September 15, 1915 – July 22, 1920

A Deplorable Accident

Little “Doc”, the six-year-old son of Mrs. Max Landrum and grandson of Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Bond, met his death yesterday in a terrible way and will be buried in Cedarvale Cemetery tomorrow morning at 10 o’clock.

The unfortunate little fellow was playing with his baby wagon in the yard where a tub of boiling water was being used for the family wash. Into this he backed and fell, receiving scalds and burns from which death soon ensued.

Mrs. Landrum and her parents and family are heart-broken and are receiving the sympathy of their numerous friends over the untimely and heart-rending death of their precious little baby boy.

The sorest trial of a newspaper is to chronicle a death of any kind, but when one the nature of this one occurs, when try as hard as we can, we can find no reason why it should be, we find it impossible to find words expressive or adequate enough to speak the sorrow and anguish of our heart.

We can only write the facts and wonder why such things have to be and impart to bereaved ones the deepest and sincerest sympathies we can express.

The sweetest thing God ever put on earth is a child and, if we had our way, none would be taken, but the inevitable law decrees otherwise, and we must abide the results in sorrowful silence and meek submission to an Omnipotent will.

Raymond Dale Loyacano
March 5, 1932 – March 6, 2013

Ray Loyacano was born March 5, 1932 in Houston, Texas to Dale and Wilmoth Loyacano.

After graduating from Austin High in 1951, he moved to the Sweeny, Texas area and spent 38 years employed by Phillips 66 in Old Ocean, Texas.

Early on, Ray spent his spare time dabbling in cattle ranching, a little bit of farming and car body repair at Vic’s Body Shop. He raced cars and motorcycles and was an avid member of the Sweeny Muduro Club. His love of family and a motorcycle race introduced him to the love of his life, his cherished wife, Frances. Ray was a good father and shared his love of nature and competition with his children. He always had time for his kids, whether to haul a trailer loaded with horses to a youth rodeo or motorcycles to a motocross track.

After retiring from Phillips in 1994, he and his wife, Frances, built their dream home on the banks of the Colorado River in Matagorda, Texas. Ray valued nature and being outdoors, there he lived out his passion for fishing the banks of the river, caring for his citrus grove and nurturing his faith in Jesus Christ.

Ray was a fair, just and gentle man, best known for his soft heart and sincere, easy smile. He always made time. If you needed a helping hand, a shift swap, fence repaired, livestock fed, an ear to bend or just a story to make you laugh, Ray was your man.

Ray is preceded in death by: his baby sister, Betty Loyacano, and leaves behind his wife of 38 years, Frances; his sister, Barbara Spears and husband, Bobby of Katy and brother in law, Wesley Wilmoth of Houston.

He was a prankster, jokester, and loving grandfather to his nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was loved dearly and will be missed greatly.
