Ray Hanna

Sweeny—Ray Albert Hanna, 75, of Sweeny, died Tuesday, March 14, 2006.

He was born March 8, 1931 in Sweeny, to the late William Voyd and Bertha Louise Hanna Norman. He was a veteran of the Korean conflict having served in the U. S. Air Force as a flight engineer on B-29 and B-50 bombers, was a retired instrument technician with Dow Chemical for 25 years, and a member of Shady Acres Baptist Church.

Survivors: wife, Daisy Hanna; daughter, Linda Miner of Sweeny; sons, Alan Hanna of Churchill, Steve Hanna of Sargent and Monty Hanna of Sweeny; sisters, Naomi Swinney of Janesville, Calif.; Phyllis Hendershot of Sweeny, Zana Ellis of Blessing, Margie Mielsch of Cedar Lane, and Faye Pounders of Brazoria; brothers, George W. “Buster” Hanna of Sweeny, Elby Hanna of Sargent and Paul Hanna of Bay City; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: sisters, Quinda Hanna and Agnes Merritt; and brother, Wesley B. Hanna.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p. m. today at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home, Bay City, 979-245-4613.

Services will be 2 p. m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church of Sweeny, the Rev. David Pate officiating.

Burial will follow at Sweeny Cemetery.

Funeral services for Nelva Glenn Harris, 78, of Bay City, Texas will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Mother Zion Baptist Church in Bay City.

Paul "Pug" Drannon Harvey
May 11, 1927 – Sept. 16, 2007

Paul "Pug" Drannon Harvey was born to Elijah and Stella Mae Harvey in Broaddus, Texas on May 11, 1927 and passed away Saturday Sept. 16, 2007 at his residence.

He graduated from Van Vleck High School where he was involved in basketball, track and football. He served with the U.S. Army in World War II and the Korean War.

Mr. Harvey was retired from Monsanto Chemical Company and was a member of the Community Baptist Church of Danbury, Texas.

Mr. Harvey was a great contributor to the community and served as a City Councilman, former Mayor of Danbury, DISD School Board Member, and Charter Lifetime Member of the BCFA (Brazoria County Fair Association), Member of American Legion – Danbury, Member of ABBA (American Brahman Breeders Association).

Most of all, Mr. Harvey was a family man – he loved his family. Mr. Harvey was married on December 13, 1949, to Florence Helen Prunty and together they had three children, six grandchildren and one great grandchild. Mr. Harvey loved his grandchildren with all of his heart.

Mr. Harvey is survived by: wife, Florence (Flossie) Harvey; daughter, Pauletta Klemstein and husband Jimmy of Needville; daughter, Suzanne McCracken and husband Bubba of Angleton; and son Tommy Harvey of Danbury. Mr. Harvey is also survived by: six grandchildren – Chantz Klemstein, Marisa Bienek and husband Chris, J.T. McCracken, Kyle McCracken, Garrett Harvey and Meagan Harvey and one precious great grandchild, Kash McCracken. Sisters Noreen Murray of Collegeport, Texas; Tennie Fief (Leo) and Shirley LeCompte (Freck) of Danbury, Texas and brother Cliff Harvey (Ginger) of Bay City, Texas, brother-in-law Homer Prunty (Kathy) of Angleton, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Harvey was loved by all and will be missed.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Community Baptist Church, Danbury, Texas.

Pallbearers will be Garrett Harvey, J. T. McCracken, Kyle McCracken, Chantz Klemstein, Bill Bona, Wayne Harvey and Jim Bob Murray.

Honorary pallbearers will be Chris Bienek, Leonard Venhaus, Larry Menard, Pat Scott, Kash McCracken, Mike Davenport, Matt Frank, and Johnny Reyna.

Services were held at 10:30 am Monday at Community Baptist Church in Danbury with David Smith officiating. Burial followed in the Danbury Cemetery.

