Randi Gaconnet
July 7, 1964 – April 17, 2011

Randi Gaconnet, of Bay City, Texas, passed away on Saturday April 17, 2011, at Matagorda Regional Medical Center due to lung cancer.

Randi was born July 7, 1964, in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was a well-known mechanic for a number of years.

PLEDGER [Matagorda County, Texas] - Bergman L. Galloway, 89, of Pledger, died Sunday, Nov. 9, 2003.

He was born March 21, 1914, in Livingston, to the late Moode and Mamie Thomas Galloway. He was charter member of First Baptist Church of Pledger and was a former pastor of Trinity Baptist Church of Old Ocean and First Baptist Church of Matagorda. He worked for Dural Sulphur, J.S. Abercrombie, Jefferson Lake Sulphur, Bay City ISD, and Matagorda County Drainage.

Survivors: daughter, Billie White of Alvin; three grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: wife, Louise Galloway; sisters, Lily, Edna, Clara, Joyce, Buna, Cleo, and Mazelle; and brother, Gordie Galloway.

The family will receive visitors 6-8 p.m. today at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home chapel.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home chapel.

Louise Galloway, 86, of Pledger died August 22, 2001 at Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City. She was born October 30, 1914 in Westfield, Texas, to the late Sandor Alexander and Bertha Dozpoly Horvath. Mrs. Galloway was a member of the First Baptist Church of Pledger and a life-long resident of Pledger.

Survivors include: husband, Bergman L. Galloway of Pledger; daughter and son-in-law Billie and O’Neal White of Alvin; sister, Bertha “Avie” Brown of Houston, 3 grandchildren, Norman White and wife Nancy of Alvin, Laurie Windler and husband Cary of Bossier City, LA and Mary Stilwell and husband Daren of Alvin; 9 great-grandchildren, Tiffany, Taylor, Nikki, David, Kenny, Caleb, Haley, Jared, and Blake; 2 sisters-in-law, Ethel Horvath of Pledger and Willie May Horvath of Victoria.

BLESSING - Angelita Galvan, 92, of Blessing passed away May 18, 2011. She was born June 7, 1918 in Victoria to the late Martin Vasquez and Francisca Garza Vasquez.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ramon Galvan; sons, Francisco and Johnny Galvan; sister, Ramona Rodriguez; and brother, Samuel Vasquez.

Survivors include her daughters, Rita Castro of Florida, Maria Castillo of California, Regina Sanchez of Bakersfield, Calif., and Helaria Longoria of Houston; sons, Candelario Galvan of Blessing, Ramon Galvan Jr. of Lamont, Calif., Macky Galvan of Houston, and Jimmy Galvan of Blessing; sisters, Ofelia Rodriguez, Rosario Vasquez, Felipa Calderon and Rita Guerra; brother, Lupe Vasquez; 37 grandchildren; and numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren.

A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Friday at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. Mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday, May 21, 2011 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Blessing with Rev. Peter Yeboah-Amanfo officiating. Interment will follow at St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery in Blessing.

EDNA - Mollie Catherine Dollery Gamble, 89, of Edna, passed away Sunday, May 22, 2011, in Bay City. She was born Jan. 30, 1922, in Edna, to the late Samuel Washington and Frances Cleveland Quinn Dollery. She was a certified nurse.

She is survived by her daughter, Charlotte (LC) Cooksey of Mansfield; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Boyd Gamble; son, Larry Vibrock; and brother, Charlie Dollery.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, May 24, 2011, at Slavik Funeral Chapel.

BAY CITY - Cristina "Tina" Garcia went to be with her Lord on Thursday, Sept. 22, 2011. She was born on March 3, 1931 in Cuero to the late Benito Muniz and Gregoria Rodriguez Muniz. She loved cooking for her family and friends. She had a very giving and caring heart. She will be missed dearly by all.

She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years Ruben Garcia; children, Ana Garcia Pena and husband Daniel, Mary Gonzales and husband Joe, Ruben Garcia Jr. and wife Amy, David Garcia and partner Dennis Cannon; grandchildren, Leticia Acosta, Teresa Gonzales, Gregory Gonzales, Marissa Garcia, Cristina Garcia, Rachel and AnaLiese Garcia, Gabriel Garcia, and Penelope Pena; great-granddaughter, Isabella Acosta; brothers, Robert Muniz, Braulio Muniz, and Benito Muniz; sisters, Felicita Merino, Dolores Lopez, and Janie Sardelich.

Cristina was preceded in death by her grandson, Joseph Gonzales; and infant son, Gabrial Garcia.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 26, 2011 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Rev. Gerry Cernoch as celebrant. The rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the church. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the funeral home and from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the church.

