Angela Estlinbaum, 48 of Wadsworth, died at Methodist Hospital in Houston, June 16, 1980. She was a lifetime resident of Matagorda County, a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Wadsworth and a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Altar Society.  Survivors include: uncle, Clyde Estlinbaum of Bay City; aunts, Mrs. Gladys Hansen of Saint Anna, Calif., and Mrs. Cleo E. Edwards of Wharton and a number of other relatives.  The funeral will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Bay City Wednesday, June 18 at 10 am with Father Charles Sonnier officiating.  Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Park, Van Vleck.  Rosary will be recited by Father Charles Sonnier at Bay City Funeral Home Chapel at 7 pm June 17.  Pallbearers include: C. V. McKelvy, Charles Ottis, George Bunk, Eddie Douglas, Fred Stanley and Jon Abshire.  Services under the direction of Dick R. Elkins, Bay City Funeral Home

Funeral services for Manuel Figueroa Jr., 52, of Bay City will be held 2 pm Saturday at Holy Cross Catholic Church with Msgr. James Brunner officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Van Vleck.

A rosary will be held 8 pm today at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home Chapel.

Mr. Figueroa was born Sept. 22, 1936, to Manuel and Consuelo Solis Figueroa Sr. and died Dec. 28, 1988, at his residence.

A resident of Bay City for 26 years, he was a member of VFW Post 2438 and the Catholic church.

Survivors include his mother, Consuelo Figueroa of St. Louis, Mich.; wife Sandra Figueroa of League City; a daughter, Diana Pena of Bay City; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Ovidio and Flora Figueroa of Bay City and Filberto and Penny Figueroa of St. Louis, Mich.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Bessie and E. N. Villarreal of Alice and Alieia and Adolph Torres of Alma, Mich.; two granddaughters and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers include Smiley Saenz, Faustino Rivera, Aldolpho Torres, A. B. Trevino, Ronnie Garza, Lester Miller, Johnny Nash and Mike Rutledge.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of VFW Post 2438.

Funeral services under the direction of Taylor Brothers Funeral Home.

Annie Beth Rice Fondon

Annie Beth Rice Fondon, 72, of Bay City, departed this life Friday, March 9, 2001 at the Bay Villa Health Care Center in Bay city to join her beloved husband "Bud." She was born on November 6, 1928 in Sweetwater, Nolen Co., Texas to Irene Valentine Laxon and Thomas Allen Rice Sr. She was the youngest of their eight children.

Beth married Green Berry "Bud" Fondon on June 13, 1946 in Houston, Texas and they made Matagorda County their home. For many years they owned and operated a very successful rice farm and ranch at Citrus Grove near Collegeport, where they were well known and highly respected. After their retirement they moved to Van Vleck. Mrs. Fondon was a devoted and loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister and Christian.

Survivors include: son and daughter-in-law, Roland Allen and Jeanne Marilla Fondon of Bay City; grandson, Rudy Allen and his wife Maria Barela Fondon of Rosenberg, Texas; granddaughter, Julie Fondon and fiancee Jerry Guajardo of Bay City; great-grandson, Zachery Allen Reyes of Bay City; brother, Ora E. Rice and his wife Lily of Boise, Idaho; niece Georgia Irene Rice Herreth and husband A. C. of Bay City; great-niece, Diane Herreth of Bay City; great nephews, Albert "Abby" Herreth, Brett Herreth and Albert William Rice Herreth all of Bay City; and numerous other nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends and loved ones. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, "Bud" Fondon on January 23, 1005, brothers, Ira Elton "Jack" Rice, Thomas Allen Rice, Jr., Maj. Roy E. Rice, Raymond E. Rice, and George E. Rice and one sister, Virginia Oleta Rice Vaughn.

A Graveside Funeral Service was held on Monday, March 12, 2001, at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Van Vleck, where she was laid to rest beside her loving husband "Bud." Brother Roland "Buck" Yarborough officiated. Pallbearers were Wayne McDonald, Henry Yarborough, Lee Dale Rutherford, Albert "Abby" Herreth, A. C. Herreth and Earl Yarborough.

Funeral services for Veronica Elizabeth Franz, 82, of Bay City will be held 2 pm Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Bay City with the Rev. W. E. Dugger, Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park, Van Vleck.

