Funeral services for O. J. Walker of Bay City, 70, will be held 4 pm Monday at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home Chapel James Davis officiating.  Burial to follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, Van Vleck.

Mr. Walker was born Oct. 18, 1919 in Old Gulf to Lee and Isabel Pearl Schmerber Walker and died March 30, 1990, at Avalon Place Nursing Home, Wharton.

He was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy.

Survivors include his wife, Lotus Brannon Walker of Bay City; two daughters, Barbara Gorley of Tidewater Oaks and Margaret Walker of Dallas; six sons, Joe Seller of West Columbia, Richard Sellers of Bay City, Johnny Sellers of Smiley, Texas, Otto Jacob Walker Jr. of Nipton, Calif., Albert Walker of Bay City and Thomas Walker of Blessing; a sister, Gussie Lee Butler of Houston; two brothers, Jerry G. Walker of Bay City and Martin L. Walker of Nederland; 34 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers include Michael Sellers, David Seller, Mark Walker, Marty Walker, Jody Sellers; John Sellers Jr., D. C. Gorley, Jr., Jimmy Gorley and James Lowery. 

He was preceded in death by two children, Lorna Jean Lowery and Leonard Calvin Walker. Arrangements are with Taylor Brothers Funeral Home, Bay City.

Lillian Laxson Walleck

Funeral services for Lillian Laxson Walleck, 78, of Houston, formerly of Bay City, will be held at 11 am Wednesday at the Taylor Brothers Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Craig Ashcraft officiating.  Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park, Van Vleck.

Mrs. Walleck was born Jan. 8, 1908, in McLennan County, Texas, to David Alexander and Georgia Deggs Laxson and died April 20, 1986, in Houston.

Survivors include three daughters, Faye Westphal of Seattle, Wash., Dorothy Sanders and Koleta Shepherd, both of Houston; four sons, Valline Walleck of Alvin, LeRoy Walleck of Spring and Joe and Gary Walleck, both of Houston; two sisters, Lois Anderson of Pledger and Erma Lee Campbell of Palacios; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers include Darren, Durwood and Dennis Anderson, James Cepek, Perry Laxson and Gene Leppard.

Nellie Watkins

Funeral services for Nellie Watkins, 78, of Markham will be held 2 pm Wednesday at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home Chapel with The Rev. William Haskell officiating.  Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park, Van Vleck.

Mrs. Watkins was born Sept. 22, 1910, in Marlin, Falls County, Texas, to Joseph Arthur and Reselee Przybilski Gilmore and died 6:15 am, November 13, 1988 at Matagorda General Hospital, Bay City.

A resident of Markham since 1940, she was a member of the Markham Methodist Church and a former member of the Rebekkah Lodge. 

Survivors include her husband, Frank Watkins of Markham; a daughter, Shirley Watkins Armintor of Lake Jackson; two sons, William Collier of Lake Jackson and Bobby Watkins of Webster, nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

In lieu of the usual remembrances, contributions can be made to the Markham Methodist Church or the Heart Fund.

Martha Ann Smith Whisenant

Martha Ann Smith Whisenant went to her permanent home with her Savior in Heaven on August 12, 2018. A career educator, Martha encouraged and empowered thousands of math students in her years of teaching at Mansfield and Burleson ISDs and the University of Texas at Arlington. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, sibling, grandmother and great-grandmother by her family. Always a strong Christian lady, she entered Heaven from her home in Matagorda, Texas surrounded by her comforting family after an extended courageous battle with cancer.

Martha was born May 16, 1942 in Forth Worth, Texas to Paul Samuel Smith and Melissa Evergreen Hudson Smith. She married the love of her life, Elmer Howard Whisenant on January 24, 1959. She graduated from Mansfield High School in three years in 1959. Martha continued her pursuit of education after her children were born, culmination in a PHD in Math from UTA.

Martha is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Donald Smith, sister-in-law Edweena Vass Smith, brother-in-law Marvin Clovis Whisenant, and her beloved canine Tootsie.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Elmer Howard Whisenant; her son Elmer Howard Whisenant, Jr.; daughter Darla Katherine Whisenant; sister Nancy Ryan and brother-in-las Buddy; brother Clyde Smith and sister-in-law Becky Skinner Smith; granddaughters Janey Whisenant, Kara Whisenant Ingram, Heidi Whisenant Ingram, and Kelli Whisenant; grandson Brad Whisenant; great-grandchildren Jewelie, Mia, Caleb, Jayde, Adalynn, Dominic Bjorn, Magnus Donovan, Michael, Vincent, Sullivan Kyli and Elijah; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Also her dog Mindy who offered loving companionship during her sickness.

