Howard A. Parker

Howard Albert Parker
Howard Albert Parker, 85, of Bay City passed
away May 7, 2003 in Broomfield, Colorado. He was born on March 5, 1918
in Rural Hill County, Texas to parents Tom and Emma Parker.
He was raised near Palacios and in 1944 enlisted in the United States
Army.
He served in the European campaign during World War II and was decorated
with the Bronze Star and two purple hearts.
On July 24, 1943, he married Dorothy Owen and they lived in South Texas,
in 1983, they moved to Bay City where he enjoyed gardening on his
property.
He had recently moved to Broomfield to be near his son’s family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, his parents, and by
several siblings, Vardeman, Grace, Dayton, John and Lois.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 13, 2003 at 10:30 a.m. at the
Bay City Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jim Hardaway officiating.
Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck.
Services are under the direction of Bay City Funeral Home.

HUBERT LANG PARMA
Nov. 30, 1934 — Feb. 16, 2006
 Hubert Lang Parma, 71, of Lake Jackson, died February 16, 2006, at the
Angleton Danbury Medical Center.
He was born November 30, 1934, in Bay City, Texas, to the late Eddie Joe
Parma and Huberta Bowie Peterson.
Mr. Parma was a member of the Cedar Lane Baptist Church and a resident
of Lake Jackson since 1956.
In 1986, he retired from Dow Chemical as a foreman, with 30 years of
service.
He served in the U.S. Air Force from February 12, 1952, to February 11,
1956.
On June 12, 1954, he married Thelma Jean Sirmon in Cedar Lane, Texas.
Mr. Parma enjoyed watching his grandson play baseball, as well as
golfing, taking care of his cattle and RVing with Thelma.
Survivors include: his wife of almost 52 years, Thelma “Jeanie” Sirmon
Parma of Lake Jackson; daughter and son-in-law, Patti and Cliff Phillips
of Lake Jackson; grandson, Clay Phillips of Lake Jackson; sister, Ada
Stange of Victoria, Texas; mother-in-law, Thelma Sirmon of Bay City; his
best friend and golfing buddy, Jack Reimer; and his beloved dog,
“Dolly.”
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his
grandparents, Hubert and Ada Bowie, who raised him, and by his
father-in-law, Earl Sirmon.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Lakewood Funeral Home Chapel
in Lake Jackson, Texas, with the Rev. Scott McKay officiating.
Interment will be at 4 p.m. Sunday, at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery
in Van Vleck, Texas, with the Rev. William Hodge officiating.
Pallbearers will be Hollie Urban, Clyde Pray, John Ashcraft, L.Z. Bryan,
Leon Morris and Ron Anderson.
Honorary pallbearers include Clyde Ashcraft, W.F. “Bill” Mays, Jack
Reimer, Leslie Dacke and Henry Gretschel.
Visitation will start at 2 p.m. Saturday at Lakewood Chapel and the
family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Saturday.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the
American Heart Association.

PARROTT, AUSTIN JOHN
Austin John Parrott, 62, of Matagorda passed away Thursday, Feb. 28,
2002, at his residence. He was a veteran of the United States Army and a
long time resident of Matagorda.
He is survived by: his wife, Susan Parrott of Matagorda; sons, Austin
John Parrott, Jr, Randall Joseph Parrott, and Rodney Lewis Parrott;
daughters Elma Powers and JoAnn Montgomery as well as 10 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 2, 2002 at 11 a.m. at the
First United Methodist Church in Matagorda with the Rev. Dottie Dumas
officiating. Interment followed at the Matagorda Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Sylver Hernandez, Felipe Hernandez, Wally Escobar,
Buddy Escobar, and Wes Escobar.
Services are under the direction of Bay City Funeral Home.

