Nick C. Garcia, Sr.

Services for Nick C. Garcia, Sr., 69, of Palacios, were held Wednesday at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with Rev. Brian Crookes officiating. Interment was in Palacios Cemetery.

Garcia, a 45-year resident of Palacios and a retired barber, died Sept. 1 in Wagner General Hospital. He was a native of Goliad.

He is survived by his wife, Anita Alvarez Garcia of Palacios; three daughters, Vivian Carrillo of Blessing, Mary Ann Garcia and Rebecca Torres both of Palacios; eight sons, Alfred Garcia, Albert Garcia, Tony Garcia, Nick Garcia, Jr., Bobby Garcia and Lawrence Garcia, all of Palacios, Johnny Garcia of California and Lee Garcia of Freeport; a sister, Amelia Solis of Palacios; a brother, Florence Garcia of Bay City; and 28 grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Alfred Garcia Jr., Johnny Garcia, Jr., Jasper Garcia, Joe Sainz, Vidal Garza and Elory Garcia.

Pablo Garcia, 72, Is Buried Here March 12

Funeral services for Pablo Garcia, 72, who died Saturday, March 9, in a Galveston hospital following a long illness, were held Tuesday, March 12 at 9 a. m. in St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.

Born January 15, 1891 in Goliad, Mr. Garcia had been a resident of Palacios for 20 years. He was a member of St. Anthony’s Church.

Survivors include his wife Mrs. Guadalupe Garcia; six sons, Eusebio, Romolo, Tomas, Arthur and Pablo, all of Palacios and Jesus of Houston; four daughters, Misses Genoveva and Virginia Garcia of Corpus Christi, Mrs. Estefina Flores of Bay City and Mrs. Theodora Caldron of Goliad; one brother, Jesus Garcia of Houston; one sister, Miss Fedela Garcia of Palacios and 11 grandchildren.

Funeral Services For Mrs. Pilar S. Garcia Are Held Here Jan. 2

Funeral services for Mrs. Pilar S. Garcia, 914 Moore, were held Saturday, January 2 at 3 p. m. at the Second Presbyterian Church with Rev. D. G. Vera officiating. Burial was in the Palacios Cemetery.

A resident of Palacios since 1936, she was born February 7, 1886 in Mexico and passed away at the Bayview General Hospital, January 1.

She is survived by four daughters, Vidala G. Soto of Houston; Lidia G. Quintanilla, Rosaura G. Flores and Teresa G. Gonzales of Palacios; two sons, Alfred S. Garcia and Reyes S. Garcia of Houston and two sisters, Inez Sanchez and Juana Sanchez of Mexico.

Ramon Mendez Garcia

Ramon Mendez Garcia, a commercial fisherman, died Friday, February 3, in Wagner General Hospital.

Rosary was recited at 7 p. m. Sunday at the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral mass was held at 10 a. m. Monday at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with Father Brian Crookes officiating. Interment was in the Palacios Cemetery.

A resident of Palacios for 46 years, he was born in Mexico on August 31, 1902, son of Faustino and Maria Mendez Garcia.

He is survived by five daughters, Mary Sanchez and Pauline Gomez of Palacios, Angela Ferrell of Houston, Lucy Garza of Freeport and Janie Ochoa of Texas City; six sons, Eulalio, Blas, Lucia and Joe Garcia of Palacios, Raymond Garcia of Bay City and Jesse Garcia of Louisiana; three sisters, Anita Garza of Palacios, Carmen Galeano of Louisiana and Maria De Jesus of Brownsville, 35 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Ramona G. Garcia

Funeral services for Ramona Guerra Garcia, 77, will be held today (Wednesday) at 10 a. m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with Father Brian Crookes officiating. Interment will follow at Palacios Cemetery. A rosary was recited Tuesday at 8 p. m. at the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel.

Mrs. Garcia was born April 5, 1905 and died August 22 in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico.

