Emma Grace Jackson, passed away in Bay City, Texas, on October 30, 2014, at the age of 76.

Emma was born on December 24, 1937 in Victoria, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Barbara McCulloch; parents, Roe and Inez Fleming; brother Rick Fleming; and baby sister, Suzette Fleming.

She is survived by her husband, Le Roy “Pete” Jackson of Markham; son, Dennis (Terri) McCulloch of Bay City; grandchildren, Shannon (Bernardo) Pitel of Gulfport, MS, Heather (Clayton) Hales of Bay City, and John (Jessica) Lewandowski III of Duluth, Minnesota; great-grandchildren, John Lewandowski IV, Matthew Lewandowski, and Henri Pitel; mother-in-law, Mrs. Leroy Jackson Sr.; sister, Peggy (Jim) Friebele of Rockport; sister-in-law, Jeannie Fleming of San Angelo; and numerous nieces and nephews, including, Ben (Vanessa) Friebele of Rockport and Brandy (Clark) Hudson of Portland

A Family Remembrance was held on Saturday, November 8, 2014, at Town Square Restaurant, in Bay City, followed by “sharing memories” at the home of her son, Dennis.

Funeral services for William (Bill) Royce Jackson, 63, of Wimberley, were held on Tuesday, Aug. 26 at Pennington Funeral Home in San Marcos.

 

Bill was born February 24, 1951 in Palacios, Texas to Bill and Grace Jackson and passed away on August 27, 2014.

He attended Palacios High School, and continued his education at Texas State University, graduating in 1974 with a degree in psychology.
 

He enjoyed fishing, reading, and time with friends and family. He is best remembered for his humor and his ability to be the life of the party.
 

Bill is survived by his two sons Justin and Danny Jackson, daughter-in-law Janet, and granddaughter Ruby; brothers Clark, Robert, and John as well as sisters Mary and Sharilyn.

Daniel Jonathan Jager, 43, of Blessing passed away February 2, 2015. He was born May 22, 1971 in Austin, TX to Carl P. Jager and Jo Ann James Jager.

His mother preceded him in death. Survivors include his father Carl P. Jager of Blessing; sisters Andrea Jager of North Dakota and Debbie Jager of Blessing; brother Dennis Jager of Leander, TX and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside service will be 4:00 PM Thursday, February 5, 2015 at Hawley Cemetery with Rev. Louis Rush officiating.

Tom Lee Jager

(November 22, 1932 - January 28, 2015)

Tom Lee Jager, 82, of Blessing passed away Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at his residence. Tom was born on November 22, 1932 in Kendleton, Texas to the late Herman and Emile Merckel Jager. Tom worked as a heavy equipment mechanic and was also part owner of the Blessing Feed Store.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Paul John and Leroy Jager. He is survived by 3 brothers, Carl P. Jager, Mitchel Jager, and Raymond Jager.

A Graveside service will be held 3:30 PM Saturday, January 31, 2015 at Hawley Cemetery in Blessing with Rev. Louis Rush officiating. The members of VFW Post 2438 will conduct military honors.

Nathan Daniel Jahns, 37 of Katy, Texas passed away Sunday, October 6, 2013. He was born November 26, 1975 in Pasadena, Texas. As a young man he was an active member of the 4-H club, former United States Marine and at the time of his death was an apprentice plumber.

Burial will follow at Roselawn Cemetery in Van Vleck, Texas.