Ezequiel “PaPa” Garcia, Sr., 89, went to be with his Lord on Saturday, Dec. 31, 2011. He was born April 10, 1922 in Goliad, TX. to the late John and Maria Louisa Barboza Garcia. Ezequiel was a truck driver retiring from the Milchem Company. He was an avid lover of cats, especially his beloved BooBoo.

He is survived by his son, Sidney D. Garcia of Bay City; 2 daughters-in-law; Rose T. Garcia and Mary Jesse A. Garcia both of Bay City; grandchildren, Brenda Reyes, Eddie Garcia, Ezequiel T. Garcia, lll and wife Charlotte, Jennifer Garcia, Anthony James Garcia and wife Linsey, Richard Garcia, Monica A. Florentino R. Garcia, Sr. of Houston, Texas died Saturday, May 20, 2000. He was born Oct. 26, 1922 in Mexico to Natividad and Lucia Rodriguez Garcia. Florentino was a long time resident of Bay City until Jan. 1972 when he moved to Houston. He was a member of Christ The King Catholic Church of Houston.

He is survived by: his wife, Mary Lou Garcia of Houston; daughters, Silvia Castaneda of Bay City, Ophelia G. Rodriguez of Houston, Lucy Dingas of Katy, and Linda Gagnon of Jacksonville, Fla.; sons, Natividad Garcia and Raymond Garcia both of Houston; sisters, Catalina Yanez, Cipriana Chavez, Teodora Castillo and Lesara Suarez all of Mexico; 22 grandchildren; six great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to offer a special thank you to his nephew Fernando Ramirez for all his love and support.

Ignacio P. “Nicho” Garcia
Feb. 1, 1924 – May 30, 2011

Ignacio P. “Nicho” Garcia peacefully went with the lord surrounded by the love of his family on Monday May 30, 2011.

He leaves behind his wife of 63 years and a legacy of love, loyalty and hard work.

He was born February 1, 1924, in Cuero, Texas, and was the youngest and last of 12 children born to Francisco and Felipa Partida to leave this world.

He is survived by: his wife, Mary; their children, Mary Helen (Raynaldo) Gutierrez of Sweeny, Fransisco (Gloria) Garcia of Markham, Josephine Rodriguez of Markham, Lee Roy Garcia of Fort Worth, Rose (Bernardo) Gonzalez of West Columbia, Larry (Lucille) Garcia of Lake Jackson; along with 18 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.

He was a backhoe operator. He enjoyed fishing and dancing. He also enjoyed spending quality time with his family.

Family will receive friends from 4 until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 1, 2011, at Dixon Funeral Home in Brazoria.

A rosary will be held at 7 p.m.

Funeral service will be Thursday, June 2, 2011, at 10 a.m. at St. Johns Catholic Church in West Columbia with the Father Daniel S. Baguio officiating.

James Garcia, 67, of Bay City passed away August 20, 2011. He was born April 5, 1944 in Edna, TX to Tony Rosales & Loretta Garcia. He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and retired from Union Pacific Railroad.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years Lucy R. Garcia of Bay City; sons Wayne Garcia & wife Maria of Lake Jackson & Michael Molina of Bay City; daughter Shirley Bertrand of Bay City; granddaughter Carrna Garcia, grandson Jason Molina; mother Loretta Merlos of El Campo; brother Simon Alcalar, Sr. & wife Paula of Hungerford; sister Jeanie Escobar of El Campo and many nieces and nephews. Raul G. Garcia, 73, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, October 26, 2011 in Bay City. Raul was born on July 23, 1938 in Beeville, TX to the late Ramon “Chito” & Estefanita Guerrero Garcia. Raul and his wife Amelia owned and operated the Garcia Café Restaurant. Raul was a loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Raul was an avid gardener, supplying his family with fresh vegetables.

Garcia died on Saturday, Oct. 18, 1998 in Wharton. She was born Nov 3, 1942 in Beeville, Texas to Delfino Medina, Sr. and Petra Gomez Medina. She was a resident of Bay City since 1973, a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and was the owner of Garcia’s Café.

Survivors are her husband Raul B. Garcia of Bay City; her daughters and sons-in-law Stephanie and Bobby Trevino, Irene and Ed Payne and Gloria Ann Garcia, all of Bay City; her son and daughter-in-law Johnny Lee and Irma Garcia of Bay City; her sisters, Ramona Lara of Beeville, Estella Martinez of California, and Jesusa Perez of Ft. Worth; and her brothers Baldemore Medina of Beeville, Ciprano Medina of California, Delfino Medina, Jr. of Beeville, and Cornelio Medina of Houston.

