle of her life. She leaves behind her children, grandchildren, and a few great grandchildren, along with nieces and nephews. Not to mention all those she called her friends. ...

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Graham Crocker, and Lucille Kate Hensarling Crocker, siblings, Charles William Crocker, James Byrd Crocker, and Margaret Lucille Crocker Ford.

A Celebration of Mary's life will be held October 28, 10:00am, First Presbyterian Church, Palacios. Whether you can make it or not please wear something red in her memory, which was her favorite color.

Christopher Lloyd Cruse

June 29, 1969 - March 22, 2019

Christopher Lloyd Cruse, ole “One Eye”, 49 of Palacios, Texas passed away Friday, March 22, 2019. He was born on June 29, 1969 in Atlanta, Georgia and died way too young for any good.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Jean Myers of Palacios, Texas, and special friend Kathy of Fort Myers, Florida.

He is survived by his son, Sean Christopher Cruse of Magnolia, Texas, brothers Ronald Cruse of Tishamingo, Oklahoma, Matthew Cruse and wife Kasey of Marlow, Oklahoma, sister Pamela Theis and husband Greg of West Columbia, Texas, and several nieces and nephews.

He is missed on this earth by his family and friends, the best of whom were called “bro”. Chris lived his life on his own terms, smoking and fishing every time he had the chance. He was an electrician by trade but loved the water and enjoyed living in Naples, Florida and Surfside, Texas for much of his life. However, home was Palacios, the City by the Sea where he was often employed on shrimp boats just because of his love for being out at sea.

Besides raising an amazing son, Chris is remembered for his wit, his heart, his generous, fun-loving, bar room-brawling, instigating and agitating, mischievous self. One of his more memorable accomplishments was standing in the cold water on Quintana Beach on February 14, 2004 as he scooped water over a stranded dolphin for hours that he rescued. Cupid, the dolphin would later become somewhat of a celebrity because of Chris’s selfless acts of compassion and kindness, which epitomizes the heart his family loved so much.

His family would like to thank the oncology team at Naples Community Hospital, his Hospice Family, including Marie, Linda, Patty, Linda and Pastor Bob, and his caregiver Tammy. If you were somehow touched by him and you’d like to honor his memory, donations can be made to Houston Hospice of El Campo, Texas.
