Doretta Lacina
(January 11, 1921 - December 15, 2012)

Doretta Lacina, 91, of Brazoria went to be with her Lord on Saturday, December 15, 2012. She was born January 11, 1921 in Wisner, LA to the late Henry & Molly Hubbard Street. Doretta loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by her 2 daughters: Dee Taylor & husband John and Rhonda Weathers; daughter-in-law: Shirley Harvell; 8 grandchildren: Jake Taylor & girlfriend Courtnie, Stacey Weathers & husband George, Eric Weathers & wife Scarlet, Josh Weathers & wife Kara, Bryan Lacina & wife Paige, Tracey O’Neal & husband Sean, Brent Harvell, and Brandon Harvell & wife Jennifer; 14 great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives. Doretta was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Frank Lacina Sr.; Son: Frank Lacina Jr.; and grandson: John “J. J.” Taylor Jr.

The family will receive visitors from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at the Funeral Home. The funeral Service will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, December 20, 2012 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City with Rev. David Pate officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck. Pallbearers will be: Bryan Lacina, Sean O’Neal, George Villa, Eric Weathers, Josh Weathers, Brent Harvell, Brandon Harvell, and Jake Taylor.

Frank J. Lacina Sr.

Frank J. Lacina Sr., 61, of Sugar Valley died at Matagorda General Hospital Thursday, February 19.  He belonged to the First Baptist Church of Van Vleck, veteran of WWII and a resident of Sugar Valley since 1936.  Survivors include: wife, Doretta Lacina of Sugar Valley; daughters Mr. Rhonda Weathers of Sweeny, Mrs. B’Juana Taylor of Four Forks; sisters, Mrs. Ella Macek of Brazoria, Mrs. Josie Fisher of Richmond, Mrs. Betty Kahanek of Hallettsville; brother, Louis Lacina of Old Ocean; 5 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home Saturday, February 21, at 4:30 pm with Rev. Mike Zimmerman officiating.  Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck.

Pallbearers include Ben Towler, Earl Gibbens, John Alliniece, L. A. Peters, Joe Wyse and Wyatt Ashcraft.

Honorary pallbearers include E. E. Johns, Gene Windham, Robert Jones, Raymond Jones and Bud Stewart.

Funeral mass for Epitacio “Tacho” Landeros, 62, of Palacios, were held Nov. 8, 2005 at St. Anthony dePadua Catholic Church with the Rev. Charles Dwomoh officiating. Interment will follow at Palacios Cemetery.

Mr. Landeros was born July 9, 1943 at Torreon, Coah., Mexico to the late Manual and Virginia Cervantes Landeros. He died Nov. 6, 2005.

A Catholic, he was employed by Ace Hardware.

Survivors include the widow, Pola Gatica Landeros; step-daughters, Betty Sampogna, Minnie Rival, Eva Rivas Luna, Emma Garcia, all of Palacios; and Esther Rivas and Janie Rivas, both of Houston; step-son Daniel Rivas of Palacios and numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a step-daughter, Alice Rivas, and a step-son, Adam Rivas.

Pallbearers are Ephran Longoria, Gabriel Longoria, Martin Suniga, Sid Lopez, Oscar Garcia and Hector Ramos.

Artero Memorial Chapels of Port Lavaca was in charge of arrangements.

Gay Elaine Inglet Langerhans

Gay Elaine Langerhans, a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away from this life on Wednesday, November 2nd, 2011 just one month shy of her 73rd birthday.

Gay was born in Houston, Texas on December 3rd, 1938 to Leon and Anna Marie (Dieckert) Inglet. Raised in the Houston area, she graduated from Charles H. Milby High School. Just five days after meeting Roy Langerhans they married on July 6th, 1959. Their marriage fell short just a month of lasting 48 years at his passing on May 27th, 2007. They were blessed with two children, Dawn Elaine and Roy Jr.

After graduation and marriage Gay worked for Comet Rice until she found out she was expecting their first child Dawn Elaine. She enjoyed staying home being a housewife and mother, then just two years later Roy Jr. was born. They bought their first home in South Houston. Living there until 1968 when they moved to Cypress. Gay continued to stay home with the children, volunteering at their school and with other activities. She returned to the workforce in the early seventies working for Igloo Corporation and then The Houston Chronicle, were Roy was also employed, until their retirement.

