Ervin Wayne Harrington, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at the age of 89 at his home on May 15, 2025. Wayne, as he was known to all, was born December 25, 1935, in Richmond, Texas to Albert Bartley Harrington and Edith Russell Harrington. Wayne graduated from Lamar Consolidated High School in 1954. He was a member of the Air Force Reserve from 1957-1963. In 1964, Wayne who always loved hunting and fishing began his career with Texas Parks and Wildlife Department where he devoted much of his life doing what he loved. His career with Texas Park Wildlife began in Port Arthur, where he took the Golden Triangle by storm. Wayne was all about the law and he took his job very seriously. Shrimpers and poachers had a new sheriff in town and he stood out. He got many accolades from his superiors and was written up in the newspaper a time or two on how he was ‘cleaning house’. He was in his element. His next post took him to Wharton County where he continued to do his best at keeping hunters and fisherman within the limits of the law. He was promoted to Regional Director for Region IV that moved him to Houston. He loved the job and his employees, but not the town. After some time in Houston Wayne decided he wanted to go back south and took on the position of District Supervisor for Victoria County where he enjoyed this area and open space much more. In 1993, he would end his 28-year career with Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. Beyond his professional life, Wayne was a proud 3rd Degree Master Mason, holding memberships in lodges in El Campo, Victoria, and Matagorda. He also held a 32nd Degree of the Scottish Rite. Wayne was an excellent marksman and loved to tell you the scientific names of birds and fish! His collections of guns and rifles was a history of his love of hunting from a young man, some of which he passed down to his grateful family. He was also an avid collector of pocketknives, though most of his collection was tragically lost in a 2012 house fire. Thankfully, he was able to share a few cherished knives with his children, sons-in-law, and grandchildren. In retirement, Wayne served as a bailiff for Wharton County and enjoyed times with his family and his bevy of animals that he had throughout his lifetime. Wayne was preceded in death by mother and father, Albert and Edith Harrington; sisters Bartley Jane Leightenheimer and her husband Carl, and Vivian Ruth Lindenberg. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Renee Harrington. He is also survived by his daughters Terri Harrington Gibson (Tommy Deskins), Jill Ann Aafedt (Eric), and Kristy Jane Harrington; his stepchildren Crisi Genera Fetters (Clay), Cheri Renee Sacco and Rick Walker Griffin; twelve grandchildren and two great-grandsons. A celebration of Wayne’s life will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City, with Rev. Lane Par-Due officiating. A reception will follow the service at La Casona, 2416 Avenue F, Bay City.

Christopher Wayne Harvey Sr., a beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 57 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his family and friends after a courageous battle with colon cancer. Chris was born June 22, 1968 in Palacios, TX to Wanda Seaman Johnson and the late Lonnie Carroll Harvey. He was a 1986 graduate of Palacios High School and a lifelong resident of Palacios. Growing up, Chris quickly discovered that he was a jack of all trades. He loved a challenge, and nothing was ever too hard for him to figure out. From taking apart his toys as a child to fixing any piece of equipment he could get his hands on as an adult, Chris always had a solution to the problem. In fact, during his hospital stay at Matagorda Regional Medical Center earlier this year, he proceeded to explain step by step to one of his nurses how to fix the noisy, leaking bathroom faucet that was driving him crazy. He had jobs from laying fiber optic cable across the Atlantic ocean to repairing tracks and equipment for Union Pacific Railroad to truck driving. You name it, he had done it. Chris’s pride and joy was his children. His unwavering dedication and love for each one of them never went unnoticed. You could always find him in the crowd at any event his kids were participating in, cheering them on. He gained the title of grandfather in October of 2023 and became affectionately known as C-Paw by his granddaughters. Chris was a giver. He’d stop what he was doing to help anyone, anywhere, at any time if it meant that he could make their lives a little easier. To know him was an experience all on its own. There wasn’t a serious bone in his body. When he was around, smiles and laughs were guaranteed. His quick wit, sharp mind, and all of his many talents will be dearly missed by all who were lucky enough to know him. Chris is survived by his mother and step-father, Wanda and Marshall Johnson, sister, Valerie Harvey Bell of Alvin, brother, Kevin Harvey (Seseley) of Palacios, eight children, Trevor Jones, Madeline Harvey Kruse (Steffen), Skylor Lambert, Mackenzie Lambert, Christopher Harvey Jr., Malinda Harvey, Channing Harvey, Mia Harvey, granddaughters Bailey Kruse and River Kruse, nieces and nephews, Hayden Harvey (Madeline), Caleb Harvey, Cassidy Bell Rush (Levi), Bruce Harvey, Andi Harvey, Charley Harvey, great niece and nephew, Ashton Harvey and Drew Harvey, and many extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Lonnie, grandparents, Freeman and Frances Harvey, W.O. and Thelma Seaman, and numerous aunts and uncles. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 1, 2025 at the Palacios Funeral Home from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. Funeral services will be Thursday, October 2, 2025 at 10:00am at the First United Methodist Church in Palacios. Following the funeral, graveside services will be held at the Palacios Cemetery. Please join the family for lunch at the Texas Baptist Encampment at 12:30pm. Pallbearers are Kevin Harvey, Hayden Harvey, Caleb Harvey, Steffen Kruse, Stanley Wright, Darrell Simons, and Travis Rogers. Honorary pallbearers are Robert Ledford and Billy Welsh. The family would like to extend a very special thank you to Joie Love Pena for the compassionate and devoted care that she provided during Chris’s cancer journey. Her kindness and support brought comfort and peace during this difficult time, and we are so deeply grateful for her selfless dedication to him.