Henry Jesse Janise, 62, of Wadsworth passed away September 23 at Matagorda General Hospital.  He was a native of Louisiana and had been living in Wadsworth since 1927.  The deceased was a member of the Catholic Church and was employed as a mechanic with Farmers Canal Company.  Survivors include: wife, Agnes M. Janise of Wadsworth; daughters, Mrs. J. C. Rush of Port Comfort, Mrs. C. E. Sachtleben of Port Lavaca, Mrs. Carl Schurtz of Wadsworth, Mrs. Bryan Brown of Blessing and Mrs. M.E. Rouse of Bay City; 1 son, Henry J. Janise, Jr. of Palacios; sisters, Mrs. Loyd Bonnin of Lake Arthur, LA., Mrs. Paul Clement of Egan, La., Mrs. Eugene Martel of Beaumont, Mrs. Leo Daigle of China, Texas, Mrs. Hazel Strapp of Houston, Mrs. Lorraine Shay of Orange, Mrs. Marcell Loose of Markham; 18 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.  Rosary will be said at 7:30 pm at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home Chapel September 24.  Funeral services will be held at 10 am Tuesday, September 25, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Wadsworth wit Msgr. C. J. Martin officiating.  Interment will be at the Roselawn Memorial Park with pallbearers being: Eddie Janise, Harry Janise, Jr., Fred Janise Charles Hale, Walter Loose, and Henry Loose.  Arrangements are by Taylor Brothers Funeral Home.

Ken was born on July 31, 1954, in Bay City, Texas, to the late Kenneth Jarrett Sr. and La Verne Jarrett.

A lifetime resident of Matagorda County, he enjoyed fishing, golfing, antique shopping and spending time in his yard.

Ken surrounded himself with his family and loved spending time with them. Ken retired after 32 years at Phillips 66 and Chevron Phillips Chemical Company in Old Ocean, TX.

Ken is survived by the love of his life, Linda Garcia of Bay City; mother, La Verne Jarrett of Bay City; daughter, Jennifer Matura (Leonard) and children Joshua and Emily Matura of Smithville, TX; brother, Doug Jarrett (Judith) and children Matthew Jarrett (Lindsey) of Granbury, TX and Melissa Ursery (Travis) of Bay City; and sister, Jolene Watson (Bill) and children Will Watson (Cassandra) of Hondo, TX and Katey and Shannon Watson of Utopia, TX; step-daughter, Melinda Deleon (Kino) and children Reggie, Taylor and Kelly of Bay City; step-son, John Galindo (Tana) of Fort Hood, TX; step-son, Anthony Garcia and daughter Camryn of Bay City.

Donations can be made in lieu of flowers to the American Heart Association.

A memorial service was held at Taylor Brother’s Funeral Home on Monday, August 25, 2014, at 2 p.m.

Millerd Jenkins

Funeral services for Millerd Jenkins, 72, of South Houston will be held 4 pm Saturday at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home with the Rev. John Richardson officiating.  Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck.

Mr. Jenkins was born June 22, 1915, in Fayette, Ala., to George and Saraha Nichols Jenkins and died Sept. 17. 1987, at Matagorda General Hospital.

He was a veteran of WWII.

Survivors include two daughters, Gaynell Rodgers of South Houston and Dorothy Kieborz of El Dorado; a son, Eugene Jenkins of Bay City; three sisters, Ester Cornelius of New Mexico, Ethel Keys and Ila Jackson of Alabama; a brother, Chelsie Jenkins of Alabama; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers include Clifton Jenkins, Jimmy Kieborz Jr., Billy Rodgers Jr. Kenneth Hines, Michael Karl, Glenn Yauch and Douglas Jenkins.

Alexander “Cando” Jimenez Sr.
August 15, 1930 - August 3, 2014

Alexander “Cando” Jimenez Sr., went to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 3, 2014.

Alex was born on August 15, 1930 in Cuero, Texas, to the late Jose and Felecitas Munoz Jimenez, Sr. Alex was an avid hunter and fisherman. Alex was a loving father and grandfather. Alex proudly served his country during the Korean War in the Marine Corps. Alex proudly owned Alex’s Electric Service, a successful business for over 30 years. Alex was a faithful member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.

Alex is survived by his loving family, children, Yolanda Garcia of Cypress, Texas, Alex Jimenez Jr. of Bay City, Texas, Clara Aguilar and husband Johnny of Bryan, Texas, Andrew Jimenez Sr. and wife Joann of Bay City, Texas, and Anthony Jimenez and wife Betty of Van Vleck, Texas; grandchildren, Elisia Dement, Lena Reyes, Lori Garcia, Alex Jimenez III, Joshua Jimenez, Jacob Torres, Jared Jimenez, Andrew Jimenez Jr., Adrian-Drew Jimenez, Justin Rodriguez, Priseilla Jimenez and Selena Jimenez; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Eshmoel “Mayo” Jimenez and wife Rose; and brother-in-law, Librado “Lee” Rodriguez.