In 1994 they retired to their bay home on Caney Creek in Sargent, Texas they had bought ten years earlier. Someone in Gay's family had a bay home in Sargent since the fifty's, including her parents. They enjoyed opening their home up to family and friends for fishing, boating, and jeep rides on the beach. If for nothing else, everyone would make the trip for Roy's barbeque and Gay's Potato Salad. Gay loved being with her grandchildren and felt so blessed to have two great grandsons born this year.

Gay is leaves behind her daughter Dawn Elaine Baranowski and husband, Steve of Cat Spring, Texas; son, Roy Evert Langerhans Jr. of Sargent Texas; grandchildren, Amanda Elaine Baranowski Perez and husband, Vito of Katy, Texas; Daniel Lynn Baranowski and wife, Jaime; Brett Steven Baranowski all of Cat Spring. Taalor Rae Langerhans and special friend, Rodney Crews of Sargent, Texas; Christopher Lee Langerhans of Magnolia, Texas; Great grandsons Vincent David Perez of Katy, Texas and Ryland Ray Crews of Sargent, Texas, numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Roy Evert Langerhans Sr., parents, Leon and Anna Marie Inglet; brother, Donald Guy Inglet.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Gay's name may be made to charity of your choice.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at 12:30pm at Forest Park East Cemetery in Webster, Texas.

Jimmy Wesley Lanmon

(January 5, 1940 - February 3, 2013)

Jimmy Wesley Lanmon, 73, passed away February 3, 2013. He was born January 5, 1940 in Robstown, Texas to the late John Wesley Lanmon and Christine Montgomery Lanmon. He served in the US Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.

Survivors include his son Glenn Lanmon of Leander, TX; sisters Barbara Cunningham of Palacios and Linda Beish (Robert) of Orange Grove, TX; brother Donald Lanmon of Corpus Christi; granddaughter Tiffany Lanmon of Austin and sister-in-law Phyllis Lanmon of Corpus Christi. He was preceded in death by two brothers Tommy and Glenn Lanmon.

Graveside services will be 2:00 PM Thursday, February 7, 2013 at Hawley Cemetery with Rev. Louis Rush officiating.

PALACIOS -- Esther Lara, 58, of Palacios, died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002.

She was born Oct. 13, 1943, in Valle Hermoso, Mexico, to the late Jose and Guadalupe Davila Santana.

She was a homemaker and a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church.

Survivors: husband, Magdaleno Reyes Lara; son, Gilbert "Gil" Lara of Austin; sisters, Guadalupe Lopez of Laredo and Anita Neyra of San Antonio; brothers, Emilo Santana and Gabriel Santana, both of San Antonio and Jose Santana, Jr. of Nuevo Laredo, Mexico.

Preceded in death by: son, Jesse Lara; brother, Oscar Santana; and parents.

Mary Louise Latta
(March 30, 1947 - January 24, 2013)
 

Mary Louise Latta, 65, of Bay City passed away January 24, 2013. She was born March 30, 1947 in Heavener, OK to the late Carmel Thompson and Jimmie Rae Thomas Thompson. She worked for many years as a teacher and social worker.

She was preceded in death by two infant sons Robert and Jonathan Latta. Survivors include her husband of 43 years Andy Latta of Bay City; daughters Andrea Lindley of Palacios, Amanda O’Neal & husband Bryson of Hollister, MO and Abbigail Davis & husband David of Bay City; sons Thomas Latta of Victoria, TX and James Latta & wife Jessica of Poteau, OK; brother Carmel Thompson of Heavener, OK; 7 grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 5pm until 7pm Friday at the funeral home. Funeral service will be 3:00 PM Saturday, January 26, 2014 at the Bay City Baptist Church with Rev. Lee Watson officiating. Graveside service will be 10:00 AM Monday, January 28, 2013 at Heavener Memorial Park in Heavener, Oklahoma.

