Va. Ileda Arlene Williams Blackwell (Granny to most who knew her), 102, went
to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 26, 2016. She was preceded in death by
her husband, Luther Ramon Blackwell; her daughter, Mildred Blackwell; and her
parents, Charles and Olive Williams. She was also preceded in death by her
siblings, Henry Williams, Kate Whitlock, Dave Williams, Abe Williams, Ike
Williams, Alverta Martin, Elzada Boothe, and Eula Martin. Surviving are her
son and daughter-in-law, John L. and Betty R. Blackwell of Check; her
daughter, Linda B. Barlow of Check, and Donald McLane "Mac"
Whitlock of Floyd; grandchildren, Sandra B. Settles and Nate Settles of
Salem, Carol Blackwell of Check, Kathy Barlow and Michael Aftandilian of
Roanoke, and Dianna Blackwell-Hale and Paul Hale of Check. Also surviving are
great-grandchildren, Alexandra C. Turpin and Austin Turpin, Rachel Custer and
Cameron Elkins, Nicholas Conner, Christopher Conner, Jared Custer, Trey Hale,
Emma Hale and Caroline Hale; and great-great-grandchildren, Madison Worrell
and Harper Worrell. She is also survived by a multitude of dearly loved
nieces and nephews. Granny was a member of Red Oak Grove Church of the
Brethren. She was a retired farmer and an avid gardener until just a few
years ago. She loved the Lord and enjoyed reading her Bible, singing hymns
and watching preaching on TV. Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on
Wednesday, March 30, 2016, at Red Oak Grove Church of the Brethren with Bro.
Hebron Quesenberry and Bro. Elbert Lee Naff officiating with interment in the
Red Oak Grove Cemetery. Family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday,
March 29, 2016, at Maberry Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family
requests that memorials be made in Granny's honor to Red Oak Grove Cemetery
or Floyd County Station 3 Fire Department, as Granny was very proud of

Floyd, passed away Tuesday afternoon, July 3, 2001 in a Roanoke hospital. She
was the last surviving child of the late Milton A. and Lillie Dickerson
Williams of Floyd. She was preceded in death by brothers, Walla G., Ora D.
and Guy M. Williams; and a sister, Annie Williams Smith. She was born
September 27, 1907 in Floyd County, graduated from Floyd High School and
Radford College n'ee University. Marie was a long time fourth grade teacher
at Floyd Elementary School where she instilled a love for Floyd County and
Virginia history in her students. Miss Williams was a faithful member of the
Presbyterian Church of Floyd where she served as deacon. She had served as
president of the Floyd Courthouse Women's Club and the Floyd County Education
Association, had been a member of the Garden Club, Delta Kappa Gamma,
Historical Society and the retired teachers’ organization. Her survivors
include nieces, Margaret A. Smith of Floyd, Virginia Williams of Richmond;
and nephew, Floyd P. Smith, Jr. (Pat) of Check. Also, her first cousin,
Geraldine Dickerson Larson of Arlington. Three great-nephews and two
great-nieces also survive her. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the
Presbyterian Church of Floyd with the Rev. Michael Nelms officiating.
Interment in Jacksonville Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8
p.m. Thursday at the Wood Funeral Home. Flowers will be appreciated, or
donations may be made to the Montgomery-Floyd Regional Library, or the Floyd

13, 1991, at the Floyd County Clinic. He was the son of the late Milton and
Lillie Dickerson Williams of Floyd. His wife, Ruby Hylton Williams preceded
him in death. Mr. Williams was a retired mechanical engineer with the Dupont
Company, Martinsville, Va. and a graduate of Tri-State College, Angola, Ind.
He served as a Lieutenant in the U. S. Navy during World War II. He was noted
for his generosity to others and for the love of his family. He is survived
by two sisters, Miss Marie Williams, Mrs. Floyd P. (Annie) Smith, both of
Floyd; a sister-in-law, Mrs. O. D. (Lourie) Williams, Floyd; two nephews, F.
Pat Smith, Check; Glenn Williams, New Carrollton, Md.; three nieces, Margaret
A. Smith, Martinsville; Mrs. Les Carver, Virginia Williams, both of Richmond;
several great-nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be 2:00
p.m. Friday at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Robert S. Link
officiating. Burial will be in Jacksonville Cemetery. The family will receive
friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Thursday at the Maberry Funeral Home. In lieu