Aaron Brown Penland
Sr., 56, a resident of Bay City passed away June 22 as a result of an
airplane crash. He was a member of the Methodist Church, was retired
from the U. S. Army as Lt. Colonel, was a WWII veteran, was a graduate
of Texas A & M, was a retired Farm Bureau Agent of Matagorda County,
president of the Matagorda County Farm Bureau, a member of the Fraternal
Order of Eagles, and a local rice farmer. Survivors include: wife,
Marguerite Penland of Bay City; Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Penland of
Collegeport; daughters, Mrs. Carole Lowstetter of Garland and Mrs. Susan
Genck of Bay City; sons, Aaron B. Penland, Jr. of Huntsville and Robert
Penland of Chicago, Ill.; sisters, Sue Hawthorn of Pane Burn, Ark., and
Nell Mize of Cuero; brothers, John of Palacios, Eugene of Santa Cruz,
Calif., Glenn of Channelview, Ray Lee of Collegeport, and Ralph of
Florida. 6 grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. June 24
at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. James Thompson and Rev.
George C. Aurich officiating. Interment was at the Hawley Cemetery with
pallbearers being: Glenn Penland, Johnny Penland, Gene Penland, James
Penland, Arvin Stewart, and Chester Corporon. Honorary pallbearers were
Ralph Penland and Ray Lee Penland. Family requests memorials be made to
the Heart Fund and the Diabetes Fund. Arrangements with Taylor Brothers

PENLAND, PAUL MITCHELL
PENLAND
PALACIOS—Paul M. Penland, 31,
became the fourth Matagorda County traffic fatality of 1966 Saturday
night and the first in the city of Palacios, when the car he was
driving was involved in a head-on collision with an auto driven by
Jimmy Boeker of Channelview.
Penland, whose address is listed as
104 Main Street, Palacios, died after being taken to Wagner General
Hospital, it was reported to The Tribune. Boeker, 19, was
also carried to the Palacios hospital. Both men were taken by the
Palacios Fire Department.
The accident, which occurred on
Loop 141 near Perryman Street, was investigated by Palacios
Patrolman Donnie Dean with assistance from the Department of Public
Safety’s Cecil Taylor.
Taylor told the Tribune
Sunday that, according to the investigation, it appears that Penland
came up behind a string of slow-moving vehicles, slammed on his
brakes and skidded from his lane into the path of the Boeker car in
the north bound lane. The cars hit head-on, Taylor said.
A spokesman at Wagner General
reported today that Boeker was doing “nicely.”
Total damage to the autos was
$3000, it was estimated.
Services for Penland will be held
Tuesday at 2 p. m. at the First Baptist Church of Palacios with the
Rev. Rayford Harris officiating. Burial will be in
Hawley Cemetery in Blessing.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby
Sanders Penland; mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Penland of
Collegeport; two daughters, Sharon Paulette and Denise Dawn; two
sons, Paul Mitchell Jr. and Ronald Keith; two sisters, Mrs. Lee Mize
of Palacios and Mrs. Lee Hawthorne of Houston; and seven brothers,
Aaron B. of Bay City; Glenn of Channelview, Ray L. of Houston,
Eugene of Santa Cruz, Calif., Ralph of West Palm Beach, Calif.,
James L. of Palacios and John E. of Lake Jackson.

PENLAND
Funeral services
for Ray Lee Penland, 65, of Collegeport were scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday
at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home, Bay City, with the Rev. Jim Hardaway
officiating.
Interment will
follow at Hawley Cemetery, Blessing.
Mr. Penland was
born Jan. 9, 1925, in Keechi, Texas to A. A. and Vannie Huffhines
Penland and died Jan. 25, 1990, at Matagorda General Hospital.
He was a lifelong
resident of the Collegeport and Palacios area.
Survivors include:
four daughters, Linda Dasch of New Orleans, Lenora Brossette of
Richmond, Laura Fralick of Houston and Barbie Heilker of Austin; a son,
Henry Penland of Sugar Land; two sisters, Sue Hawthorne of
 Pangune,
Ark., and Nell Mize of Cuero; five brothers, Johnny Penland of Palacios,
Ralph Penland of Florida, Eugene Penland of California, James Penland of
Austin and Glenn Penland of Cedar Lane; and 12 grandchildren.
Funeral
arrangements are under the direction of Taylor Brothers Funeral Home.

