Apolonia Paula Jacobo, 31, of Bay City passed away Thursday May 2, 2013. She was born January 31, 1982 in Bay City to Estella Torres & Sahul Jacobo – Martinez. Paula was a life long resident of Bay City, and a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.

She is survived by her mother & stepfather: Estella & Fernando Vasquez; father & stepmother: Sahul & Maria Jacobo; maternal grandmother: Guadalupe Guzman & husband Edward; 3 sisters: Rachel Torres, Felicia Jacobo, and Jessica Moreno & husband Julian; 4 brothers: Sahul Jacobo Jr., Miguel Jacobo, Emanuel Jacobo, and Alex Torres & wife Kelly. Her paternal grandparents preceded Paula in death: Jose Jacobo & Margarita Martinez.

The rosary will be recited 6:30 PM Monday, May 6, 2013 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. The mass will be held 10:00 AM Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Father Gerry Cernoch officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck. Elizabeth W. James

James, Elizabeth W., 83, passed away in Richmond Friday, May 15, at the Polly Ryan Hospital. Mrs. James was born in Franklin, Iowa and lived most of her life in Texas. She was a member of the South Main Baptist Church in Houston. Funeral services were held Sunday, May 17, at 3 p. m. at the Bay City Funeral Home Chapel under the direction of Dick R. Elkins. Rev. W. D. Baker was the officiating minister and interment was in Cedar Vale Cemetery. Survivors include: 1 daughter, Mrs. James W. Gartrell of Bay City; one son, Morris C. Wagner of Los Angeles, California; one grandson, James W. Gartrell Jr. of La Marque; and three great grandchildren.

Herbert Melvin James

PALACIOS - Herbert Melvin James, 85, of Palacios passed away on Saturday, September 28, 2013. He was born September 18, 1928 in Glen Daniels, West Virginia to the late Russell and Ventura Gardner James. Mr. James was a manager of the United States Postal Service and was a Southern Baptist.

Survivors include his daughter, Pamela (Mark) Smith-Berry of Tyler, TX; son, Jerry (Debbie) James of Victoria; step-son, Jack (Dorothy) David; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Monday, September 30, 2013 from 6-7 at Rosewood Funeral Chapel. Services will be Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at 10 AM at Rosewood Funeral Chapel with Rev. James Collins officiating. Graveside services will be held at 3 PM at Forest Park Lawndale, 6900 Lawndale, Houston, TX.

Nathern James

Graveside services for Nathern James, 81, of Markham will be held 11 a. m. Friday at Hawley Cemetery with the Rev. Kenneth Goodell officiating.

Mr. James was born May 3, 1910, to B. F. and Ella Teddrick James in Scott County, Ark., and died April 8, 1992, at his home.

He was a member of the Markham Methodist Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2438, American Legion 649 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles 3232. He was also affiliated with the Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife Christine James of Markham; a nephew, Nolan James of Austin; and two nieces, Vickey Harthcroft and Ellender Burton.

Honorary pallbearers will be Winston Baker, John Wayne Bucek, Douglas Cronin, Timothy Danner, William Arthur Baker, Heath Thompson, Sam Turner, Bill Haskell, Marguerite Dawdy, Elsie Black, Evelyn Thompson and Gloria Carter.

Memorials may be given to the Markham Methodist Church or to the donor’s choice.

Oscar Jaramillo, Sr.

(September 20, 1936 - June 16, 2013)

Oscar S. Jaramillo, Sr., 76, of Bay City passed away June 16, 2013. He was born September 20, 1936 in Realitos, Texas to the late Manuel Jaramillo and Hortencia Salinas Jaramillo.

His wife Lorrine Garcia Jaramillo preceded him in death. Survivors include daughters Virginia Cruz and Sylvia Mann; sons David, Hector, Joe, Leroy, Luis Noe and Oscar Jaramillo, Jr.; brother Armando Jaramillo; 21 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.

A rosary will be recited at 6:30 PM Wednesday at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. Funeral mass will be 10:00 AM Thursday, June 20, 2013 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Msgr. Gerry Cernoch officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery.

Mrs. Nettie Alice Jarrell

Mrs. Nettie Alice Jarrell of this city died yesterday at 4 p. m. at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Adams. She was born March 16, 1910, in Payne County, Cushing, Oklahoma, and was married June 6, 1925 to Sammie Jarrell of this city.

She leaves to survived her her husband, her father and mother, three brothers, Charlie, Wallace and Edward, and two sisters, Willie Mae and Allie Joe; also Mrs. Nettie Jarrell leaves an infant baby girl.

Interment today at 3 p. m. at Cedarvale Cemetery.

