Marcelina A. Sanchez
June 2, 1922 - November 1, 2015

Marcelina A. Sanchez, 93, of Bay City, TX, passed away November 1, 2015.

She was born June 2, 1922, in Edgar, TX, to the late Vincente Arroyo and Anita Rosas Arroyo. She was a faithful lifetime member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, a life member of Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 2438, and an avid bingo player.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Doroteo Sanchez Sr.; two sons, Federico Sanchez and Ruben Sanchez; and a grandson, Jacob Sanchez.

Survivors include her daughter, Anna Florow (John); sons, Doroteo Sanchez Jr. (Melissa) and Roberto Sanchez; sister, Timotea Cavazos; brothers, Gregory Arroyo (Ernestine) and John Arroyo (Olive); daughter-in-law, Nieve Sanchez; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and numerous great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., Thursday, November 5, 2015, at Taylor Bros Funeral Home, Bay City, TX.

A rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m., Friday, November 6, 2015, followed by Funeral Mass at 10 a.m., at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Bay City TX, with Msgr. Gerry Cernoch officiating.

Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery, Bay City, TX.

Pallbearers will be Joshua Sanchez, Dustin Sanchez, Joe Sanchez, Federico Sanchez Jr., Cornelio Adams and Doroteo Sanchez III.

Grace Susan Schneider
(January 28, 1930 - January 30, 2011)

Grace Susan Schneider, 81, of Bay City passed away Sunday, January 30, 2011. Grace was born January 28, 1930 and has been a resident of Bay City since 1948. She was preceded in death by her husband Marvin B. Schneider and brother Rodney Cavallin. Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law Berny and Pam Schneider, Dennis and Kathy Schneider and sister Jan Hales all of Bay City; brothers John Cavallin of Coon Rapids, MN and Marshall Cavallin of Bumpass, VA; grandchildren Chris, Brian, Jonathan and Aaron; and great grandchildren Landon, Emilee, Jacob, Cole and Kira all of Bay City.

Mrs. Schneider was a member of Family Worship Center. Psalms 116:15 “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints.” Grace was a beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother and will be greatly missed.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 6pm to 8pm Tuesday at the funeral home. Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at the Family Worship Center with Rev. James Guerrero officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons Chris Schneider, Brian Schneider, Jonathan Schneider and Aaron Schneider and nephews Gary & Kenny Hales.

Marvin B. Schneider

April 30, 1925 – July 24, 1999

 

Funeral services for Marvin B. Schneider, Sr., 74, of Bay City, were at 10:00 AM Monday, July 26, 1999, at the Family Worship Center in Bay City, with Rev. Joe Roach officiating. Interment followed at Cedarvale Cemetery.

 

Mr. Schneider died July 24, 1999, at The Legacy-Matagorda House Healthcare Center. He was born April 30, 1925, in Shiner, Texas to the late Alfred Emil and Rosie Annie Schumann Schneider.

 

Mr. Schneider was a member of Family Worship Center where he had served as a Deacon for twenty years, Psalm 116, v. 15 – “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.” He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He had been a resident of Bay City since 1948, and was a manager of Napa Auto Parts until his retirement in 1994. He and his wife of 52 years, Grace Susan Cavallin, were married at Palacios in 1947. They were blessed with two sons, Marvin B. “Berny”, Jr., and Dennis Wayne.

 

He was preceded in death by: sisters, Gladys Rice and Lille Marek, and brothers, Walter, Louis, Melvin and Ted.

 

He is survived by: his wife, Grace; sons and daughters-in-law, Berny and Pam, and Dennis and Kathy; grandchildren, Chris, Brian, Jonathan and Aaron, and great-grandson, Landon Christopher. He is also survived by: sisters, Ruby Mae Boettcher of Palacios and Olga Kusak of Needville; brothers, Edgar of Bay City, Weldon of Houston, Alfred of Point Comfort, Herbert of Palacios and Dickie of Port Lavaca.

 

Pallbearers were grandsons, Chris Schneider, Brian Schneider, Jonathan Schneider and Aaron Schneider, and Andrew McGinty and Martin Rodgers. Arrangements were with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home.