PEREZ, JOSE "JOE"
Jose "Joe" Perez, 77, of Bay City died on March 25, 2001 in
Brownsville, Texas. He was born April 14, 1923 in Houston, Texas to
Mario Carrillo and Georgorio Vasquez.
Mr. Perez was married to Maclovia Gutierrez Perez, who preceded him in
death on May 4, 2000. He was also preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by: one sister, Natalia V. Correa of Brownsville; one
special niece, Carmen Correa of Brownsville and various nieces and
nephews.
Mr. Perez was a veteran of Normandy D-Day World War II and a recipient
of three purple hearts and one medal of honor.
Interment will be 4 p.m. Friday, April 13, 2001 at Cedarvale Cemetery in

VICTOR L. PEREZ
A Knights of Columbus Rosary for Victor L. Perez, 76, of Palacios was
recited May 12, 2006 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. Funeral services
were held May 13, 2006 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with Rev.
Charles Dwomoh officiating. Interment was follow at the Palacios
Cemetery.
Mr. Perez was born March 23, 1930 in Olivia, Tx. to Ascencion and
Anastacia Lopez Perez. He died May 11, 2006 at his residence.
He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict; retired from
Alcoa Aluminum Co. in 1982; was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic
Church; a life long resident of Palacios; a member of Alcoa 25 Year
Club; and Life Member and Chaplain of the Palacios VFW Post 2467.
He is survived by his wife Anita Guzman Perez; daughter and son-in-law
Sylvia and Tom Navarro; son and daughter-in-law Richard G. and Christine
Perez all of Palacios; sisters Cruz Carmelo of South Houston and Dominga
Gonzales of Palacios; brothers Henry L. Perez of Palacios, Paul Perez of
Pt. Lavaca, Mike Perez of Houston and Valentine Perez of Bay City;
grandchildren Irma Gonzales, Iris Gonzales and Richard Joseph Perez;
great grandchildren Amado Ray Mata, Aaron Mata, Angelina Renee Navarro,
Evione Roy, Jauslyn Rubio and Richard Jamal Perez.

Jerry James Peter
(April 22, 1925 - February 6, 2012)

JERRY JAMES PETER, age
86, passed away peacefully after a valiant battle with
congestive heart failure, in Bay City, Texas, on February 6,
2012, while surrounded by his family. Born in Wallis, Texas,
on April 22, 1925, to Louis William Peter and Bessie Rose
Parma. After graduating from Wallis High School in 1942, he
worked at Todd Shipyard in Galveston repairing war damaged
ships until he was old enough to join the service. He then
joined the Merchant Marines and served during World War II
as a Boiler Fireman and Jr. Engineer on Liberty Ships. He
traveled the world until 1947 and then began working as a
carpenter for his father. Jerry met the love of his life and
wife of 63 years, Linda, when she came to Wallis to teach
school. They married and began their life together in
Wallis. After marriage he worked in the oil fields as a
rough-neck and was on a crew that drilled one of the first
offshore oil wells in the Gulf of Mexico. In 1957 Jerry
began work for Phillips Petroleum and he and Linda moved to
Van Vleck, Texas where they raised their three children. The
majority of his career was with Phillips primarily working
in the Alki Unit where he retired after 27 years at the
position of Stillman. On his days off he loved to fish &
flounder in Matagorda Bay and hunt deer in the Fall. Jerry
also ran a herd of cattle and grew pecans at his place in
Cedar Lane, which he continued after retirement. His
interest in genealogy led him to travel to the Czech
Republic several times. He could speak and write Czech and
took great delight in Sunday telephone calls to the friends
he made on his trips. Jerry is survived by his wife, Texana
“Linda” Peter; his daughters, Mary Peter Cudd & husband
Michael of West Columbia and Helen Peter of Houston; his
son, Louis William Peter & wife Debbie; four granddaughters,
Mary Helene Toth, Elizabeth Texana Anderson, Katherine Lee
Peter, Rebecca Lynn Peter; four great-grandaughters and
sister, Florence Svoboda. Friends are cordially invited to
gather with the family and share remembrances of Jerry from
four to six o’clock in the evening, followed by a rosary at
6:30 o’clock in the evening on Tuesday, the 7th day of
February, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home, Bay City, Texas. The
funeral service is to be conducted at two o’clock in the
afternoon on Wednesday the 8th day of February, 2012, at
Holy Cross Catholic Church, Bay City, Texas. Honorary
Pallbearers are Buddy Greer, Leonard Ferguson, Roy Clegg,
Alvin Marek, Mark Clark, Johnny Reuther, Bill Jahnsen, Mike
Cudd, Ross Toth, and Fred Holub. In lieu of customary

of donating to the Texas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center;