Clement A. Heilker, 78, passed away peacefully at home on May 30, 2024, in Pflugerville, TX. Clem was born on May 22, 1946, in Baltimore, MD. His early years were spent living and working on a dairy farm with his brothers Benjamin, Phil, and Steve. As a teenager, he moved with his mother and brothers to Beaufort, South Carolina, where he finished high school. Shortly after graduating from Beaufort High School in 1965, he was drafted into the United States Army to serve in Vietnam. After leaving the Army, Clem moved to Port O’Connor, Texas, where he met his wife, Barbara, of 42 years. Together, they welcomed two daughters, Candace and Cristin. Clem spent over 30 years working for his brother, Ben, at Victoria Air Conditioning. Over the years, he took on various roles, including project manager and senior supervisor, where he was instrumental in overseeing major installations and maintenance projects. He retired in 2012 leaving behind a legacy of professionalism and integrity. While Clem was incredibly proud of his professional accomplishments, his greatest pride and joy came from his role as a father and grandfather. Clem had a special bond with his daughters, Candace and Cristin. While Clem adored his daughters, his favorite role was being a Grandpa to his two grandsons, Carter and Reese. He cherished every moment spent with them, creating lasting memories and sharing his passion for life. Clem's deep love for his family was evident in everything he did, and his legacy will live on through the lives of his daughters and grandsons Clem was known for his vibrant personality. He had a remarkable gift for connecting with people; he never met a stranger, as he could strike up a conversation with anyone. His family often joked that there would not be a funeral home big enough to hold all the people who would want to pay their respects. One of his favorite things was cars. In his younger years, he would rebuild old Corvettes. When life got too busy, he switched to just enjoying driving around and attending car shows with his Corvette. Clem’s loss will be deeply felt by all who were fortunate enough to have him in their lives. His warm presence brought joy to those around him, and his memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him. His stories, filled with humor and insight, never failed to bring smiles to those around him. Clement is survived by his wife, Barbara Penland Heilker of Pflugerville, daughters, Candace Heilker Mathes (Lonnie) of Reseda, California, Cristin Heilker Sellers (Jordan) of Midlothian, TX; brothers, Benjamin F. Bond Heilker Jr. (Gay) of Victoria, Phillip Heilker (JoJo) of Beaufort, South Carolina, Stephen Heilker (Cheryl) of Charleston, South Carolina and his grandchildren, Carter Mathes and Reese Sellers. Clem also leaves behind many nieces and nephews to cherish his memory. Visitation for family and friends will be Saturday, June 15, 2024 from 10-11 am at Rosewood Funeral Chapel with a funeral service to follow at 11 am. Clement will be laid to rest at Hawley Cemetery. Pallbearers are Jordan Sellers, Warren Heilker, Richard Smith, Lloyd Boedeker, John Hickman and Mike Duran. Honorary pallbearers are Benjamin Heilker Jr., Phillip Heilker, Stephen Heilker, Henry Penland, A.B. Black, Juan Reyes, Larry Schmidt, Darren Heilker and Mark Walton. Kenneth Dale Hewett, 87, passed away April 24, 2025, in Bay City. He was born in Anson, Texas on February 4, 1938, to Eddie Alton "Tudor" and Lula Belle "Chic" Hewett. When he was born, he weighed seven pounds but shortly after, dropped down to two pounds. He was taken to Abilene for surgery and was the first baby in history to survive this surgery. Ken attended school in Hamlin, TX and graduated with scholarships from McMurry and Sul Ross University for excelling in sports. After three years of college, he joined the army and was stationed a t Fort Riley, KS. From there, he was sent to Korea then to Fort Bragg, NC. While in North Carolina he met his beloved Louise on a blind date, 10 months later married on August 30, 1964, in Fayetteville, NC. After his military career ended, now married, he returned to McMurry to finish his bachelor's degree. He graduated in December 1964 and began his career teaching and coaching in Lohn, TX in 1965. In June of 1966 they moved to Colorado City, TX to see if he wanted to continue coaching. It was there that he decided neither coaching nor the sandstorms of West Texas were for him. He returned to Lohn as Principal and started working on his Master's and Administration certification at Texas State University. Once his education was completed, he received a call from Ed Lechler offering him an Assistant Principal's position at Canton Street School in Wharton ISD where he later became principal. By then, Ken and Louise had three beautiful, amazing children. For Ken to make it in time for the start of