A host of friends extend their deepest sympathy to the bereaved in their hour of affliction and join them in mourning their loss. May the God of all consolation comfort their hearts in this trying hour.

John Thomas Jasek, 31, of Portland, N. D., and formerly of Blessing, Texas, died on Sunday, March 29, 2000.

He was born July 8, 1968, in Bay City to Leonard and Helen Jasek of Blessing.

He graduated from Tidehaven High School in 1986, and was a graduate of Texas A & M University.

Leo Jensen

Funeral services for Leo Jensen, 88, of Sugar Land, were held Jan. 22, 2000 at Palacios Funeral Home with Buddy Griffith officiating. Interment followed at Hawley Cemetery.

Mr. Jensen was born Jan. 15, 1912 in Danevang to Jesse and Johnna Sorensen Jensen. He died Jan. 20, 2000 in Houston.

He was a farmer in the area for many years and was greatly loved by his family and friends.

Mr. Jensen is survived by his wife Geneva Blackwell Jensen, daughters and son-in-law Joy and Dermot Rigg and Lisa Jensen all of Sugar Land, son and daughter-in-law Ronald and Margaret Jensen of Spring, sisters, Anna Rasmussen of Galveston, Elna Curry of Corsicana, brothers Roy Jensen of Wharton and Teddy Jensen of Alvin.

Also, five grandchildren, Robin and Steve Williams, Jennifer and Matthew Crossland, Stephanie Rigg, Matthew Jensen, and Erica Jensen; two great-grandchildren, Britt and Taylor Williams.

Pallbearers were Matthew Jensen, Dennis Jensen, Matthew Crosland, Nathan Smith, David Hopkins, and Larry Varga.

Ronald Clint Jeremiah

Jan. 14, 1937 - Feb. 24, 2004

S. Sgt. F.C. (E9) Ronald Clint Jeremiah, 67, of Bay City, Texas died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2004, in his home. He was born on Jan. 14, 1937, in Short, to Ted and Mabel (Rosson) Jeremiah.

A private memorial service will be held for the family only at a later date. Arrangements were under the direction of Memorial Oaks Chapel Funeral Home of Brenham, Texas.

Mr. Jeremiah came to California in 1952 and attended Marysville High School. He started his 24 year Military duty in 1954, at age 17, in the U.S. Army, before retiring as an intelligence specialist. During his active duty service he was based at Fort Ord, Calif. and served in Okinawa and Korean conflicts and spent three years in Germany and served three duty tours and 18 months each in Vietnam. He was one of the highest decorated soldiers in the U.S. Army, presented with three Purple Hearts, two Bronze Stars, two Silver Stars, Medal of Honor, Air Medal for Meritorious Achievement of Bravery in 25 combat support missions completed in South Vietnam. He spoke Vietnamese, was fluent in three dialects, trained in special forces, dropped behind the lines, exposed to agent orange, assigned to the First Air Cavalry Division in Vietnam, recently received Korean Medal authorized by the Congress in 2002, for serving the Republic of Korea, 30 consecutive days or more after July 1954 and is eligible for Korean Defense Service Medal for sacrifice and service for defending South Korea. Military buddies still call him "Sarg" and say he's a real hero.

Mr. Jeremiah was a retired carpenter and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Bay City.

He married Elaine E. Palmer on Feb. 15, 1957, in Olivehurst, Calif.

Survivors include his wife, Elaine E. Jeremiah of Bay City; two son, Mark Jeremiah of Bay City and Robert Jeremiah of Olivehurst; two daughters and two sons-in-law, Ronda Pourner of Dangerfield, Donna and Al Gomez of Brenham and Teresa and Doyle Spradlen of Bay City; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Charles and June Jeremiah of Olivehurst; two sisters, Roberta Osgood of Yuba City, Calif. and Joyce Jeremiah of Live Oak, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Bruce and Bobby; one granddaughter, Whisper Spradlen.

Elaine Edna Jeremiah

Elaine Edna Jeremiah, 73, of Van Vleck, Texas, died April 20, 2012 at her residence.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 25 at Hawley Cemetery in Blessing.

Mrs. Jeremiah was born December 2, 1938 in Marysville, California to Harold and Edna (Morgan) Palmer. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include: her sons and daughter-in-law, Mark Jeremiah of Van Vleck and Robert and Laurie Jeremiah of Belton; daughters and son-in-law, Teresa Mendoza of Van Vleck, Ronda Pourner of Richland Hills and Donna and Al Gomez of Brenham; twelve grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by: her parents, husband, one granddaughter and one sister.

Donald Vernon Jessup

Masonic graveside services for Donald Vernon Jessup, 75, of Blessing will be at 4:30 p. m. Friday, June 12, 1998 at Hawley Cemetery.