Alex is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Olivia Jimenez; and sister, Anita Charles.

Visitation was held from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, August 5, 2014, at the funeral home, with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6:30 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, August 6, 2014, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Monsignor Gerry Cernoch celebrant.

Rite of Committal will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.

Serving as pallbearers are Alex Jimenez III, Andrew Jimenez Jr., Joshua Aguilar, Jared Aguilar, Adrian-Drew Jimenez, Jacob Torres and Justin Rodriguez.

Honorary pallbearers are Jackson Dement, Matthew Reyes and Jordan Salazar.

The family would like to thank Houston Hospice and Shana Skutca.

Orlanda Jimenez

A Funeral Mass for Orlanda Jimenez, 58, of Palacios will be held at 10 a.m. on Wed. (Feb. 25) at 10 a.m at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Palacios.

Orlanda was born on May 20, 1956 in Mexico to the late Gregorio Montalvo and Maria Antonio Suarez Montalvo and  passed away on February 25, 2015

She is survived by her mother, husband; Jesus Jimenez, daughters; Eva Jimenez and Maria Antonia Montalvo of Palacios, son; Orlando Jimenez of Palacios, sister; Paula Montalvo of Mexico, grandchildren; Aljendro Gaona, Deigo Gaona, Jessie Jimenez, Orlando Jimenez Jr. and Taylor Alemia.

She was preceded in death by her father, and son; Jesse Jimenez Jr.

Pallbearer will be Orlando Jimenez.

Services were under the direction of Artero Memorial Chapels in Port Lavaca.

Jewel E. Johnson

Funeral services for Jewel E. Johnson, 81, of Nacogdoches were scheduled for 2 pm Sunday at the Capel of Cason, Monk-Metcalf Funeral Home, Nacogdoches, with Brother Reagan Sewell officiating. Graveside services will be 2 pm Monday at Roselawn Memorial Park, Van Vleck.

Mrs. Johnson was born Sept. 23, 1908, in Nacogdoches County and Died Jan. 4, 1990, in Nacogdoches.

She was a retired nurse.  

Survivors include three daughters, Helen J. Chilorz of Danville, Va., Billye J. Harmer of Bay City and Shirley A. Miles of Laguna Hills, Calif.; two sisters, Blanch Muckleroy of Woden, Texas, and Golda White of Nacogdoches; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. 

Pallbearers include Keith Strickland, Tom Strickland, Elbert Strickland, W. G. Muckleroy, Dr. Robert A. Smith, Dwayne Lawson, Terry Smith, and Robbie White.

In lieu of the usual remembrances, donations can be made to the 100 Club of Matagorda County or the Matagorda County Women’s Crisis Center.

Joseph Mack Johnson
11 December 1923 – 30 June 2014

PALACIOS - Joseph Mack Johnson was born in Palacios, TX on December 11, 1923 to the late Guy and Tenna Hubbard Johnson. He passed away at the age of 90 in Conroe, TX.

Mack spent two years in the US Navy and was stationed aboard the USS Collingsworth 146 as a Pharmacy Mate II. When he returned home from the service Mack and Adene moved to Victoria where he worked for Union Carbide for 37 years, upon retiring they moved to Conroe. He was a charter member of the John Wesley United Methodist Church of Victoria.

Mack married the love of his life Adene Starr of Palacios on April 1, 1941 and their union was blessed with two children, a daughter and a son.

He is survived by his loving wife of seventy-three years, Adene; daughter, Darla Jean Gordon and her husband, George of Conroe; two grandsons, David Gordon and wife, Amy, Greg Gordon and wife, Lisa; four great grandsons, Chris, Chase, Colton and Logan and his very loyal friend, Philip Walker.