Survivors include four daughters, Janie Orozco of Palacios, Lucy Escobar of El Campo, Phyllis Rodriguez of Lake Charles, Louisiana and Amelia Garcia of Palacios; three sons, Edward Garcia, Chencho Garcia and Alex Garcia, all of Palacios; one sister, Elisha Estrada of Laredo; two brothers, Juan Guerra of Chicago, IL and Desideri Guerra of Mexico City, Mexico; 46 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Mrs. Rose V. Garcia

Funeral services for Mrs. Rose V. Garcia, 28, of Houston, were held Aug. 31 at 10 a. m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with Rev. Larry Matula officiating. Interment followed at Palacios Cemetery . A rosary was recited Aug. 30 at the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel.

Mrs. Garcia was born March 7, 1960 in Palacios to Olegario B. and Margaret Hernandez Vargas, Sr. She died Aug. 29, 1988 at M. D. Anderson Hospital in Houston. She was born and raised in Palacios and had lived in Houston for the past six months.

Survivors include her husband, Oscar Garcia of Houston; one son, Michael A. Garcia of Houston; parents, Olegario B. and Margaret Vargas, Sr. of Palacios; five sisters, Bertha Fontaine of Encinitas, Ca., Irene Coy of Austin, Delia Vargas of Sugarland, Esther Lopez of San Antonio, and Margaret Vargas of Palacios; and three brothers, Olegario Vargas, Jr. of Palacios, Steve Vargas of Palacios, and Mark Vargas of Fort Campbell, Ky.

Santos Garcia, Sr.

A rosary service for Santos Garcia, Sr., 81, of Palacios, was scheduled for 7 p. m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, 1995 at Green’s Funeral Home in Bay City. Burial will take place at 10 a. m. Wednesday Feb. 8 at Palacios Cemetery.

Mr. Garcia was born November 1, 1913. He died Feb. 4, 1995.

He is survived by five sons, Domingo Garcia, Magdaleno Garcia, Santos Garcia Jr. and daughter-in-law Heike Garcia, Lupe Garcia and daughter-in-law Jennifer Perham, and Joe Garcia and daughter-in-law Martha Alderete; a daughter, Janie Garcia; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Petra Gonzalez Garcia.

Final Rites Held For Santos C. Garcia, 61

Santos C. Garcia, 61, a resident of Palacios for thirty years, died at his home at 510 8th Street Sunday, February 28 after a lingering illness.

He is survived by his wife, Ramona Garcia, four daughters, Mrs. Joe Perez, Palacios; Mrs. Humberto Gonzales, Bay City; Mrs. Rod Rodriguez, Beaumont and Mrs. Albert Garcia, Palacios; three sons, Edward, Chencho and Alexander Garcia, all of Palacios; sister Cleofas Garcia and a brother, Edwardo Garcia, both in Mexico.

Rosary was recited Monday at 8 p. m. at the Palacios Funeral Home. Mass was said in St. Anthony’s Catholic Church at 10 a. m. Tuesday, March 2, with Rev. Michael Harrold officiating. Interment was in the Palacios Cemetery.

Willie R. Garcia

Funeral services for Willie R. Garcia, 67, were held Oct. 1 at 10 a. m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with Rev. Larry Matula officiating. Interment followed at Palacios Cemetery.

A rosary was recited Sept. 30 at the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel at 7:30 p. m.

Garcia was born Nov. 17, 1917 in Harlingen and died Sept. 29, 1985 at Wagner General Hospital. He was a World War II veteran and had been a resident of Palacios for 47 years.

Survivors include his wife, Annie Sardelich Garcia of Palacios; one son, Charles Ray Garcia of Palacios and one brother, Martin Garcia of Palacios.

Mrs. M. L. Garnett – Mattie Lorene Garnett

Burial services were held in the Palacios Cemetery for Mrs. Mattie Lorena Garnett, aged 80, who died at her home in Pasadena, Monday morning. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Katie Jordan and Mrs. R. E. Yeamans of Palacios, and three sons, Jesse Garnett, Pasadena, of Chicago, Ill., 13 grandchildren, 15 great grand children, two great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at the Assembly of God Church in Pasadena, Rev. John Cox officiating.

Mrs. Garnett was a former resident of the Midfields community and had a host of friends in that section of the county.

Mildred Garrison

Funeral services for Mildred Garrison 95, of Palacios, will be held at 1 p. m. Sunday, May 25, 2008 at Church of God of Prophecy in Palacios with Pastor Roosevelt Ellis eulogist.