OTHEO N. PEVETO - SWEENY
 SWEENY - Otheo Norris "Pete" Peveto, 73 of Sweeny, died Monday, Sept.
25, 2006 at Sweeny Nursing Home.
He was born Dec. 4, 1932, in Choudrant, La., to the late Robert M.
Peveto and Annie Lee Milford Peveto. He was a member of the Baptist
Church and a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean Era.
Survivors: stepdaughters, Gaynell Rodgers of La Porte and Dorothy
Keiborz of Beaumont; stepson: Calvin Jenkins of Bay City; six children;
and brothers, A.D. Peveto of Carthage and Andrew Peveto of Sulphur, La.
Preceded in death by: wife, Maudie Peveto.
Graveside services will be 1:00 p.m. today, Sept. 26, 2006 at Roselawn

POLENSKY, STANLEY
Stanley Polensky, 76, died Wednesday, May 3, 2000 in Houston. He was
born April 1, 1924 in Wharton, Texas to Anton and Mary Luchak Polensky.
A veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater, he
had retired from Matagorda County Pct. 1, where he was the shop foreman
for 26 years. He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church. He will be
remembered as a caring and giving person, and will be missed by all who
knew him.
He is survived by: his wife, Mary Ebrom Polensky of Bay City; daughter
and son-in-law, Gale and Robert E. George of Bay City; sisters, Rose
Williams of Bay City, Francis Jurek of Markham, and Beatrice Bell of
Saginaw; brother, Lawrence Polensky of Wadsworth; two grandchildren,
Louis Fojtik III of Bay City and Brad Fojtik of Austin. Rosary will be
said at 7 p.m. Friday, May 5, 2000 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home and Mass
will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 6, 2000 at Holy Cross Catholic
Church with Father Casey Jarzombek officiating. Interment will follow at
Roselawn Memorial Park.

POLK, ROY ALTON
 Roy Alton Polk, 83, of Bay City died Monday, July 31, 2000 at his
residence. He was born October 6, 1916 in Livingston, Texas to Alton
Preston and Lela Popham Polk.
He was a resident of Bay City since 1957 and a member of the First
Baptist Church. He retired as Branch Manager from G.M.A.C. in Bay City
and was the owner and operator of Polk Travel of Bay City. He was a
World War II veteran, serving in the US Marine Corps. He was a member
and past president of the Bay City Chamber of Commerce and its "Man
of the Year" for 1971. He was also past president of the Bay City
Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellow. Additionally he was a Shriner, a
member of Sons of the American Revolution, and the Sons of the Republic
of Texas.
He is survived by a son and a daughter-in-law, Maj. Gen. Steven R. Polk
and wife Henrietta of Randolph AFB, Texas; by one sister Lela Mae Mays
of Onalaska, Texas; by one brother Alton P. Polk, Jr. of Mesquite,
Texas; by four grandchildren Laura Pustejovsky of El Campo, Beth
Gambrell of Plano, Texas, Henry S. Polk of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Paige
Carmichael of Colorado Springs, Colo; and three great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor Polk in 1995, by a
daughter, Margaret "Peggy" Boepple in 1999, and by a son David
D. Polk in 1977.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday August 2, 2000 at The
First Baptist Church of Bay City with Dr. Mike Zimmerman officiating.
Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck.
Arrangements are by Taylor Bros. Funeral Home.

Auto Accident Victim Is Buried Here Tuesday
Services for Joseph Lee Ponder of Bay City were held Tuesday at
the Assembly of God Church with the Rev. B. A. Reeves
officiating.
Mr. Ponder was killed in an automobile accident Saturday near
Palacios and was 31 years old. He was employed by the Coca-Cola
Bottling Company in Bay City. Burial was in the Cedarvale
Cemetery with Taylor Brothers in charge.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Jessie Mae Ponder, and one
daughter, Deborah Lee, of Bay City.

PRICE, JAMES, JR.
James Price Jr., 64, of San Antonio died February 4 at the Brooks Army
Medical Center, Ft. Sam Houston, Texas. He was a retired U.S. Army
veteran and a member of the Baptist Church. Survivors include: 1 sister,
Mrs. Ada Lou Hill of Bay City; one brother, Samuel Price of Wharton; a
host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday,
February 10, at 1 p.m. at the Mother Zion Baptist Church with Rev. L. R.
James officiating. Interment will be at the Eastview Cemetery.