Visitation will be 1:00-2:00pm Wednesday August 15, 2018 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City, Texas. Services will follow visitation at 2:00pm. Interment will follow at Historical Cemetery in Matagorda, Texas.

Audrey “Tiny” Marie White

La Ward--Audrey “Tiny” Marie White, of La Ward, Texas, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 31, 2016 at the age of 71. She was born in Palacios, Texas on October 10, 1945, to the late James Highberg and Christine Cross Highberg.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend who will be missed dearly.

In addition to her parents, Audrey is preceded in death by her sisters, Patsy Porter and Nora Jean Cady; brother, Charles F. Highberg.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 3, 2017, from 5-7 p.m. in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel. Richard Thomas White
June 26, 1952 - July 6, 2018

Richard Thomas White, 66, of Blessing, TX passed away July 6, 2018. He was born June 26, 1952 in Orange, TX to Thomas Polk and Myree Elaine Turner White Jr.

Richard moved to Bay City in 1979 with his family to begin work at Celanese where he remained for 25 years before retiring.

Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Myree and Thomas White Jr.; and nephew, Michael Dosson Miller.

He is survived by his brother, Michael White and wife Cheryl of Orange; sons, Brian White and wife Jeannie of Bay City, and David White and wife Candice of Lake Jackson; grandchildren, Preston Pyland of Bay City, Conner Kilgore of Mesa, AZ, Harleigh Souza of Springfield, MO and Kaycee White of Bay City; niece, Heather White of Houston; nephews, Michael White Jr. and wife Jenna of Cherry Point, NC, and Travis Miller and wife Solmaz of Bandera; great-grandchild, Allison Souza; and great-niece, Clara White.

No funeral services will take place per Richard’s request.

A bar-b-que memorial in celebration of his life will be held at 12 p.m. August 5, 2018 at Baycel Clubhouse. Side dish and beverage contributions would be appreciated.

Joan Barclay Whitworth
March 21, 1945 - December 9, 2018

Mrs. Joan Barclay Whitworth, 73, of Matagorda, Texas passed away on Sunday, December 9, 2018.  She was born in Gadsden, Alabama on March 21, 1945 to the late Joseph Barclay and Sarah York Work.  Joan was the wife of the late William “Bill” Whitworth for 31 years, until his death in 2002.

She received her undergraduate degree from Birmingham Southern and graduate degree from the University of Houston in Mathematics.  Joan taught at high schools in Alabama and Texas – completing her public high school tenure of 36 years at Tidehaven High School in El Maton, Texas.  She was also an adjunct math professor at Wharton County Junior College in Wharton and Bay City, Texas.

Joan was an excellent teacher, and was loved and appreciated by all who knew her.  She and Bill loved traveling and were always on the go from Georgia to Hawaii!  Joan was a member of Christ Episcopal Church of Matagorda, Texas. As a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), she traced her family’s genealogy back to the early 1700’s.   Joan was also a member of the Matagorda Garden Club, and was a board member for the Matagorda School System running uncontested for several years.

Survivors include her sister, Jennifer W. Haynes and husband Ron of Augusta, Georgia; nephews, Matthew Haynes and Christopher Haynes, both of Augusta, Georgia; and niece, JoJo Healy and husband Brian of Fairhope, Alabama.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and brother, Joseph S. Work.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, December 20, 2018 at Christ Episcopal Church in Matagorda with the Rev. Hoss Gwin officiating.

May 26, 1936 - March 17, 2019

David Aaron “Paw” Wiggins, 82, passed away on March 17, 2019 in Sweeny, Texas. He was born on May 26, 1936 in Conroe, Texas to Ben and Mary Gandy Wiggins.

He grew up in the Montgomery County area, and was one of ten children. At the young age of 17, he began his career in the oilfield. He worked in the oilfield in a variety of capacities, but he worked as a fishing tool supervisor for the longest duration of time until his “retirement”. He moved his family to the Matagorda County area in the early 60s, where he lived for the remainder of his life. He was a member of Cedar Lane Baptist Church.