Frank John Havel
June 30, 1934 - March 20, 2018

Frank John Havel, 83 of Blessing passed away Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at home in Blessing, TX.

He was born June 30, 1934 to Thomas J. Havel and Antonio Klesel in El Maton, TX. He married June Christie on February 6, 1954. Mr. Havel was a life long resident of Blessing, a member of St. Peters Catholic Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus, a member of the Sons of the American Legion, a member of Alcoa 25 year club, a member of the Boat Club in Point Comfort, an Eagle Scout, State Champion Dairy Judge in 1951 and a Lab Technician for Alcoa for 32 years.

He is survived by his two daughters, Katherine Mathews and husband Thomas of Blessing, and Sarah Hajovsky and husband Mark of Louise; four sons, Douglas Havel and wife Cathy of Cypress, Dennis Havel and wife Ginger of Corpus Christi, Kenneth Havel of Bulverde, and Roger Havel and wife Annette of Blessing; sisters, Tereza Shimek of Palacios and Margaret Smaistrla of East Bernard; 46 grandchildren, Lee, Cindy, Eric, Stephen, Sterling, Cameron, Joshua, Rachel, Trevor, Carson and Weston Havel, Christie and Gavin Myers, Michelle and Corby Horine, Matthew and Robbie Mauch, Kelsey and Jon Crouch, George Scheible, Brittany and Kipp Pridgeon, Danny and Heather Reddick, Amanda and Mat Carr, Tara Hohenberger, Amber and Brady Collins, Troy, Kristin and Derek Sless, Chad, Kelsey, Craig, Cory and Tana Hajovsky, Shelly and Thomas Delgado, Wendy, Beau, Heather, Bubba, Lina, Clint and Ashley Mathews; 33 great grandchildren: Lauren, Cassidy & Caleb Myers, Jadeyn and Beck Horine, Lucy, Maxwell and Opal Mauch, Jackson, Luke, Lily, Eli, June and Wade Havel, Urijah Crouch, Tyler Edholm, Zachary Reddick, Mathew and Isla Carr, Ethan Neal, Brynn Hohenberger, Parker Sless, Heidi and Kennedy Hajovsky, Morgan Bartech, Payton Lee, Meredith Delgado, Byron, Emma, Arena, Brynlee, Hatley and Holden Mathews; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Havel of West Columbia.

Mr. Havel was preceded in death by his parents; wife, June of 52 years; brothers, Thomas Jr., Alois, James and Henry Havel; and a son-in-law, Darrell Sless.

We would like to thank his caregivers Becky Yackel, Shenna Mattes and Aquilla Bluntson for their love and support during this time.  The loss of a loved one is always difficult, but the burden of this loss has been lessened by the care and compassion that these ladies have shown to our family.

Visitation was held at Palacios Funeral Home on Saturday, March 24, 2018 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.; and will be held on Sunday, March 25, 2018 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., a Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at Palacios Funeral Home in Palacios, TX.

A Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at St. Peters Catholic Church of Blessing with Father Gabriel J. Mensah officiating.

Interment will follow at St. Peters Catholic Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Troy Sless, Joshua, Sterling, Stephen and Lee Havel and Matthew Mauch.

Honorary pallbearers will be Scott Jackson, Larry Karl, William Feldhousen, E. R. Vacek and Mr. Havel’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Charlye Ruth Henderson
November 23, 1927 - February 24, 2018

Charlye Ruth Henderson, 90, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, precious friend to all, died on February 24, 2018 at Seton Medical Center Williamson. She lived fully, just celebrating her 90th birthday.

Charlye Ruth was born on November 23, 1927, and grew up in Bay City, Texas. She married the love of her life, Harvey Joyce “Mert” Henderson in 1947 and they lived happily together for 64 years.

Charlye Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Mert Henderson.