Margaret Gilmore Seerden

March 22, 1915 – October 25, 1999

 

Funeral services for Margaret Gilmore Seerden, 84, of Bay City, will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, October 27, 1999, at First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Tom Crowe officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery. The family will meet friends on Tuesday from 6:00-8:30 PM at Bay City Funeral Home.

 

Mrs. Seerden died on Monday, October 25, 1999, at her residence. She was born in Bay City on March 22, 1915, to H. G. and Mae Savage Gilmore.

 

She was a very active member of First United Methodist Church and numerous civic and historical groups, including The Mary Rolph Marsh Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution, the Cradle of Texas Chapter of Daughters of the Republic of Texas, the Henry Boston Chapter of Daughters of the American Colonists, the E. S. Rugeley Chapter of United Daughters of the Confederacy, the Flora Luncheon Garden Club, The Chautauqua Club, The Bay City Book Review Club, The Matagorda County Fair Association, The Matagorda County Historical Commission, The Matagorda County Genealogical Society, The Eastern Star, and she was a life member of the Girl Scouts of America and the P.T.A.

 

She is survived by: son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Linda Seerden of Victoria; daughter and son-in-law, Theresa LeTulle and James Brady of Galveston; grandchildren, Margaret Brinkly of Dover, Delaware, Martha Kaye Brady of Denver Colorado, Heath Alan Seerden and Daron Joseph Seerden of Victoria; great grandchildren, Catherine Brinkly and Elizabeth Brinkly of Dover, Delaware and Taylor Olivia Seerden of Victoria.

 

Pallbearers will be: Major Chaplin Melvin Brinkly, Heath Seerden, Daron Seerden, Irving Savage, John Wykoff, and John Elliott. Honorary pallbearers will be: Melvin Epstein, Robert Holland, Frances Savage and Edwin Holloway.

 

Memorials can be made to the First United Methodist Church, the Bay City Public Library, the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, or to the donor’s choice.

Carol Ann Seiferman

December 15, 1942 - October 1, 2015

Carol Ann Seiferman, 72, of Lago Vista, returned home to be with her Heavenly Father on Thursday, October 1, 2015

She was born on December 15, 1942, in Paris, TX, to the late Raymond and Leota Hodges Kitchens.

Carol was a registered nurse BSN for many years, until her retirement. She loved to relax on her patio and feed the deer, and also spoiled her many grandchildren and great-grands. She had a gentle playful spirit, loved children, and supported St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital for many years. She was a devoted sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and the ultimate encourager.

She is preceded in death by her parents; infant brother, Jerald Kitchens; brother, Charles Kitchens; and sister, Doris Worrell.

She is survived by daughter, Natalie Domhoff (Rick) of Pittsburgh, PA; sons, Bobby Seiferman (Kathleen) of Round Rock, Curtis Seiferman (Debbie) of Pflugerville, and Jeff Seiferman of Lago Vista; sisters, Betty Fields of Waxahachie and Frankie Gilbert (JP) of Powderly, TX; grandchildren, Leslie Mabry (Dallas), Grant Seiferman, Emily Seiferman, Luke Seiferman, Marissa Seiferman, Jessie Seiferman, Allison Seiferman, Katelynn Seiferman and Curtis Seiferman Jr.; great-grandchildren, Elle and Dallas Mabry Jr., ex-husband, Bob Seiferman of Bay City, and nephews, John Worrell, Paul and Chad Foster; and other loving family members.

A memorial service will be scheduled in her hometown of Paris, TX, in November.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you give a generous gift to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, in Carol’s name.

Ruby L. Shawler

July 5, 1924 – July 19, 1999

 

Funeral services for Ruby L. Shawler, 75, of Victoria, will be Thursday, July 22, at 10:00 AM, at the Bay City Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery.

 

She died Monday, July 19, at Citizen’s Medical Center in Victoria. She was born July 5, 1924, in Bay City, to parents Louis Frank and Leona Socha Kocurek.

 

She was preceded in death by: her husband, James A. Shawler, in 1995.