David is survived by his wife, Sarah Wiggins; daughter, Bonita Stell and husband David; daughter, Tina Kelly and husband Billy; son, David E. Wiggins and wife Sandra; daughter, Beth Roberson and husband Gary; son, Mark Bittner and wife Tonya; daughter-in-law, D. J. Bittner and husband Jeff; sister, Marilyn Mills  and husband Skipper. He leaves behind thirteen grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and his beloved dog, Bruno. He is preceded in death by his parents, eight siblings, and son, Tim Bittner.

Visitation will be at Taylor Bros Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 20, 2019 from 5 to 7 p.m. Memorial services will be officiated by Pastor Mike Patterson at Cedar Lane Baptist Church on Thursday, March 21, 2019 at 2 p.m. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck, Texas. Pallbearers are Billy Kelly, David W. Stell, David B. Stell, Daniel Stell, Jonathan Roberson, David E. Wiggins, Jr., and Steven Moers. Funeral services for Donald Ray Wilkerson, 85, of Houston, Texas will be held Saturday, October 20, 2018 at 1 p.m. at Mother Zion Baptist Church in Bay City, Texas with the Rev. Murray G. Martin, eulogist.

She passed away on Sunday, November 11, 2018 at Park Manor of Quail Valley in Missouri City, Texas.

She was a lifelong member of Bethlehem Christian Church where she served on the Pastor’s Aide Committee, Homecoming Committee and Usher Board. She was Parliamentarian for Texas Women’s Disciples of Christ and Prayer Leader for The Christian Women Fellowship. She was a Licensed Beautician. Her hobbies were gardening, barbecuing and fishing. She enjoyed spending quality time with her family and friends.

 She was preceded in death by her husband, Barney Williams Jr.; parents, Edward and Estella Gee; son, David Charles Williams; brothers, Edward W. Gee, Samuel H. Gee, Eddie Gee and Ferlando Gee; sisters, Pearl Ree Edison, Versie Gee and Dorothy Walton; great granddaughter, Chloe Williams; grandparents, Karey and Rebecca Gee; and sister-in-law, Patricia Gee.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories, sons, Samuel J. Williams (Maurline) of Brazoria, and Barney D. Williams (Katherine) of Sugarland; daughter, Marilyn L. Breedlove (Stephon) of Houston; sisters, Esther Gee of Missouri City, Judy Gee and Frankie Gee, both of Houston; brothers, Dr. Karey E.L. Gee of Jacksonville, Florida, Franklin D.R. Faye Earline Williams

November 25, 1924 - February 23, 2019

Faye Earline Williams passed away on February 23, 2019.  Earline was born to Thomas Earl and Laura Faye Angell in Cameron, Texas on November 25, 1924.

She grew up in Cameron and graduated the top of her class at Yoe High in Cameron. After graduation, Earline traveled from Central Texas to the Texas Gulf Coast to work for Dow Chemical Company in Freeport, Texas.

In 1948, Earline married the love of her life, Billie Williams who had also migrated to the Gulf Coast from Caldwell, Texas. Earline and Billie Mack were married for 63 years. In 1951, the newly-married couple transferred with Marathon Oil Company to the Markham Gas Plant in Markham, Texas.

In Markham, Billie Mack and Earline spent the majority of their adult years working and raising a family. Earline worked for the radio station in Bay City and for many years at Taylor Steves Furniture in Bay City. Earline and Billie Mack were lifelong members of the Markham Baptist church where Earline taught Sunday School and handled treasury functions for many years. 

After retirement from Taylor Steves Furniture, Earline and Billie Mack moved to El Campo, Texas in 1998 becoming members of The First Baptist Church El Campo. Family and friends were the focus of her life.  In Markham, she revolved around sons Tommy and Greg’s activities, especially at Tidehaven High School.

Later Earline focused on her grandchildren, Brandon and Alex Williams, attending activities, teaching them a variety of skills and visiting them whenever possible including multiple visits to Bogota, Colombia and Chicago, Illinois. Earline also had the opportunity to get to know and spend time with her great grandchildren, Ava and Duke Williams. Earline was always known for her big heart and routinely having friends and family around her dinner table.