Josephine Izorah Halliday Leadford, 86, of Mertzon, Texas, formerly of Hallettsville and Palacios passed away Tuesday September 12, 2000 at San Angelo Community Medical Center in San Angelo, Texas. She was born August 28, 1914 in Coriscana, Texas to Mary Tennie Jones and George Roger Halliday. She was a resident of Palacios most of her life and graduated from Palacios High School in 1932. Funeral services will be held Saturday September 16, 2000 at 10 a.m. at the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Brett Moreland officiating.

"Nanny" as everyone called her, was a caring and loving, but strict mother, grandmother and great grandmother to many. She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law Larry Ashley of Copperas Cove, Texas, and Jerry and Jane Leadford of Medina; two daughters and sons-in-law Robin and Ray Posgay of Friendswood and Carla and Jim Reeves of Mertzon, Texas; sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law Leona Bluhn of Three Rivers and Velma and Robert Byers of Palacios; a niece Mary Ruth Tassler of Port Lavaca, nephew, Jack Halliday of Houston; a cousin Tom Jones of San Angelo, Texas; grandchildren, Jenny and Ronnie Kite of Belton, Karen and Fabrice Sueoka of Kempner, Cindy Kite of Batesville and Lydia and Shawn Randall of Killeen, Tim Leadford and wife of Midfield, Tate and Dawn Leadford of Houston, Paige Leadford of Medina, Joseph and Debra Anderson of San Angelo, James and Tami Anderson of Mertzon, James and Traci Reeves of West Columbia, Jennifer Reeves of Grand Prairie, Brian and Dawn Bowers of Angleton, Keith Bowers, Paula and Mike Sharp of Friendswood, Helen and Lee Knezek of Bay City, Blair Rowton, George Bittle of Matagorda and Jody Harvey of Houston. She is also survived by numerous great great grandchildren and her companion of 12 years "Missy", her chihuahua.

She was preceded in death by her devoted husband Walter L. Leadford in May of 1992, her parents, a brother Carl S. Halliday, a daughter, Dolly Leadford Bittle, three grandsons and two great grandsons. She has resided in Mertzon, Texas, with her daughter Carla and son-in-law for the past four years and has given them great joy and blessing.

Pallbearers will be Charles Mize, Kenneth Smith, Bobby Walton, Jack Beard, Herbert Schneider, and Don Hyett. Honorary pallbearers, John Ressler. The family would like to especially thank Debbie Karademis of Mertzon and the Girling Home Health Care of San Angelo. The caring nursing staff of Med/Telefloor of San Angelo Community Medical Center. We had the pleasure of these people in our homes and lives with Mama living with us and helping us to care for her for the past four and a half years.

Funeral services for Hazel LeBlanc, 94, of Palacios, were held March 21, 2003 at the Palacios Funeral Home. Internment followed at Palacios Cemetery.

Mrs. LeBlanc was born March 25, 1908 in Crowley, LA to the late Lucien and Cecile Arcineaux Savoie. She died March 19, 2003 in Bay City.

Mrs. LeBlanc is survived by her daughter, Jeannine Hunter of Marietta, GA; her son, Patrick LeBlanc of Grand Prairie, TX; six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry LeBlanc.

Funeral services for Dorothy Estelle Legg, 83, of Bryan, Tx. were held Jan. 2, 2003 at Palacios Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Shamburger officiating.

Music on harp was provided by Scott DeVos of Victoria. Interment was at Palacios Cemetery.

Mrs. Legg was born Sept. 15, 1919 in Chalmers, a small community outside of Bay City, to the late Charles Lamond and Ida Estelle Dickert Dorsey. She died Dec. 30, 2002 at Crestview Retirement Community in Bryan.

She married her childhood sweetheart, Ray William Legg in Yuma, AZ. on March 9, 1940. During their 62-yr. marriage, they lived in California, Oklahoma, and Texas (Alvin, Angleton, Marble Falls, Cuero, Victoria and Bryan). Dorothy was a homemaker and loved cooking for her family and sewing for her daughters. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Victoria. She moved to Bryan the last year of her life to be near one of her daughters.

She is survived by two daughters, Cathy McCormick of Victoria and Donna Beto of Bryan; a grandson, Joseph McCormick of San Antonio; and great-grandson, Andrew Joseph Campbell of Spring.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray William Legg; her parents; and her brothers, Ray Dorsey of Edna and Donald ‘Dink’ Dorsey of Freeport.

