Chonita Flores

Funeral services for Chonita Flores, 70, were held Dec. 24 at 3 p. m. at the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tony Flores officiating. Interment followed at Palacios cemetery.

Mrs. Flores was born Sept. 15, 1915 in Mission, Texas and died Dec. 22, 1985 at Wagner General Hospital. She was the daughter of Amado and Marina Pena Salinas. She was affiliated with the Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include daughters, Julia Baggett and Eva LaBorde of Palacios and Belinda Licons of Houston; son, Adam Flores of San Marcos; sister, Marina Ramirez of Mission, Ca.; brother, Pete Salinas; 12 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Autopsy Shows Death Of Felix Flores Shows No Sign Of Foul Play

Funeral services for Felix Flores were held Wednesday, July 7, at 10 a. m. at the Second Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Leslie E. Webb, Jr. officiating. Interment was in the Palacios Cemetery.

Flores, 56 years old, and a life long resident of Palacios, was found dead in his home at 812 Morton, where he lived alone, about 9:45 Monday morning by Cosme Llanes and fearing foul play, called the law officers.

The body was taken to Houston where Dr. Joseph A. Jachimezyk performed an autopsy and rendered a verdict of death by natural causes and placed the time of death as July 4.

Mr. Flores is survived by one sister Beatrice Flores.

Autopsy Reveals Palacios Man Heart Fatality

An autopsy, ordered  by Justice of the Peace W. R. Hasley, showed Monday that Felix Flores, 58, of Palacios died of a heart attack. Judge Hasley ordered the autopsy after Flores’ body was found at his home at 812 Morton Street.

After the body was found at 10:45 a. m. Sheriff Jack Cole and deputies R. S. Graham, Maurice Ashcraft and Amos Garcia were called to investigate, it was reported.

The dead man had bruises and cuts about the face, but the autopsy, performed by Joseph A. Jachimczyk of Houston, found that they were caused when the man fell on the porch.

The body is at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home in Palacios.

Gilbert Flores, Sr.

Funeral services for Gilbert Flores, Sr., 82, of Palacios, were held March 12, 1994 at the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel. Interment was in Palacios Cemetery.

Mr. Flores was born Dec. 4, 1911 in Palacios to Olivo and Mary Soto Flores. He died March 11, 1994 at a Victoria hospital.

A widower and a lifelong resident of Palacios, he was a retired commercial fisherman.

Mr. Flores is survived by two daughters, Dorothy Anderson of Rockdale, TX. and Joyce Flores of San Francisco, Calif.; a son, Gilbert Flores, Jr. of Palacios; two sisters, Olivia Ripke and Eva LaBorde, both of Palacios; 10 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Celco Gonzales Sr., Celco Gonzales Jr., Johnny Flores, Phil Lela, Sidney Broussant and Rudy Purificalo. Honorary pallbearer was Ed Barrett.

Isabel G. Flores

Funeral services for Isabel G. Flores, 85, were held June 8 at 3 p. m. at the Palacios Funeral Home with Rev. Doug Blanton officiating. Interment followed at Palacios Cemetery. A prayer service was held at the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel on June 7 at 7:30 p. m. with Tony Flores officiating.

Mrs. Flores was born Jan. 10, 1899 in Cadereyta, Nuevo Leon, Mex. and died June 6, 1984 at Wagner General Hospital. She was the daughter of Ferasen and Trinidad Cantu Garcia. She had been a resident of Palacios for 64 years and was a member of the Presbyterian Church.

Her husband, Charles Flores Sr., preceded her in death in 1968.

Survivors include four daughters, Rachel Rodriguez of Palacios, Rosie Leal of Houston, Esther Villasemo of Houston and Emma Cavazos of Weslaco; four sons, Roland Flores, Charlie Flores II and Robert Flores, all of Palacios, and Roy Flores of Houston; one sister Salome Miranda of Palacios; 27 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were grandson, Richard Leal, Fidel Leal Jr., Roy Flores Jr., Vincent Villasenor, David Flores and Ramio Cavazos.

Jesse Solis Flores

Funeral services for Jesse Solis Flores, 61, a lifetime resident of Palacios, were held Feb. 17 at 2 p. m. at the Second Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jose Cruz Antonio officiating. Interment followed at Palacios Cemetery.

Flores was born Dec. 25, 1925 in Palacios and died Feb. 14, 1987 in Galveston. He was a member of FOE #3821 in Palacios.