Interment will be at Palacios Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 3-8 p. m. Saturday, May 24 at Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home in Bay City.

Mrs. Garrison is survived by her husband of 54-years, Alec Garrison, of Palacios.

Andres M. Garza

Andres M. Garza was pronounced dead on arrival at Wagner Hospital Friday afternoon, Dec. 5, after a short illness.

Rosary was recited Sunday at 8 p. m. at Rendon Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral mass was held at 10 a. m. Monday, December 8, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with Rev. Brian Crookes officiating. Interment was in the Palacios Cemetery.

Mr. Garza was born in Goliad on November 10, 1907, son of Mr. and Mrs. Cesario Garza. A retired farmer, he had been a resident of Palacios for 29 years.

Survivors include his wife, Maris of Palacios; three sons, Andres, Jr., of Port Lavaca, Cesario of Freeport and Albert of Palacios; eight daughters, Mrs. Pete Samora and Mrs. Pete Estrello, both of Palacios, Mrs. Romelo Garcia, Mrs. Lucio Sanchez, Misses Rebecca Garza, Rosalie Garza and Teresa Garza, all of Houston, Mrs. Bartelo Rodriguez of Ganado; one brother, Pedro Garza of Tracy, Calif., and 28 grandchildren.

Mrs. Bartola Garza

Funeral services for Mrs. Bartola Garza were held Thursday, July 10 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. Interment was at Palacios Cemetery.

Mrs. Garza died July at Wagner General Hospital.

A rosary was recited at 7:30 p. m. Wednesday at Colonial Funeral Home in Port Lavaca.

Mrs. Garza was born in Mexico August 18, 1901, and lived most of her life in Palacios. She was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.

Mrs. Garza was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Garza.

Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Ramona Leda of Raymondville, Mrs. Rosie Garza of Wharton, Mrs. Janie Jaime of Chula Vista, Calif., Mrs. Eva Rodriguez and Mrs. Eufemis Ottino, both of Palacios; two sons, Thomas Alvarado and Frank “Pancho” Alvarado of Victoria; 48 grandchildren and 65 great grandchildren.

Cesario Garza

Rosary for Cesario Garza, who died about 2:15 p. m. Tuesday, August 3, in Wagner General Hospital, was recited at 8:30 p. m. Wednesday, August 4, in Rendon Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral services were held at 10 a. m. Thursday at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with Father Brian Crookes officiating. Interment was in the Palacios Cemetery.

Son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ventura Garza, he was born in Mexico on August 25, 1883. A retired rancher, he had been a resident of Palacios for 30 years, moving here from Goliad.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Rosario Garza of Palacios; one son, Pedro Garza of Tracy, Calif.; one brother, Pablo Garza of Beeville; one sister, Mrs. Amelia Balboa, of Port Lavaca; 16 grandchildren and 49 great grandchildren.

One Killed, One Hurt in Area Auto Wreck – Humberto Garza

Humberto Garza was killed and the passenger in his car, Freddie Diaz, injured in a one car accident that occurred a mile west of Palacios on State Highway 35 early Sunday morning.

Garza was pronounced dead at the scene. Diaz was taken to Wagner General Hospital where he is hospitalized.

The auto in which the two young men were traveling at a high rate of speed, went off the road and struck a palm tree.

This is the second accident to occur at this locale this year in which a person was killed. Jamie Flores lost his life in a similar accident here on January 2.

A prayer service for Garza was held at 7:30 p. m. Tuesday, April 19, in the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 1 p. m. Wednesday in the chapel with Rev. Ray Garcia officiating. Interment will be in the Palacios Cemetery.

Son of Alfredo and Gregoria Montoya Garza, he was born July 16, 1957 in Brownsville, Texas. A resident of Palacios for two years, he was employed Brown & Root.

Jacinto Garza, Sr.

Funeral services for Jacinto Garza, Sr. were held at 10 a. m. Thursday, November 6, at the Second Presbyterian Church with the Rev. J. Elroy Weikel officiating. Interment was in the Palacios Cemetery.

Son of the late Melciades and Feliciana Garza, he was born October 11, 1890 in Caderate, Mexico. A retired contractor, he passed away Tuesday, November 4, in Wagner General Hospital.