Pallbearers were Carlton Dorsey, James Daniel Legg, Calvin McCormick and Joseph McCormick.

Johnny Leggett

PALACIOS - Johnny Leggett was born July 17, 1962 in Pearson, Georgia to the late John and Eula McCormick Leggett. He passed away on Sunday, November 4, 2012.

At an early age Johnny moved to Brunswick, Georgia and spent most of life bringing joy to his family and all who knew him.

Johnny leaves to cherish his memory his sister, Bettye Leggett Knight of Fredericksburg, Virginia; three brothers, Roosevelt Leggett of Boynton Beach, Fla., Tony Leggett of Jacksonville, Fla., and Larry Leggett of Riviera Beach, Fla; three nieces and five nephews; with additional family members and friends.

Linda Sue LeMaster

(April 17, 1944 - October 28, 2012)

Linda Sue LeMaster, 68, of Bay City passed away Sunday, October 28, 2012. She was born April 17, 1944 in Fouke, Arkansas to the late Uel P. & Tonita Lurlene Martin O’Dell. Linda was a longtime resident of Bay City, and worked at STP as a Tech Librarian.

Linda is survived by her life companion: Tommy Wymack of Bay City; 2 sons: David Scott LeMaster of San Antonio and Richard Troy LeMaster & wife Angela Marie of Murrieta, California; sister: Tonita Foster of Las Vegas; brother: Wilbur O’Dell of Texarkana, Arkansas; 8 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held 3:00 PM Saturday, November 3, 2012 at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck with Chaplain Don Storey officiating.

Carrie Faniel “Mama Carrie” Lewis

Funeral service for Mrs. Carrie Faniel “Mama Carrie” Lewis, age 94, of Bay City, will be held Saturday, November 25, 1995, at 3 p. m. at New Hope Baptist Church in Bay City with Rev. T. L. Richardson officiating. Burial will follow at Eastview Cemetery in Bay City.

Family will receive friends from 8-9 p. m. at Green’s Mortuary Chapel, and Saturday from 2-3 p. m. at the church.

Mrs. Lewis was born in Hawkinsville, Texas, Matagorda County, March 1, 1901, to Henry Faniel and Eugenia Tellison, and died November 21, 1995, at her residence in Bay City.

Survivors include her husband of 43 years, the Rev. John Lewis of Bay City, four daughters and one son-in-law, Mrs. Dorothy DeLoach (and Joe), Mrs. Josephine Drake, Mrs. Mary L. DeLoach and Mrs. Bernice Williams, all of Bay City, and two sons and one daughter-in-law, Saul Andrews of Hitchcock and Sammie Andrews (and Ester) of Houston. Also two step-sons and one step-daughter-in-law, Andrew Lewis of Bay City, and James Lewis (and Frankie) of Markham.

Also one sister, Mrs. Thelma Gulliant of Conroe, and six brothers, Norris Faniel of Oakland, CA, William Faniel and A. J. Faniel of Needville, Charlie Faniel and Sam Faniel of El Campo, and Eddie Faniel of Bay City; 87 grandchildren, 180 great-grandchildren, 29 great-great-grandchildren. Two devoted grandsons she reared, David L. Green, Jr. of Bay City and Delwin Morgan of Houston.

A host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and a family of friends who knew her as “Mama Carrie.”

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Faniel and Eugenia Tellison, one daughter, Melvinia Andrews Moore, one son, Robert Andrews, Jr., and one step-daughter, Nettie Lee Lewis Wiggins, one brother Tilton Tellison, one sister, Rosie Lee Giles.

“Mama Carrie” was a faithful member of New Hope Baptist Church, where she worked faithfully and proved to be a good follower during her lengthy life. Her hobbies included fishing and her Sunday evening drive with her husband.

Active pallbearers include her great-grandsons, Larrick Bankston, Robert Brown, Joulvous Drake, Broderick Franklin, Tequil Franklin, William Green, III, Phillip Minifee and Rodrick O’Neal.

Honorary pallbearers include the Deacons of New Hope Baptist Church.

Helen Lewis
(May 11, 1935 - September 20, 2012)
 

Mary Helen Lewis, beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt and grandmother, passed away on the afternoon of Sept. 20, 2012. Her family rejoices in the fact that she has gone home to be with her precious Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ.

