Charlotte Moore

Charlotte Moore, colored, wife of Anthony Moore, died Wednesday the 7th, after several months of suffering caused by an abscess. She was a quiet, peaceable woman, and will be greatly missed by her family and relatives.

Rose Nelson

Mrs. Rose Nelson, of Bay City died Jan. 21, 1976 at the Matagorda General Hospital. She was born Nov. 21, 1895 in Texas. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Lydia Moore of Houston, Mrs. Lola Williams and Mrs. Alma Smith of Chicago, Ill; four sons, Marvin Grogan of Boston, Mass., Leland Grogan of Houston, Raymond Grogan of Pleasanton, Calif. and Thomas Jackson of Bay City; 16 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Services will held at the St. John Baptist Church of Van Vleck Sunday, Jan. 25 at 1:30 p.m. The Rev. O. L. Reynolds will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in El Maton. Arrangements are with Duncan Roberts Funeral Home.

Mary Hebert Rebector

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Hebert Rebector, age 97, of Bay City, will be held Saturday, April 26, at 2 p.m., at the Mother Zion Baptist Church in Bay City, with Rev. K. J. Griggs officiating. Burial will follow at Wilson Creek Cemetery in El Maton.

Visitation will be Friday until 9 p.m. in the chapel of Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home.

She was born in Orange, Texas, Monday, March 5, 1900, to John Hebert and Hattie Mouton Hebert, and passed away Sunday, April 20, 1997, at Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City.

She was a former member of Free Zion Baptist Church in Blessing, Texas. Upon moving to Bay City, she united with Mother Zion Baptist Church where she served faithfully.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Estella Stewart and Mrs. Alena Robinson, both of Bay City, and two sons, Harvey Grogan of North Carolina, and Ira Gordon, Jr. of Blessing. Also a host of grand, great-grand and great-great grandchildren, as well as countless nieces, nephews and cousins, other relatives and a family of friends.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, John Grogan, two sisters, Clara Deadrick and Odelia Pea, and six brothers, Leon Hebert, Sam Hebert, Batt Hebert, Charlie Hebert, Johnnie Hebert and Bennie Hebert.

Serving as active pallbearers will be Bennie Hebert, Jr., Lee Edward Hebert, Eugene Temple, Ira Gordon, III, James Robinson, Jr., and Herman January.

Honorary pallbearers will include Harvey Grogan, Ira Gordon, Jr., Tony Hill, Byron Hill, Terry Hill and Quila Bouldin.

Emmitt Rivers

Emmitt Rivers, 81, of Bay City, died Sept. 8, 1976 at the Gulf Coast Medical Center in Wharton. He was born May 9, 1895 in Matagorda County. Survivors include five daughters, Mrs. Vivian Grogans of Oakland, Calif., Mrs. Helen Rivers Hall of Houston, Mrs. Ann Austin of Bay City, Mrs. Celestine Robinson of Galveston and Mrs. Elverine Hebert of Blessing; four sons, Hure and David Rivers of Palacios, Elijah Rivers of Houston and Charlie Rivers of Bay City; two sisters, Mrs. Ollie Gordon of San Antonio and Mrs. Dora Faniel of El Maton; three brothers, Mark Hadden of Dickerson, Harvey Hadden of Houston and Johnnie Hadden of El Maton; 36 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. Services will be held Sunday, Sept. 12, at 2 p.m. at the Free Zion Baptist Church in Blessing. The Rev. Elzie Bonner, Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Wilson Creek Cemetery in El Maton. Pallbearers will be Leon Hebert, Jr., Wayne Rivers, Curtis Hebert, Charles Robinson, Elijah Rivers, Jr., James Robinson, Sam Peters, Jr., and David Robinson. Arrangements are with Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home.

Florence Roberts

Funeral services for Ms. Florence Roberts, 91, of Texas City, formerly of Wilson Creek, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, at Free Zion Baptist Church in Blessing, with Rev. Ben Hadden officiating. Burial will follow at Wilson Creek Cemetery in El Maton.

Visitation will be Friday until 9 p.m. in the Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home chapel, and Saturday from 10 - 11 a.m. at the church.

Roberts was born in El Maton, Texas, Jan. 24, 1906, to Joe Roberts and Mary Dorsey Roberts, and passed away Sunday, Oct. 5, in Galveston.

Survivors include a host of nieces and nephews which include Mrs. Agnes Deadrick White of Texas City, with whom she lived. Also Marvin Gilmore and Mrs. Ella Rine Fredrick, both of Houston, Mrs. Anna Lee Matthis of Los Angeles, and Mrs. Evelyn Fears of Hitchcock. Other survivors include a number of cousins, relatives and many friends.

Pallbearers will be family members and friends.

Tyretha Waddle

EL MATON - Funeral services for Tyretha Waddle, 58, formerly of El Maton, will be held Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2007 at 1 p.m. at the Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home Chapel, Bay City, the Rev. Ben Hadden, eulogist. Burial will follow at Wilson Creek Cemetery in El Maton.

Visitation will be 12-1 p.m. at the funeral home chapel.
She was born in El Maton on May 28, 1948 to Thurman and Evelyn Hadden Waddle and passed away on Thursday, Jan. 4, 2007 at Park Plaza Hospital in Houston.

Survivors include: her mother, Evelyn Waddle, one sister, Dora Rogers, and one brother, David Waddle, all of Houston; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Charlie Ward

Charlie Ward, 78, of El Maton died in Wagner General Hospital Thursday. He had been a resident of El Maton for the past 30 years and had no known living relatives. He was born in Virginia in 1900 and had lived with and was befriended by Mr. and Mrs. Harry Deadrick and family since his arrival in El Maton in 1948. He was a member of the Baptist Church. Funeral services will be today (Sunday) at 1 p.m. in the St. Mary's Baptist Church in El Maton, with the Rev. M. L. Boone officiating. Services are being handled by Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home, with interment in Wilson Creek Cemetery in El Maton.

Tom Ways

WAYS, Tom, 75, died in the Veterans Administration Hospital in Houston Sunday. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Church in El Maton. Ways, a World War I veteran, is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Ellarine Fredrick of Houston and Mrs. Tommy Williams of Pierce; five sisters, Mrs. Jeanette Johnson of LaMarque, Mrs. Minerva Gilmore of Houston, Mrs. Ethel McDaniels of LaMarque, Mrs. Florence Frances and Mrs. Inez Deadrick, both of El Maton; and 11 grandchildren. Interment will be in Wilson Creek Cemetery in El Maton. Duncan Funeral Home is in charge of arrangement.