She is also survived by ten grandchildren: Lisa Ann Vargas, Martha Amy Trevino, Moses Trevino, Bobby Trevino, Jr., Rachel Longoria, Rebecca Lynn Garcia, David Jaramillo, Jr., Jessica Lee Jaramillo, Zecharaiah Tylar Payne, and Rosanna V. Raymundo "Reyes" Garcia, Sr., of Bay City died May 29, 2001 at Matagorda General Hospital. He was born March 15, 1913 in Cuero, Texas to the late Francisco and Felipa Partida Garcia. Mr. Garcia was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and a resident of Bay City for the past 60 years.

Survivors include daughter, Belia Gilbert of Bay City, three sons, Jorge Garcia and Raymundo Garcia, Jr. of Bay City and Manuel Garcia of Lytle, Texas; sister, Emilia Martinez of Port Lavaca, Texas; brother, Ignacio Garcia of Markham, Texas. Twelve grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

PALACIOS - Silvestra "Bertha" Palacios Garcia, 85, of Palacios, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2011. She was born Sept. 5, 1926, in Edna, to the late Cruz Palacios Sr. and Elpidia Martinez Palacios. She was a homemaker and non-denominational.

She is survived by her daughters, Irene Guel, Roselee Garcia, and Ophelia Black, all of Bacliff, and Deborah Watson of Red Level, Ala.; sons, Jasper Garcia Sr. and Guadalupe Garcia Jr., both of Palacios, Andrew Garcia Sr. and Sammy Garcia, both of Bacliff, Martin Garcia of San Antonio, and Oscar Garcia of Webster; brothers, Louis Palacios Sr. and Frank Palacios, both of Victoria; 18 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Guadalupe Cantu Garcia Sr.; sons, Ernest Garcia Sr. and Frank Garcia; sisters, Francisca Molina and Olivia Huerta; and brother, Cruz Palacios Jr.

Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, 2011, at The Living Word Church on the corner of 12th and Henderson Streets in Palacios. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at the church.

She was born July 17, 1948 in Bay City, Texas, to the late Francisco and Herlinda Flores Sanchez.

She was a life-long resident of Bay City and was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.

Shelby Jean Garner, (74), of Houston, Tex., passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2011, in Sugar Land, Tex., after a courageous and hard-fought battle with cancer.

She was born September 16, 1936, in Delhi, La., to the late Warren Monroe Andrews and Avis Victoria Pitmon Andrews (Sykes).

Jean is survived by her loving and devoted husband of more than 50 years: Marcie Clark Garner; son, Richard Monroe and wife, Catherine; son, Marcie Clark, Jr. and wife, JoAnn; daughter, Judith Lynn Lebel and husband, Bobby; sister, Marian Elizabeth Wilson; brother, Johnny Alfred Sykes; and four adoring grandchildren: Andy; Josh; Sean; and Caitlin. She was preceded in death by her brother, Milford Ray Andrews; and her grandson, Andrew Monroe Garner.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., Friday, July 29th, at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home, 2313 Avenue I, Bay City, Tex. [(979)245-4613]. A memorial celebration of her life will be held there at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 30th, with interment following at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck, Tex.

Maria (Aurora) Garza, 77, of Bay City died Nov. 23, 2002 at Triumph Hospital in Sugar Land. She was born Aug. 8, 1925 in Lagarto, Texas to the late Gonzalo and Fedencia Vasquez.

Mrs. Garza was a resident of Bay City since 1952 and a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.

Survivors include: daughters and sons-in-law, Terry and Fabian Gallegos of Bay City, Elida and Tom Thomsen of The Dalles, Ore., Elda and Richard Garcia of Houston, and Silvia and Delfino Ochoa of Corpus Christi; sons and daughters-in-law, Francisco and Beatrice Garza, Jr. of Houston, Alfredo of Panama City, Fla. and Jerry and Joan Garza of Lumberton, Texas; sister, Dominga Leal of Mathes, Texas; brother, Gregorio Vasquez of Mathes; 15 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Francisco Garza Sr.; sisters, Hortencia Ruiz and Maria Nieves; and brothers, Manuel and Juan Vasquez.

A rosary was held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Chapel.

The funeral mass was 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, with the Rev. Jerry Cernoch Officiating.

Interment will be at Cedarvale Cemetery.

Raul Medina Garza, 63, formerly of Bay City, died Friday, Oct. 10, 2003 in an Alice Nursing Facility after a long illness.

Mr. Garza was a retired Truck Driver.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonides and Refugia Medina Garza and son-in-law, Carlos Jaramillo Sr.

