Services will be held for P. J. Reeves, Jr., 58, of Bay City, 3:30 pm Tuesday at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Chapel. 

Officiating at the services will be the Re3v. W. D. Baker. 

Reeves died November 7, 1982 at Gulf Coast Medical Center in Wharton.

Survivors include wife, Edwina Smith Reeves of Bay City; mother, Maggie O’Bannon of Old Ocean; daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Gary W. Hales of Bay City; son, Jerry L. Reeves of Houston; sister, Lurline Pool of West Columbia; brothers, J. T. Reeves of Bay City and M. G. Reeves of Sweeny.

Reeves has been a resident of Bay City since 1952 and a veteran of WWII in the Navy.

Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck.

Pallbearers include Frank, Joyce, Morris and Garland Richardson, James Sewell and Ernest (Bud) Sewell.

In Lieu of the usual donation, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Edwina Reeves
October 12, 1925 - July 8, 2018

Edwina Reeves, 92, of Bay City, Texas passed away July 8, 2018 in Sugarland, Texas.  She was born October 12, 1925, in Alto, Texas to the late F.F. and Evelyn Smith.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bay City and was a Children’s Sunday School teacher for over 30 years.  She retired in 1984 from the First National Bank of Bay City and would later enjoy traveling.  She was a member of the Friends of the Bay City Library, Matagorda County Birding and Nature Center, Matagorda County Museum and the Bay City Book Review Club.  She was also a member of the Pilot Club of Bay City for 25 years.

She is survived by her son, Jerry Reeves and partner Wesley of Houston; her daughter, Donna Faris and husband Gary of Van Vleck; two grandsons, Christopher Hales of Bay City, and Clayton Hales and wife Heather of Bay City; two great grandsons, Troy and Tripp; a brother, Charles Smith and wife Vi of Richwood; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, P.J. Reeves Jr.; her sister, Florine O’Connell; and a brother, Barney Smith.

The family will receive visitors from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City.

The funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, July 12, 2018 at the First Baptist Church of Bay City with the Dr. Michael Zimmerman officiating.

Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck, Texas.

Pallbearers will be Charles Brookhouser, Paul Hannah, Stephen Harrison, Pat Matthes, Roger Ward and Tony Wells.

Funeral services will be held for Mrs. Nora Lee Smith, 90, of Bay City, 10 am Wednesday at Taylor Brothers Chapel. Officiating at the services will be the Rev. W. D. Baker.  Smith died February 8, 1982 at Matagorda General Hospital.

Survivors are daughters Mrs. Bettye Holt of Lake Jackson, Mrs. Lucille Roberts of Brownsville, Mrs. Bobbye Taylor of Bay City; 9 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She belonged to the first Baptist Church.

Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park, Van Vleck following services.

Pallbearers include E. B. Roberts III, William H. Roberts, Ronnie L. Miller, Stephen T. Sliva, James Saldek and Oscar Henslee.  Arrangements with Taylor Brothers Funeral Home.

Funeral Services for Mr. Jack Denton Wiginton, 56, of Bay City will be held 2 pm Tuesday at Taylor Bros. chapel with Rev. W. D. Baker and the Rev. Bobby Good officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park, Van Vleck.

Mr. Wiginton was born Aug. 19, 1927 in El Campo and died April 22, 1984 at Matagorda General Hospital.

Survivors include; wife, Ann Thurber Wiginton of Bay City; parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. F. Wiginton of Bay City; two daughters, Sharon Wiginton of Bay City and Lisa Allen of Sweeny; son-in-law, Bill Allen of Sweeny; son, Preston Wiginton of Sweeny; sister, Gloria Murray of Bay City; brother, William B. Wiginton of Bay City.

Mr. Wiginton was a resident of Bay City since 1939 and a member of First Baptist Church of Bay City, past president of Bay City Lions club, Bay City Knife and Fork club and Bay City Gun club, and a veteran of WWII in the U. S. Navy.

Pallbearers are Harry Norris, Don Jean Taylor, Bert L. Huebner, Vernon Leissner, Curtis Oliver, James Humphries, Hefner Appling and Mike Galyean, Jr. Arrangements are with Taylor Brothers Funeral Home, Bay City.

Sharon Ann Wiginton

Sharon Ann Wiginton, age 36, of Houston was born May 10, 1952 in Bay City, Texas and died February 15, 1989 at her residence in Houston.  She was a member of St. Luke’s Methodist Church in Houston.  She graduated from Bay City High School in 1970, attended South Western University in Georgetown, and graduated from The University of Texas in 1974.  She was employed by Delta Air Lines as a Flight Attendant for several years and later worked as a Legal Secretary.  She is survived by her mother and step-father, Doris Marie and Harry H. Gordon, of Houston; by her grandmother, Bessie Adams, of Temple, TX; by her grandfather, D. F. Wiginton, of Bay City; by two uncles, Lucious Dennis, of Dallas, and Bill Wiginton, of Bay City; by one aunt, Gloria Fay Murray, of Bay City; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral Services will be Saturday, February 18, 1898 at 1 pm at the Taylor Brothers Funeral Home Chapel, Bay City, with the Dr. Lamar Clark officiating.  Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park, Van Vleck. Pallbearers include Kirk Wiginton, Scott Wiginton, Doug Murray, Drew Murray, Cliff McKelvy and Wayne Head.  Contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or to the charity of your choice.  Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City.

Herman Jefferson Yoakum

Funeral services for Herman Jefferson Yoakum, 92, of Bay City, will be held at 11 am Saturday at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home Chapel.  Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck. 

Mr. Yoakum was born Nov. 10, 1892, in Sangamon County, Ill., and died at 5:30 am June 6, 1985 at Matagorda General Hospital.

A resident of Bay City for 20 years, he was the former owner of Bay Equipment Co., an International Harvester dealership.  He was a veteran of WWI, life member of the Masonic Lodge, Order of the Scottish Rite and the Shriners, honorary life member of the Bay City Rotary Club, founder of the Bay City Gun Club, and past president of the American Trap Shooters Association.  He was a former coach for the Bay City Teenage Baseball League and retired at age 80.

Pallbearers include W. G. “Kirley” Grimes, Dr. W. K. Horsley, Jack Hansen, Dan Penick, Max Gist, and Gilbert Sliva.  Honorary pallbearers include Jim Morrow, Hugh Harper, John Woolsey, Jimmy Allen, Joe Entzminger, Richard Joes and member of the Bay City Rotary Club.

In lieu of the usual contributions, donations may be made to the Shriner Hospital for Crippled Children, Ansar Temple, 630 S. South, Springfield, Ill., 62702