Helen was born in Linden, TX May 11, 1935 and was the oldest of five children born to Emmitt & Almer Smith. She was married to James Edward Lewis and lived most of her adult life in Van Vleck, TX where they raised four children.

She is survived by children Gail Denn & husband Vernon of Bay City, Mark Lewis & wife Leila of Bay City and James Lewis & wife Sherry of Brazoria; daughter-in-law Benny Lewis of Bay City; brothers Harold & Horace Ray Smith; sister-in-law Nadine Bowman; grandchildren Jason Lewis, Danny Denn & wife Bobbi, Tammy Smith & husband Trey, Brian Lewis & wife Robbie, Seth Lewis, Sadie Lewis, Joshua Lewis, Brittany Lewis & Tiffany Lewis; five great grandchildren and numerous nieces & nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Emmitt & Almer Smith, husband James Edward Lewis, son Larry Lewis, granddaughter Bridgette Lewis and sister Glenda Matura.

Horace Lewis Jr.

Funeral services for Horace Lewis, Jr., 62, of Bay City were scheduled for 2 p. m. Sunday at Jesus Free Will Holy Temple Church in Bay City with Elder Clifton Turner officiating. Burial will be in Eastview Cemetery in Bay City. Visitation hours will be until 9 p. m. Saturday at Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home Chapel, 1300 Duncan St.

Mr. Lewis was born March 6, 1930 in Bay City to Catherine Fields Lewis and the late Horace Lewis and he died on Aug. 18, 1992 in Matagorda General Hospital.

He was a member of the Church of God in Christ.

Survivors include his mother, Catherine Lewis of Bay City; three sisters, Minnie Ola Manning, Mary Jane Sidney and Hazel Marie Johnson, all of Bay City; five brothers, Perry King Lewis, Prince Lewis, Hezekiah Lewis and Lloyd Lewis, all of Bay City, and Edgar Lewis of San Diego, Calif. Also, one aunt, Evelyn Fields Thomas of Bay City; four uncles, Lawyer Fields and the Rev. John Lewis, both of Bay City, Nathan Lewis of Brazoria and George Lewis of Houston; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers are Charles Brown, Eugene Fields, Jimmy Fields, Anthony Lewis, Shane Lewis and Johnny Sidney, Jr. Honorary pallbearers are Edgar Lewis, Hezekiah Lewis, Lloyd Lewis, Perry Lewis and Prince Lewis.

Mr. Lewis was preceded in death by his father, Horace Lewis, a brother, Floyd Lee Lewis, and a sister, Earline Virginia Peters.

Lance Patrick Lewis

Funeral services for Lance Patrick Lewis, 29, of Houston will be held 11 a. m. Saturday at Enterprise Baptist Church with the Rev. A. H. Pointer officiating. Visitation will be until 9 p. m. today at Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home and from 10 to 11 a. m. Saturday at the church.

Mr. Lewis was born July 9, 1963 in Bay City and he died Nov. 1, 1992 at Hermann Hospital in Houston.

He was a former resident of Bay City.

Survivors include his mother, Irma Lewis Green of Houston; a sister, Wanda Willis of Houston; a brother, Dexter Lewis of Houston; two aunts, Arlene West of Dallas and Dorothy Johnson of Oakland, Calif.; an uncle, Lester Lewis Jr. of Albuquerque, N. M.; two nieces, Katrina and Christina Willis, of Houston; three nephews, Dontay, Tony and Troy Willis, of Houston and a number of great-aunts and uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lester and Willie Bouldin Lewis and an aunt, Alnita Lewis Stanford.

Mary Helen Lewis

She was preceded in death by: her parents, Emmitt and Almer Smith; husband, James Edward Lewis; son, Larry Lewis; granddaughter, Bridgette Lewis; and sister, Glenda Matura.

He was born April 23, 1917, in Citrus Grove, to the late Cosme and Anita Marmilijo Llanes. He was a retired crane operator at Alcoa Aluminum Co. and a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Alcoa Aluminum 25 Year Club.

