Charles M. Amos Rose Louise Amos ![]() Charles M. Amos, Sr. Charles M. Amos, Sr., age 80, of Bay City passed away in Matargorda General Hospital at 12:10 AM May 17, 1967. Born February 5, 1887 in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Has been a Bay city resident since 1913. Member of First Baptist Church, Woodsmen of World, Practorians was retired accountant. Services will be at 4 PM Thursday May 18, in First Baptist Church. Interment in Roselawn Memorial Park with Rev. William Baker of First Baptist Church officiating. Survived by his wife, Mrs. Rose Louise Amos of Bay City, one daughter Mrs. Frances Louise Cantrell, Bay City, three sons, W. A. Amos, Jr., Humble, Charles M. Amos Jr., Houston and Harold E. Amos, Sr., Baton Rouge, LA; nine grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. Pallbearers W. E. Fraizer, Sims McDonald, D. F. Wiginton, Herbert Cantrell, R. E. Graham, and Dr. D. A. Einkauf. Honorary pallbearers are Sunday School Class members and Dr. Charles A. Shoultz. Services under the direction of Taylor brothers Funeral Home.

C. L. Ash, 69, Burial Friday Clifford Lee Ash of 3021 7th Street passed away in Matagorda General Hospital at 9:15 p. m. last night at age 69. Born in 1896 in Greenfield, Ill., Ash had been a resident of Bay City since 1942. Services will be Friday at 2 p. m. from the Taylor Brothers Funeral Home Chapel with interment in Roselawn Memorial Pall, Rev. Tommy Nesbitt. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Atheleen Ash of Bay City; two stepsons, Kenneth Hodges of Lake Jackson and Bobby Hodges of Jones Creek. Pallbearers will be Alvin Blanchard, Ira Blanchard, J. E. Fanson, Blackie LeCompte, Bobby Hodges, and Kenneth Hodges. Services are under direction of Taylor Brothers Funeral Home.

Everett E. Bond Salome H. Bond ![]() Salome H. Bond Funeral services for Salome H. Bond, 90, of Bay City, will be held 2 pm Tuesday at First United Methodist Church, Bay City, with the Rev. Bill Dugger officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park, Van Vleck.
Mrs. Bond was born July 7, 1898, in Courtney, Texas, to T.M. and Cristina Brag Hickman and died Dec. 23, 1988, at Matagorda House Nursing Home.
A resident of Bay City for 74 years, Mrs. Bond was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was very active member of the Gleaner Sunday School class.
Survivors include two daughters and son-in-law, Cleo Jeanes and Katynel and J. T. “Bubba” Byrd, all of Bay City; a son, E. W. “Woody” Bond of Bay City; a dear friend, Jessie Bell of Bay City; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Russell Matthes, Charles Ziegenhals, Everett Farthing, Tommy Farthing, Frank Craft, and Bobby Craft. Honorary pallbearers are E. M. “Nini” Landrum, Burton Letulle, Bruce Ziegenhals, Louis Ziegenhals and Mark Landrum. Arrangements are with Taylor Brothers Funeral Home.

Billye Jean Bond
Services for Billye Jean Bond of Bay City will be held at 2PM Wednesday in the First United Methodist Church. Bond, 55, was born in Milam County on Jan. 11, 1928. She moved to Bay City in 1945. She died in Matagorda General Hospital on Aug. 21.
She is survived by her husband, Everett “Woody” of the family home; two sons, Everett “Woody” Bond, Jr. and wife, Donna of Houston, and Larry and wife, Ioane of Victoria; and four grandchildren.
Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park with the Rev. LeRoy Stanton officiating. Arrangements are with Taylor Brothers Funeral Home.

Albert Carroll Brown Sr. Services will be held for Albert Carroll Brown Sr., 61, of Brownsville on June 22 at 2:30 p. m. at the First Baptist Church of Bay City. Officiating will be Dr. W. D. Baker of the First Baptist Church. Brown died on June 19 in Brownsville. He is survived by his wife Emogene Brown of Brownsville; his son Albert Carroll Brown Jr. of Houston; his daughters Betty Vacek of Port Isabel, Judy Voelkel of San Leon and Lynnette Johnson of Midfield; his brothers Grady W. Brown of Kerrville and W. H. Brown Jr. of Everman; his sisters Ruby Eggers and Nellie Griffits of Hico; his five grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Brown was a deacon of the First Baptist Church and a member of Bay City’s Masonic Lodge 865 AF & AM. Employed with Nabisco Company for 38 years, he was active in youth work and drove the Jet Set bus. Burial at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck will follow the services. The graveside service will be conducted by the Masonic Lodge 865. Pallbearers will include Harrell Gibbs, Glen Kinsey, Jack Callahan, Jim Powers, James Harris and J. B. Towers. Deacons of First Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers. Mrs. Brown was born May 10, 1921, to Francis Sankey and Gladys Holmes Latham and died July 23, 1991, at Humana Clear Lake Hospital in Webster. She attended Wharton County Junior College to attain her degree as a licensed vocational nurse, and at Delmar College in Corpus Christi, she became a registered nurse. She was a member of the Bay City Order of the Eastern Star, the Art League of Bay City and First Baptist Church. She worked at Matagorda General Hospital and Matagorda House as a registered nurse. Survivors include her son, Carroll Brown Jr. of Friendswood; three daughters, Betty Vacek of Port Isabel, Judy Heller of San Leon and Lynnette Johnson of Markham; one brother, Sankey Latham of Illinois; two sisters, Joyce Crow of Houston and Jane Webb of Corpus Christi; six grandchildren, Kim Wilson, Tommie McClanahan, Joanne Brown, Crystal Brown, Michael Johnson, Timothy Johnson and Bryan Vacek; and three great-grandchildren, Jennie Hatchett, Courtney Wilson and Meagan McClanahan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert C. Brown, who died in 1983. Pallbearers are Harrell Gibbs, Larry Gibbs, Wayne Michael, Bill Ehlert, Gerald Rowland and Paul Hurdt. Honorary pallbearers are Mike Johnson, Timothy Johnson, Michael Johnson, Eddie Vacek, Bryan Vacek, Dalwayne Wilson and the deacons of First Baptist Church. Services are under the direction of Dick R. Elkins of Bay City Funeral Home.

Carl E. Butterworth Alice M. Butterworth ![]() Alice Mary Butterworth Funeral services for Alice Mary Butterworth, 92, of Bay City will be held 2 pm Sunday at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Jim Welch officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck. Mrs. Butterworth was born Dec. 15, 1897, to Charles and Mary Mull Blass in Erie, PA., and died August 8, 1990, at Hamilton Hospital in Lafayette, LA. She graduated from Carnagie Institute of Technology in Pittsburgh, PA in 1925 and did additional study at Melon Institute and the Woods Hole, Mass. She married Carl Butterworth Dec. 7, 1925, in St. Louis, MO., and moved to Texas in 1926. She lived in Gulf, then moved to Bay City area since 1961. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Pink Ladies Auxiliary at Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City. She was also active in the organization of former Old Gulf residents. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Mary and George Engstrom of Ames, Iowa; a son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Celia Butterworth of Lafayette, LA; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two sisters. Arrangements are with Taylor Brothers Funeral Home, Bay City.