She is survived by her daughter, Marsha Prather; her son, Harvey Joyce “Jay” Henderson Jr. and his wife Rhonda; her grandsons, Michael Prather and his wife Tammy, and Matthew “Matt” Prather and his wife Erika; and her granddaughters, Jenny Carpenter and her husband Cody, Jill Maxfield and her husband David, and Jana Smith and her husband Kevin. She is also survived by 12 great grandchildren, Kyle, Colin, Jarred, Jacob and his wife Alyssa, Miranda, Nicolas, Marissa, Corie, Katelyn, Sadie, Lincoln, and Madigan.

Charlye Ruth’s father and mother, Charles and Vivian Marshall; her only brother, Jim Marshall; and son-in-law, Michael “Mike” Prather, also preceded her in death.

Charlye Ruth loved life. She loved the Lord. She found true joy in any circumstance and lavished love on all those she encountered. She will be sorely missed on this earth but greatly celebrated in Heaven; her voice will resound in the angel’s choir. We will see you soon Nannie.

Visitation will be held at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 28, 2018, from 5 p.m. to 8 pm.

A Funeral Service will be held at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home on Thursday, March 1, 2018, at 10 a.m., followed by a graveside committal service.

Jimmie Lee Hinton, Jr.
November 14, 1952 - February 16, 2018

 Jimmie Lee Hinton, Jr., 65, died peacefully in Stevens Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Hallettsville, Texas on February 16, 2018.

Jimmie was born on November 14, 1952 in Galveston, Texas, the son of Bertha May (Zimmerlee) Hinton and Jimmie Lee Hinton Sr.

He was working for Patrick The Grass Man of San Antonio, Texas.

He will be deeply missed.

He is survived by three sisters, Alice Hinton Rickels and husband Charles of Drummonds, TN; Mary Bundick and her fur baby Princes "Ms. P" of Rockport, TX and Sandra Hinton Walpole and husband Mark of Rockport, TX; numerous nieces and nephews.

Kerry Lee Hoffman

Kerry Lee Hoffman, 60, of Markham, Texas passed away April 3, 2018 in Markham.

She was born May 9, 1957 to Jackie Jean Boatright.

Survivors include her husband, Shannon Hoffman; mother, Jackie Jean Boatright; sister and brother-in-law, Kathy and Johnny Maddox; and brother, Kevin Shaw.

"Only when you remove a tree from the garden do you realize the tree was the garden the flowers bloomed for the tree the people sought shade and comfort Quietly I weep for her for her family for life The Garden Remains but without its tree it's never the same."

Kerry Hoffman was a tree among many from who all she was born and unto it she has returned.

Vera Lucille Hogg

Funeral services for Vera Lucille Hogg, 84, of Bay City were to be held 4 p. m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Bay City with Dr. W. D. Baker officiating. Burial was to follow at Cedarvale Cemetery, Bay City.

Miss Hogg was born May 1, 1906, to J. D. and Clemmie Countiss Hogg in Miles, Texas, and died June 22, 1990, at Bay Villa Nursing Home in Bay City.

A resident of Bay City since 1937, she was a retired assistant county auditor and a member of First Baptist Church in Bay City.

Survivors include four nephews, Raymond J. Hartley of Plainview, Texas, Lloyd Robertson of Murkel, Texas, Glenn Hogg and B. J. Hogg, both of Houston; three nieces, Aileen Boney of Houston, Mary Hellen Meador of Sacramento and Eva Ray Scrocco of Hot Springs Village, Ark.

Pallbearers are Bill Ehlert, Roy Sanders, Curly Grimes, Neil Weldon, Bill Smith and Andy Anderson.

Ann Holcomb, age 75, of El Campo, Texas passed away April 24, 2018 in El Campo.

She was born May 12, 1942 in El Campo to the late Wendall M. and Ruth Isabel Shult Holcomb.

She is survived by her brother, Lyndon P. Holcomb and Nan Dietert of Uvalde, Texas.

There will be a prayer service for family and friends at Hawley Cemetery in Blessing, Texas at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 2, 2018, prior to her burial.