Jessup passed away Thursday, June 11, 1998 at Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City. He was born Jan. 20, 1923 in Noblesville, Ind. to Oscar Jessup and Sarah Halycon Fisher Jessup. He was a resident of Blessing since 1964, a U. S. Army veteran of World War II, a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 211 of Blessing, and a member of the Gulf Coast Shrine.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Jean Jessup of Blessing; three sons, Michael B. Jessup and wife Vicki of Richmond, Patrick N. Jessup and wife Gayla of Richmond; and Marion D. Jessup and wife Susan of Palacios; a sister, Ruth Ann Musselman of Noblesville, Ind.; seven grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

He is preceded in death by a brother, Marion D. Jessup; and one great grandchild, Justin Norman.

Daisy Louise Johnson, little four-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. S. Johnson, died at the family residence at 5:30 p. m. yesterday after a brief illness of two days. Daisy Louise had an attack of croup Sunday night but Monday was all right and played with her little sisters. She was not feeling well yesterday morning and as the morning passed she became steadily worse until she passed away.

Funeral services were held from the Walker-Matchett Funeral Home this afternoon at 2 p. m. with Rev. E. G. Cooke officiating. Burial in Cedarvale Cemetery.

Elida Johnson

Mrs. Johnson was born June 25, 1913, to Daniel and Eliza Sowell Miller in Broadus and died 8:45 a. m. Sept. 30, 1991, at the Victoria Regional Medical Hospital.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Gail Lois and Howard Mosley of Palacios; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Lenadene Ramsey Johs

Funeral services for Lenadene Ramsey Johs, 76, of Bay City were held Tuesday, Dec. 16 at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Zimmerman officiating. Interment was at Hawley Cemetery in Blessing.

Lenadene Ramsey died Dec. 14 at Gulf Coast Medical Center in Wharton. She was born April 9, 1921 in San Augustine, Texas to the late Coy Chester Ramsey Sr. and Mary Magdalene Crocker Ramsey. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Missionary Class Sunday School Class. Mrs. Johs had been a resident of Bay City since 1950, a member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, the Bay City Book Review and Bay City Study Club.

She is survived by her husband, Erich Johs Sr. of Bay City; daughter, Wanda Foster of Spring, Texas; son and daughter-in-law, Erich Johs Jr. and Sandy of LaWard; sisters, Imogene Wheeler of El Campo and Elizabeth Bartlett of Lake Jackson; brothers, Merle Ramsey of Palacios and Coy Ramsey of Bay City; three grandchildren, David Johs of Bay City, Ramsey Foster of Austin and Erica Foster of San Antonio; three great grandchildren, Brandon Cornett, Alexandria Johs and Victoria Johs, all of Bay City. She was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene Ramsey.

Pallbearers were her nephews, Larry Schuelke, Sam Ramsey, Gene Wier, Dick Ellis, Paul Bartlett and Bruce Ramsey. Honorary pallbearers were nephews Robert Johs, Tony Johs, Edward Pennington, Rickey Ramsey, Coy Lee Ramsey, Bud Bates and Mike Demland.

WHARTON - Roy Lee Jones, 65, of Wharton, passed away Oct. 30, 2007. He was born Aug. 12, 1942, in Bay City, to the late George Thomas and Gladys Ocie Scott Jones.

Survivors include his daughter, Beverly Miller of El Campo; son, Steve Jones of Wharton; niece, Nancy Klaiber and husband Edwin of Sweeny; nephews, Mike Gassen Sr. and wife Linda of Brazoria and Larry Gassen Sr. and wife Regina of Resaca, Ga.; and two grandchildren, Dana and Jarret Jones.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Eva Gassen Hancock and brother, Fred Edward Jones.

Charles Edwin "Ed" Jopling Jr.

WHARTON--Charles Edwin "Ed" Jopling Jr., 75, of Wharton died Friday, Nov. 13, 1992.

He was born Dec. 4, 1916, in Wharton to the late Charles Edwin and Ida Damron Jopling Sr., Mr. Jopling served in the U. S. Army Air Corps during World War II and was stationed in India and China. He married the former Margaret Hollis French on May 29, 1942, in Wichita Falls. He graduated from the University of Texas with a degree in civil engineering.

Mr. Jopling was an engineering instructor at Wharton County Junior College until his retirement in 1979. After his retirement, he established a business until he retired in 1989. He was a member of the Wharton Rotary Club and First Baptist Church of Wharton.

Survivors: sisters, Mary Beth Ziegenhals of El Campo and Jeannette Gardner of Wharton; and brother, Thomas W. Jopling of Wharton.

Preceded in death by his wife on July 14, 1977.

Visitation: after 3 p. m. Saturday at Wharton Funeral Home.