Survivors include his wife, Angela Flores of Palacios; parents, Jimmy and Otila Flores, Sr. of Palacios; daughters, Lucinda Flores and Diana F. Rangel of Dallas and Maryann Flores of Palacios; sons, Jesse Flores, Jr. of Freeport, and Stephen Flores of Palacios; brother, Jimmy Flores, Jr. of Palacios; 14 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Pallbearers were Cecilio Castillo, Johnny Perez, Porsirio Rodriquez, Jimmy Flores III, Johnny Flores, and Daniel Herrera.

Jimmie Flores, Sr.

Funeral services for Jimmie Flores, Sr., 94, of Palacios, were held September 16, 1994 at the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel. Interment was in Palacios Cemetery.

Mr. Flores was born August 7, 1900 in Bay City to Carlos and Isabell Garcia Flores. He died Sept. 14, 1994.

He was a member of the 2nd Presbyterian Church and had resided in Palacios all his life.

Mr. Flores is survived by one son, Jimmie Flores, Jr. of Palacios, by eight grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, and fourteen great great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Johnny Flores, Jimmie Flores III, Steve Flores, Jessie Flores, Jr., Marcelo Garcia, Jr., and Ray Silvas, Elizar Guerra, Jr. will serve as an Honorary Pallbearer.

Juan R. Flores

Funeral services for Juan R. Flores, of 704 Johnson St., were held Monday, August 14, at 8:45 a. m. at Rendon Funeral Home Chapel followed by Requiem Mass at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church at 9 with Rev. Michael Harrold officiating.

A resident of Palacios for 27 years, he was born on June 24, 1894 in Mexico and died Friday morning in Wagner General Hospital following a lengthy illness.

Surviving are a son, Eulalio Flores of Palacios; a daughter, Mrs. Frank Martinez of Corpus Christi; two brothers, Antonio of Port Lavaca and Ignacio Flores of Robstown; 19 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Macedonio S. Flores

Macedonio Santos Flores, a resident of Palacios for 50 years, died Sunday morning, July 19, in the Champ Traylor Hospital in Port Lavaca after a lingering illness.

Born August 30, 1889, in Corpus Christi, he was a veteran of World War I. For many years, he and his wife Sophia, who preceded him in death on August 17, 1968, operated a tavern and fish market in the 800 block of Main.

Rosary was recited at the Palacios Funeral Home Monday at 7:30 p. m. Funeral mass was held at 10 a. m. Tuesday at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Armand Florizoone officiating. Interment was in the Palacios Cemetery.

Survivors include two step-daughters, Mrs. Dora Cole of Corpus Christi and Mrs. Antonio F. Flores of Palacios; one stepson, George Frangullie of Palacios; two sisters, Mrs. Sofia Pena and Mrs. Dominga Ochoa; two brothers, Henry Flores and Robert Guerra, all of Port Lavaca; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Funeral Services For Infant Held Thursday - Manuel Flores

Funeral services were held at 3 p. m. Thursday for Manuel Flores, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Julia Alamia of Palacios.

Services were conducted at the Mexican Presbyterian Church with Rev. Benardo Toso of Palacios officiating.

Burial was in the Palacios cemetery.

Mrs. Mary Flores

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Flores, 59, were held from St. Anthony’s Catholic Church here Wednesday morning with Father Vaclav J Bily officiating. Names of survivors were not available at press time.

Otilia S. Flores

Funeral services for Otilia S. Flores, 89, of Palacios are scheduled for 11 a. m. Friday at the Palacios Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Tony Flores officiating. Burial will be in Palacios Cemetery.

Mrs. Flores was born June 1, 1904 in Matamoros, Mexico and died Sept. 8, 1993 in Leisure Lodge Nursing Home in Palacios.

She was a resident of Palacios for 75 years and a member of Second Presbyterian Church in Palacios.

Survivors include: her husband, Jimmie Flores Sr. of Palacios; a son, Jimmie Flores Jr. of Palacios; a sister, Tomasa Martinez of Seguin; a brother, Joe Solis of Palacios; eight grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Jesse Flores in February 1987.

Arrangements are with Taylor Brothers Funeral Home in Palacios.

Phillip Soto Flores

Phillip Soto Flores, a life long resident of Palacios, died of an apparent heart attack Wednesday, January 21.

Rosary was recited at the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel Thursday, January 22 at 7 p. m.

Funeral services were held at 10 a. m. Friday at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with Rev. Brain Crookes officiating. Interment was in the Palacios Cemetery.

Son of the late Olivo and Maria Soto Flores, he was born in Palacios on November 4, 1913. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U. S. Army.

He is survived by two daughters, Connie Cantu of San Antonio and Carolyn Flores of Palacios; five sisters, Mrs. W. D. Miller of Abilene, Mrs. Olivia Ripke, Mrs. Eva LaBorde and Mrs. Julia Baggett all of Palacios and Mrs. Jimmie Lincona of Houston; one brother Gilbert Flores of Palacios; one half brother, Adam Flores of Palacios and three grandchildren.