In addition to his sweet parents, Mack was preceded in death by his five brothers, three sisters and his loving son, Joseph Mack Johnson, Jr.

Visitation and reception will be held on Thursday July 3, 2014 from 1-2 PM at Rosewood Chapel with the service to follow at 2 PM with Rev. David King and Rev. James Allen officiating. Military honors under the auspices of the Victoria Veterans Council will conclude the service.

Private graveside services will be held at Memory Gardens Cemetery at a later date.

Lela Estelle DeBusk Johnson
February 9, 1926 - September 21, 2014

Lela Estelle “Estie” DeBusk Johnson, 88, passed away on September 21, 2014.

Estie was born on February 9, 1926 to Charlie Mae and Charles Clayton DeBusk. Estie attended Texas Tech University for two years, where she met and married her husband Billy. She and Billy eventually settled in Corpus Christi, where they raised their family and made many friends. She was known for her southern kindness and hospitality and was devoted to her family, friends and church.

Estie is preceded in death by her husband, William “Billy” Johnson; her mother and father; and her son, B.C. “Tony” Johnson.

Estie is survived by her sister, Lexie Isom (Bruce); her loving son, Rick Johnson (Martha); daughter-in-law, Trisha Johnson; grandchildren, Tony Johnson (Allison), Coy Harvey (Andrea), Lexie Tarwater (Sean), Paige Johnson, and Rachel Johnson; great-grandchildren, Tristan Harvey, Portia and Presley Johnson, Sean Jr., Brandon, Kevin and Dylan Tarwater; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to Estie’s wonderful caregivers at the Legacy Assisted Living Campus.

Visitation was held at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City, Texas, Tuesday, September 23, 2014, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

A funeral service will be held at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 2200 Ave. E, Bay City, Texas, on Wednesday, September 24 at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Brad Sullivan officiating.

Interment will be at Seaside Memorial Park Cemetery, 4357 Ocean Drive, Corpus Christi, Texas, on Thursday, September 25, 2014, at 1 p.m.

Mrs. Johnson was born May 22, 1893, to Harrison M. and Mollie F. Porter Odell in Denison and died Dec. 14, 1990, at Bay Villa Nursing Home.  She was a resident of Bay City since 1961 and a former 32-year resident of Newgulf.  She was a member of the Baptist Church.  She is survived by her niece and nephew-in-law, Marie and Walter Gavender of Bay City; one nephew and niece-in-law, Harold and Martha Jane Wheat of Bay City. She was preceded in death by her husband.

Roxie Emma Dunlap Johnson
 

Mrs. Roxie Emma (Dunlap) Johnson, a resident of Pasadena, Texas, for the last five years and formerly of West Columbia, passed away August 6, 2007. She lived to be 100 years old having been born July 18, 1907, to Sarah Emma Dunlap and Doctor Meakins Dunlap of Rosefield, Louisiana.

Funeral services will be held at Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia, Texas, on Thursday, August 9, 2007, at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Danny Johnson officiating.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, August 8, 2007, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck.

Pallbearers are Glenn Daley, great-grandson; Bryan Daley, grandson; Danny Dahlgren, Tim Pelata, David Banks and Ray Johnson.

Honorary pallbearers are Joe Ori, Johnny Chancellor, Chris and Daniel Fabrygel, James Patterson and Joe Jackson.

Roxie married Robert (Bob) Johnson April 17, 1921, and they were married for 62 wonderful years. She was one of the sweetest people anyone could ever know and was the salt of the earth. She was an extraordinary woman with a tender heart, a strong faith in God and a limitless capacity to love unconditionally. She loved to sit out on her front porch, on a cool spring morning, drink a hot cup of coffee, gaze at her beautiful flowers and watch the hummingbirds fly around her feeder. She had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed sharing stories with family and friends. These special memories now have become jewels for her family to treasure forever.

When talking about her early life she said, "Times were hard then, but we didn't know it." However, she loved her new conveniences. Air conditioning, washer, dryers and clothes that don't have to be ironed were wonderful luxuries that became necessities. Two of her sons fought in WW II and her father fought in the Civil War. In 1943, she and her husband owned a shoe shop and then later owned and ran the Pit, a barbecue restaurant in West Columbia, Texas.

