Bertha Etta Wakefield

Bertha Etta Wakefield, 81, of Glasgow, KY., died September 25, 2000 at the Village Manner Christian Healthcare Center in Boling Green, Ky. She was born November 3, 1918 in Metcalf Co., KY to the late James Fisher and Bertha Cockrum Pitcock. Mrs. Wakefield was a member of the Church of Christ and a former longtime resident of Palacios.

Survivors include sisters, Dorothy Davis and her husband Paul of Glasgow, Ky. and Myrtle Ennis of Edmonton, Ky; brother-in-law, Bob Wakefield and his wife Dorothy of Bay City; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Milan Wakefield, October 16, 1995; two sisters, Mary Fang and Elva Buettner and by four brothers, Orrin, George, James and Thompson Pitcock.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, September 30, 2000 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City with the Bro. Shane Jackson. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Van Vleck, Texas. Pallbearers will be her nephews Mike, Mark, Scott and Glen Wakefield.

Ellouise Bledsoe Watkins

Funeral services for Ellouise Bledsoe Watkins, 75, of Van Vleck will be held at 11 am Friday at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home Chapel with The Rev. Don Lewis officiating.  Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park, Van Vleck.

Mrs. Watkins was born July 1, 1910, in Texas, and died at 5:20 pm Feb. 12, 1986, at Gulf Coast Medical Center, Wharton.

A former long-time resident of Bay City, she was a member of the Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Loren Henderson of Van Vleck; a son-in-law, Gordon Hulgan of DeSoto, Texas, a brother, Richard Bledsoe of Rialto, Calif.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers include Lanny Henderson, Frank Henderson, Lloyd Henderson, Von Hulgan, Richard Bledsoe and Vincent Bledsoe.

Arrangements are with Taylor Brothers Funeral Home, Bay City.

Fred Hammon Wehmeyer

November 11, 1884 – April 21, 1960

 

Graveside services were to be held at 2:00 PM Monday in Cedarvale Cemetery for Fred Hammon Wehmeyer, 75, of Matagorda. The Rev. Leslie LeGrand was to officiate.

 

Wehmeyer, who was a retired fisherman, died at Matagorda General Hospital Thursday. Survivors include: one son, A. L. Wehmeyer of Pasadena; one sister, Mrs. Fred Peters of Brenham; two half brothers, Will Wehmeyer of Houston and Adoph Wehmeyer of Brenham; two brothers, Ed Wehmeyer and Paul Wehmeyer, both of Brenham, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services For Paul Williams Are Held Here

Funeral services for Paul Williams, 47, were held at the Walker-Matchett Funeral Home and burial was in the Cedarvale Cemetery. The Rev. Paul Davis officiated.

Mr. Williams died at the Marine Hospital in Galveston on July 28. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Grace Williams; a son, Joe Williams; two sisters, Mrs. Artie Hamlin of Los Angeles and Mrs. A. J. Mannix of San Benito; three brothers, J. J. Williams of Fairbanks, Ollie Addickson and A. J. Addickson of Matthis.

Ila Jewel Brown Willis

Funeral services for Ila Jewel Brown Willis, 85, of Bay City are 2 p. m. today at the First United Methodist Church in Bay City with Rev. Hollie Briscoe officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City.

Mrs. Willis was born Oct. 22, 1908 in Payne Springs, the eldest of eight children born to Gideon Brown and Lena Pelham Brown and died July 13, 1994 at Desert Valley Care Center in Casa Grande, Ariz.

Ms. Brown was a member of the first graduating class of Goosecreek High School in Baytown. She also managed the law offices of Texas Senator Tom Pollard of Tyler.

Ila was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Bay City, serving as the chair of the board from 1975 to 1976, and as a charter member of the Altar Guild. She was a dedicated volunteer with the Matagorda General Hospital Women’s Auxiliary for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband Claude C. Willis Sr., who died July 12, 1965.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy Harp and Bob Conger of Lubbock; her son and daughter-in-law, C. C. and Carmella Willis of Casa Grande, Ariz.; her son and daughter-in-law, Robert Willis and Gabriela Villegas of Houston; her sisters, Florence nun and Dorothy Ginn of Tyler; her brother, Doyle Brown of Mabank. Ila leaves three married grandsons who have given her five great-grandchildren; six granddaughters; and many nieces and nephews.

Her grandsons are named as honorary pallbearers.

Robert Fitzgerald Willis

Robert Fitzgerald Willis, 54, beloved husband, father, brother and friend passed away on Sept. 9, 2003.

Robert was a constant, charismatic man who will live on in the hearts and minds of numerous friends and family members through the extraordinary memories that he left. Robert was born Oct. 1, 1948, in Bay City, Texas, to Claude and Ila Willis. Those who mourn his passing include his beloved wife, Gabriela Villegas; three children, Marina Jewel, Claudia Chowning, and Patrick Manuel; his sister, Dorothy Harp of Conroe; his brother, C.C. and wife, Camella of Casa Grande, Ariz.; nephews, Allen and wife, Jan, Mike and wife, Beth, and Mark and wife, Terri; and nieces, Heather and husband, Shephen Church, Shelly and husband, Todd Lennon, Katy and husband, Joe Drucker and Wendy Willis. He will also be missed deeply by the Villegas family of Mexico City. Robert was a graduate of Bay City High School and Texas Tech, where he was a member of Delta Tau Delta. He served in the Peace Corps. in Columbia and was active in the organization for many years. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 12, in the chapel at A.D. Bruce Religion Center, University of Houston, Entrance 13A off Cullen Blvd. (closest parking lots are 9C and 15F), 713-743-5051.