Dick Flores, 18, Killed In Car Wreck On Highway Near Midway Saturday

Dick Flores Jr., 18 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Dick Flores of Palacios, was the victim of an automobile accident Saturday afternoon about 15 miles west of town on highway 35.

Dick was driving a 1948 Dodge pick-up truck, and was accompanied by Joe Gonzales, Jr., and Miss Sedonia Ardain, both of Palacios, who were unhurt in the accident.

State patrolmen said the truck rolled for 87 feet on the shoulder of the highway, got back on the pavement and when the youth applied the brakes, he must have lost control of the truck.

The truck was coming toward Palacios when the accident happened. He was brought here as soon as possible but was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Bayview Hospital.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at St. Anthony’s church with Father V. J. Bily in charge of the rites. Burial was in the Palacios cemetery with services conducted by the Modern Woodmen of the World of which he was a member.

The tragic accident was a shock to all our citizens especially his school mates and other associates with whom he was very popular, and the bereaved parents have the heartfelt sympathy of all.

Richard S. “Dick” Flores Dies Of Heart Attack

Richard S. “Dick” Flores suffered a heart attack at his home Saturday and was rushed to the Bay View General Hospital where he passed away shortly afterwards.

Funeral services were held at the Palacios Funeral Home at 9 a. m. Monday, September 15, followed by a requiem mass at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with Father Anthony Costantino officiating. Rosary was recited at the funeral home at 8 p. m. Sunday. Burial was in the Palacios cemetery.

A resident of Palacios since 1946, he was born on August 5, 1887 in Corpus Christi, where he lived and ran a restaurant until moving here. Since living in Palacios he has owned and operated the City Fish Market.

He was married to Miss Antonia Frangullie in February, 1929, and to this union two sons were born, Dick Jr., who was killed in a car accident in 1948, and David of Palacios.

He was a member of the Catholic Church and an active worker in the local Lulac Council.

Survivors besides his wife and son are three brothers, M. Flores of Palacios, Henry Flores and Robert Guerra of Port Lavaca; and two sisters, Sophie Pina and Dominga Ochoa of Port Lavaca.

Roland A. Flores

Palacios—Roland A. Flores, 77, of Palacios, died Thursday, Feb. 11, 1999.

He was born July 4, 1921, in Palacios, to the late Charlie and Isabella Garcia Flores. He was a retired crane operator for Alcoa and a member of Second Presbyterian Church of Palacios. He served in the U. S. Army Air Force during World War II and was a life member of VFW Port No. 2467 in Palacios.

Survivors: wife, Antonia Guerra Flores; daughters, Patricia Flores and Mary Flores, both of San Antonio; sons, Roland Flores Jr. of Houston and David Flores of Corpus Christi; sisters, Emma Cavazos of Weslaco and Esther Villasenor of Houston; brothers, Robert Flores of Palacios and Roy Flores of Houston; two grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: sisters, Rosie Leal and Rachel Rodriguez; brother, Charlie Flores Jr.

A prayer service will be held at 7 p. m. today at Palacios Funeral Home chapel.

Services will be 2 p. m. Sunday at the funeral home chapel, the Rev. Andy Blair officiating.

Burial will be at Palacios Cemetery.

Mrs. Sophie C. Flores

Mrs. Sophie C. Flores of 807 Main Street, died Saturday, August 17, in the Gulf Coast Medical Center in Wharton after a lingering illness.

A Texas native and a resident of the Palacios area for 70 years, she was born March 8, 1895.

Rosary was recited at the Palacios Funeral Home Monday, August 19, at 7 p. m. Requiem mass was held Tuesday, August 20, at 10:30 a. m. in St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Michael Harrold officiating. Interment was in the Palacios Cemetery.

She is survived by her husband, Macedonio Flores of Palacios; two daughters, Mrs. Dora Cole of Corpus Christi and Mrs. Antonio F. Flores of Palacios; one son, George Frangullie of Palacios; two sisters, Mrs. J. J. Peres of Palacios and Mrs. P. C. Acuna of Corpus Christi; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Valisa Dione Flores

Funeral arrangements for Valisa Dione Flores, 14, are scheduled for 10 a. m. Wednesday at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Palacios with the Rev. James Nischan officiating. Burial will be in Palacios Cemetery.

A Rosary will be at 7 p. m. today at the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel.

Miss Flores was born Feb. 27, 1979 in Pasadena to Pete Flores and Alfa Alamia and died Aug. 23, 1993 at Matagorda General Hospital.