She is survived by her daughter, Roxie Marlene Johnson Miller of Lake Jackson; granddaughter, Carolyn Jean Davis Daley of Pasadena; great-granddaughters, Dana Carol Daley Pelata of Clear Lake and Angela Marlene Daley Banks of Deer Park; great-grandsons, Bryan Daniel Daley of Pasadena, Danny Curtis Dahlgren, Eric James Williams of Tekemah, Nebraska, and Jason Lee Reynoldson of Omaha, Nebraska; great-great-grandsons, Logan Alexander Pelata and Gavin Connor Banks.

She was born December 19, 1938, in Colton, New York, to Melvin James and Barbara Ruth Champney Young.

Loretta is preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Johnson; brother, Melvin Young; and sister, Barbie Young.

She is survived by sons, Steven Andrew Johnson of Bay City, Dennis William Johnson of Ft. Worth, and Martin Charles Johnson of Bay City; sisters, Charlotte Miller of Spencer Port, NY and Carolyn Bence of Rochester, NY; brother, Charles Young of Churville, NY; grandchildren, Johnathin B. William Phillip Johnson & Penola J. Johnson

Penola Jones Johnson

Penola Jones Johnson, born July 20, 1902 in Byspot, San Jacinto County, Texas.

Mrs. Johnson lived in Van Vleck, Texas from 1922 when she came to teach in the school system after obtaining her teachers certificate from Sam Houston Teachers College in Huntsville, Texas.

“Miss Penola,” as she was known to friends, was predeceased by her husband, William Phillip Johnson and her daughter Colleen Junge.

She is survived by: her daughter, Phyllis Matthews and husband Thomas S. Matthews of Van Vleck; and her son, W. Phillip Johnson, Jr. and wife Sandra H. Johnson of Houston.

Surviving grandchildren are: Carol Ann Pikett, Penny Jones, Dale Edward Junge, William T. Matthews, William P. Johnson III, and Stephen H. Johnson; great grandchildren David Clary, Stacey Hronas, Will Johnson, Rebekah Matthews, Elizabeth Matthews and Sarah Matthews; and great great grandchild Steve Hronas.

She is also survived by two brothers and one sister, M. C. Jones of Coldsprings, Texas, John D. Jones of Huntsville, and Lottie Price of Coldsprings.

Mrs. Johnson loved her church, family and community. A charter member of First Baptist Church in Van Vleck, she served as training union director, choir director and Sunday School teacher.

Funeral services were held at 11 am Monday, Dec. 13, 1999 at First Baptist Church in Van Vleck with Pastor Joe Ramsey officiating. Interment followed Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Van Vleck.  Pallbearers were her grandsons.

Mrs. Anna U. Johnston, 76, of Van Vleck passed away in Bay Villa Nursing Home November 26. Gary Ray Jones

November 14, 1947 - August 31, 2014

Gary Ray Jones, 66, of Van Vleck, Texas, was called home by Jesus, on Sunday, August 31, 2014, and is now running on greener pastures.

He was born November 14, 1947, in Bonne Terre, Missouri, to the late Ray Jones and Doris Miller Jones. Gary was a Vietnam Veteran and an avid fisherman. He was retired from the Van Vleck Independent School District as a school bus driver. Gary’s greatest joy was driving for the special needs children.

He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Gwynda Coston Jones of Van Vleck; four children, Jay Harvey and wife Stephanie of Goliad, Stephen Harvey and wife Tyrena of Van Vleck, Michelle Harvey Perez and husband Pete of Hillje, and Wesley Harvey and wife Michelle of Taylor; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother, Bryan Jones of Hazelwood, Missouri; step-dad, Gene LeClaire; beloved dog, Peyton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Charlene Carty.

The family received visitors from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, September 3, 2014, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City, Texas, with Robert Rodriguez officiating.

Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck, Texas.