He is survived by: his wife, Delia M. Garza of Alice, Texas; three daughters, Sandra and husband Kenneth Soares of Bay City; Sara and husband Moses Garcia of Amarillo, Texas, Janie Jaramillo of Bay City; five sons, Rafael Raul and wife Rachel Garza of Bay City, Anseimo and wife Jody Garza of Nederland,Texas, John M. Flores, Jeremy Sanchez; Joel Flores all of Alice, Texas; 27 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Prayer service was at 7 pm Sunday, Oct. 12, 2003 at Walker-Mora Funeral Home in Alice.

Graveside service was Monday, Oct. 13, 2003 at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City.

Billy Davine Gay

Billy Davine Gay, 70, of Bay City passed away June 24, 2003 at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center Hospital in Houston after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born February 12, 1933 in Tyler to the late William Edwin, Sr. and Ruby Leila Sanford Gay. Billy was a resident of Bay City since 1970, a member of the First Baptist Church of Old Ocean, and served in the U S Army during the Korean War. Mr. Gay spent many years working for Phillips Petroleum in Old Ocean. He was always a friend to anyone in need or down on their luck.

Survivors include: daughter: Karen Lynne Chancey of Katy; two sons and daughters-in-law: Roger and Jamie Gay of Bay City, Randy and Peggy Sue Gay of Houston; brothers: Edwin Gay of Bay City and Joe Gay of Fort Worth; six grandchildren: Stephanie Chancey Allen and husband Rick of Houston, Amber Chancey Anguish and husband Aaron of San Marcos, Randy Gay, Jr. and Christopher Gay both of Houston, Roger Gay, Jr. and James Gay both of Bay City.

He was preceded in death by his brother Claude R. Gay.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, June 28, at Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Chester Sassman officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Bart Gay, Rick Barry, Rick Allen, Aaron Anguish, Glenn Ging, Ed Gay, Russell Robertson and Danny Deshchidn. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandsons Randy, Jr., Christopher, Roger, Jr. and James Gay, and special friends John Acrie, Charles and Hairl Bundick.

December 02, 1941 - July 15, 2020

Janet Sue (Wear) Gay age 78, gained her angel wings on July 15, 2020. She is preceded in death by her husband, Claude Ray Gay, mother, Cathryn L (Long) Clark, and father John George Wear. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

She was born on December 2, 1941 in Bay City, TX to Cathryn and John Wear. She married Claude Gay on February 19th, 1959. After Claude was discharged from the Army, they returned to Bay City, TX to live until 1966 when they moved to Sweeny, Texas. There for the next 54 years, she raised 3 girls, graduated from Brazosport Junior College, operated a day care, worked for Pettigrew Electronics and Intermedics and worked for a short time as a city water meter reader. In 1979, the family moved to a small farm just outside the city limits.

She is survived by her children Cynthia Shook (David), Christina Royster (James), and Claudette Gray (Brandon). Her 4 grandchildren Kristin Cooper Woods, Heather Cooper, Steven Cooper Jr., Melissa Coleman and 6 great-grandchildren Trenton Shook, Benjamin Hurst, Christopher Hurst, Nicholas Pyles, Steven Cooper III, Dana Cooper. She is also survived by her brother, Randall Clark, twin sister, Judy Byrd and sister Mary Glazner, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM Friday, July 24, 2020 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 2:00 PM with Rev. Chester Sassman officiating.  Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.

Funeral services for Frank A. Geniesse, 79, of Bay City will be held at 11 am Tuesday at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Sonnier officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park, Van Vleck.

Mr. Geniesse was born March 31, 1907, in Michigan and died Oct. 19, 1986, at his residence.

A resident of Bay City for 30 years, he was a member of the Catholic church.

Survivors include his wife, Vera Geniesse of Bay City; and a brother, Jack Geniesse of Beaver Dam, Wis.

BLESSING - Donald Guy Glaze, 85, of Blessing, passed away at his residence Friday, Feb. 18, 2011. He was born in Louise, June 12, 1925, to the late Guy and Gertrude Thomas Glaze. Donald served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. For the majority of his life he was a rice farmer and rancher. He was always an avid hunter, steer roper, gardener, and guitarist. In his later years he also took an interest in playing bingo and the Texas Lottery. Donald was a loving husband, daddy, and papa. He will be missed by many.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Gresham Glaze of Blessing; son, Roy and wife Susie Glaze of Cedar Park; daughters, Donna and husband Larry Kalich of Gregory, Mona and husband Scott Stewart of El Maton, Diane and husband Charles Peterson of Cuero; sister, Iris and husband Gene Isaacson of Louise; 10 grandchildren, Bonnie, Kristie, Kevin, Bubba, Ross, Reba, Jeff, Mandi, Chuck and Russell; 12 great-grandchildren, Ryan, Meagan, Gage, Gavin, Gunnar, Lauren, Mason, Nathan, Caiden, Kendal, Zoey, and Connor.