 

She is survived by: her mother, Leona Kocurek of Bay City; sons, George Clements of Victoria and James A. Shawler, Jr. of Pasadena; daughter, Mary Katherine Alexander of Yorktown; sisters, Vera F. Clements of Bay City, Flossie M. Dreher of Bay City, and Thelma V. Gelber of Wharton; grandchildren, John N. Cole III of Germany, Anthony Shawler and Scott Shawler of Highlands, and Clayton M. Alexander of Yorktown.

Arthur Roy Sheeran

Funeral services for Arthur Roy Sheeran, 75, of Palacios, are scheduled for 2 p. m. today at First Baptist Church in Palacios with the Reverends Hollas Hoffman and Hollie Briscoe officiating. Burial will follow in Hawley Cemetery in Blessing.

Mr. Sheeran was born May 27, 1918, in San Diego, Texas, to Bernard and Roxie Sheeran and died Dec. 27, 1993, in the Palacios Bay Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Palacios.

In World War II, he served as a volunteer in the 1st Cavalry Battalion and saw combat in the South Pacific and Philippines. Following the war, he went to the oil path to work in various parts of Texas. In 1952, he moved to Palacios. He joined First Baptist Church and became an active deacon. He was employed by Sun Oil and worked there for 30 years. Following his retirement, he and his wife traveled extensively, but enjoyed their home on the South Bay. Family and church were Arthur’s paramount devotions.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Baines Sheeran of Palacios; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mariana and Dennis Young of League City and Vikijane and David Blomberg of Palacios; two sons and daughters-in-law, Henry and Kathy Sheeran of Midland and the Rev. Ben and Evelyn Sheeran of Victoria; a brother, Tom Sheeran of Hebbronville and grandchildren, Robert Young of League City, Michael and Michelle Sheeran of Midland, Joseph, Jacob, Daniel and Matthew Blomberg of Palacios and Jonathan and Juleana Sheeran of Victoria.

Pallbearers are Robert King, Billy Hamlin, Richard Sanders, Bobby Kunefke Sr., John Lee and James Kubecka.

Blanchetta Sheppard

Blanchetta Sheppard, of Markham, TX, passed on November 3, 2015.

Blanchetta was predeceased by her husband, Alexander Sheppard Sr.; her son, Alexander Sheppard Jr., her daughter, Geanetta Lee Smith; and her grandson, Rosevelt Smith Jr.

She is survived by her five grandchildren, Alexander Sheppard III, Jonathan Sheppard, Erica Sheppard, Marshandria Smith and Marshall Smith; six great-great-grandchildren; and five great-great-great-grandchildren.

Mabel Mangum Sherry

May 8, 1911 – March 3, 1999

 

Funeral services for Mabel Mangum Sherry, 87, of Bay City, were Saturday, March 6, at 2:00 PM, at the First Pentecostal Church with Rev. Sam Starks and Rev. Marvin J. Moore officiating. Interment followed at Cedarvale Cemetery.

 

Mrs. Sherry was born May 8, 1911, in Bay City, to the late J. J. and Hallie A. Mangum, Sr. and died March 3, 1999, at John Sealy Hospital in Galveston.

 

She was a member of The United Pentecostal Church and a life-long resident of Bay City.

 

Survivors include: daughter, Shirley Ann and husband Rev. Jesse T. Jones of Palacios; sons, Eugene Hershall Sherry and wife Bobbie of Bay City and Rev. Lee Roy Sherry and wife Becky of Vantau, SW Pacific; brothers, John J. Mangum, Jr. of Reno, Nevada and V. Glen Mangum of Bay City; 10 grandchildren, Daphine Lynette Taylor and husband Rev. Samuel Taylor of Brookshire, Texas, Tonya Annette Smith and husband Mike of Bay City, Crystal Lynn Finch and husband Karl of Brandon, Mississippi, Roy Mitchell Sherry and wife Carolanne of Fort Worth, Rev. Mrs. Silvas died December 28, 1999, at her residence. She was born February 28, 1931, in Bay City, to the late Baldomero and Estella Gomez Acosta.

 

Mrs. Silvas was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, a lifelong resident of Bay City, and was a retired seamstress for People’s Laundry.

 

Survivors include: husband, Genaro C. PALACIOS - Joe M. Solis, age 85 of Palacios passed away on Wednesday, September 16, 2015. He was born November 10, 1929 in Palacios, Texas.