Serving as pallbearers are Robby Zenker, Thomas Calk, Mike McMurrey, Rob Tourville, Brian Harvey and Josh Wetz.

October 3, 1950 - September 27, 2014

Funeral services for Cleve Bedford Jones, will be Saturday, October 4, 2014, 11 a.m., at Grove Hill Baptist Church, Pledger, Texas, with Pastor Derrick Blount, eulogist, and the Rev. Dale Clayton, presiding.

Burial will follow immediately after services at Grove Hill Cemetery in Pledger.

Viewing will be Friday, October 3, 2014 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., in the chapel of Green’s Mortuary, Bay City, Texas.

Cleve Bedford Jones, son of Leo Jones and Cleola Townsend, was born October 3, 1950, and passed September 27, 2014 at Memorial Hermann, Houston Texas.

He leaves to mourn his passing four children, Courtney Tucker (Tim) of Houston, Jennifer Johnson (Derrick) of Sweeny, Michelle Jones (Jessie James) of West Columbia and Cleveland Jones of Houston.

Kathleen Ann Jones

January 17, 1947 - September 12, 2014

Kathleen Ann "Kathy" Jones, 67, of Warren, Ohio, formerly of Bay City, Texas, passed away Friday, September 12, 2014, in Bay City after a 40-year battle with cancer.

Kathy was born January 17, 1947, in Youngstown, Ohio, to the late Robert L. and Mariam Braden Stauffer.

She moved to Texas in 1956 and graduated from Port Neches-Groves High School and Lamar University in Beaumont with a BS in Elementary Education.

In November 1965, she met the love of her life, James F. ( Jimmy) Jones, and they were married March 16, 1968, in Port Arthur. Their union was blessed with three wonderful children. Kathy taught school for many years. Most of her career was spent at Cherry Elementary in Bay City and Matagorda Elementary in Matagorda. In 2008, she and Jimmy fulfilled her lifelong desire to move back to northeast Ohio.

Survivors include her best friend and husband, Jimmy Jones of Warren, Ohio; her twin sons, Kenneth and wife Annette of Ireland, and Kevin and wife Mei of South Carolina; and her daughter, Allison Losoya and husband Joe Mike of Bay City. She also leaves her grandsons, Michael and Kyle Jones of Marietta, GA and Kristian Jones of TX; granddaughters, Annika (Blake) Trevino of Bay City and Kaleigh Jones of Bay City; step-grandchildren, Brian, Cameron, Elizabeth Losoya of Bay City; and great-grandchildren, Cadence Lee, Shaun, and Max Vaclavik and Khloe Jones of Bay City. Other survivors include her brother, Bob Stauffer and Dianna of Nederland; and a niece, Penny and nephew, Jay Stauffer; as well as numerous wonderful cousins in Ohio, Florida and Texas, and loving friends including Pam White, Pam Richardson, Laura Kling, Dixie Mattingly, Elaine Cox, Pam Morte, Brenda Harris and everyone at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.

Services will be held at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home, Bay City, Texas, at 2 p.m., Thursday, September 18, 2014.

Burial will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery, Bay City.

Visitation will be Wednesday, September 17, 2014 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home.

Mattie Lee Jordan, 97, of Sweeny, Texas, passed away from this life on Thursday, September 17, 2009, in Katy, Texas, holding her daughter's hand. She was born February 17, 1912, in Oakhurst, Texas, to William Gilmer and Grace (Barnett) Simms.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 23, 2009, at First Baptist Church in Sweeny, Texas, with the Rev. Jerl Watkins officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Van Vleck, Texas. Visitation will be Tuesday, September 22, 2009, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Baker Funeral Home, West Columbia.

Pallbearers will be Randy McDonald, Ken Jordan, Michael Jordan, Matthew Marshall, Steven Marshall, Hunter Williams, David Rogers, Joseph MacKinnon and Blake Rose

Honorary pallbearers will be Jordan Hutchison, James Jordan Jr. and the "Pink Ladies" of the Sweeny Hospital Auxiliary.