Mr. Glaze was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Doris Wenglar, Melba Morton and Norma Mae Waites.

Funeral services will be Monday, Feb. 21, 2011, at 10 a.m. at Wheeler Funeral Home in El Campo. Visitation will begin Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Wheeler Chapel.

Evelyn Marie Gresham Glaze

BLESSING - Evelyn Marie Gresham Glaze, 83, of Blessing, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2011, reuniting with her beloved husband of 65 years, Donald Glaze. She was born in Louise on Dec. 28, 1927, to the late T. Frank and Jessie Besch Gresham.

Evelyn graduated from Louise High School and then graduated from beauty college in Houston. She worked as a hairdresser until "the love of her life", Donald Glaze, returned home after serving his country as a U.S. Marine. They were married on June 12, 1946 until Donald's death in February 2011. Evelyn and Donald raised four children. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, and sister, with an ever loving smile. Evelyn was a member of the First Baptist Church of Blessing.

Evelyn's interests included crocheting, quilting, sewing, and bingo. She also enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren to whom she will be missed dearly.

She is survived by her son, Roy and his wife Susie Glaze of Cedar Park; daughters, Donna and husband Larry Kalich of Gregory, Mona and husband Scott Stewart of El Maton, Diane and husband Charles Peterson of Cuero; 10 grandchildren, Bonnie, Kristie, Kevin, Bubba Ross, Reba, Jeff, Mandi, Chuck and Russell; and 12 great-grandchildren, Lauren, Mason, Kendal, Nathan, Caiden, Zoey, Connor, Ryan, Megan, Gavin, Gage, and Gunnar.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald Guy Glaze; sister, Verna Gresham Saunders; niece, Freda Gresham Franklin; and nephew, Tommy Saunders.

Charles Wayne “Chuck” Gola, 61 of Bay City, passed away Saturday, November 5, 2011. He was born November 9, 1949 in Bay City to Charles Louis Gola and Thelma Lucille Brumley Gola. He was a life-long resident of Bay City and was a Painting Contractor.

He is survived by his wife, Donna Thames Gola of Bay City; a daughter, Susanne McLeod & husband Stephen of Pledger; son, Kerry Wayne Gola & wife Debbie of Sweeny; step-sons: Anthony Ronald Young of Bay City and Michael Wayne Stuart and wife Christi of Bay City; sister, Dena Gail Brewer of Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren, Jeremy, Travis, and Chad Wallace and Blake Marcum; great grandchild, Emilie Wallace; and step-grandchildren, Ashley, Jacob, and Jackson Stuart. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles L. and Thelma Gola; by brother, Jesse Earl Gola; and great grandchild, Mya Wallace.

Carmen Castillo Gomez, 59, of Markham, died April 8, 2000, at Methodist Hospital in Houston.

She was born Aug. 9, 1940, in El Maton to the late David Castillo and Susana Anguiano Castillo. Mrs. Gomez was a life-long resident of Matagorda County and was a Baptist.

Survivors include: two daughters and sons-in-law, Monica and Gerald Scribner of Sugar Land, and Melinda and Ricky Galvan of Blessing; mother, Susana Castillo of Markham; sister, Julia Williford of Alvin; brother, Robert Castillo of Houston; and seven grandchildren, Richard, Anna, Joseph, Eric, and Melissa Galvan, all of Blessing, and Katherine and Susana Scribner, both of Sugar Land.

Mrs. Gonzales was a resident of Lake Jackson the past 12 years, and a former longtime resident of Bay City.

He was born October 31, 1954 in Humacao, Puerto Rico to Arturo Gonzalez Benitez and Tomasa Gonzalez Viera.

He was an industrial painter and had been a resident of Bay City for the past 22 years.

He is survived by: wife, Elizabeth Gonzalez of Bay City; parents Arturo Gonzalez Benitez of Brooklyn, NY and Tomasa Gonzalez Lozada of Jersey City, NJ; daughters, Aleida Gonzalez of Houston, and Cindy Munoz of Houston, and Alexa Gonzalez of Bay City; four sisters, Blanca Rosario of Bayonne, NJ, Iris Lozada of Jersey City, NJ, Nidia Gonzalez and Tina Gonzalez of Brooklyn, NY; and by three brothers, Davy and Tomas Lozada of Jersey City, NJ, and David Lozada of Colorado.

“Pop” Gould Dies At 67

Loyd Christian “Pop” Gould, 1200 6th Street, Bay City passed away Saturday morning at the Veteran’s Hospital in Houston at the age of 67.

