LA GRANGE - Donald Ray Galow, 72, of La Grange, TX, passed away September 18, 2017. He was born on August 8, 1945 in El Campo, TX to the late Oscar Galow and Martha “Annie” Koenig Galow. Donald grew up in Louise, raised his family in El Campo and retired in La Grange, TX, so he and his wife, Sherry, could spend time with their children and grandchildren.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and visiting with friends and family. Don's legacy is the large family he leaves behind, whom are grateful for the years of love, knowledge and kindness he taught and shared. Don was a former member of Bay City Lions Club and a former Modern Farmer Coop board member.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sherry Guynes Galow of La Grange, TX; oldest son, Troy M. Galow and wife Jacqui of Liberty Hill, TX; daughter, Michelle Galow Gates and husband Jeff of Anahuac, TX and their child, Kyle; son, Tracy W. Galow and wife Christi of Austin, TX and their children, Tyler, Tanner, and Emma; youngest son, Jason R. Galow and wife Jessyka of College Station, TX and their children, Addison and Oscar. Don is also survived by his two siblings, brother, Doug Galow and wife Becky of El Campo, TX and sister, Kathy Galow Quintero of Streetman, TX.
Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. Thursday, September 21 at Triska Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. with Rev. Wayne Clement officiating. Burial will follow at Hawley Cemetery in Blessing, TX.

Emilio Garay, age 9 months and 23 days, passed away Tuesday night at eleven o’clock. He is survived by his mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. A. Garay. Funeral services were held at 2 p. m. Fabian Garcez, 1-year-old, of Van Vleck died Jan. 18 at the John Sealy Hospital in Galveston. Funeral services for Anita Garza, 53, of Bay City, are scheduled for 2 p. m. today at the Taylor Brothers Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Juan J. Almendarez officiating. Burial will follow in Cedarvale Cemetery. Mrs. Garza was born April 12, 1940 in Vicksburg, Miss., to Victor and San Juanita Gonzales and died Dec. 24, 1993 at John Sealy Hospital in Galveston. Kimberly Ann Garcia, of Amarillo, TX passed away on October 24, 2017 in Odessa, TX. She attended Odessa College between Fall 2005 thru Fall of 2008, where she obtained her Associates Degree of Applied Science in Child Development while furthering her education graduating December 12, 2008 and went on to work as an Administrative Director at multiple Child Care Centers. Kim took pride and joy in the Development of her Children while encouraging her parents to be involved. Kim “Loved Life” – She adored her family and took any opportunity to spend with them having fun and making memories. Whether that was just hanging out around a fire listening to music and talking – going to the movies – having movie night with family or just doing crafts with her nieces and nephews. Anytime there was an opportunity to have a party and have fun she was always the first one in! She enjoyed time at the beach, playing games, dancing, telling stories and just plain laughing with Loved Ones. Anytime Kim was in a room with Family and Friends she brought so much Fun and Crazy Anarchism to the room. She always wanted everyone laughing and having fun. Kim was a Mama’s girl for sure that Loved her Mom to infinity! She lovingly called her son, Kunta in only a way she could to let her son Dominique know that she loved him so much and that he is always on her mind and in her Heart. All her nephews and nieces would say “My Tia is the cool Aunt”! She always told you how it was even if you didn’t want to hear it. Kim was an awesome confidant and friend. She did not like when anyone would say I can’, she would say to never say that and always strive to do it and “Never Give Up”. She would now want us to have a party to Celebrate her Life! In her words “Let’s Party.” Kim is preceded in death by her fun loving brother, Anthony Garcia; affectionate great grandma, Estephena Chapa; wonderful grandpa, G.L. Lewis; and caring grandma, Concepcion Garcia. Kim is survived by her beautiful loving mom, Nita Garcia; awesome son, Dominique Garcia (aka Kunta;) grandma, Mary V. Murder by knife wounds was the verdict in the case of Charles Gest, 45 year old employee of the Gulf Coast Water Company, when his body was discovered Sunday morning about 6:30 at the intersection of Ave. C and 4th St. He had evidently crawled several feet from where he had been stabbed or thrown from an automobile as marks along the road were plainly visible where he had dragged himself along in attempt to get help. He was seen alive shortly after midnight Saturday night. He had a knife wound in his back, and his abdomen was slit open by a knife about three inches long. His left ankle was dislocated. He had nine cents in his pockets when he was found. He had been paid Saturday. Whether robbery was the motive for the murder has not been ascertained. Clutched in his two fingers was a cigar butt. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Mary Gest, four sisters: Mrs. Frank Schindler, Mrs. Antone Schindler, all of Bastrop; Mrs. Emma Willenberg, Red Rock and Mrs. Willie Eidelbach, of Bay City; two brothers, Emil Gest of Houston and Louie Gest of Bastrop. News of the death of Ed. C. Gibson, a citizen of this city, reached here yesterday from Kerrville, where Mr. Gibson was staying in the interest of his health. Mrs. Gibson left immediately upon receipt of the news, but did not reach the bedside of her husband before death ensured. The funeral was held here this afternoon immediately after the arrival of the Southern Pacific train. Decedent was born June 10, 1882, and came to this State from Tennessee several years ago. He had resided in this county and in Bay City a number of years and in 1912 married Miss Leonora Conger, daughter of Judge and Mrs. J. W. Conger. For the past few years Ed. has been a sufferer from the ravages of tuberculosis and has been going from place to place in West Texas for relief. He left here on his last trip only recently. Edwin Alexander Gibson, 77, of Bay City, died at Matagorda General Hospital July 11. He was a life-long resident of Bay City. Survivors include: wife, Elenore Gibson of Bay City; daughters, June Smith of Houston, Vondel Torgerson of Bay City and Priscella Roberts of Denver Colo.; son, Neal E. Gibson of Van Vleck; 10 grandchildren. The funeral will be held at Taylor Brothers Chapel on Sunday, July 13 at 2 p. m. with Rev. Daniel O’Connell officiating. Jim Gibson, a prominent farmer of Caney Valley and a well thought of citizen of Matagorda County, was shot and killed this morning on his farm near Cedar Lane by a Negro whose name has not been learned. Sheriff Rugeley received a telegram this morning from Cedar Lane to the effect stated above and immediately after the receipt of the message left with a posse for the scene of the crime. No particulars of the crime are obtainable at the present writing, but it is the general report that Mr. Gibson was waylaid. Later: The Negro’s name is Phillip Stanford. He arrived in Bay City shortly after the noon hour today and surrendered to Deputy Sheriff Bert Carr and is now in jail. According to his statement he asserts that there had been some difficulty between Mr. Gibson and himself and that only a few moments before the killing he was severely beaten up by Mr. Gibson. No further particulars have been received at this office.