Mattie Lee is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, J.B. (Dick) Jordan; son, Joe B. Jordan; brothers, Frank, Jessie and Autry Simms.

She is survived by her daughter, Dixie McDonald; son, James R. Jordan and wife, Chris; sister, Mary Caldwell and husband, Gordon; grandchildren, Charlene Rogers, Carrie Lee Jordan, Ken Jordan, Linda Marshall and husband, Bill, Donna Rose and husband, Tony, Randy McDonald and wife, Kathy, Liz McDonald, James Jordan Jr. and wife, Chrissy, and Michael Jordan; along with many great-grandchildren, nieces, great-nieces, nephews and a great-great-grandchild.

Mattie Lee was extremely proud of all of her family and extended family and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. In the past, she was president of the Sweeny Civic Center, past president and active member of the Sweeny Hospital Auxiliary since Sweeny Hospital opened with more than 11,000 volunteer hours, director of Sweeny Chamber of Commerce, secretary of Sweeny School Board of Education, member of Sweeny Beautification Committee, Brazoria County Chairman of March of Dimes, Heart Fund, United Fund, TB Association and the Cancer Drive. A few of her accomplishments were Outstanding Woman of the Year 1956, Woman of the Year 1968, Columnist of the Brazosport Facts and the Houston Post.

Memorial donations may be made in her name to the Sweeny Hospital Auxiliary (Pink Ladies) or the First Baptist Church of Sweeny.

Funeral services for Lorine Joyner, 79, of Van Vleck will be at 2 pm Wednesday, July 21, 1999 at the First Baptist Church in Van Vleck with Rev. Joe Ramsey officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Van Vleck.

She died July 18 at Gulf Coast Medical Center in Wharton.  Mrs. Joyner was born Dec. 11, 1919 in Milton, Fla. To the late William and Annie Lee Justice Newman.

Mrs. Joyner was a member of the First Baptist Church in Van Vleck, where she made her residence since 1956.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Freddie Kile; son, and daughter-in-law Clayton and Sandra Joyner all of Van Vleck; grandchildren, Randy Joyner, Cindy Cox, Craig, Casey and Clinton Kile; three  great grandchildren, Brittany Tweedle, Sierra and Randy B. Joyner.

She is preceded in death by her husband William Leon Joyner, four sisters, Willie Palmer, Louise Justice Gann, Madge Richardson, and Lucille Dannelley and her great grandson Justin Tweedle, Jr.

Robert Jesse Juarez, Sr.

Robert Jesse Juarez, Sr. (Cheetah), 69 of Palacios, were held July 17 at St. Joseph’s Catholic  Church in Baytown with burial at Houston Veteran’s Memorial Cemetary where he was buried with full military honors.

Robert was born on August 23, 1944 in Goose Creek, TX, to Arnulfo and Luisa Villareal and passed away peacefully at home on July 14, 2014 with loved ones around him.

He lived in Palacios until his high school years. Robert moved to Baytown, TX soon afterward and decided to joined the Army. Robert proudly served our country from 1965-1967 as a Army PFC Radio Operator in Nhatrang, Vietnam. He worked for Laborers International Union, 313 Local 80 in Houston, Tx for 33 years. Robert retired in 2003 and returned home to Palacios, Texas until October 2013.

Robert loved to dance, hang out at Omar’s and watch sports on TV, especially Dallas Cowboy  football games.

Robert is preceded in death by his parents, Arnulfo and Luisa Villarreal of Palacios, TX; and his brother, Ancelmo (Al) Juarez Jr. of New Orleans, La.

Robert is survived by his wife, Petra Jimenez Juarez; his son, Robert Jesse Juarez, Jr. (Nancy); his biological father, Ancelmo Juarez, Sr.; daughters Leticia Ortiz, Melissa Juarez-Yearta (Wayne), and Monica Juarez; sisters Maria Alicia Villarreal Garza (Michael) and Eva De Leon (Anthony); along with 12 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter and many family members and friends who loved him dearly.