James O. “Sonny Man” Lockett

Funeral services for James O. “Sonny Man” Lockett, 63, of Bay City, are scheduled for 2 p. m. Saturday at Mother Zion Baptist Church in Bay City with the Rev. K. J. Griggs officiating. Burial will follow in Eastview Cemetery in Bay City.

Mr. Lockett was born Feb. 20, 1931, in Bay City to Tommy Lockett and Opal Smith Davis and died March 30, 1994, in Veterans Administration Hospital in Houston.

A 1947 graduate of A. G. Hilliard High School, he later attended Prairie View A&M University. He enlisted in the U. S. Army where he served three years in the Korean War.

Survivors include his mother, Opal Davis of Bay City; a sister, Joe Ann Davis of Bay City; two brothers, Alphonse Revis of Houston and Judge John P. Davis of Beaumont; a son, Julius Anderson of Bay City; a great-aunt, Thelma Wooldridge of Texas City and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Mr. Longoria was born March 17, 1944 in Palacios to the late Charlie and Faustina Longoria. He died July 14, 2003. He was a commercial fisherman and a Presbyterian.

David C. Longoria, 69, of Blessing, died Oct. 23, 2000, at his residence in Blessing. He was born Dec. 4, 1930 in Kennedy, Texas, to the late Francisco and Natividad DeLaCruz Longoria.

Mr.Longoria was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Blessing and a resident of Blessing for the past 50 years.

Services for Jesus Maria Longoria, of Bay City, will be held at 11:00 AM, December 31, in Our Lady Of Guadalupe Catholic Church, with the Rev. J. P. Shannon officiating.

 

Mr. Longoria, 53, was born on November 2, 1930, in Beeville. He was a resident of Bay City for over 30 yeas. He died December 29, 1983, in Gulf Coast Medical Center.

 

He is survived by: his wife, Magadelena Pena Longoria of Bay City; his parents, Jesus M. and Irene Longoria of Monterrey, Mexico; three daughters, Mary Helen Martinez, Irene Mirales and Susan Longoria, all of Bay City; two sons, Jesus M. Longoria III and Pete Longoria, both of Bay City; one sister and nine brothers, all of Monterrey, Mexico; and, six grandchildren.

Reymundo C. Longoria, 76, of Blessing, Texas died February 25, 2005 at the Palacios Community Health Center.

He was born September 1, 1928 in Pettus, Texas to the late Francisco and Natividad DelLaCruz Longoria, Sr.

Mr. Longoria was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy, where he was the base guitar player, and was a life-long resident of Blessing.

Esther Zepeda Lopez
July 28, 1927 – Sept. 26, 2012

Mrs. Esther Zepeda Lopez, 85, of Bay City passed away on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at a Clear Lake Hospital following an extended illness.

She was born on July 28, 1927 in Bay City, Texas, daughter of the late Guadalupe and Lina Rodriguez Zepeda.

Mrs. Lopez was a longtime resident of Bay City. She was a homemaker all her life and enjoyed fishing, sewing, puzzles and crafts. She also enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Esther was preceded in death by: her daughter, Emma Landriault; and sons, Sammy and Michael Montoya.

Funeral services were held on Monday, October 1, 2012 at the Chapel of Wharton Funeral Home with the Rev. Alex Lopez officiating.

Burial followed immediately in the Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City.

Survivors include: her son, Don A. Montoya and wife Gloria of Angleton; daughters, Esther Anzaldua and husband Manuel of Corpus Christi, Eva Guzman of Texas City, and Elva Mendiola and husband Baldemar of Houston; son-in-law, Johnny Landriault of Bay City; sisters, Ruth Orozco of Corpus Christi, Sara Franco of Bay City, and Martha Guzman of Bay City; brothers, Isaac Zepeda of Wharton and Paul Zepeda of Houston. She is also survived by her 19 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Johnnie Mae Lothridge, 83, of Columbus, Texas died June 27, 2004 at her residence. She was born August 3, 1920 in Broadus, Texas to the late Burton B. and Annie Bell Norris Stanley.

Mrs. Lothridge was a resident of Columbus the past three years, and a former 63-year resident of Palacios. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Columbus and a former member of the First Baptist Church in Palacios. She also was a member of the Palacios Eastern Star and was Matron several times.

