Spencer Green Sr.
June 7, 1932 - March 21, 2015

Spencer Green Sr., was born June 7, 1932 and passed away March 21, 2015.

Spencer was employed with the BCISD for 34 years. After he retired, he went to work for the Wharton ISD for three years, until his health failed him. He devoted his time, first to God, his family, and sitting on his porch. He was greatly respected by everyone who knew him and will be greatly missed by his loving family and many relatives and friends.

Services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 28, 2015, at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, Cedar Lane, Texas.

The family would to thank everyone for their kindness and thoughtfulness during our time of bereavement.

Funeral services for Eddie “Knappy” Grice, 79, of Cedar Lane, will be held at1 p. m. Sunday at St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church, Cedar Lane, the Rev. N. J. Johnson officiating.

Burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery in Cedar Lane.

Visitation will be until 9 p. m. today in the Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home chapel.

Griggs was born April 29, 1908, in Matagorda County, and died August 19, 1987, in his home.

He was a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife, Rosalie Griggs; eight daughters, Lottie Casey of Los Angeles, Calif., Ida Moore and Catherine Griggs, both of Houston; Sharon Scott of Missouri City; Leola Fields, Viola Grice, Ola Times and Carolyn Griggs, all of Cedar Lane, seven sons, Leroy Sidney of Dallas, Albert Griggs and Wilbert Smith, both of Bay City, Eddie Griggs Jr., and Ben Griggs of Lake Jackson, Elroy Griggs of Brazoria and Lewis Griggs of Cedar Lane; 39 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great-grandchildren; a niece, Carrie M. Richardson of Cedar Lane; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Active pallbearers will be Ellis Griggs Jr., Eugene Griggs, Willie Griggs, Preston Griggs, Murray Griggs Sr., Earl Griggs, Robert Griggs and Jimmy Griggs.

Honorary pallbearers will be Benjamin Griggs, Lewis Griggs, Elroy Griggs, Wilbert Smith, Eddie Griggs Jr., Albert Griggs, Leroy Sidney, Remus Richardson and Willie Fields.

Funeral services for Eddie B. Grice, 77, of Bay City will be held 1 p. m. Saturday at St. Mark Missionary Church with the Rev. Murray Griggs officiating. Burial will follow at Shiloh Cemetery in Cedar Lane.

A wake will be held from 8 to 9 p. m. today at Green’s Mortuary in Bay City.

Mr. Grice was born Aug. 20, 1914, to Arron and Leotha Edwards Grice in Cedar Lake and died Dec. 10, 1991, at Bay Villa Nursing Home.

Mr. Grice was a member of Local Union 116 and was affiliated with the Baptist church.

He is survived by four daughters and son-in-law, Hattie Davis of Van Vleck, Lovie and Eddie Baugh Sr. of Sweeny, Mary Moreno of Cedar Lane and Brenda Johnson of Brazoria; a son, Clyde Grice of Cedar Lane; a daughter-in-law, Shirley Grice of West Columbia; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, faithful cousins, Everlena Holmes and Travis Robinson; and a host of relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ella Grice, who died in 89, and two sons, Jimmie Grice, who died in 1990, and Eddie Grice.

Pallbearers will be Elroy Griggs, Eddie Griggs Jr., Conrad Dixon, Kenneth Smith, Thomas Bree and Chester Fields.

Honorary pallbearers are Eddie Baugh Sr., Clarence Holmes, Jimmie Fields, Michael Johnson, Samuel Thomas, Roger Porter and E. R. Thymes.

Funeral services for Ella Grice, 73, of Cedar Lane will be held 2 p. m. Thursday at St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church, Cedar Lane. Burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery, Cedar Lane.

Friends may call this afternoon and tonight at Green’s Mortuary and from 1 to 2 p. m. Thursday at the church. A wake will be held from 7 to 9 p. m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Grice was born Jan. 4, 1916, in Texas to Archie and Maryland Jones Fields Sr. and died Sept. 9, 1989, in Cedar Lane.

She was a member of the Baptist church.

Survivors include her husband, Eddie B. Grice of Cedar Lane; father, Archie Fields Sr. of Bay City; a daughter, Hattie Davis of Van Vleck; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lovie and Eddie Baugh Sr. of Old Ocean and Mary and Oscar Moreno of Freeport; a son, Clyde Grice of Cedar Lane; a son and daughter-in-law, Jimmie and Shirley Grice of West Columbia; three sisters, Fostena Edwards of Galveston, Mary Tolson of Bay City and Marilyn Lacey of Houston; six brothers, Jimmie Fields of Houston, Archie Fields Jr., Herman Fields and Tommie Fields of Galveston, Hallard Fields of Freeport and Isaiah Fields of Bay City; four aunts, Ruthie Taylor of El Campo, Evelyn Thomas and Catherine Lewis of Bay City and Bertha Hawkins of Houston; two uncles, Odie Fields of Brazoria and Lawery Fields of Bay City; 18 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Jimmie Lee Grice

On October 9, 1944, a baby boy was born to Eddie and Ella Grice (deceased), whom they named Jimmie Lee Grice.

At an early age he united with St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church, Bay City, Texas under the leadership of Rev. N. J. Johnson, and remained faithful until death.

He attended school at Herman High in Van Vleck, Texas.

He was joined in Holy Matrimony to Shirley Wiley on August 28, 1982.

He departed this life Tuesday, January 8, 1991 at 3:30 a. m. in Galveston, Texas. He was preceded in death by one brother, Eddie B. Grice.

His memories will always be cherished in the hearts of his family: wife, Shirley Grice, West Columbia; father, Eddie B. Grice, Cedar Lane; four sons, Keith Grice, Kenneth Grice, Eddie B. Grice, all of Van Vleck, Eric Wiley, West Columbia; one daughter, Jimetria Grice, West Columbia; one godson, Desmond George, West Columbia; three sisters, Hattie Davis, Van Vleck, Lovie Baugh, Old Ocean, Mary Moreno, Cedar Lane; one brother, Clyde Grice, Cedar Lane; three aunts, Fosten Edwards, Galveston, Mary Lee Tolson, Bay City, Marilyn Lacey, Houston; six uncles, Jimmie Fields, Houston, Archie Fields, Herman Fields, Tommie Fields, all of Galveston, Hallard Fields, Freeport, Isiah Fields, Bay City; two great uncles, Odie Fields, Brazoria, Lawyer Fields, Bay City; four great aunts, Bertha Hawkins, Houston, Ruthie Taylor, El Campo, Catherine Lewis, Evelyn Thomas, both of Bay City, one grandchild, host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