Anthony R. “Tony” Jurek


Anthony R. “Tony” Jurek, 57, of Van Vleck died Monday, April 29, 2002 in Van Vleck.

He was born December 14, 1944 in Bay City to Jim Vincent and Emilie E. Wick Jurek.

He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, and a production foreman for Amoco Production for 30 years. He served his country as a Corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps from May 1969 to February 1971 during the Vietnam conflict. His passions in life were fishing, hunting, and gardening. He loved outdoor parties with his family and friends.

Cooking for a crowd was a favorite past time, and he grew the best watermelons in Van Vleck. He gave away more vegetables than he kept. He loved life but was at peace with death. He will be missed more than words can say.

He is survived by: his wife, Kim Marie Brown Jurek; mother Emilie E. Jurek of Bay City; daughter, Tiffany Michelle Jurek of Huntsville; sons, Anthony Jurek, Jr., of Bay City, Vincent Troy Jurek of Houston; step-son, James Curtis Poole, Jr., of Van Vleck, brother and his wife, Jimmie Lee and Lois Jurek, grandchildren, David A. Jurek and Danielle Jurek both of San Antonio and by numerous nephews, nieces, and a large, loving extended family.

He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Edward Joseph Jurek.

Funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 1, 2002 at Holy Cross Catholic Church with Rev. Casey Jarzombek officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park with military honors.

Pallbearers include, Raymond Burl, Ed Vavra, Ralph Seidel, Wayne Roberts, John Jurek, Gary Kraemer, Gary Kraemer, Jr., and Eran Jones. Honorary pallbearer will be Steve Ivy of Bakersfield, CA.

BAY CITY - Emilie Jurek, 94, of Bay City, died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003.

She was born June 10, 1908, in Apache, Okla., to the late Edward and Emilie Wuerker Wick. She was a homemaker and a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and the Altar Society.

Survivors: son, Jimmie Jurek of Palacios; sisters, Rosie Jurek and Erna Jurek, both of Bay City, Frances Dornak of Lake Jackson and Elizabeth David of Carnegie, Okla., brother, Edward Wick of Carnegie, Okla., 14 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: husband, Jim V. Jurek; sons, E. J. Jurek and Anthony Jurek; and parents.

A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. tonight at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home chapel.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Cross Catholic Church, the Rev. Casey Jarzombek officiating.

Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck.

Joseph Frank "Joe" Jurek, Sr., 84, of Bay City, passed away Monday, Nov. 20, 2000. He was born April 8, 1916, in Fayette County, Texas to Joseph F. Jurek and Mary Krembling Jurek.

He was a farmer and a life-long resident of Matagorda County. He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles, No. 3232 in Bay City.

He is survived by: wife of 63 years, Rosie Wick Jurek of Bay City; daughters and sons-in-law, Anita and Henry Katzer and Rosalie and Tom Peterson, all of Bay City; sons and daughters-in-law, Joe Jr. and Judy Jurek of Bay City, Donald and Linda Jurek of Splendora, Patrick and D.D. Jurek of Bay City, and by Randy and Kathy Jurek of Bay City; sisters, Ann Kosler and Gertrude Goetz, both of Victoria; and by 24 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by: his parents, Joseph and Mary Jurek; son, Tony Jurek; four sisters; and three brothers.

The rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Chapel. The funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, at Holy Cross Catholic Church with the Rev. Casey Jarzombek officiating.

In loving memory of our mother, Rosie Wick Jurek, 98, who passed away August 21, 2014.

She was born October 30, 1915 in High Hill, TX, to the late Ed Wick and Amelia Brossmann Wick.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe F. Jurek Sr.; son, Tommy Jurek; and granddaughter, Shelly Fischer.

Survivors include her children, Anita Katzer Fanson (George), Rosalie Jurek Peterson (Tom), Joe F. Jurek Jr. (Eloisa), Donald Jurek (Linda), Pat Jurek (D. D.), Randy Jurek (Kathy) and Billy Wick; as well as numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; extended family and friends.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to all of the staff at Matagorda Nursing & Rehab Center for the loving care shown to our mother.