Funeral services are set for 3 p. m. today at the Taylor Brothers Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in Cedarvale Cemetery with Elder Bryan Ellis and Elder Alfred Bailey of the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints officiating. Graveside services will be conducted by the Odd Fellows.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Susan Lynn Gould; one daughter, Mrs. Peggy Larson of Chicago, Illinois; four step-daughters, Mrs. Bernice Badgett of Barstow, California; Mrs. Iris Royster of Bay City; Mrs. Norma Lettieri of Brooklyn, New York; Mrs. Ruth Graham of Bay City; two sisters, Mrs. Jerri Burns and Mrs. Inez Larnar of Montebello, California.

Pallbearers are E. J. Ashcraft, Walter Lowe, Elic Lyman, George E. Wainner, George D. Wainner and Paul M. Wainner. The Odd Fellow were named as honorary pallbearers.

Eleanor Thompson Graham, 90, died on Dec. 2, 2001 in Santa Rosa, California, where she had been a resident of the Oakmont Gardens Retirement Community since 1998.

Born in Comer, Georgia to Fay Davis and John David Thompson, on Oct. 15, 1911, she had lived in Texas-prior to her move to California-since her marriage to Russell Eldridge Graham in 1935.

She and her husband moved to Bay City, Texas in 1940, and she made her home there for 58 years.

In Bay City, Mrs. Graham had been a member of the First Baptist Church since 1940, teaching the Fedelis Class for 30 years, and serving as the pianist in the Adult Department of the church and in many other church capacities.

She was a Charter Member of the Bay City Pink Ladies Hospital Auxiliary and of the Bay City Study Club, and a long time member of the Chautauqua Club and the Bay City Book Club.

She was an accomplished book reviewer in Bay City and in the surrounding communities.

Immediately prior to her death, Mrs. Graham had provided book reviews to a number of organizations in Santa Rosa and Greenbrae.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1981, and is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara Graham and Herbert Kreissler of Greenbrae, California, and a son and daughter-in-law, David Eldridge and Lynn Graham, of Alexandria, Virginia.

All who knew Mrs. Graham agreed that she was a "true Georgia Peach."

Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec 14 at Tiburon Baptist Church, 445 Greenwood Beach Road in Tiburon, California.

A private graveside service will be held in Bay City, conducted by Dr. W. D. Baker, her pastor of over 25 years. Burial will be in Cedarvale Cemetery.

A special fund in memory of Eleanor Thompson Graham has been established at Hospice of Marin. Donations in her honor may be sent to:

Ruth C. Graham, 76, of Bay City, passed away Monday, Oct. 30, 2000, at the Methodist Hospital in Houston.

Ruth was born on Oct. 30, 1924 in Bay City to parents Elic Troupe and Susan Arminda Lynn Catchings.

Ruth was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Bay City and was a Girl Scout leader and a Red Cross swim instructor for many years in Bay City.

She is survived by: husband, E. S. "Shep" Graham of Bay City; daughters and sons-in-law, Janet and Johnny French of Lake Jackson, Gina and Garlan Hinman of Bay City; sisters, Bobbie Lettieri of Florida, Vera Warren of Georgia, and Nancy Spicer of Missouri; grandchildren, Jana and Spencer Gibson of College Station and PFC Jon-Michael Graham French of Ft. Riley, Kan.

She was preceded in death by a son, Robert Shepherd Graham, and by sisters, Bernice Badgett and Iris Royster.

Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 2, 2000 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saintes in Bay City, with Bishop Brent Ethington and Dr. Joseph Cannon officiating.

Burial will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the Bay City Funeral Home from 6 until 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Pallbearers will be Jon-Michael Graham French, Buddy Biggerstaff, Bill McKissick, Russell Lovell, Ken Madsen and Hollis Kirkland.

Honorary pallbearers will be Frank Rickman, M.D., James Cowart, M.D., Kim Bloom, M.D., Glenn Ashcraft, John Lewis Underwood and Charles Talbot.

Russell Eldridge “Edge” Graham

1908 – 1981

 

Former Matagorda County Sheriff, R. E. “Edge” Graham, died Wednesday at Bay Villa Nursing Home at the age of 72. Graham served the county as sheriff for seven years, retiring in 1976.

 

Prior to becoming sheriff, he was chief deputy for the Matagorda County’s Sheriff’s Department, starting in 1957 and holding the position for 11 years. The former sheriff owned and operated Graham’s Grocery for 13 years. He has served the community in many volunteer capacities.