He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. George Llanes of Palacios, Mrs. Jesse Parez of El Campo and Mrs. Manuel Guajardo, Jr. of Texas City; two sons, Reinaldo Garza of Palacios and Jacinto Garza, Jr. of Freeport; 18 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

James M. Garza

Palacios—James Medina Garza Sr., 37, of Palacios, died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 1997.

He was born June 10, 1960, in Bay City to Sylvia Garza of Bay City and the late Leonides Garza Sr. He was an employee for Quality Seafood of Palacios and a Baptist.

Survivors: wife, Linda Boultinghouse Garza; daughter, Ashley Garza of Palacios; son, James Garza Jr. of Palacios; mother; sisters, Esmeralda Barron of Victoria, Brenda Luna of Bay City, and Olga Bryant and Herlinda Garza, both of Lorain, Okla.; brothers, Raul M. Garza and Leonides Garza Jr., both of Bay City, Ramiro Garza of Tyler, Rudy Garza of Markham and Ray Garza of Tennessee.

Preceded in death by: brother: Raul Garza.

Services will be at 10 a. m. today at Palacios Funeral Home chapel.

Burial will be in Palacios Cemetery. Palacios Funeral Home, Palacios, 972-2012.

Pallbearers: Thomas Puentes, Juan Guevara, Anthony Garcia, Ramiro Garza Jr., Leon Garza and Freddy Perales.

Mrs. Josefa Garza

Funeral services for Mrs. Josefa Garza, 66, were held at 10 a. m. Wednesday, October 2, at the Second Presbyterian Church with Rev. Fernando Guttierrez of Corpus Christi and Rev. Rugero officiating.

Mrs. Garza was born November 26, 1901, in Runge and died Monday, Sept. 30, in Wagner General Hospital following a short illness.

She is survived by her husband, Jacinto Garza of Palacios; two sons, Reynaldo of Palacios and Jacinto, Jr. of Freeport; three daughters, Mrs. George Llanes of Texas City, Mrs. Jesse Perez of El Campo; 18 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Maria N. Garza

Funeral services for Mrs. Maria N. Garza were held Friday, August 17 at 10 a. m. in St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Robert J. Hickl officiating.

Burial was in the Palacios Cemetery.

A rosary was recited at 8 p. m. Thursday at the Port Lavaca Funeral Home Chapel.

Daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Catarino Nevarez, she was born January 23, 1911 in Mexico. She had been a resident of Palacios for 35 years and was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. She died at 5 a. m. Wednesday August 15, in Wagner General Hospital after an extended illness.

Survivors include three sons, Cesario Garza of Freeport, Albert Garza of Bay City and Andres Garza of Port Lavaca; seven daughters, Mrs. Pete Estrella, Mrs. Pete Samora of Palacios, Mrs. Lucio Sanchez, Mrs. Romlo Garcia, Rosalle Garza, Rebecca Garza and Teresa Garza, all of Houston; one brother, Elias Navarez of Robstown; two sisters, Mrs. Luz Benavides of Houston and Mrs. Katie Quintanilla of Palacios and 29 grandchildren.

Carmen Gatica

Funeral services for Carmen Gatica, 61, were held Tuesday at 10 a. m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with Rev. Lawrence Matula officiating. Interment followed at Palacios Cemetery.

A rosary service was conducted July 11 at 7 p. m. from the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel.

Gatica was born May 2, 1922 in Victoria and died July 9, 1983. She was the daughter of Pablo and Gabriela Hernandez Chavez. She was a lifelong resident of Palacios and a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.

Survivors include her husband, Monico Gatica of Palacios; five daughters, Mary Yanes of Rockdale, Dora Lopez of Baytown, and Rosie Herrera, Virginia Gillette and Janie Arroyo, all of Palacios; four sons, Robert Gatica of League City, and Mike Gatica, Tony Gatica and Marcus Gatica, all of Palacios; sister Victoria Chavez of Palacios; three brothers, Mike Chavez of Baytown, and Valentine Chavez and Gabriel Chavez, both of Palacios; 26 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Herman Gatica, Paul Chavez, Domingo Lopez, Jr., Comilino Yanes, Robert Gatica Jr. and Michael Gatica.