William Joseph Spacek Sr.
August 2, 1940 - November 16, 2015

William “Bill” Joseph Spacek Sr., of Ganado, TX, returned to the arms of his Creator, on November 16, 2015.

Born on August 2, 1940, the first born of William Frank and Victoria Eleanora Machicek Spacek, Bill was a loving, kind-hearted son, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

He graduated from Ganado High School as Valedictorian of his class.  He attended Wharton County Junior College, where he starred in numerous musicals, as he did at the Sam Houston State University Drama Department.

Bill received two Bachelor of Arts degrees from Sam Houston, his first in Choral Directing, and his second in Industrial Arts.

For 26 years, Bill was a dedicated teacher, beginning his career at Assumption Catholic School in Ganado.  He taught school for the Wyndam ISD at the Goree Women’s and Ferguson Units in Huntsville, TX, before moving his family to Bay City, TX, where he taught Industrial Arts at Bay City High School, for 19 years.

His greatest joys were spending time with his family, working with wood, and fishing.  Time fishing with his family was the BEST of times, instilling that same love in his children and grandchildren.

Music played an important role in his life, some of his greatest moments were as Choral Director at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Bay City.  He will be long remembered for his magnificent bass voice, especially by the Holy Cross Choir and the Assumption Catholic Church Choir in Ganado.

Bill was proud of his service in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves, he is a member of the Ganado American Legion Post 346, where he served as Bugler for several years.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Mary Frances; his first wife, Ila Sheffield; and his granddaughter, Angel Spacek.

Bill is survived by his wife of 41 years, Mary Sturrock Spacek; five children, Victoria Wimberely, Angela Hamilton, Jennifer Anderson, William Spacek Jr. and James Spacek; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Visitation was held Wednesday, November 18, 2015, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a Rosary recited at 7 p.m., at Ganado Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral Mass was held Thursday, November 19, 2015, at 10:30 a.m., at Assumption Catholic Church with Father Jim Harnan officiating. 

Interment followed at Assumption Catholic Cemetery in Ganado, TX.

Willard Ford Stanford

September 9, 1901 – May 28, 1999

 

Funeral services for Willard Ford Stanford, 97, of Bay City, were 2:00 PM Monday, May 31, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home, with Rev. Sam Starks officiating. Interment followed at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City.

 

Stanford died May 28, 1999, at Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City. He was brn September 9, 1901, in Marion County, Texas, to the late John O. and Ossenior Horton Stanford.

 

Mr. Stanford was a member of the Apostolic Pentecostal Church, a resident of Bay City since 1928, and a retired gauger with Skelly Oil.

 

He is survived by: his wife of 67 years, Alva Lela Meadors Stanford of Bay City; two daughters and sons-in-law, Ural Lee and Bill Donohoe and Joyce and Robert Hammock, all of Bay City; two half-sisters, Bee Hudspeth of Auroa, CO and Marvle Bissett of Austin, TX; two half-brothers, T. J. Duncan of Kingsville and Jessie Duncan of Portland; six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

 

He was preceded in death by: his three brothers, Ural, Rex and Fred Stanford; by half-sister Erma Wallace; half-brother Ollie Duncan, and one grandchild Buddy Hammock.

 

Pallbearers were Bruce, Roger and Terry Donohoe, Tony Hammock, James Starks, and Terry Stephenson.

 

Arrangements were with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home.

Robert E. Stewart

Robert E. Stewart, 74, of Bay City, Texas, passed away at his home on September 13, 2015.

He leaves behind a son, Kevin; daughter, Jennifer; and best friend and ex-wife, Joan Ryman Williams.

He is preceded in death by his son, Darren; mother, Gertrude Stewart; and father, Charlie Stewart.

He was so kind and a comedian in his own way. September 13, 2015, was the day the laughter stopped.

The family wishes to thank Bethany Home Health caring for Bob those years, and Hospice of Houston for their caring, as well.

Melissa from Bethany was a good friend to Bob, and he truly loved her for caring for him and making him laugh so much.

He will be missed by his family in Louisiana, Steve, Frank & Carol; also by Beau, the family dog.

He will be missed every day, and forever, in our hearts.

Private services have been held.