Mrs. Franz was born Aug. 30, 1906, in New Orleans, La., to William Lewis and Elizabeth Schmidt White and died Jan. 25, 1989, at Spring Branch Memorial Hospital, Houston.  A resident of Bay City for 60 years, she was a member of the Methodist Church.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Walter Burnett of Wimberley, Texas; a son and daughter-in-law, A. M. and Helen Franz Jr. of Houston; a sister and brother-in-law, Lucille and Matt Ottis of Wadsworth; three grandsons, Mark Franz of Washington, D. C., Bill Burnett of San Marcos and Wade Burnett of Austin and a granddaughter, Susan Burnett Waelbroeck of Paris, France.

Pallbearers include Mark Franz, Bill Burnett, Wade Burnett, Charles L. Williams, Robert White, Clinton White and Jimmy Williams. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Doolie Franz.  In lieu of the usual contributions, memorials can be made to the Fellowship Class at First United Methodist Church. Arrangements under the direction of Taylor Brothers Funeral Home.

BAY CITY - Alexis Alexandra Garcia, infant daughter of Lonnie Paul Garcia and Marisol C. Ortega of Bay City, died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2002. Alexis Alexandra was born Oct. 9, 2002, in Galveston.

Survivors: parents; and grandparents, Martha Ortiz, and Nan and Fedencio Garcia.

Cecilia Frances Gelber

Graveside services for Cecilia Frances Gelber, 87 of Wharton will be held 1 pm Wednesday at Roselawn Memorial Park, Van Vleck.

Mrs. Gelber was born Dec. 30, 1903, to Joseph and Frances Kocian Krenek in Ammansville, Fayette County, and died June 1, 1991 at the El Campo Nursing Home.

She was a longtime resident of Markham and a 15-year resident of Wharton.  She married Julius Gelber on June 20, 1920, in Schulenburg.  She was also a member of the Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1974; her son, George Gelber, in 1972; and one granddaughter.

Survivors include her son, Henry Gelber of Wharton; a sister, Julia Bollmeyer of La Grange a brother, Steve Krenek of La Grange; three grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Memorials may be sent to the charity of the donor’s choice. Arrangements under the direction of Taylor Brothers Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Fredrick James Gernand, 71, of Ashwood, TX were held 10 am Monday at in Holy Cross Catholic Church in Bay City with the Rev. Charles Sonnier officiating. Interment will be at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck.   The rosary was scheduled for 8 pm Sunday at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home Chapel.

Mr. Gernand was born in March 1912 in Galveston and died Nov. 4, 1983, at Gulf Coast Medical Center in Wharton, TX. He belonged to the Holy Cross Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanette K. Gernand of Ashwood; a daughter, Lucille A. Williams of Ashwood; two sons, Fred Joseph Gernand and Ralph W. Gernand both of Ashwood; five brothers, William P. Gernand of Freeport; Woodrow J. Gernand of Bay City; Jerome Gernand of Indiana, Walter Gernand of North Dakota and Anthony Gernand of Rosenberg; two sisters, Agnes Hayes of Oklahoma City and Rosaline Griffith of Rosenberg; and two grandchildren.

Arrangements are with Taylor Brothers Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Jeanette C. Gernand, 80, of the Ashwood Community, will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home with the Rev. Casey Jarzombek officiating.

Interment will be a Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Van Vleck.

A Rosary will be at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home with Michael Sicard officiating.

Mrs. Gernand died Jan. 2, 2000 at her residence. She was born Feb. 6, 1917, in Aurora, Ill. to the late Joseph and Anna Diehl Duy.

She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and a resident of the Ashwood Community since 1947.

Survivors include: daughter and son-in-law, Lucille A. and Edward Williams of Ashwood; son and daughter-in-law, Ralph and Ann Gernand of Bancoff, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Earline Gernand of Ashwood; sister, Lucille Von Ohlen of Elburn, Ill.; brothers, Ralph Duy and Walter Dewey both of Aurora, Ill.; grandchildren, Tiffany Nicole Gernand of Ashwood and James Joseph Gernand of Houston.

She was preceded in death by: her husband, Frederick James Gernand; her son, Fredrick Gernand. sister Helen Hausler, and by three brothers; Adam and Joe Duy and Albert Dewey.

Pallbearers will be George Cortinas, Tim Griffith, Sam H. Griffith, Joseph Ros, Jerry Gernand and Jason Bellard.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Douglas Griffith and James Gernand.