school, his youngest, Stacey, was taken straight from the hospital in Brady, TX to Wharton where he began Wharton's newest administrator on August 6, 1969. He grew up as a country boy, so gardening was in his blood. As a gardener, he tried to maintain one twice a year, one in the spring and one in the fall. He was great at all sports and even tried new ones that his family could participate in. Be it fishing, hunting, boating, camping, skiing (both water and snow), golfing, ball games, and swimming. Nothing was off the table. Ken loved school and the camaraderie that was formed. He was a dedicated school administrator for many years. He touched the lives of so many throughout his 43-year career. His passion for education was evident in the way he treated his teachers and students. His commitment to shaping young minds was accompanied by a nurturing spirit that left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of either working with him or being a student under him. He was the only administrator in Wharton to get Administrator of the Year. He was always so proud of his employees and the work they produced along with the students they taught. Kenneth is survived by his wife, Esther Louise; daughter Stacey Delaine Hewett (Ben) of Wharton; son Rondell Blake (Sandra) of Katy; grandson Mason Blake (Casey) of Weatherford; granddaughters Christie Nicole of Conroe; and two beautiful granddaughters, Reese Elizabeth and Hadley Grace Hewett. He also leaves behind his sister-in-law Rebecca Hales of Winterville, NC; brother Clark (Mary) Hewett of Forney, TX, along with several nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his parents and his first-born son, Shannon Dale Hewett. A memorial service is scheduled for June 28th. 2025, at 11:00am, at First Baptist Church, 507 North Fulton Street, Wharton, TX 77488. The family would like to give special thanks to all his wonderful neighbors and friends, as well as Dr. Nathan Nguyen, The Angels and caregivers that touched Ken's life.

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Erica Semeko Hilliard, who left us far too soon on April 25, 2025, at the age of 42. Erica was born on March 25, 1983, in Bay City, Texas, to Eric Hilliard and Victoria Garza. She grew up surrounded by love, laughter, and family, spending much of her childhood outdoors, playing with her sister Crystal and close cousins. From an early age, Erica’s bright spirit, kindness, and fierce loyalty to family were evident to everyone who knew her. In 1998, Erica welcomed her beautiful daughter, Adriana Hilliard, into the world, followed by the birth of her handsome son, Xavier Thomas, in 2007. Her love for Adriana and Xavier was boundless; they were the brightest lights in her life, and she found endless pride and joy in being their mother. A proud member of the Class of 2001, Erica built lifelong friendships with a tight-knit group who valued her loyalty, quick wit, and generous heart. She was the kind of person whose smile could light up a room and whose laugh was infectious. Erica loved deeply, lived courageously, and always found reasons to celebrate life’s small joys. Ambitious and determined, Erica pursued a college education with the goal of becoming an operator. After a spinal cord injury left her quadriplegic, Erica showed immense resilience and refused to let her circumstances define her. Instead, she channeled her creativity and passion for fashion into founding a successful online boutique, helping customers find designer goods and great deals while supporting herself and her family. Over the past 15 years, despite facing tremendous challenges, Erica’s spirit remained unbreakable. Her home was filled with love, laughter, and perseverance — largely thanks to the unwavering care and support of her mother, Victoria Garza, and her stepfather, Rick Brooks. Erica’s days were spent working hard for her customers, loving her family, and embracing life with courage and grace. She was preceded in death by her father Eric Hilliard; grandparents Nick and Mary Garza and Dorothy Hilliard Scott and Adair Scott; uncle Gomer Hilliard and cousin Gregory Ruddick. Erica is survived by her beloved daughter, Adriana Hilliard, and son, Xavier Thomas; her mother, Victoria Garza, and stepfather, Rick Brooks; her sister, Crystal DeWoody (Robert); her nieces, Raegan and Reese DeWoody; her nephew, Carson DeWoody; and a host of extended family and loving friends who will carry her memory in their hearts. Erica’s life is a testament to the power of love, resilience, and grace. Her spirit will continue to inspire all who knew and loved her, and she will be deeply missed. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM Friday, May 2, 2025 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. A rosary will be recited at 9:30 AM. Memorial service will be at 10:00 AM with Deacon Joe Ramos officiating.