 

The long-time Bay City resident was an active member of the First Baptist Church, being a deacon for over 30 years. Graham served 10 years on the Board of Trustees of Bay City Independent School District, part of that time as president. Throughout the years, he has participated in such organizations as the United Fund, the Cancer Association, and served as president of the Lion’s Club. Graham was also active with the Little League, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and other youth organizations not only in Bay City but in Matagorda County.

 

Survivors include his wife, Eleanor of Bay City; son, Major David E. Graham of Alexandria, Virginia; daughter, Barbara Graham of The Woodlands; sisters, Mrs. M. B. Booth of Comer, Georgia and Mrs. W. J. Elliott of Decatur, Georgia.

 

Services are pending at Bay City Funeral Home.

Ted F. Grantham 57, of Sugar Land, Texas died July 11, 2001 at Southwest Memorial Hospital in Houston. He was born May 11, 1944 in Wilmington, N. C. to Elwin E. and Marion Fryar Grantham. Mr. Grantham was a member of the Baptist Church, a resident of Sugar Land the past 21 years and was a former resident of Wilmington, N. C. and Jacksonville, Florida.

Survivors include: wife, Lynda Grantham of Sugar Land; daughter, Catherine Elizabeth Grantham of Sugar Land; beloved mother, Marion Grantham of Jacksonville, Fla., brother, Steve Grantham of Jacksonville, Fla. He was preceded in death by his father Elwin E. Grantham.

Funeral Service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, July 14, 2001, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Sam Starks officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Aug. 31, 1985 - March 22, 2011

James Robert Craig Grebe was born August 31, 1985, in Bay City, and died March 22, 2011, in Fort Worth.

He is survived by: his parents, Lynn and Debra Grebe; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Suzette and Jon Selden of Austin, Penny and Mike Bergeron of Provo, and Celeste and Brandon Sipherd of New York City; his brother, Dennis Grebe of San Antonio; and his sister, Kathryn Grebe of Provo; his grandparents, Mary and Bob Grebe of Denver; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

He is also survived by the love of his life — his fiance, Lindsey Joy Janik of Fort Worth, and his future in-laws, Dan and Mary Jo Janik, and future sister-in-law, Jennifer Laird, all of Katy.

Craig was a third-year medical student at University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth, an honor graduate of Tulane University, and a 2004 graduate of Bay City High School, where he graduated in the Top Ten.

He was an outstanding football player, playing in three state championships for the Bay City Blackcats.

As a youth he enjoyed swimming and won five state championships, swimming breaststroke for the summer league. Many of his records still stand.

He enjoyed working with underprivileged children and taught swimming lessons; he worked as a lifeguard at Hilliard Pool for four years.

He enjoyed the outdoors and was an Eagle Scout.

He was engaged to be married to Lindsey Joy Janik on July 23, 2011.

Craig was diagnosed with Type I diabetes at age 15.

He took care of himself and was never seen without his diabetes pack. Diabetes was part of the Craig that we knew.

In life he was an inspiration to others. In death he will not be forgotten.

His funeral was held Saturday, March 26, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Bay City.

A scholarship fund is set up in his name at Wells Fargo, and donations may be made there.

PALACIOS - Oscar Fred "Freddie" Greer Jr., 41, of Palacios, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011. Freddie was born in Richmond on Dec. 15, 1969 to Oscar F. Greer Sr. and Gayle Fondon Greer. He was a welder and a member of Faith Temple.

He is survived by his wife, Sarah Greer; daughter, Faith Greer; sons, Oscar Fred "Trey" Greer III, Christopher Greer-Vasques, and William Greer; father, Oscar Fred Greer Sr. and wife Donna; mother, Gayle Polachek and husband Leo; and brothers, Kenneth Henderson and Tommy Henderson.

Viewing will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Finch Funeral Chapel. The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Faith Temple in Nixon. Burial will follow at Bundick Cemetery in Smiley.

Mary “MoMo” Guajardo, 67, went to be with her Lord on Monday, Jan. 9, 2012. Mary was born March 9, 1944 in Bay City to the late John Joseph & Julia Rodriguez Valdez. She was a very devoted mother and grandmother. She loved baking for her family, especially her grandchildren. Mary loved music, dancing whenever the occasion presented itself. She will be greatly missed by her sons.

She is survived by her 2 sons: Joe Guajardo & wife Abigail and Jerry Guajardo; 2 grandchildren: Jared and Gabriella; 4 brothers: Jesse Valdez, John Joe “Kenny” Valdez, Lorenzo Valdez, and Guadalupe Valdez; 3 sisters: Angie Lopez, Mary Rose Cox, and Corrina Cortez; and numerous nieces and nephews and other loving family members.

Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday, January 12, 2012 with the Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6:30 PM. Mass of the Resurrection will be 10:00 A. M. Friday, January 13, 2012 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Father Jerry Cernoch officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery.