Cora Isabell Horn

Graveside services for Cora Isabell Horn, 71, will be held 10 a.m. Friday at Cedarvale Cemetery, with the Rev. Hugh B. Jones Sr. of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church officiating.

Mrs. Horn was born Jan. 26, 1918, in Matagorda County to J. Harvey and Annis Long Horn and died March 15, 1989, at Bay Villa Nursing Home.

A member of the Episcopal church, she was the long-time owner of Isabell’s Florist in Bay City.

Survivors include a brother, J. R. Horn Sr. of Alvin; a nephew, J. R. Horn Jr. of Houston; a niece, Carolyn Ann Horn of Aurora, Colo.; and three great-nieces.

She was preceded in death by her husband.

Services will be under the direction of Dick R. Elkins, Bay City Funeral Home.

Mr. W. P. Hovey, aged 56 years, 7 months and 23 days, died yesterday afternoon at 2:15 o’clock and was buried at 3 o’clock this afternoon in Cedarvale Cemetery, following religious services at the residence.

Mrs. J. H. (Red) Howard Buried Here Today – Mary Elvira Howard
Body of Storm Victim Found Friday Afternoon

Mrs. J. H. (Red) Howard, age 50, wife of J. H. Howard, fish dealer of Bay City, was buried this morning in the Cedarvale Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Walker-Matchett. Services were conducted by Reverend Deutsch, this, Saturday morning at 9 o’clock.

The body of Mrs. Howard was found in the Cornelius pasture in a slough, about three miles from the Howard Fishing Camp on the beach. It is believed that Mrs. Howard was drowned Wednesday morning when the tidal wave swept everything in its path near Sargent. Her body was washed to the spot where she was found yesterday.

With her at the time was her son, nine years old, whose body has not yet been located, the heavy rains of yesterday making search impossible. The body of Alfonas Sanches, 63-year-old Mexican who was with Mrs. Howard at the time, was found Thursday by Messrs. Jim Tabb and Will Broughton.

Infant Son Of The Bert Huebners Dies - Daniel Baer Huebner

Graveside services will be conducted Thursday at 3:00 p. m. in Cedarvale cemetery for the infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Bert Huebner who passed away Wednesday afternoon at Matagorda General Hospital. Dr. A. T. Dyal will conduct the services and Taylor Brothers Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.

The baby is survived by his parents, two sisters, Sara Lee and Rae Allison Huebner and one brothers, Glenn Baer Huebner all of Bay City.

John A. Huebner, Sr., Past Representative, Buried in Bay City

Funeral services for John A. Huebner of Bay City, a former state legislator of Matagorda and Jackson Counties, were held at 3 p. m. Sunday, March 1 at the First Presbyterian Church of Bay City with Dr. A. T. Dyal officiating.

A native of Matagorda County, Huebner was born September 4, 1897. Except for a few years spent in Houston where he was in the construction business, he had lived in Matagorda County most of his life. He was one of the initiators of the Matagorda Rice Farmers Co-Op, serving as its president for several years.

Following an illness of several months, he died in St. Luke’s Hospital in Houston Thursday night, February 27.

Accidental Shot Is Fatal To Man
S. M. Hughes Well Known Blacksmith Succumbs To Blood Poison Attack

S. M. Hughes, 74, a well known blacksmith and a resident of Bay City for many years, died at his home Thursday at 1 p. m. and will be buried this afternoon at 4 o’clock in Cedarvale Cemetery under the direction of Walker-Matchett, funeral directors.

Last Saturday night decedent while sitting in his room talking to his family was accidentally shot, when a young member of the family discharged a shotgun while attempting to slip it under the house. The load went through the floor wounding Mr. Hughes and his daughter, Mrs. May Isaacs.

The bullet struck Mr. Hughes in the leg and blood poison set up, resulting in death of the aged man.

Mr. Hughes is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Isaacs and Mrs. J. D. Hamilton of Rio Grande City and one brother, C. D. Hughes.