Earline is preceded in death by her husband, Billie Mack Williams in 2012; her son, Thomas Lee Williams in 1994; her parents; brother, Charlie Frank Angell and brother, Billy Wayne Angell.

She is survived by her son, Greg and daughter-in-law, Lucy of Houston; grandchildren, Brandon Williams of Houston and Alex Williams of Houston; great grandchildren, Ava Williams and Duke Williams of Houston; and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Earline’s life will be conducted on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at eleven o’clock in the morning in the chapel of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 3471 Westheimer Road, Houston, Texas 77027.  Reception to follow in the Hines Baker room.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Wayne Angell, A.J. Hebert, Lonnie Williams, Larry Butcher, Kevin Williams, James Phillip, Kent Kornegay, Joe Evans, and Dean Krokum.

Burial will be held at noon on Monday, March 4, 2019 at Macedonia-Hix Baptist Church Cemetery, 10822 FM2000, Caldwell, Texas 77836.

The family would like to extend thanks to all friends and family for their prayers and loving support. They also wish to extend their gratitude to their Mom’s amazing caregiver family at Holly Hall Retirement community.  They also wish to thank the many Doctors, Nurses, and Caregivers at Memorial Hermann Hospital during their Mom’s illness. A special thanks to Tomika Thomas and Betty Loftis for their tireless support over the past eight years.

David Lynn Wise

David Lynn Wise, 69, of Van Vleck passed away September 4, 2018. He was born June 3, 1949 in Hidalgo County, Texas to Cecil and Nellie McDaniels Wise.

David is preceded in death by his parents; son Shane Wise; sister Dolores Tichey and brothers Kenneth, Wayne and Gene Wise. He is survived by his wife Faye Mangum Wise; daughter Misty Wicker and husband Ron of Bay City; son Kevin Wise of Van Vleck; sisters Debra Villarreal of Washington, DC, Donna Rochester of Alice, TX, and Joyce Wright of Pasadena, TX; brothers Virgil Wise and wife Sharon of Corpus Christi, and Glen Wise and wife Cindy of Conroe; grandchildren Brittanee Perez and Dalton Wicker.

Gladys Mae Withrow, 93, of Bay City passed away January 18, 2019. She was born April 10, 1925 in Sublime, Texas to the late Fritz Cordes and Frances Kartman Cordes.

She worked for many years at J.C. Penney and retired from Bealls. She was a member of the VFW Post 2438 Ladies Auxiliary and enjoyed her VFW family.

Her husband Dale Withrow preceded her in death after 65 years of marriage.

Survivors include daughters Betty Burns & husband Jim and Frances Elder & husband Steve; brothers Oliver Cordes and Bill Cordes; grandchildren Bryan Long, Charles Clark, Steve Cashion & wife Kim, Tina Keen & husband Troy, Stephanie Long, Deenae Eastwood & husband Ron, Alisha Burns and Alise Burns; great grandchildren Cullen Cashion, Leighton Keen, Meagan Griffith & husband Michael, Truett Eastwood, Tate Bluda and Wade Bluda; great-great grandchild Walker Keen Griffith and many nieces and nephews.

Halina Wright, 68, of Bay City, passed away February 25, 2019. She was born June 10, 1950 in Upper Darby Township, Pennsylvania to Frank and Stefania Zalewski Rudzinski.

Halina is preceded in death by her parents, and sister Irene Rudzinski. She is survived by her husband Jerry Wright; daughter Melissa Laza (Johnny Martinez) of Sweeny; sons Jerry Wright, Jr (Lysa) of Spring Branch, TX, Brian Wright (Shelly) of League City, TX, and Chris Wright of Minden, LA; brother Richard Rudzinski (Margaret ) of Philadelphia, PA, and grandchildren Benjamin, Samuel, Aubrey, Jarret, Ava and Sabrina Wright, and Julissa Martinez.

The family will receive friends and relatives 5:00-7:00pm Wednesday, February 27 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. Services are 10:00am Thursday, February 28, 2019 at Christ Episcopal Church in Matagorda, with Rev. Hoss Gwin officiating. Interment will follow at Matagorda Cemetery. Pallbearers are Brian Wright, Chris Wright, Jerry Wright, Jr. Benjamin Wright, Jarret Wright and Larry Wright.