Funeral services for Cayetona Guanajuato, 74, of Bay City, will be at 10 a.m. April 23, 2001, at Our Lady of Guadalupe, with Father Ed Boren officiating. Rosary will be said at 6 p.m. Sunday, April 22, 2001, at Bay City Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City, Texas.

She died April 20, 2001, at Wharton, Texas. She was born Aug. 7, 1926 at Granbury, Texas.

William Allen "Dub" Guidry, 74, passed away Tuesday, February 20, 2001 at his residence. He was born in Port Arthur, Jefferson County, Texas on August 28, 1926 to Allen and Jessie Snowe Guidry.

Dub was a member of the First Baptist Church. He worked as a Petroleum Engineer for Skelly Oil Company, Getty Oil Company, and Texaco.

He is survived by: two daughters, Darla Guidry of Austin and Pat Guidry of Bay City, one sister and brother-in-law, Frances and Oscar Travis of Port Arthur, Texas; two nephews and one niece.

Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, February 24, 2001 at the First Baptist Church of Bay City with the Dr. Michael Zimmerman officiating.
Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Eddie Snow, John Travis, Kirby Dismukes, Bruce Mahlen, Eddie Moore, and James Barbour.

Funeral services for Margaret Louise Guidry, 68, of Bay City are scheduled for 2:30 p. m. Sunday at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael Zimmerman and Dr. W. D. Baker officiating. Burial will be in Cedarvale Cemetery.

Mrs. Guidry was born May 4, 1924 in Greenville, S. C. to J. B. and Lela Bryant Ward and died March 5, 1993 in Matagorda General Hospital.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church, an active member of the Gleaners Sunday School class and a volunteer worker for the Bay City Public Library.

Survivors include her husband, W. A. “Dub” Guidry of Bay City; a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Robert Fellingham Jr.; a daughter, Darla Guidry of Austin; and a brother, Burton Ward of Fayetteville, N. C.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Powers, Kirby Dismukes, Wayne Michael, John Travis, Michael Stefflen and J. W. Gilley.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Bay City Public Library.

Alonzo Lonnie Gutierrez, 67, of Bay City, died Thursday, July 13, 2000 in Houston, Texas.

He was born May 30, 1933 in Olmito, Texas to Perclean and Virginia Vasquez Gutierrez.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Gutierrez of Bay City; daughters, Terri Gutierrez of Brownsville, Sharon Gonzales, Nan Garcia, Brenda Bush, Vicki Garza, all of Bay City, and Gloria Trujillo of Arizona; sisters, Amparo Flores, Virginia Caldera, and Toni Salivar, all of Brownsville; Gloria Garza of Dallas, and Chavela Garza of Georgia; brothers, Pedro Gutierrez, Alfredo Garza, and Angel Garza, all of Brownsville; one nephew, Coy Martinez, Jr. of Bay City; 21 grandchildren; and eight grandchildren.

A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Friday, July 14, 2000, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. Mass will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 15, 2000, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with the Rev. Edward Boren officiating.

Interment will follow in Cedarvale Cemetery. He was preceded in death by one son, Johnny Soto.

Jerry Gutierrez, 59, of Bay City died Nov. 8, 2000 at Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City. He was born Oct. 28, 1941 in Matagorda County to Gilbert and Simona Garcia Gutierrez. Mr. Gutierrez was a resident of Bay City.

Survivors include: sisters, Mary Waggoner of Bay City, Elida Trevino of Angleton, Diana Reyna of Victoria, Delia Martinez of Houston, Esmeralda Candelaria of New Mexico, Minnie Vela of Tivoli, Beatrice Flores of Lake Jackson, and Denia Garcia of Bay City.

Mr. Gutierrez was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Simona Gutierrez; his brother, Gilbert Gutierrez; and his sister, Amelia Martinez.

Funeral services were 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 12, 2000, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. Interment was at Cedarvale Cemetery.

BAY CITY [Matagorda County, Texas] - Juan Guzman, 79, of Bay City, died Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2002.

He was born May 28, 1923, in Ocampo, Guanajuato, Mexico, to the late Refugio and Maria Gallegos Guzman. He was a laborer in the oilfield.

Survivors: wife, Antonia Pinon Guzman of Houston; daughters, Maria Gonzales of Bay City, Juana Aguilar of Ganado, Herminia de Aguilar and Maria Garcia, both of Mexico, and Lupe Garza of Missouri City; son, Inocensio Guzman of San Antonio; sisters, Pifania Guzman and Carmen Guzman; brother, Cension Guzman; 16 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: parents.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home chapel, the Rev. Saul Garcia officiating.