The Tribune extends its sympathies to the bereaved family.

Ivy Lou Yancey Humber

Mrs. Ivy Lou Yancey Humber, 78, died Sunday, Dec. 21, 1975 at the Bay Villa Nursing Home. Born in Campbell, August 13, 1897, she came to Bay City when she was 16 years old. She was a first grade teacher in Bay City Schools. She was a member of the T. S. T. A., Bay City Classroom Assoc., and a life-time member of the P. T. A. She is survived by one brother, J. D. Yancey of Dallas and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held Tuesday at 2 p. m. at the Sixth Street Church of Christ with Allen Brown officiating. Burial will be in Cedarvale Cemetery. The services are under the direction of Dick R. Elkins, Bay City Funeral Home.

Norma May Hunt
(December 14, 1931 - March 21, 2018)

Norma May Whitley Hunt, 86, passed away March 21, 2018. She was born December 14, 1931 in Boling, TX to Robert Bernie and Eva Mae Whitley.

Norma is preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 46 years, Harold Hunt; brothers Robert (Diddy) and Charles (Brother) Whitley, and step-daughter Linda Hunt Traylor. She is survived by many loving family members: son and daughter-in-law Tommy and Pamala Hunt; daughter Kelli Hunt; step-daughter and husband Judy and Jack Rhode; grandchildren David, Joey, Cole and Christine Hunt, Traylor Huitt, Rachael Vincent, Reid Whitley, Holly Vacek, Dean and Scott Sterling, and great-grandchildren Whitley and Levi Vacek, Tate and Teagan Whitley, Slone, Ty and Ellie Vincent.

Her greatest love was her family, who she spent many, many hours with. She so enjoyed taking care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as doing for her family. Her faith in God was unwavering. As a member of First Baptist Church of Palacios for 56 years, she taught and directed Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She was an avid and accomplished bridge player, and was also very active in the community, helping and volunteering whenever needed.

The family will receive friends and relatives 4:00-6:00pm Sunday, March 25 at Palacios Funeral Home. Services will be 10:00am Monday, March 26, 2018 at the First Baptist Church of Palacios with Rev. Chris Webb officiating. Interment will follow at Hawley Cemetery in Blessing. Pallbearers are David Hunt, Joey Hunt, Cole Hunt, Traylor Hunt Huitt, Levi Vacek and Chett Vincent.

Joe “Jack” Huron

Joe “Jack” Huron, 66, of Bay City will be held 2 p. m. Friday at the Taylor Brothers Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Kenneth Goodell officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City.

Mr. Huron was born Oct. 17, 1924, to Edward C. and Joe F. Holliday Huron in Weldon and died July 24, 1991, at Matagorda General Hospital.

He was active in the Civil Air Patrol in the 1960s, served on the city council in Baytown from 1962-1966, served as mayor pro tem in Baytown from 1964-1966, and retired from the Exxon Corporation. He was also a member of the Goose Creek Masonic Lodge 1192 AF and AM in Baytown and a 25-year member of the Grand Royal Arch Chapter of Texas. He also attended the First United Methodist Church in Flat Rock, Mich.

Survivors include his wife, Gloria Huron of Bay City; five daughters and four sons-in-law, Debbie Dudley of Houston, Tina and Kevin Peterson of Port Republic, Md., Tracy and Tom Ward of Jacksonville, Fla., Tommy and John Wild of Keatchia, La., and Kimberly and Chris Harvey of Palacios; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Randy and Lane Huron of Phoenix, Ariz., and Kevin Huron of Bay City; a brother-and sister-in-law, Donald M. and Ann Huron; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Edwina Welch; a brother, Doyle Huron; and a grandson, Chad Peterson.

Pallbearers are Greg Sexton, Richard Poklkuha, Arthur Lawrence, Bubba Smith, Keefer Davis and James C. Smith.

Arrangements are with Taylor Brothers Funeral Home, Bay City.
