G. F. Wilbur

Born in Michigan, March 5, 1838, died in Palacios, Nov. 8, 1923, at the advanced age of 85 years, 9 months and 3 days, the last of a family of 12 children.

Mr. Wilbur was married to Miss Elizabeth Rowe 55 years ago last April, in Waterloo, Ia. One son, blessed this home, George Wilbur, who now lives in the state of Nevada. The family resided in Iowa until 10 years ago when they came to Palacios for the benefit of Mr. Wilbur's health. While here, though of a very modest and retiring disposition, he has made many friends and his well kept lawn, lovely fruit trees and splendid garden, bespoke his quiet industry and pride in his home.

Above all, said his bereaves wife, "He was a good man." Though not a member of any church, he confidingly spoke of his christian experience and attended the services of the Baptist church with his good wife.

The Men's Bible Class of the above church will miss him for he was seldom absent.

"The common round, the daily task,
Will furnish all we ought to ask,
Room to deny ourselves, a road
To lead us daily nearer God."

Carter Williamson

The ashes of Carter Williamson were brought here Sunday and under the direction of the Palacios Funeral Home interred in the family plot at the Palacios cemetery, following a short service conducted by Rev. J. G. M. Ramsey, pastor of the Presbyterian Church.

His wife, Mrs. Carrie Williamson, of Santa Cruz, Calif., brought the ashes to Houston, where she was met by the sister, Mrs. Belle Williamson, who with Misses Christine and Elsie Waters accompanied her to Palacios. Here they were joined by a few close friends of the family for the service.

Mr. Williamson passed away in a hospital in California just ten days after the death of his brother, Byron, at El Paso. The eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. George Williamson and for a time a member of a grocery firm in the early days of Palacios, is well remembered by a number of our older citizens. He had been in the west for the past twenty years or more and had made California his home much of that time. Besides his wife he is survived by his mother, three sisters, Misses Maude and Belle Williamson, and Mrs. Florence Best, and with their many friends we join in extending deepest sympathy.
