Mexican Infant Is Drowned In Tres Palacios Sunday

Yesterday afternoon, county peace officials were called to the Tres Palacios River, just below Ashby, to inquire into the death of a Mexican baby.

The baby's mother, one of a group of itinerant cotton-pickers, went wading in the river with the child in her arms.

The current toppled her over, and the baby fell from her arms into the river. The mother was rescued by men close by, but the child was drowned before it could be rescued.

Various methods of resuscitation were tried but were unavailing. The official inquest report was: Accidental death by drowning.