She was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, a student at Palacios, a member of the volleyball team, band, drill team, and National Honor Society.

Survivors include: her mother, Alfa Alamia of Palacios; her father, Pete Flores of Houston; maternal grandparents, Octavio and Lorenza Alamia of Palacios and three brothers, Adrian Flores of Palacios, Omar Flores of Houston and Jaime Flores of Palacios

Pallbearers will be Adrian Flores, Omar Flores, Pete Flores, Brent Kuneske, Kevin Harvey and David Harvey.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Devine Flores in 1988.

Arrangements are with Taylor Brothers Funeral Home in Palacios.

Funeral Services For Roland C. Florip To Be Held Thursday

Funeral services for Roland Charles Florip will be held at 3 p. m. Thursday, October 14, at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Rayford Harris officiating. Interment will be in the Palacios Cemetery.

Born April 26, 1893, in Roger City, Michigan, a son of Fred and Christine Smith Florip, he had been a resident of Palacios for 41 years. He was a retired painter and paper hanger. He died at 12:32 Tuesday morning in the VA Hospital in Houston, where he had been a patient since Saturday.

He is survived by his wife, Georgia Mertz Florip of Palacios; two daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Spruiel of Houston and Mrs. Mary Froelich of Roger City, Michigan; three sisters, Mrs. Gust Kleber and Mrs. Edward Hopp of Roger City and Mrs. Josphe Reinke of Alpena, Mich. and one brother, Otto Florip of Roger City.

Narvel Tanne Flye

Funeral services for Narvel Tanner Flye, 60, of Bay City, are scheduled for 11 a. m. Thursday at Enterprise Baptist Church in Bay City with the Rev. A. H. Pointer officiating. Burial will follow in Palacios Cemetery in Palacios.

Visitation will be until 9 p. m. Wednesday at the Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home chapel.

Mrs. Tanner was born June 24, 1933, to Albert and Louise Bryant Tanner of Bay City and died May 22, 1994, in Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City.

She was a member of the Baptist Church and a member of the A. G. Hilliard High School class of 1950.

Survivors include her husband of 20 years, A. C. Flye Sr., of Bay City; two step-sons, Robert Lee and Nona Dale Flye of Dallas and A. C. Flye Jr. of Dallas; five step-grandchildren, A. C. Flye III of Bay City, Myrtle Flye and Lewis Plummer, Felicia Flye, Darryl Flye and Rosalyn Flye, all of Dallas; four step-great-grandchildren, Aysia and Andrew Flye IV of Bay City and Lauren and Lewis Plummer III, of Dallas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert Tanner and Louise Tanner Gordon.

Pallbearers are Robert Lee Flye, A. C. Flye III, Horace Davis, A. C. Flye Jr., Darryl Flye, Steve Flye and Archie McDaniel.

Honorary pallbearers are Greg Hart, Bill Britton, Johnnie Sidney, Lewis Plummer Jr.,, Willie B. Hart, George Fountain, A. C. Flye IV and Barney Allen.

Arrangements are with Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home of Bay City.

Final Rites Held For E. B. Foisy, 73, Here Wednesday Afternoon

Funeral services for E. B. Foisy were held at 2 p. m. Wednesday February 20, at the Palacios Funeral Home with Rev. L. W. Crouch of El Campo officiating. Interment was in the Palacios Cemetery.

A resident of Palacios since 1936, he was born in South Dakota on July 13, 1889, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. A. Foisy. He died early Monday morning, February 18, in Wagner General Hospital where he was rushed Saturday afternoon.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. E. B. Foisy of San Antonio; and two sons E. B. Foisy, Jr. of Houston and William Foisy of San Antonio.

Sudden Death of E. B. Foisy, Jr. Shocks City, Final Rites Wed. P. M.

Funeral services for Edward Ben Foisy, Jr. were held at the Palacios Funeral Home Wednesday afternoon at 3 o’clock with the Rev. John Berkley officiating. Interment was in the Palacios Cemetery.

The town was stunned to learn of the death of E. B., who passed away at Wagner General Hospital Sunday evening after a short illness.

Son of Lola Appling Foisy and the late E. B. Foisy, Sr., he was born September 23, 1920 in Karnes City, Texas. While serving in World War II, he was captured by the Germans and held as a prisoner for many months.

A resident of Palacios for three years, he was owner and operator of the Humble Service Station.

He is survived by his wife , Mildred of Palacios; mother, Mrs. Lola Foisy of San Antonio; one daughter, Brenda Sue Foisy of Irving; four sons, Edward Paul and Billy Gene Foisy of Palacios; Douglas Ray and Richard Bruce Foisy of Irving and one brother, William A. Foisy of San Antonio.