John Gonzales, four-year-old son of Mrs. Zolia Gonzales of Bay City and Randilo Gonzales of Alamo, Texas, died at John Sealy Houston in Galveston Saturday after an illness of two months. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church with the Rev. L. J. Adams officiating. Burial was in Cedarvale Cemetery under the auspices of the W. O. W. Death due to drowning was the autopsy result announced this morning in the death of three-year-old Julio Gonzales Jr., the son of Mr. and Mrs. Julio Gonzales, Sr. of Van Vleck. The autopsy was performed Thursday evening by Dr. Paul Obert of Victoria after being ordered by Justice of the Peace D. B. Hinton at the coroner’s inquest at 3:30 p. m. Thursday. Judge Hinton informed the Tribune of the result this morning. The small boy was first seen by his mother as he was floating in a rain-swollen ditch behind his house about 2:15 p. m., and her call for help was heeded by a neighbor, Juan Rodriquez. He pulled the boy, who was floating face-down, out of the water and his attempts at artificial respiration failed. Rodriquez took the mother and boy into Matagorda General Hospital, where the three-year-old was pronounced dead on arrival at 2:45 p. m. After consultation with Dr. Fred T. Matthes, attending physician for Gonzales, the coroner ordered the autopsy, results of which now indicate that death was due to drowning. No evidence of any foul play was involved, Judge Hinton said this morning. Julio Rodriquez, Sr., who is employed on a boat currently out of port, was still being sought early Friday in order to inform him of his son’s tragic death. Funeral services will be at 4 p. m. Saturday in Cedarvale Cemetery. A rosary is scheduled in the home at 7:30 p. m. tonight. Father Richard Jeffries officiating. Taylor Brothers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. In addition to his parents, the young boy is survived by several brothers and sisters.

Funeral services for Dan Goodall, 79, were held at 11 o’clock Sunday morning at the Holy Cross Catholic Church here with the Rev. C. J. Martin officiating. Burial was in the Cedarvale Cemetery. Mr. Goodall died at 3 o’clock Saturday afternoon after a long illness. He had been a resident of Wadsworth for many years. Forest Green, 99, of Blessing, passed away on October 28, 2017. He was born on February 14, 1918 in Wichita Falls, Texas to the late Ennis Allen & Mattie Sharp Green. Forest served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII . He worked in the medical field, setting up hospitals in the Pacific theatre. Forest was also an avid reader. Cathe, 75, entered life on November 17, 1941 and went to be with the Lord and love of her life Kenneth Grote on August 4, 2017. She is preceded in death by her husband of 28 years, Kenneth Grote; parents; and brother. She is survived by two children, son, Chris Grote and fiance' Jennifer Morgan; daughter, Judith and Tim Thompson; grandchildren, Michael and Heather Thompson, Tiffany Thompson, Christine Thompson; great grandchildren, Hailey, Kailynn, Kennedy Thompson, Johanna Gutierrez, Cullen Bynum, Haylee Lett. Cathe loved to ready all types of books which led her to volunteer as a Librarian Aide in several locations, one which was with Bay City ISD libraries, throughout her children's school life and other places where she and Ken lived throughout their life together, until his life ended with cancer on August 20, 1993. Don Earl Guynes, 66, of Palacios, Texas went to be with his Lord and Savior on September 24, 2017. He was born in Baytown, Texas on April 25, 1951. He was preceded by his father Ben Hall Guynes, mother Audrey Joines and his sister Beverly Vaughn. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Cynthia Ann Guynes, son Jody Guynes and wife Charity and son Eric Hall Guynes, daughter Amy Dawn Guynes, and step-daughter Wendy Dionne Sellers. Don had 13 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Don received an honorable discharge from the United States Coast Guard. He worked at John D. Mercer & Associates of Edna, Texas, was a Building Inspector for the City of Pearland, Texas, as well as a building inspector for the City of Palacios. He was a bull rider as a young man, he enjoyed the outdoors, and was an avid fisherman. Don loved his beer, the casinos and his family most of all. Don was a wonderful husband, father, papa and friends.