Survivors include: husband, Joseph F. Lothridge of Columbus; two daughters and a son-in-law, Virginia Valenta of Bay City and Judy and Ronald Hanzik of Aiken, South Carolina; son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Debbie Lothridge of Columbus, Texas; seven grandchildren, Brad and Lauren Mann, Denise Valenta, Valerie Henson, Vanessa McFadin, Matt Torregrossa, and Ricky Bateman; and two great-granddaughters.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Beulah Fox; and her brothers, C.B. Stanley and W.H. Stanley.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 30, 2004, at the First Baptist Church in Palacios with the Rev. Hollas Hoffman officiating. Interment will follow at the Palacios Cemetery.

A resident of Bay City, he was a veteran of World War II and served in the U. S. Army. He was a Baptist.

Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Albirda Woodard of Bay City; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lillian Luddington Brown and the Rev. Isaac Brown of Houston and Deavolyn Luddington Mitchell and Freeman Mitchell of Houston; a son, Clemith J. David Luedecke, 52, passed away on December 12, 2012.

He was born on July 30, 1960 to Lawrence and Eva Luedecke.

His father, Lawrence Luedecke, preceded him in death.

He is survived by: his mother, Eva Luedecke; his three brothers, Gene, Donald, and Kenneth Luedecke; his three children, Jordan Hipp, Rachel Luedecke, and Stephen Luedecke; and his two grandchildren, Trae Mejares and Callie Hipp. He is also survived by many nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.

Vera Ruth Anderson Lusk
June 6, 1935 – Sept. 20, 2012

Vera Ruth Anderson Lusk was born on June 6, 1935 in Mills County Texas.

Ruth was the third daughter of Charlie Victor and Lillie Bell Shipp Anderson.

Ruth grew up in central Texas in the Goldthwaite area. Shortly after World War II her family relocated to Austin, Texas. She graduated from Austin High School in 1953.

In 1955, Ruth married R.Q. Lusk and relocated to Bay City, Texas where he was employed as an engineer for Central Power and Light. They raised their two sons, Robert and John, there.

Ruth was active in the 6th Street Church of Christ for the entire time that she lived in Bay City, teaching third grade Sunday school for nearly 40 years. She was also a Cub Scout den mother with Pack 51 while her sons were in Cub Scouts. Her friends, family, and neighbors fondly remember her annual Christmas cookie baking.

In the mid 1990s, following her husband’s death, she bravely reinvented her life and moved across country to Portland, Oregon. Here she was an active member of the Portland First Christian Church. She was well-known in her neighborhood in northeast Portland, where she walked every day and took coffee and conversation at Peet’s coffee.

She passed away on September 20, 2012.

She is preceded in death by her parents and husband.

She is survived by: her son, Dr. Robert Lusk and his partner Christopher Bailey (her third son to hear her tell it), and her son, John Lusk; as well as her sisters, Charlene White (James), Lois McClean, and Jo Anderson; along with many nieces and nephews and many good friends and neighbors who loved her dearly (both in Oregon and Texas).

The family will welcome friends for viewing at Taylor Bros Funeral Home from 4 until 6 p.m. on Wednesday evening, September 26, 2012.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 27, 2012, at Cedarvale Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Harvest House food bank c/o Nichols Street Church of Christ or the Oregon Food Bank in Portland, Oregon.

Taylor Bros. Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Charles Luther

Funeral services for Charles Luther, 88, of Palacios will be held 11 a. m. Tuesday at Palacios Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Bernard Ritchea officiating. Burial will be in Palacios Cemetery.

Mr. Luther was born Sept. 7, 1899, in Whitney, Texas, to Thomas Monroe and Laura Gollihar Luther and died 1:45 a. m. March 21, 1988, at Wagner General Hospital, Palacios.

A resident of Palacios since 1921, he was the owner and operator of the Luther Hotel in Palacios. He was chairman of the Seawall Committee and former mayor of Palacios. He was the former owner of Bayshore Chevrolet and a former Gulf wholesaler for over 50 years.

He served with the U. S. Army during World War I in France.

Survivors include a daughter, Claire Joy Dilworth of Tilden, Texas; a son, Charles M. (Buddy) Luther of Houston; a brother, retired Col. Henry Luther of San Antonio; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are with Taylor Brothers Funeral Home, Palacios.
